Arrangement of photos in Photos for Mac

Downloading my library to the new Photos for Mac resulted in the oldest photos (by date) coming out at the top and the newest at the bottom. In iPhoto it was possible, using "View>Sort Events" to organise the library by date order. Does anyone know please how to re-organise the library in Photos for Mac so that the newest photos come up at the top?

I also have a problem which I just noticed with iTunes 12.1.0.50 which I took a screen snapshot of and if I could get an email address and a reference # to track it, the problem is immediately apparent. Its not urgent so if you could send me an email back:
I am listing my songs by Album by Artist and in between
* one album (August & Everything After) by one artist (Counting Crows) and
* another album (Recovering The Satellites) by the same artist (Counting Crows),
I find a track from an entirely different album (Coral Fang) by another entirely different artist (The Distillers).
What's going on?

  • Can u suggest a photo/art collection for Mac?

I'm using Pages (Pages 1) to make some posters/brochures/programs for a conference.
I am looking for high-res photos to use to make a 2' x 3' poster, as well as some photos/art to use for the programs.
When I've found great photos to purchase (through, e.g. Getty Images) -- each high-res picture is more than $150 (half our printing budget- we're a small non-profit ).
I've gone to stores and seen CDs with "300,000" photos and clip art on them -- but they all seem to be for Windows.
Can anyone recommend a catalog of digital pictures that is inexpensive (less than $80) and compatible with Mac?
I love having Pages, but I need more artwork to put in it!
In case it matters: the pics I need are of a) nature and b) kids using t.v. & video games -- and should be at least 300 dpi.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Peggy and Barbara!
I had checked out Nova as per cm752004's response (above) - they do have a lot of clips-art! Right now I'm drawn to photos and photo-cut-outs.
For anyone in a similar place as I am (low in dollars but wanting good high-res photos), I would like to say that I am really pleased with what I bought from istockphoto. It was recommended to me on this thread, and I tried it. I searched (and advanced searched) through a huge assortment of member-posted photos and then was able to buy them in "small, medium, large, or x-large" formats for around $3, $5, $10, and $20 respectively. This is really handy when you want a pic for just web use and/or a pic for a poster (300 dpi) -- cheap, customized service.
Thanks to everyone who has added to this question. I wonder if the next version of pages could include an "objects sampler" with 1000 searchable photo cut-outs like the ones they supply in their templates? It would be handy to be able to search and use them within the inspector.?.

  • Sharing photos via Outlook for Mac 2011

I am using iPhoto 11 v 9.1.1 (527) and Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 v 14.0.2 (101115). I have Microsoft Entourage selected for "Email photos using" in the General Preferences dialog box (Outlook is not available as a choice).
When I attempt to share photos via Outlook email via:
    Share> Email >Compose Message
I get the following error message:
Microsoft Outlook got an error: Can't make {subject:"8 great iPhotos"} into type property of draft window.
Is there some way to make this work so that I can share photos via e-mail using Outlook?
I know I can use the media browser, but that doesn't allow you to add captions, or to control the size of the image.
    Thanks, Dave

    Yes - as noted
If you search the forums some people report to have found a solution Request Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback and Microsoft address this issue permanently
At this time Outlook is not supported but some people have reported to find a hack to solve this - have you searched for the post?

  • Can't see any of my photos in iPhoto for Mac

I've had an iMac Late 2012 for two years. Since then, I've kept all my photos from my camera and my iPhone in the iMac's iPhoto app.
For some months, I'd been having a constant problem: The events' icons were empty and it said the event's name and that it had 0 photos (each one had lots of photos). However, if I double clicked on the event, I could open it and I could see all the photos correctly.
But, since last week I have a very serious problem with iPhoto. When I open iPhoto, it says something like how to import photos (as if I hadn't ever used it before), all my photos, events, etc. are gone. However, I realized something that maybe didn't make me so sad. I went to Finder > Photos > iPhoto library, I right clicked it and selected "Show information" (I'm from Argentina and my Mac is in Spanish, so I'm trying to translate the things of the Mac to English the best I can), and Finder says its size is 86 GB (so I hope all my photos and videos are here!!!).
Extra data: 1. I right clicked the iPhoto Library folder in Finder and chose Show the content of the package, and there are two folders with the iPhoto Library icon called: Library.iPhoto and Library 6.iPhoto, both size is 22 bytes. Maybe could help you realize which is the problem.
    2. I also tried to updating my Mac to the last beta version, but the Photos app didn't solve my problem.
That you sooooo much for your help,
    Greetings,
    Nicolas.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo Gallery Software for Mac OS X Server

I'm porting my Linux server infrastructure over to Mac OS X Server. I've successfully moved over my DNS, Mail and most of my web sites to Mac without a problem. However, the last website is causing me a bit of pain. In Linux I was using Gallery 2 (http://gallery.menalto.com/), but I'm not sure how to get this to work on Mac OS X. In particular there are a bunch of dependencies that I'm not sure exist in Mac (ffmpeg, etc.)
    * Is there an alternative photo gallery software that people use which may install/work better on the Mac? We have wiki and blog services in the Web Server Admin pane, but I don't see a photo gallery service.
    * Has anybody had success in using gallery2 over to the Mac? What dependencies were needed and how did you find them?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi
For me it has to be RumpusFTP Server:
    http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/
It has a secure web interface - no need to open ports 20, 21. No need for dedicated FTP client software for uploading and downloading. Supports the most commonly used browsers. Multi-platform support and can be installed on a standard client OS.

