Arranging files on OS X 10.8.3

I Haave just upgraded to OS X 10.8.3 and all my files are moved and not in order. When I try to arrange them they dont move .
I con move each file one by one but as there are too many files on my mac its too hard.
Anyone had this problem b4??

Are you talking about files in a particular folder or on your desktop? If on the desktop, have you tried right-clicking and selecting Sort By->None (even if it's already selected)?

  • How to arrange files by multiple categories?

I'm trying to figure something out. How do you arrange files in finder by multiple categories? For example, I'm in the documents folder
-I have it arranged by kind ( so it is split into secetions, PDF, DOC, DMG, etc)
-I want to be able to also arrange it by file type in other folders (files in it's respective categories)?
example: In my downloads folder I have it arrange by Kind and sorted by date added. The document sections have all my DOC, PDF, AND DMG's  are together mixed up instead I want it to be like
    PDF's
    DMG's
    etc
Is this possible by chance? Thanks ahead of time!

Clicking on an column header will sort on that column. Clicking that same header a second time will reverse the sort order. Click the Date header.

  • "Arrange files by type" doesn't take file extension into account

After upgrading system to a Mountain Lion I was unpleasantly surprised.
The "Arrange files by type" option doesn't work any more. bmp, jpg, raw, zip, psd, tar.gz and so on - now Finder considers all these file types as "Documents" and puts them into one group. Meanwhile when i open file info it shows correct file type "Adobe Photoshop document", "Windows bitmap" etc.
Is there any way to override this behavior and make Finder arrange files by their extension?

I've fixed the problem. It was related to the wrong configuration of the bundle name.

  • Arranging Files

When I go into View to arrange Files in a folder sometimes I am given the option to  Arrange By  and sometimes I am given the option to Keep Arranged By

    Hi,
Can you please share the screenshots where you see these options.
    Thanks,

  • How can I arrange files manually?

how can I arrange files manually, rather than alphabetically?

    Use Icon View.
Adjust the icon size and position relative to the text to your liking, then drag the icons to the exact arrangement you would like.

  • Arranging files in a Folder

I want to be able to drag and drop files in a folder how I want them placed and not (as my Mac wants) by either Name or Type or Date Created. I just want to arrange an order and have it stay that way (not unlike a playlist).

When I do as you describe I never get the option to "Keep arranged by" or anything pertaining to "This window only" or "All windows"
From my Finder/Show View Options I see this:
A box to "Always open in list view"
A choice of Icon size and Text size
    Show columns:
    Date modified
    Date created
    Size
    Kind
    Version
    Comments
    Label
    The three more boxes asking:
    Use relative dates
    Calculate all sizes
    Show icon previews
and at the end it asks:
    Use as defaults
And that's all I get the chance to do.

  • How to arrange files in the files window?

    Hello,
I just finished doing the cut of a movie in Premiere Pro and hit the the "edit in Audition" button to do the music and audio. And now the problem: when Audition opened I just saw the hundreds of audio files in the file window (2 for every scene) and until now I didn't find out any possibility to arrange them in subfolders or anything else like you do it in AE or Premiere.
So right now Audition is more or less useless as I have to spend minutes to find my music files within the other files...
    Thanks for any proposals...

What option did you use to send your files over?  There's two "paradigms" for editing in Audition from within Premiere.  The first is editing of specific assets or clips.  In this case, you select one or more clips and choose Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition > Edit Clip which will perform a render & replace operation, then open the new, linked files in Audition.  Any change you make to these files in Audition will be reflected in the corresponding Premiere clip.  This is generally the mode used when you want to perform Noise Reduction or add effects to specific clips.
The other paradigm is editing the entirety of the sequence.  This method creates a new session in Audition that mirrors your current Premiere timeline, even rendering a preview video.  Here, you can apply edits to any clip in the timeline within Audition, re-record portions, add new audio, and mix and master the session, sending back rendered stems to Premiere.
Audition doesn't emulate the "project" format of Premiere, so the Files panel is less of an organizational tool than a collection of the raw assets in a timeline.  We are exploring how the "bin" concept that Pr and AE use might be applied, but historically there is a definite distinction between the two workflows.

  • Re-arranging files to new sequence order by name to export

    Hi,
Is it possible to re-arrange picture files within a LiteRoom Window?
How to organize a list of picture files merged from different Windows Folders into a user order?
This should be an obvious requirement of any SQL Database program.
How else can picture files from various locations be organized into a correctly formatted order?
I would hope a simple drag and move option would be available.
Once the correct order was arranged, a file renaming process would establish that correct order to be used in any application or browser.
For instance: to produce a list of files to be shown in the Sony Playstation to be displayed on a HDTV in a preferred order.
Fortunately, Sony did not use a Dos bassed Windows OS when they designed the Playstation 3.
Nevertheless, everyone else seems to have done so.
    Thanks,
    Howie

User Sort Order is what you're looking for. Whilst it's fairly easy to achieve there are a couple things you need to be aware of.
First, to change the sort order of files within a folder you simply click on the image part of the thumbnail in grid view then drag to where you want it to appear in the sequence.
Second, when you apply above procedure with files across multiple folders the photos will be moved from one folder to another - I doubt that's what you want, so don't do it.
The best way to reorder files that are located across multiple folders is to create a Collection that contains all of the files you want to include in the sequence. Next, click and drag the photos within the Collection to to where you want them to be.
File renaming and exporting should be fairly straight forward after that.

