Arranging of 'folders' in 'Finder'

Hi, I need some assistance with rearranging my folders in "Finder" Can you tell me how the folders should be set out.  I am trying to organize my photos and have too many 'Picture' and 'Iphoto' folders?  would you be able to send me a diagram of how the folders should be.  Should the iPhoto folder be inside the Picture folder?
Thank you

There is no "right" way, just the way that you want.
The Pictues Folder is a logical place for the iPhoto Library and that's where the OS will put it.

I don't think that is possible. You can manually arrange them, but there is no ability to automatically do it.

  • Cannot save email attachments to folders in Finder

Ughhh, I'm getting a sinking feeling.... It's happening again.
Ever since I installed Mavericks back in June of 2014, I've had nothing but problems. In fact, the actual install (perhaps coincidentally, I'm told) caused my hard drive to fail in mid-install, even though it was only 2 years old. Apple Care cheerfully paid for the new hard drive and installed Mavericks for me, but ever since my previously fast, responsive computer has been incredibly sluggish, lots of beach balls, tons of problems with things like the one I'm experiencing again today -- can't save email attachments to folders in Finder (the computer behaves as if the save was successful, but when you go look in the Finder later, you discover it was never saved anywhere). Also, I can't create any new folders because it says the location is Read Only (I've tried various file locations -- same result).
Since June, after countless visits to the Genius Bar and all sorts of attempts to fix the accumulating problems, the Genius erased my User Library last December in a final attempt to get the computer to work right before my Apple Care ran out. It was one of many attempted fixes that would actually work pretty well for a few days, but then the problems would accumulate again.
Last week, Word kept crashing. I took it to the Genius Bar and the June 2014 hard drive failed a diagnostic test. Even though Apple Care had expired, Apple replaced the hard drive for free because they could see the long list of notes from all of the visits I had made to the Genius Bar. I restored everything and, although it seemed to be working okay at first, I was still getting a lot of beach balls. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to open a Word document, even if the application is already open. (FYI, I don't keep a lot of applications running.) But at least it was working. Today, however, I'm seeing some of the old familiar problems creep in. I cannot save email attachments to a folder. I cannot create new folders. I've tried restarting the computer multiple times. All of this was working fine as recently as yesterday.
    1. Am I doing something that is causing this? This is my sixth Mac and I've never a serious problem with ANY of the others (including one that I bought USED) and I use them at least 8 hours a day. As far as I know, I'm doing everything the same way I've always done it.
    2. Has anyone else encountered this "Read Only" problem and do you know how to fix it? I'm starting to think this is just a bad computer and that this is a symptoms that something is very wrong again.
    3. Do I simply need to start over with a brand new computer (although, frankly, I'm scared to restore everything onto a new computer and risk "infecting" the new one). This is my work computer and I am self-employed, so I really cannot afford to be running to the Genius Bar once or twice a week any longer. Any advice? It's a MacBook Pro that I bought in December 2011. According to the stats, I'm using 354.68 GB of my 499.25 GB storage capacity.
Sorry this is so long. Just trying to give the context.

    Hi:
Of course this is possible on SharePoint Server 2010 and is a very nice functionality, in this link (http://www.sharepointboost.com/blog/setting-up-sharepoint-2010-incoming-mail/)
you can find a detailed information of how to set up the incoming email o SharePoint 2010 document library step by step.

  • Can't open certain folders in Finder. Please help!

I recently upgraded from my old PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro, and certain folders that I transferred via flash drive from my old computer won't open. When I double click any of these folders, the Finder window immediately closes and then all the icons on my desktop disappear and reappear (after about half a second). This is really starting to get on my nerves! I know that the contents of these folders are intact, because I can see them in the "Open..." dialog in certain programs, but I can't view them in the Finder, so I can't move, copy, or do much else with them. Does anybody know what I can do about this? I would be eternally grateful for any help.

Incidentally, another thing I did was expand one of the offending folders in List view in my Documents folder, so I actually can't even open my Documents folder in Finder. In other words, say I had a folder in my Documents folder called "Pix". In the List view of the Documents folder, I clicked the arrow next to "Pix" and since that expanded "Pix," which I can't seem to open, it shut down the Finder window. So now whenever I try to open my Documents folder, it shuts down the window, since it's also trying to open the (expanded) "Pix" folder. A stopgap measure for un-expanding that folder would also be appreciated, if anybody has any smart ideas.
    Thanks.

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

  • Photo folders in Finder disappeared

My photo folders in Finder from 6/07 to present disappeared after a crash and a rebuild. The library reverted to the last time I crashed and rebuilt which was in May. I've tried finding .jpgs over 30kb using Finder,I tried the File Salvage program, nothing. Just boom gone. iPhoto doesn't see them, presumably cuz they aren't there. I'm using iPhoto 5.04. Oh yeah, I did Disk First Aid from the boot disk as well. Any ideas? Could my database before the (most recent) crash be in the Mac bowels somewhere since apparently my rebuilt db from 5/07 was?

