Arrange Documents CS4

Hello
One new feature in CS4 is 'arrange documents' and the drop down options.
This works great. However when I close the open files and open some more
CS4 has lost the settings I had. Is there somewhere to make it default to
'my' settings - always do the same as last settings. For example 'float all in windows' would be the default to always open new files instead of tabbed always opening first.

Ok Thank You. I think I found it. If anyone else would like the answer its uncheck 'Open Documents as Tabs' under prefs/interface/Panels & Documents

Photoshop CS4 'Arrange Documents' dialog

Photoshop CS4:
Problem: With several documents open by going to the ‘Arrange Documents’ flyout dialog they could be arranged in the manner required - however the dialog flyout on my setup is blank - I can still arrange the documents by clicking on the appropriate blank area - but I would like to see the appropriate indicators back in the dialog - they used to be there!
Any pointers to a fix for this?
I have tried removing and restoring CS4 - this didn’t fix the problem.

I removed Nik Silver Efex Pro and CS4 is happily back to where it should be - I have no real need for the Nik programme which I was trying out.

CS4 Arrange Documents in Workspace?

Just wondering, as a new CS4 user, if it might be possible to choose "Float All in Windows" from the Arrange Documents dropdown as a part of my workspace?

You set it in Edit > Preferences > Interface by unchecking Open documents as Tabs.

"Arrange Documents" panel plugin bug - Please Adobe give technical details

Hi,
A lot of users are hit by this bug that appears when installing certain
plugins under CS4 (Nik Software plugins for example):
- the menu bar buttons that should be highlighted in color when hovering
them switch to a full grey area.
- the 2 top Panels in the Arrange Documents drop down menu are
invisible.
Adobe say this is a problem with older plugins and a misunderstanding
about how resources are managed in plugins (read : it's a developer
mistake) and plugin vendors don't make any firm statement about this
issue.
The workaround that generally works is to close and reload the plugin
but this works only for the current session.
It would be nice if Adobe could give us users clear and detailed
technical information about this issue. Many of us are developers or
power users and since the communication between the plugin vendors and
Adobe doesn't seem to be that effective, at least we would be able to
transmit the information to the vendor's technical support ourselves.
And as a developer, I'd like to know what mistake so many developers
have made when using the CS4 SDK.
It's very annoying to live with such trivial problems since months
without seeing any fix released.

However, it seems that there's a communication problem about this
particular issue, at least with some major vendors. I received a message
from Nik Software yesterday telling me that they are aware of the
problem and working on a fix. However, this is not a new problem and
since it is apparently a well-known misunderstanding about how some PS
APIs are working and since many plugins from various vendors are
triggering this misbehavior of the PS UI, I guess this must have been
documented somewhere. I can't imagine that this is not the case. If Nik
Software had received the right information from Adobe, the problem
should be gone since a long time.
Well, ok, I'll ask on the SDK forum.

Arrange Documents menu blank

Since several users, including me, have reported that the top part of the Arrange Documents menu is blank in PS CS 4, I thought it would be helpful to those doing a search on the problem.
As seen in the other thread, removing the NIK plugins fixed at least one user's problem. In my case, it was removing the PhotoKit module from the Automate directory. I've been in touch with Pixel Genius Support about the PhotoKit problem, and they are having their engineer look into it.
Bottom line, it seems that if you're having this problem you might want to start by removing plugins to see if that cures it.

Chris - I appreciate the reply. It's frustrating though. CS4 has been out since mid-October - two months - and there is still finger pointing as to whose problem it is with various plug-ins, whether PixelGenius, NIK, OnOne, etc.; and even "fixed" plug-ins, like those from OnOne and NIK aren't fixed...they're workarounds or "live with it" solutions. Various plug-ins are an essential part of the workflow for many, probably the majority, of Photoshop users; it's disheartening that their seems to be so little collaboration between some of the major player and Adobe and vice-versa. I know it may be a bit too idealistic to think that updated plug-ins and the newest version of Photoshop would be released simulataneoulsy, but eight weeks without progress in some instances is baffling.

Well, actually, yes! Maybe the correct way would have been: "it might be useful knowledge for any who might not frequent this forum and the Imagenomic forum".

Where is the "Arrange Document" Icon in Top Menu Bar in PS CS6?

PS CS5 had icons in the top menu bar where the "Arrange Documents" icons were located. Now I can only find them in the Window drop down list. Are they still available in CS6? It was nice not having to find them in the "Window" drop down list.

