Arranging Photos When Synching MobileMe from Aperture to web

When I arrange the photos in my mobile me album in Aperture by "Rating", then synch it from aperture to the web, it keeps going back to "Manual", affecting the photo arrangements I intended. Of course, when i send the link to the client what he sees will be totally different from what I'm talking about.
The annoying thing is I keep telling it to arrange photos by Rating, synch it again, and it goes back to Manual, over and over. I have about 300 photos in the album, and sometimes it takes long.

Thanks to you all for the help and welcoming to the forum. I will get a color calibrator tomorrow as I know I need it. That link is very helpful also.
So far in my 1st two weeks running a mac, barring a few issues that I believe can be addressed with system updates, I am more than happy I made the switch.
I find photoshop and all my image editing software run really fast compared to my old windows pc. The funny thing is my pc is a 3.2ghz processor and my mbp is a 2ghz processor. Go figure!!
I like aperture a lot also but I am also pleased with lightroom. There is one major reason why I find myself using lightroom still. I can't find a way to edit multi images in aperture. In lr I just select the images I want to say change white balance, I select the preset wb or color temp. and then it updates all the images I have selected. Is there an equivalent to this action in aperture? I think if I had this available to me I would very very happy with aperture.

  • Is there any way to get aperture to include caption and title with a photo when emailing directly from aperture?

I have been all over and it seems impossible to do... but it also seems impossible that I'm the only one who wants to put a title and description with a photo once, and then have that follow the photo when I email it, rather than having to re-type each little tidbit every single time I email an image. I use aperture for work and am always creating custom batches of images to send to prospective clients. it's crazy having to re-do the information every time.
Any suggestions for workarounds, plugins... something I'm missing?? iphoto used to do this automatically but it seems it doesn't anymore. even knowing the reason why they aren't allowing it might make me feel less insane
    thanks!

    Thanks both of you!
I think my iphoto settings must have defaulted back when I migrated to my new computer because sure enough, when I followed your instructions it went back to emailing the descriptions, which is great, and I hadn't ever tried opening the same library in iphoto. That's really convenient. It's too bad (and sort of strange I think) that Aperture doesn't have the same feature but as workarounds go this one is quite lovely.
The only remaining question is why, when I do open the library in iphoto, the description is intact but there is no title other than the version name?
For example, in aperture there is the version name, which is something like _DSC1733, the title I added in the "title" bar, which might be "diamond necklace" and then the description which is "18" long, 2carats total weight, platinum, 2013".
When I open the library in iphoto, the version name is at the top and under it is the decription, and the title is gone.
Unless there is another button I missed I think I have to go in and add the title into the description, and then just uncheck the version name when emailing so it doesn't show up.
Any advice? Hope I made the question clear-ish

  • Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?

Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?  Changing the quality of the print changes the size of the saved file and thus impacts the speed at which it is moved on the internet.  But other than size of the file, what is the advantage of changing the quality?

I have no idea why you would want to do anything
Some people want lower quality to reduce file size for different reasons
It is an option - if you do pot want to do that do not use that option

  • I lost all my photos when I upgraded from Iphoto to Photos

I lost all my photos when I upgrade from Iphoto to photos, can I get back? please help

You need to provide more details about what happened.  But, here is something you can check.
When you run Photo and it converts your library, it doesn't delete the iPhoto library.  Look in your Pictures folder - you should see two libraries:
iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary (this is the original iPhoto library)
Photos Library.photoslibrary (this is the new Photos library)
You should still be able to open the original iPhoto library.  The iPhoto application was not deleted from your computer.  (It was probably removed from your Dock if you had an icon there.)  Look in the Applications folder, find iPhoto, and run it.  It should show your original library with all your original images.
It is always a good idea to back up your photos (and the iPhoto library) before trying these migrations.  Problems do occur...
    Hope this helps.

  • What file size is used for when uploading to MobileMe from Aperture?

When I upload my photo files from Aperture (and previously from iPhoto) I routinely use the upload setting named "dowloading of optimized" files.  I know that this downsizes the files for faster upload/download, but still gives a file size acceptable for great onscreen presentation and for a resulting small print of someone downloads.  Can anyone tell what downsizing Aperture does in this case?  For example, 50% jpeg, email sized jpeg, etc.  Since Apple will kill the MobileMe galleries in June I have to switch to another photo presentation host.  For upload to such a host Aperture gives choices like 100% jpeg, 50% jpeg, etc.  What I want to do is end up with something similar to what I now get with the "optimized" setting.  Thank you.

You will note that I referenced both programs (iPhoto & Aperture) in my original message above, and I have posted in both forums.  Since both programs offer the same (at least on the surface) option of "optimized" to MobileMe galleries, one might assume that both use the same or a similar system.  Lengthly testing of my own is the "best" solution only if I can not find anyone who is knowledgeable about what these programs do in the upload.  It has been my sincere joy over many many years that I often find people on these forums who possess knowledge much greater than I.  As to the programs changing the algorithum at any time, I doubt that since this MobileMe function will disappear in June.  Seems like a strange time to make changes.

  • When synching Contacts from GMail, some of them are missing the telephone number

I synced my contacts from my GMail account to my iPhone through Microsoft Exchange. All the contacts succesfully appeared in the iPhone, BUT most of them are missing their phone number. I already waited for the sync to end, they just won't appear.

I have same problem. I could only see a fraction of my project photos if I browse the Aperture lbrary. It is the same problem when I sync the aperture photos to my iPhone or iPad. I still cannot solve it but I know a way to go around it for your iMovie to see the pictures so that you can work on your iMovie.
    Here is the work around:
Export the photos from your album to your hard disk and re-import into your iPhoto. Now you should be able to see those photos that you want to work on in iMovie when you browse your iPhot library.