  • Can't name new folders or rename existing folders in Finder

I can't name new folders or rename existing folders in Finder. I've never had this happen before. I tried both using the new folder icon and choosing "new folder" from the actions icon. The only unusual thing I'm doing now is working with Spaces enabled, but I can't imagine that this has anything to do with the problem. Selecting and hitting "return" doesn't allow me to either erase existing text or overwrite with new text. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Same here --
I just created a new folder and couldn't change its name. Finder would give me "more info" (permissions certainly not an issue) and allow me to delete (and then recreate) the folder, but not change its name.
Problem came from out of the blue, on a one-week-old system with all OS updates. Also found this old thread, which also suggests a Finder restart: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8989639
So that'll probably do it, but what gives?
Not so impressed with 10.5.7 so far... first a complete system crash while doing no more than downloading updates (a few hours after booting up for the first time), then networking stopped working (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2003868), now this...

Is there a way to collapse /all/ folders in Finder instead of hunting them down and closing all of them one by one?
    Thanks.

    Hotwheels22 wrote:

I really still do not understand this question. Presumably you are not referring to List View (which is what I associate with collapse/expand). Icon View will open/close folders; List View will expand/collapse directory trees; Column View will scroll through path hierarchies; which one are you trying to do?
Do you mean you want to open multiple folders while in Icon View? If so, select the folders you want and hit ⌘+↓. All of them will open as long as they are all from the same Finder window. Afterwards, for you to close all Finder windows except one, you'd need to use one of the two AppleScripts I linked earlier.
Maybe you are asking for a method to double-click one folder and have it and all its subfolders open up in their own Finder windows (essentially, you want to open all nested folders with one click)? I think you'd need to build an AppleScript for that. The OS will not have such a function built in because the depth of some directory trees could easily freeze a computer.
i have a ton of documents and it is really inconvenient to have to open /all/ the folder to find things.
If you assigned non-generic names to your folders and documents, you should be able to use Spotlight and Smart Folders to get to your files. For example, since I name my project files with the format DateProject_DocumentVersion, it's easy for me to create a Smart Folder that shows me all finalized/approved parts lists from a project I did two years ago, regardless of where they're located in my archives. It's even easier if you also use Spotlight Comments and/or color labels.
then when i get them open it is a total pita going and collapsing all of them. i guess i can close out of the finder window altogether but i'd like to stay in the same window and keep working.
Did you try either one of the two AppleScripts I linked earlier? They allow you to close all Finder windows except the active one. Finder doesn't have a built-in, default option to close all windows except the active one.
btw, i'd also like to do the equivalent for windows on the desktop so i can get to the desktop quickly. right now I have to move them over or minimize them one by one...
i guess getting familiar with expose or witch may do this?
Exposé can temporarily displace (not hide) all windows to show just the Desktop. ⌥⌘H will hide all other applications except the active one (or if you wish to specify which particular application stays unhidden, ⌥⌘+click the app's icon on the Dock). To actually hide (not close) all visible windows, you'll need to run an AppleScript ➚.
also can i ask you if there is a way for me to post a video of screenshots to this site? i have an issue that would be helped by doing this...
You'd need to upload to a video host, like YouTube, and then paste the link over here.

  • Arranging form folders in hyperion planning alphabetically

Is there a way to arrange the form folders in hyperion planning alphabetically? Can we, and if we can is it the only way, sort the folder names in the relational tables in back-end?
Or is there a way in the planning web to do the same?
I would like to know if there is a second option as I might be adding new folders periodically and would need to re-arrange the folders alphabetically each time.
    Thanks,
    Pawan.

    Hi,
We tried doing it the LCM way - delete all folder and LCM back all in - but it didn't work. mostly it was like the folders were getting in, in the same order they were created. It is only in LCM that the folders are coming in alphabetical order. (LCM is designed to internally sort and show up - i suppose).
Naming the folder with numerals first would need us to rename the folders again and again - but it was the same as creating a new folder and moving the forms manually in alphabetical order by ourselves.
Hope Oracle does something to put in a sort button in the folder administration.
    Thanks,
    pawan.

  • IPhoto Albums to Folders in Finder?

OK...I think I'm getting the hang of the iPhoto system. I had all of my photos organized in folders on my PC. I have now learned that when I drag each folder into iPhoto an album is automatically created. COOL! But...
What about going the other way? If I ever want to burn some photos on a CD and would like to have those photos organized as I have them on the album? I know that there may come "a day" when I need to transport pics and view, org, print, on a PC and I want to view my organization. I tried to drag the album into the finder and it won't take. I also tried exporting but it exports the files and not the album. I'd have to manually create all the folders in Finder one at a time and than export the appropriate photos into them. Is there a simpler way?
I'm definitely more comfortable using iPhoto. Now, I'm just trying to make sure that I'm not in a bind later.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    chnewtomac;
To move a photo to another roll you must drop it on the roll icon/title. Not in side the roll if it is open. That gets a lot of users at first.
As far as those deleted files are concerned check the iPhoto Trash bin. Hitting the delete key on a selected photo in a roll only moves it to the iPhoto Trash bin. You need to empty the trash with either the CommandShiftDelete key combination or the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