Some UI (or is it UX, nowadays) genius at Adobe has reduced accessibility of frequently used features.
If there are particular arrangements you often use, assign keystrokes to the menu items.

Application Bar's "Arrange Documents" goes blank when curser hovers over it

Whenever the cursor hovers over the "Arrange Documents", "Screen Mode", "Launch Bridge", "View Extras", "Hand Tool", "Zoom Tool" and "Rotate View Tool" the icons go blank.
When clicking on them (i.e. "Arrange Documents") only alphanumeric is displayed. When moving the cursor over the blank area where icons should be displayed, only the pop-up tool tips are displayed.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

There is a work-around...
The following is NIK's answer to my question:
"Thank you for your email. This is a known issue that will be resolved with a future update. Until then there is a work around where if you just close and reopen the selective tool, the issue will go away. You can reopen the selective tool by going under the File > Automate option inside of Photoshop."

Why Tools list does not include the widget "Arrange documents"?

Why in the Configurator’s Tools list was not included the widget “Arrange documents” from Photoshop’s Menu Bar? It would be great to find N-up view buttons in the Configurator’s Tools list in future.

CS4: Arrange Document for Saddle Stitching Feature

I am going to be making a magazine or booklet printed on tabloid and then folded to create a booklet. Is there a feature in InDesign CS4 to make the arrangement quicker and easier? I could manually figure out how to arrange the pages but that seems like unnecessary work.
For future reference I'd also like to know the technical term for this technique of arranging the pages properly for saddle stitch binding so I can google this next time.

No copy shop I ever used accounts for creep. I send a book out now and then to see what the Staples does (There's one about 10 minutes from me).
Most shops use the same stock for their jobs. Almost without exception, I use 20# or 60# offset for inside pages. Occasionally the 80# gloss text job. You'd be surprised how accurate I can be. It's like any job. After years and years you get a pretty good feel. The majority of clients aren't even concerned about creep. Especially if they're supplying me the single pages. I'll adjust creep for jobs I design in house and will be pretty accurate.

Arrange Documents command, CS4

I have say, 3 images open in a tabbed window interface. I would like to take advantage of the the different document arrangements: vertical, horizontal etc. I choose 3 up and nothing happens. I make other arrange window choices and still nothing happens. Please tell me what I am missing here.

The drop-down panel is located on the Application bar, not the Toolbar.
If you click then slide pointer to icon and let go, nothing will happen. You need to click once to access the pop-up panel, then click again on the target icon. There's no need to double-click but it won't do any harm.
I'd be tempted to call it a bug since there are other pop-up panels that do not require a second click and neither do pop-up menus. In fact, on the same pop-up panel, you can click-slide to the text command to select it but you cannot use the same method to select an icon command.

Will someone at Adobe eventually release a solution/fix to that annoying problem that lasts since CS4 is out? Plugin makers like Nik Software seem unable to find a fix, Adobe doesn't comment or react and users are still struggling with this odd bug. Is more than one year not enough to fix this?

Plugin makers say that the problem is a bug in CS4 (which seems to be confirmed by the fact that the problem appears with various plugin vendors) and if all these developers are making the same mistake (all creating the very same bug - as a developer I find this rather unlikely), Adobe don't appear to be ready to publish any document helping them to get their plugin right.
and there are ways to avoid the problem anyway.
There are workarounds like launching the plugin each time you start a CS4 session or uninstalling the plugins that are generating this problem (as the culprit or the victim?) but I don't call this "avoiding the problem". Are you are aware of any fix that would make the problem totally disappear without having to do something specific each time you start CS4?

Arrange Document Tab Problem

When I open 5 or 6 pictures from the bridge in Photoshop (CS4) to open in Photoshop and I drop down the arrainge documents tab I can see about 1\2 of the commands to chose from (the bottom 1/2). I can't see the ones on the top of the tab, But when I move my mouse over the blank spot it shows in up in text, 2 up, 4 up, 5 up ect. How do I get them all to show like they should.

This is a well-documented and much discussed problem with CS4.
Make sure you have installed the 11.0.1 patch (check Help > About Photoshop)
Make sure you video card drivers are updated from the manufacturer's site.
If you have any 3rd party plug-ins try disabling or updating them.

How to arrange documents by specific date?

I really want to arrange my school word documents by specific date (e.g. October 16th) rather than more vague dates (e.g. last 30 days). Any way I can do this?

I assume the documents you wish to arrange are all in one folder? If so, you can arrange them using the View -> Clean Up By / Arrange By options.
