Arranging Apps on Mac

I can arrange apps on my MacBook Pro, itunes 11. Then sync with the iPhone 4s. Syncing has no effect on the apps, or arrangment on the iPhone.
If I leave the apps tab, then come back to it, it reloads app arrangment form iPhone. How can I fix this issue?

Not sure what is going on. As I was typing though...I had just unchecked Angry Birds and was downloading Angry birds HD. Then once it was done it add back Angry Birds regular and now they're both side by side. Like it was magic or something.

Arranging Apps on Mac/iTunes not keeping settings

I have synced, rearranged, removed but it keeps adding back the ones I've deleted and puts them in a new spot. I've got my app icons arranged where I want them. Then I have unchecked or clicked the circled X and it keeps changing what I've done or I lose what I've done. Getting frustrating. I don't usually have this many problems with Apple products.

Cool Apps. for Macs

I just purchased my first mac a macbook pro about a month ago and i was wondering what are the best applications to download for a mac? What do these applications do and where they can be found? I have seen a lot of cool apps for macs but i just don't know which ones are worth downloading and i will have he most fun with. Thank you very much. I cant wait to get your suggestions.

Again, the problem with your question is that it's too broad: You're like a guy standing in front of a carpenter, a plumber and an electrician and saying: Look I got a great new toolbox, what cool tools should I get? And the first thing those guys are going to say is: What's the job you're trying to do? A woodsaw ain't much help for cutting pipe?
So FileMaker Pro is a great database app. Explore it to the fullest. You'll master it in about a year. See the problem?

iPhoto is on your Mac. You can use external editors with it:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Other photo apps worth looking at:
PhotoPresenter is an excellent slideshow app.
If you want to make slideshow movies: iMovie, PhotoToMovie, Final Cut Express are all excellent for the job - they're arranged in price order there too.

There are a multitude of online tutorials, forums and whatever on digital photography - google them. Again, that's another year of your life used up

Re-arranging apps in iPad / iTunes syncing

I was arranging my apps in my iPad into the folders that mirror my iPhone (because of the issue with restoring iPad from iPhone backup and folder arrangment doesn't sync).
I tried re-arranging the apps in iTunes, but everytime I sync'ed, the apps on the iPad would revert back to the original restore.
What I did was:
1) delete the iPad backup from iTunes.
2) eject iPad from iTunes
3) re-arrange apps on iPad
4) re-connect to iTunes using cable.
5) back up and sync to iTunes
Hope this helps someone else.

I get that ipad specific apps wouldn't transfer, but I'm talking games like angry birds and words with friends, stuff that I would have to repurchase to get on my iphone at this point even though they're in my itunes.
I went to the app store on my iphone and looked where you said but they weren't there either.
Can I really not put games I've purchsed on more than one device with the same itunes acct?? that seems odd...

The solution was to remove all versions of Acrobat Pro and reinstall Acrobat Pro XI. I still had the download file in my Time Machine backup. That's a good thing, since the download link from the order listing on the Adobe website under my account would not work.
The problems don't occur with version 11.0.0. I got the work done, now I'm updating to 11.1.0 and will report if they came back.

Same problem here in Brazil.
It seems to be a problem with logging in App Store in the Mac (Yosemite 10.10.2).
When I tried the very same userid and password I was able to login in to use my iCloud account from the same computer and also from my iPhone.

Text-to-speech no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.5.

Text-to-speech is no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.4/5. Does anyone know the software component that passes highlight text over to the speech synthesiser? How is this process different in PDF's compared to any other text format?
So far I have tried Preview, Skim, PDFView, Safari, Evernote and Adobe Reader with the result: silence. The only defference being Adobe Reader which speaks the name of the document and not the highlighted text. I've re-applied the Mac OS10.8.5 como-update, fixed prefs, ran FSCheck and changed user. I've tried every method of triggering the text-to-speech function (including custom scripts). Text-to-speech works perfectly in every other respect exept when working with PDF's. When Maveriks arrives I will do a clean install and rebuild my data manually which I'm pretty certain will fix the problem but it would be extremely rewarding to find an actual solution and learn something in the process.