  • Will I loose all my files and photos when I upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow leopard

I have purchased Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the Mac store and I am ready to install it. Will I loose all my files and photos when I install it ?  I am upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3 Snow leopard.

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.

  • Syncing photos to iPod Touch from Aperture

I have a Touch on which I would like to sync some photos from Aperture through iTunes. ITunes sees my albums in Aperture, but it only sees one photo out of many. I am certain I am doing something incorrectly, but just don't have any ideas on what that might be. I am not sure if this is an iTunes issue or an Aperture issue. I have all the latest updates, and am using Aperture 2. Any ideas, anyone?

i deleted the ipod photo cache on my computer and it synced my photos

  • Photos in FCE; export from Aperture in target size?

    hi all.
I'm planning to place photos from Aperture into my FCE project, with the photos fading from one to the next. they won't be full screen, less than half. to get the best final quality, do I need to sharpen and export from Aperture so that the photos are placed within the FCE project at 100% without scaling?
    cheers,
    Gregory

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • When switching away from a particular web site, the audio often continues.

When switching away from an eagle cam web site, the audio often continues after leaving the site or will stop then restart later.
Only happens from this one web site but occurs on two different computers using Firefox browser but not others. This seemed to start with Firefox 10 and continues with FF 11. I have watched this particular web site off and on for a year and never had this experience with the audio restarting after leaving the site.
This is the only site I have found where this happens and it happens only with FF, not IE or Chrome. I also learned that a friend has the same problem on the same site on her computer.
Any help resolving this is appreciated.

Sounds like a problem with the plugin-container process that doesn't stop properly and keeps playing the sound.

  • Blurry photos on Everpix (syncing from Aperture)

I'm trying to sync pictures from my Aperture library to everpix.com using their Mac Uploader.  However, no matter what I do, every single picture I upload is fuzzy when viewed within the everpix.com website.  You can see a screenshot of a duck from the website (right), overlayed with the jpg that was synced with the Mac Uploader (left).  The website image is so much fuzzier than the original image that I can't believe anyone isn't complaining about this - I must be doing something wrong.
Every single picture I've uploaded looks like this.  I thought maybe it was something wonky with the fact that I was viewing this on a Retina MacBook Pro, but I tried it on my wife's non-retina MacBook and I can still see a difference.  If I download the picture to my computer and view it in preview, it's as tac sharp as the original.  If I sync my Aperture library with another service like Loom or SmugMug, I do not have this problem - the photos on the website look like they do in preview.
There are no everpix forums or discussion board, so I emailed everpix and got this response:  "If you want to compare photo quality, you need to compare with a downloaded full-resolution photo from Everpix (that's of course assuming you synced full-resolution photos to Everpix in the first place)."
I find this hard to believe - I know they have their own image optimization (https://support.everpix.com/entries/23231607) but it shouldn't make all of my photos look blurry and out of focus.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
    Thanks!

Photos added to a shared stream will be a lower resolution than the originals in your camera roll but they shouldn't be blurry.  If they are, you could try again later to see if it's a server problem.  Otherwise, to get the originals from your computer in your camera roll you'll either have to email them to your self, then save them to your camera roll or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to over your wifi.

  • When I updated from aperture 2 to aperture 3 it created second library

in my photos folder know I have an aperture library file, and an aperture library-original, my question is because the files are big, the aperture library is 27 gigs, and the aperture library original is 17 gigs, it seems to me that the original is a duplicate, can i erase it, or do i need it?

Are you the only user of the machine? Are there other users using your account? How long ago did you upgrade from 2 to 3? I'm not aware of Aperture creating a backup of the library when you upgrade which is why one of the steps recommended is to make a backup before staring the library upgrade.
Is the library really name -original and not (original) ? (original) would indicate a TM restore of the library where both the current library and TM version of the library were kept. Whats the modified dates on the two libraries? Is one much older than the other?
Given the information there is no way for anyone on this list to tell you that you can delete the library. You will need to figure out how the library came into being and decide if there is anything of value in it that needs saving.

  • Caption not shown when importing images from Aperture

    I have iWeb '08 and Aperture 2.1.2.
I can see all the photos inside Aperture through iWeb's media browser, which is good. However, when I drag a photo from the browser onto a "photo" page (or drag an entire album onto an "album" page) the only thing displayed under the photograph is the file name. No caption is displayed.
What do I need to do so the caption is displayed? I don't want to re-type the caption in iWeb.
Also, is it possible for iWeb to display further metadata from the photograph (such as "credit" to show the author of the photograph).
    Thanks for the help,
    Julian

    The script is as follows:
    try
    tell application "iPhoto"
    activate
    copy (my selected_images()) to these_images
if these_images is false then error "Please select the images to include in the summary."
set the image_count to the count of these_images
repeat with i from 1 to the image_count
    set this_photo to item i of these_images
    tell this_photo
set the title to the comment
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell
    on error error_message number error_number
    tell application "iPhoto"
    activate
if the error_number is not -128 then
display dialog error_message buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    end if
    end tell
    end try
    on selected_images()
    tell application "iPhoto"
    try
    -- get selection
    set these_items to the selection
-- check for single album selected
if the class of item 1 of these_items is album then error
-- return the list of selected photos
    return these_items
    on error
    return false
    end try
    end tell
    end selected_images
I got it from MacOSXHints: AppleScript to copy iPhoto Description to Title
When you're done (at least for iPhoto) you can use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name to restore the file names in iPhoto.
