Arpeggiator

I found this oppinion on another forum (Logic Pro files):
"A composer doesn't want to have to go into the Environment and create an arpeggiator and hook it up to the channel and then drag it into the arrange window and then make a region and write the part, which then - kind of- plays from an adjacent channel."
Don`t we all agree ?
But maybe one could make a channelstripsetting, or do something in the environment and save it for later use ? It would not be the sollution, but maybe a bit more practical. If someone know howe to save an arpaggiator, please let me know.I never go into the environment without a step by step explanation because i am afraid i mess up something. The first time i was there (even following Martin Sitters video step by step) I had to reinstall because something went wrong (clicks and ports are the most dangerous place). Maybe someone can recommend a thirdparty arp ?

It's pretty wierd man. I had a hard time figuring out how to rock the arpeggiator by reading the manual. It seemed so vague, but I did manage to find some better info on the net.
I'm not a logic god, but I'm not sure you can just 'have an arpeggiator on standby' if I read you correctly. Honestly, you can really whip up an arpeggiator in no time at all. Here is my streamlined process.
1. Create a new instrument that you would like to arpeggiate. I like to use pad sounds and lead synth sounds on the EXS24.
2. Press Command 8. This brings up the environment window. If it's not already selected, select the 'audio object' from the parameters. I think thats what it's called...anyway, you want the environment screen that has all the channel strips on it.
3. Go to New (top left pulldown menu on environment) and to arpeggiator. This creates a little arp icon below the channel strips.
4. Find (in the environment) your channel strip with your synth on it. You can click the top of it to highlight it so it's easier to remember.
5. Click and hold the right hand side of the arpeggiator (those little knobby things) and drag a line from the arpeggiator to your channel strip. Let go and it will connect the two.
6. Press Command and click on the arpeggiator. This will send the arpeggiator to your track.
The arpeggiator only works in Play Mode or Record Mode. This means you have to press play or record for the arp to kick in.
I suck at explaining this stuff, so sorry if it seems vague. Honestly, its more about getting the proccess nailed down than anything. Those 6 steps take me under a minute, and once you get it going; look out.
It's not so much the arpeggiator itself that I really love. It's more the combination of logic instruments and that particular arp that I really like. Try arping stuff like harps or violins, neat stuff man.
I will confess, I did have a heck of a time getting to where I am with the arpeggiator so I sympathize . Trying a plug in would be cool, although I don't know any?
Take it easy

  • Why isn't the arpeggiator working when I connect it to the sequencer input?

I've been trying for a few days to understand environment and I've been stuck for quite some time. I followed step by step on how to connect the arpeggiator to the sequencer input and it actually working for a little while but stopped. Whenever I connect the two,  the notes aren't arpeggiated at all. I'd really appreciate the help.

im presuming you mean its not sowing in sidebar? have you tried unplugging usb from pc/mac and reinserting?

  • When using logic's arpeggiator, how do I get it to resart its cycle from the root of a new chord instead of resuming its cylce in the same range with the new notes?

I'm arpeggiating A minor over a number of octaves and I want to switch to D minor before the cylce is over. However, I want the d minor to start from the lowest note that I'm playing as if it were a new cycle. What it does instead is continue the cycle, but uses D,F,A instead of A,C,E.
If Logic's arpeggiator is not capable of doing this, can anyone recommend a third party arpeggiator that can? (hopefully cheap/free)
    Thanks.

You need to make sure to give a clean break between the two chords, if any notes are not completely severed between the chord changes the pattern continues from the first chord.  Kind of how in a synth when set to legato it doesn't re-trigger the envelope if the notes run together.

  • How to use an arpeggiator?

    Hello,
I made a new track but I would like to use an arpeggiator on this.
Someone can help me to find it? How does it work?
    Thank you for your answers!

Part 2 is the arpeggiator, but you should watch both.

  • Is the arpeggiator terrible or am I doing something wrong?

Ive watched all the videos and searched all of the web and found zero concrete answers so Im not sure what else to do. I have logic 9 pro, a 27 in 2011 imac, and I can get the arpeggiator working...sort of. As in if I connect all the dots and everything, logic arpeggiates the notes but the delay between pressing the key and logic playing the notes makes it completely useless, not to mention itll out-of-time repeat the note a few times when I first press it. Its so aggravating that I moved to reason. But then you cant record audio...so I thought, whatever, Ill just use rewire to arpeggiate into logic. NOPE. It ruines the Reason arpeggiator just like the logic one. Im at my wits end here. I REALLY want to use an arpeggiator but I cant figure out for the life of me why this refuses to work.
    Please. Help me
    Thanks!

I must admit that I actually never use it (Kirnu), and even no longer have it installed, as I much prefer onboard arpeggiators on synths: Zebra, Albino, FM8, Cronox, Podolski.
The last one's free. It has a very versatile arpeggiator/step sequencer. And a very rich sound.