Rawr! I got it to work, sort of. I think I tried so hard because I hated the thought of using alsa-oss. And I discovered a couple bugs in spd-conf! Does anyone care? lol
Basically, I redid my TTS-related configs & put them under ~/ instead of /usr/share, and ran "festival --server" & "speech-dispatcher -s" as a normal user. I also added myself to the "audio" group somewhere along the line, but I don't think that was the issue.
I'm almost afraid to reboot, because, although speech-dispatcher can be started at boot-time through rc.conf's DAEMONS array, I don't think festival can---at least, not in the same way as it can on distros that have the script /etc/default/festival. I'm about to see if I can track down that file, and hope I don't break everything somehow.
KTTSMgr still doesn't see any synthesizers, but I got past the "dummy module" message. Now I'm hoping I'll get some help from someone who actually knows what to do (as opposed to me).

P.S One small complaint: Although my speechd.conf specified port 6561, speech-dispatcher's tests showed that it was looking for a connection on port 6560 first, before scanning to find the real port. I had to change to port 6560 to stop the behaviour, even though I never customized the port number in the first place.

Is there an easy way to arrange apps?

I just had to restore my phone from backup because of an error in updating the software and now I have an empty phone! I chose the option to restore from backup and the backup I used was from 45 minutes prior. After running this restore, there were no apps on my phone! I would think that restoring would put everything back the way it was at the time that you last backed up, but apparently not.....
Now, my problem is organizing these apps. I have 206 apps on my phone. I have been getting these for almost a year now and organizing them into folders as I purchased them, so I never had more than 3 pages on apps on my phone. Now if I synch these as they are showing in iTunes, I will have 15 pages of apps! I spent two hours going through in iTunes to just get it down to 10 pages and finally gave up. It is so hard to move apps from page to page or to create folders in iTunes. Actually creating folders isn't the problem, it's next to impossible to rearrange apps on a page! I try to move an app to switch the order and I end up creating a new folder. Then I try to get it out of the folder and it puts it on a different page. There has got to be a better way!!!!!!!!!
Please, if ANYBODY knows of a better/easier way to arrange apps, I am all ears! I have stopped at 10 pages and am synching just so I can go to bed. I have my commonly used apps basically where I want them, but I really don't want to spend the hours that it is going to take me to get these back the way I want them either using iTunes or on the phone itself. Any suggestions?

The only way to arrange apps on your phone is either in iTunes or directly on your phone.
FYI:
No iTunes content is included in the iPhone backup. After you restore from backup, you must immediately sync to restore your iTunes content. Some users have reported having to restore from backup, followed by immediately restoring from backup again, BEFORE syncing to restore their iTunes content to preserve their app arrangement in various folders.

You have to log into iPhone App Store and purchase the iPhone version of the apps. Mac apps only run on Macs, iOS apps only run on iPhone/iPads/iPods.

Third party application enhancers such as Little Snitch, Peer Guardian, or anti virus software could be preventing access to the App Store.

Is there a way to pass files to a LV app in Mac OS X?

There is an option in the Finder in Mac OS X to open files with the specified application. I tried it with my LV app, but unfortunately I haven't found any way to read out the filename passed to the app.
(The Application/Command Line Arguments Property didn't work in this case.)
Has anyone ever tried to pass files to a LV app in Mac OS X? I mean not in the command line but in the Finder.

When I understand this right - and as I am not so much of a MAC Expert - you want to do the following:
1. You are in a file finder, where you can click on files an select: "open with ProgrammXY"
2. That ProgrammXY should be a LabVIEW App you created that can open files for Analysis.
3. The LabVIEW App catches from somewhere the path-string and name of the file that was selected to be opened with your LabVIEWApp, like from some
kind of property node or function.
4. How to do that?
I do not think that is possible, at least I do not know a way to do that in Windows so I doubt there is a way to do that in MAC OS.
<<Anyway, it could even be an empty App, the main question is if it is even possible to get the filename in a LV App if we open it in Finder.
When you cannot configure the Finder in a way so that he writes the file name as a command line parameter in the opening call .- exuse me if that is not MAC vocabulary - I do not see a way how to do this.

My area of interest is in business and economic history. There is a considerable amount of reading and charting. Until the iPad hit the streets, I only considered stacks of books, journals, and downloaded documents, all marked up with highlighters, underlines, and marginal notes.
Most of my PC based work involved MS Office, Endnote, and MS OneNote.
What I would like to do with the iPad and MacBook are the same things (Office, Endnote, OneNote) and add the ability to read and markup all forms of printed materials from books to pdf to webpages.
I cut my teeth on an iPod Touch and have tried a lot of the note taking and reading apps. Without a camera the standard iPod Notes works for short quick notes and long think pieces. I just emailed the content and downloaded the stuff to my PC. Obviously, I do not want to continue at this "non-integrated" level of work.