  • Free photo editing software for Macs & PCs?

    Hi folks!
I am looking for a free photo editing software to use for an upcoming class. I have a MacBook at home, but I will be teaching in a classroom equipped with PCs. I was hoping to find a free software that students could practice on in class and then download free for use at home afterward.
Have been trying to download Gimp 2.8.2, but I can't get it to install on my Mac OS 10.6.8 - It downloads but will not start.
Please let me know any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance!

i guess i want something where you can directly play with the images...cut out a section of the picture.....replace it with something else (like add icon/pictures over top of it)
also, the ability to paint colors over the picture and alter them in other ways, not just image quality or resizing it...
if there are no free programs for this, what are some cheap ones?
i looked at the programs that have been posted alreaedy, and i don't think that they are really what im looking for...
    thank you!

  • HP Scanjet 4850 Photo Scanner driver for Mac OS9.x

I need the driver and other information to get my scanner to work.
Driver says that it has unknown author and will not install

    Hi 44621,
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community,  as the HP Scanjet 4370 is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging.  When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the  HP Scanjet 4370 Photo Scanner supportpage helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.
    Best of luck.

  • New i Photo and Outlook for Mac

    Hi,
I have just installed the new version of I photo and checked that it is set to open Outlook as my prefered mail prog.
When I select share these photos  in i Photo  it does not open  Outlook. The previous versions have always done so and this is a bore beceause whilst I would like to use Mail I cannot  migrate my address book back to the native Mail prog  "Mail" as there is no means I have been offered to to do so.
Please can you help with a fix for this or if not a re install previous version fix if this is not possible.
    Regards
    David

Mail doesn't have an Addresbook, it uses the native Contacts app. Whatever you're using now for Contacts, does't it support export to standard sharing formats, like vCard?

  • Problems sharing photos through IPhoto for mac

I am using iphoto9.6 on a mac mini (late 2012).
My experience is not great, I'm a disappointed with the overall speed that everything only mac happens.
I'd like to address each of my problems one at a time, I'm kind of hoping that maybe resolving one problem will solve a lot of the others.  (Always the optimist!)
SO.. I want to share a photo through messages, some times it works, often I get this message, some times other things go wrong.
I know thats not much info to go on, but if anyone can tell me what additonal info is required I will do my best to provide it.
One thing I will note is it sounds like my Mac is working its socks off, pretty much all the time, I'm not really asking it to do much, just open a few web pages and view a few photos in iPhoto mainly.
    Any help greatly appreciated

  • Does anyone know of a great photo editor (obviously for Mac)

I'm looking for one that is able to drag images into eachother. I'm mainly focusing on a great sprite creating program.

Here's a tip: don't expect folks on here to download an application from a source they don't now just because you won't explain with more care what you want.
I went to the site and the first thing I noted is that almost all the graphics on there are drawings, not photo edits.
In one of your posts you say:
Like I want to be able to make images bigger than a computer screen.
    And you title the thread
Does anyone know of a great photo editor
So, are you looking for a drawing programme? A Photo Editor? Or what? If you want a photo editor that will "make images bigger than a computer screen" where is the app to do this? By Printing? By zooming in? How?
It's very difficult to help someone who apparently wants a drawing programme but that might be a photo editor.

  • Is there a Canon i960 photo printer driver for mac os x 10.7?

trying to download the i960 driver for my iMac which is on os X 10.7 on canon.com. The download page only provide driver up to OS X 10.6. Anyone tried to make i960 printer work with OS X 10.7?

According to this Apple article about supported printer drivers available from Apple Software Update, your i960 is listed. So if you connect the printer to the Mac via USB cable and the Mac is connected to the Internet, the driver should be downloaded and installed automatically.

Even though Aperture has crashed twice while using the albums tool, and it lacks creative options(drop shadows for one)... I did however like the interface.
What albums tools do you all use and what are the prices of the output?

    Ahh from labprints.com
I see White House Color is using their interface for ordering now...
In your opinion, what is the quality of the finished album?

Is there a "best" photo editing app for mac that may do a little more than iphoto? I'm interested in helping my photos to look a little better as far as lighting, contrast, etc. but not fake stuff like photoshop effects. I'm a newbie at this. Maybe I should just stick with iphoto?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Try these:

  • Captions in iPhoto for Mac

It is easy to caption photos in iPhoto for iOS, by clicking "Add Caption."  How do you caption photos in iPhoto for Mac?  Where is the iPhoto for iOS caption stored in the Exif data?

    Terence,
Thanks once again.  At least in my version of iPhoto, the words "Add a description..." do not appear when you are looking at an individual photo, although they are there when looking at an Event.  In my ignorance of iPhoto, I did not know that the dialog box was even there in the absence of the "Add a description..." indication.  Once I found it by moving my cursor over there, I was able to type in the description (as well as the Title in the similarly unlabeled dialog box above.  See below.