  • Everytime I hit play on Logic the arpeggiator starts playing

Hi there. I'm having a problems with my arpeggiator on Logic Pro 10.1.0
The main problem is every time I play my track the arpeggiator turns itself on automatically and the arpeggiator is set to arpeggiate the drums so they just go crazy.
I'm trying to bind certain things to my MIDI keyboard, for example I'm binding the play button on the arpeggiator to a button on my keyboard and I'm binding the speed of the arpeggiator to a knob on my keyboard. I could get the knob to work momentarily but not anymore. Whereas the button to activate the play button on the arpeggiator doesn't work unless I have that certain channel selected.
My main problem is of course the fact that it turns itself on automatically when I hit play on the track because the amount of times I have to stop my track then play it again is an annoying amount as my arpeggiator is out to get at me. As for the MIDI keyboard, which is a Samsung Graphite 25 is it a problem with the keyboard or is it Logic?
    Thanks in advance!

How about turning off the Arpeggiator?
Hover pointer over slot, then click on "powerbutton" on the left:
How about removing the Arpeggiator? (clue: this time it is on the right side of the slot)
or the powerbutton on the Arp itself:

  • Best way to add delay line and arpeggiator to multi instrument?

I am using logic sequencer to drive external hardware, and have been making use of the arpeggiator and delay line objects in the environment.
Apparently they have to be set up in loop cabling? Where the delay line runs into the multi instrument, which then in turn runs back into the delay line?
If I set it up just like this, the delayed note is then fed back into the signal and feeds the delay line again so that an infinite delay is created, even if I have repeat only set to 1.
I put the transformer in and if the note is of the original velocity it is sent to the delay line, all other velocities are brought down by -1 and those notes are sent just to drive the external equipment, not back into the delay line itself.
My question is is this the simplest way for this configuration? Or is there a simpler way that I'm overlooking? If there is a simpler way my guess is it probably lies in the parameters of the transformer because I am somewhat unfamiliar with it.
    Thank you for your help.

Hey thanks. I mean, this way actually works, which I am an enthusiastic about, because it took me awhile to figure it out, I am just thinking there might be a simpler way.
Maybe I can try to explain a little bit more detail. I have an external sampler that can receive on 8 individual midi channels. Let's say I have a bass line sample on Midi Channel 1, and a Snare sample on Midi Channel 2, and I want to use the delay line to delay only the snare sample.
I run the delay line into Instrument Track 2 in the environment. At this point, there would be no delay. Not until I run the multi instrument back into the delay line. (I suppose this makes sense, because the multi instrument would need to be in the signal path). Then, however, the note that is delayed is fed back into the delay line as well (the delayed note of the snare), and it in turn feeds the delay line again, and an infinite loop is created.
If I put a transformer in there so that top condition is true the note at the original velocity is fed into the delay line (The original snare hit on beat 2 let's say). Then the delay line subtracts from the velocity by -1 or any number. (In reality this may or may not effect the sound, because the sound in the sampler may or may not respond to velocity. I can always have it play 'full on' whatever the velocity of the midi note.)
Then all notes with subtracted velocities bypass the delay line, which should be the case, because they are never meant to be fed back into the delay line.
That is a lot, I know, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible. I mean, it actually works! I am kind of surprised about that. I don't know if there is an easier way to achieve the same results. I am working with limited hardware equipment, and that seems to be the best way for me to set things up as far as synchronization issues are concerned. Might be an unusual set up, but it seems to give me the best results right now.
Thanks for your help! All input is appreciated!

  • How to use the Arpeggiator with Software Synths

I recently bougth Logic Pro 7.2 and it took me a while to find out how to get the soft synths to work. At the moment I am only using the computer keyboard to play in the notes and it works well so far.
If you want to activate a soft synth, choose an audio instrument and select your synth from the i/o on the left column in the arranger. Then turn on your caps key and start playing and press record and thats it. I now what to use the Arpeggiator with the soft synths. What do I do?

If you type "arpeggiator" (without the quotes) into the search field over on the right, you'll turn up a ton of threads with all the info you could ever need about how to use Logic's arpeggiators.
Inshort hand - create an arpeggiator object in the environment, cable it to the soft synth you want to use, and select the arpeggiator object you created on an arrange track. The notes you play/record will be sent through the arpeggiator to generate the arpeggiated notes, and on to trigger the synth you cabled it to.

  • Is there a Step pattern sequencer in the Logic's Arpeggiator

    Hi,
I use Reason 4, and the RPG-8 is amazing. It's easy and intuitive, and there is even a step pattern editor.
I really miss this function in Logic.
So I'm wondering if I miss something, or if there is no step pattern sequencer in the logic's appreciator ?
I'm going to use this post to extend my question :
In reason 4 there is also an independent Matrix pattern sequencer.
Is there anything like that too in Logic?
    Thank you.

Hum ok, but my initial questions is :
Did I miss something, is there a step pattern sequencer in the Logic's Arpeggiator (like the one in Reason 4).
    Thanks for your answer anyway

  • Reason rpg-8 arpeggiator through Logic

just a tip - for anyone who feels restricted by the somewhat 2 dimensional arpeggiator in logic - consider getting hold of Reason 4 and running it in slave mode thru logic via rewire
the result is extremely versatile arpeg possibilities which brings logic creations to life - What I ever did do without it!!!!