  • Arranging files with in a portfolio for adobe standard 9

I have been trying to figure out a way to arrange and save the files in an order that is not alphbetical with in a portfolio.  So far I haven't been able to and renaming them to be alpahbetical isn't condusive to what I am trying to do.  Any ideas?

The version is Adobe Reader 10.1.0    I will request the latest version
and let you know if that fixes the problem
Actually I had changed the name of the file so our associates could access
the file (changed the  .  to a hyphen)  It still made me wonder why Reader
wouldn't open it at that time.
Thanks again for you assistance and I will let you know if this resolves

    Hi Susan,
    Thanks for providing the information.
Could you also let me know what is the exact version of Adobe Reader on
your system. You can check the same y clicking on Help > About Adobe
    Reader X.
In case its not 10.1.1, please try updating to the latest version and see
    if the problem persists.
Also, does any other PDF with a different filename open in Internet
    Explorer correctly?
    Thanks
    Ankit

  • Can't seem to arrange files in Files panel.  (Mac).

Hi, I’m teaching myself Dreamweaver on a Mac.
I can’t seem to move and re-arrange my file and folders in the Files panel.  When I try to move one file to another location on the Files panel (not into a folder) it just moves back to its original location.  My PC based guide book says you can do this but I can’t on my Mac.  Is this not possible or am I just doing something stupidly wrong.  I have lots of files that I want to arrange in a specific sequence for clarity.
    HELP!!!!

Rearranging files arbitrarily would be news to me. I've been using DW in various versions over the years and never knew of that behavior (if it exists). I'm not a power user, though, so anything is possible. Perhaps something to do with design notes? What is the exact wording in the book you mentioned and for what version of DW? What version are you using?

  • Manually arranging files in finder for slideshow order?

I have a folder full of photo files from a recent vacation. Half of them are from my camera, half from my boyfriend's camera, and they all are named as the original file name the cameras gave them. I want to arrange them in chronological order, blending the two sets of photos together, to view as a slide show (ideally right from the finder window itself).
I turned off sorting and arranging so that I can manually move the icons around, but when I go into slide show mode it reverts to showing them in order of the names.
Besides renaming all 300 files in numerical order, do I have a way to drag these into an order that will stick?
    Thanks!

I found a way to kind of manually sort files in a folder...
    I’m doing this on Maverick.
This doesn't work when you are in "View as Icons" mode.
    Click on file.
Command + i (for “Get Info” in the File menu).
An Info window of that file will pop up.
Click on the arrow to expand the "Comments:" tab.
Type a number ("1" for if you want the file to be first in the list, "5" if you want it to be the fifth, etc.). Or you could use letters.
Exit out of the Info window.
Command + J (for "Show View Options" in View menu).
Click the box next to "Comments." Make sure a checkmark appears.
Click Use As Defaults so Comments will show up every time. It will show up for every folder you open (as long as the folder has at least one file showing). So, hopefully that doesn't annoy you.
Now there is a new column called "Comments" in your Finder window.
You can drag the "Comments" column to any position (like right after the "Name" column) if you want.
When you click the Comments column, it will sort the files in numerical order (based on what you put for your comments). Or alphabetical order if you chose to use letters instead of numbers.
Still haven't figured out how to make this sorting option default since Comments isn't one of the options to Sort By in the View Options window. So, you'd have to click the Comments column to sort the numbers each time you open that folder.

  • Arranging Files with iTunes

Is it possible to arrange the physical files (not just the names) on your drive? So that all my music is properly kept my artist or album (or however you want!).
Or will I have to find a third party program to do this?
    Thanks in advance

Not from within iTunes, no. You can do this manually (moving and renaming the folders in Windows) but doing so will break iTunes' links to the tracks so you'll have to turn off the option in iTunes to have it keep the Music folder organized, clear your iTunes library and re-add the tracks (you'll probably need to recreate any playlists you have). You'll also need thereafter to use something else to import your CDs and then add them to iTunes.

  • Can someone advise how to solve a glitch with arranging files in Finder

I have a peculiar glitch in Finder: I cannot arrange alphabetically in the column view even though I check, arrange by name.  When I do that, list view loses the expand triangle in front of the folder.  Can anyone suggest a solution?
Here is what the column and list view windows look like when arrange by name is clicked:

Go to view option and select sort by.

  • Displaying (arranging) files by date or sequential order

I've uploaded a zip file w/ multiple word/html files; however they need to be listed in sequential order (section 1, section 2, etc.) They are diplaying in random order. I do not see and icon that allows me to rearrange the order of files.
    Suggestions?
    thanks

The order of items in a content area folder is controlled by the folder layout of the style. By default it should be giving you blue up arrows next to each item. These arrows allow you to move items up and down within the folder. You can also choose to order by file size or title by editing the folder style and selecting the order preference for a specific region of the folder layyout.

  • HT203052 How to arrange files in folders

I prefer working with lists by name or kind.  How can I format my icloud to do so?

Ah, good info. Yes, the iCloud interface is very bare bones, and it displays as icons and sorts alphabetically for me. There's no way to change it that I know of, and I checked.
It would be nice if there were more options on the web, but I sorta think that Apple is figuring that people will use their Macs or their iOS devices as the primary interface to iCloud drive, and the web is just there in case you really need to access a document that's up there when you're away from your devices, and it's not intended to be a full-featured management interface.