    Reason = no MIDI out.
As a workaround you can record your chord blocks on the Arp track in Reason, then right click the Arp device and select "Arp notes to track" then export that MIDI region and import it into Logic.

  • Logic Arpeggiator woes

I have posted this question before, hopefully someone can give me an answer, or I think it's time to change DAWs.
Logics arp doesn't seem to work in real play time.  When changing from one note to the other on midi controller, the arp pattern is always delayed/late of the change.  Why?  Does anyone have a solution to this? it's driving me nuts!

If by soundsource you mean softsynth? If tried it with every logic bundled synth and and many 3rd party softsynth plugins.  Have also tried it with caps lock function, so I know it's not my midi controller causing the problem, but rather a fault in Logic.
Yes, that's what I meant by Soundsource.. but I was thinking of the "other side" not an input controller type problem.
Next question... have you tried it with an external MIDI device using an external MIDI track. (if you even have one)
If you do, I think you will find the problem does not exist and that the fault lies with the way Logic buffers audio internally. Especially softsynths and the manner in which a softsynth track must be "Live" for input.
This is the way Logic is designed, it's very efficient but there are drawbacks.
What would help is an Arpeggiator upgrade, get it out of the environment and into a MIDI plugin.

  • Jamming with the Arpeggiator not right

So I know how to set up the arp in logic no problem, also delay lines and all that good stuff, the problem is this. On other Arps I can jam by playing arped notes very quickly then holding down the note when I want the arp to work.
In logic this is not working, for example when set to 16th notes if I press a key real quik it plays 2 16th notes, I want to be able to play just one note when the arp is active, then hold down the key for arpeggiated notes. The weird thing is that after it is recorded into logic it plays back right.
I don't have this problem with any other arp I have ever used, why is this happening and how can I fix it? If I program the same thing I play live in the piano roll it works right, but on input from my padkontrol or midi keyboard it does not work right.
    Anyone else having this problem..
A good example is cubase. There is something called the apache arp and it works perfectly I can jam normally one note at a time and then hold the note longer for rolls or crazy 64th notes, in logic it wont work, If I hold a note for no time at all it plays like 2 16th notes or an entire 32nd note roll yet on other arps I can play real short notes to keep the arp from playing multiple notes then hold down for arped notes, hopefully you understand and can help.
    Thanks

I have resprted to using the padkontrols note repeat (Roll) function, I am dealing with the arpeggiators shortcomings but if it were not for the roll function in the padkontrol I would be pretty upset about it.
I think what is happening is that when connected to the instrument track the arpeggiator is actually playing the note off messages, it is the same thing for touch tracks you cant just hit your keyboard using a very short note and just play the first note of the region of the touch tack even in gate mode, it either plays the note off messages or is not receiving my midi note length correctly.
If it were not for these things I would be in heaven with logic, don't get me wrong the arp and touch tracks are still great they just don't function like I think they should. I rally hope it is something I am doing.
Please if anyone has the same issue and knows what to do please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Anyone know of any MIDI arpeggiator generators (apart from Logics)

I'm looking for some sort of MIDI arpeggiator generator for something I'm working on. I know Logic has one and I've used it a fair bit, but I find it very limited.
What I'd like is something simple with a whole bunch of presets/algorithms to choose from etc. Or perhaps some downloadable MIDI sequences or something (I know AU doesn't support transmission of MIDI so that might be an issue).
    Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Cheers Erik, yeah I guess I'm more likely to find synths with this feature but I don't really want any more synths! Have I discovered a gap in the market?! I imagine something like this would be quite cool... just a really simple interface where you define a bunch of parameters to create all manner of interesting arpeggiated sequences. I'd be surprised if it doesn't exist...?

  • Routing midi from an ableton arpeggiator into logic express

anyone know if possible to recieve the midi from ableton 6 running as rewire slave into logic instrument ? ie use the live arpeggiator rather than logic one ?

I don't think you can do that with Rewire but you certainly can do it with IAC driver in the AudioMidiSetup. However, to do that, you can't run Live as a Rewire slave. Therefore, you'll have to start Live before Logic.
To be able to use the IAC driver, go to the Audio Midi Setup and Get Info for the IAC driver. Select the ports tab and add a port. This port should now be available both in the Live output and the Logic input.

  • How to use the arpeggiator

i don't get that, i've never used the environment window and don't really know how it works. but i would like to try the arpeggiator function and i checked the manual and other threads but that didn't help. can someone please explain how to get an instrument track with for example and exs24 instrument being played to arpeggiate? cheers

ok, i tried doing what is described in that thread. but when i click-hold the name of the instrument track in the arrange window and choose arpeggiator the track becomes only arpeggiator, no instrument...
should i do something differently in the environment window? i created both a new arpeggiator and a new instrument (audio instrument 1). and drew a line from the arpeggiator to the instrument.
