Array showing up twice in Disk Utility.

I have an odd problem.
We have a XServ RAID (XSR) that had two 4 disk arrays(raid5, one on each controller (Disk 1-4 on controller 1, and disk 8-11 on controller 2) Working great for almost 2 years. Last week we filled out our XSR with 6 more drives (3 on each controller) When I create 2 new arrays (one 3 disk RAID 5 comprising disk 5-7 on controller 1 and one 3 disk RAID 5 comprising disk 12-14 on controller 2) they show up twice in Disk Utility. I see the 2 701GB arrays that have been working fine for 2 years, each one shows up once. The 2 new 476GB arrays are showing up twice (2 times each for each array for a total of 4 476GB arrays). This shows up in disk utility on any computer connected to the fibre switch, and only the new arrays are duplicated so it isn't a zoning issue with the switch.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I ran into Doug Cunningham at the DV Expo and he said to use the "Repair Lun Map" in RAID Admin... Worked!!!
Thanks!

I have tried a disk verify and repair - sometimes that works and completes, sometimes it doesn't.
Either way, it wont eject or mount, and still doesn't show up on desktop.
There are no ticking noises coming from the hard drive, and it lights up still, and i have tried replacing the cords, and restarting/shutting down the computer, and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
    Any help would be great!!!

and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
Try this on one of the Macs ...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Finder > Preferrences
Select the General tab then select:  Show External Disks

  • 1 TB External WD Drive Not Showing Up In Finder/Disk Utility/Terminal

    Hey everyone,
First time posting here so forgive any mistakes. I recently purchased a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 from Apple. Previously, I had the late 2007 Macbook Pro model until a friend spilled some water on it and corrupted the motherboard. Regardless, I was using a Western Digital 1 TB external hard-drive to keep all my documents and files backed up, manually, alongside the time machine feature built in. (This was not connected at the time of the spill, and was not thereafter, so rule out water damage) During the period between when the old one died, (earlier this year May-2013), I kept the drive safely in storage because I knew I would want to transfer my 100gb music librairy along with my photos and other files when I finally got the new one later that year (was waiting for the hardwell processors to come out for the MBP). Just recently after this purchase I tried to connect the drive to my new MacBook Pro but it was not showing up. I have scowered the online forums for trouble shooting tips and took all the steps to no avail. I have replaced the data-drive cable with a new one, connected it to the wall outlet in case it wasn't drawing enough power from the laptop, among a few other simple tricks, but still it would not show up in either Disk Utility or the terminal command to show all active drives, all that's there is the internal Macintosh HD one. It was a fairly quiet drive-however I do notice there is not much of a 'spin-up' noise or any sound of it begining to work when turned on or plugged in, so I'm worried there might be something wrong with the drive itself. Nonetheless, the power signal continues to flash but still no recognition from the computer that it's there, so I'm certain it's not reading it. I have tried on my other buddys Mac and it is the same situation, as well as my roommates PC (which I figured wouldnt anyway because of how its formatted, but it was worth a shot) I am not sure which avenue to take next as I have all my files and college work that I still need access to on the drive, and would really hate to have to format the drive or anything drastic as such. Possibly there is a part I can buy and replace myself to make it start up and spin again, but I am not sure what that part could be or if there is an easier solution out there.
I would greatly appreciate any information or help on this problem, thank you all for the time and advie.

Clicking from a hard drive is bad.  Does the external drive have an external power supply?  If it does I would use this supply.

  • External hard drive not showing in finder or disk utility

1TB WD external hard drive is not showing in finder sidebar, destop, or disk utility. I have checked and all the preferences are ticked. The disk itself is showing a light and making a whirring sound during start up after being plugged into the power.

Three different external drives, on 2 different MacBook Pros (different ages).  One drive with internal power, 2 through USB.  Also have a new Solid State External Drive and it does work.  The were all working before upgrade to Yosemite.
    Have tried multiple USB Cords

  • WD Elements not showing up anywhere but Disk Utility

Ok so I got my MacBook Air and WD Elements External HD for Christmas 2013. I have been using both nearly everyday since then and they've been working perfectly, no faults. Except this morning, when I plugged in my HD, I found that I couldn't access it at all, but it showed up in Disk Utility. I really need to get this problem fixed, with out losing any of my files. This HD has all of my files on it, including all of my photos. It is 1 TB. Thank you.

First, just to make sure, Go to file at the top of the desktop under file/ preferences/ and see if show disks are still checked.  If so run disk utilities if you haven't already done so, repair the disk and the preferences. See if that helps.

  • External drive does not show up in finder/ disk utility not able to repair

    Hello,
My external drive does not show up in finder. But it appaers in DISK UTILITY. When I tried to repair it, it said:
Verify and Repair volume “ANNE HD”
    ** /dev/disk1s1 (NO WRITE)
    ** Phase 1 - Preparing FAT
    ** Phase 2 - Checking Directories
Unable to read directory (Input/output error)
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
How can I back up files if the external drive is not found in FINDER? I tried to restore with disk utility, but it doesn't seem to be able to select the hard drive.
    Can you please help me?

    Thanks a lot Niel,
Diskwarrior is a program for what you need to buy a DVD. I live in Brazil I have no idea where to buy it. Or can you download it?

  • 128GB sd card showing as 1gb in disk utility, when it shows at all

I have 10.8.2 on a 2011 mac air. i have a lexar professional 128gb 400x sdxc card which is full of stuff that I generally read (don't write much to the card when it's in) - big videos, big photos, by design & icon library, etc.
this morning at home I put some files on it, and closed the lid of the mac, then carried it to work. opening the lid and the device no longer shows. i had a system lock due to an app that does it regularly, so I power-buttoned it.
the device took 5-10 insertions to get it to even recognise that a card had been inserted. Disk Utility now sees the disk as an unformatted 1GB memory card, whereas it is in fact a 128 GB single partitioned MacOS formatted volume.
i don't have another mac to try this on, nor do I have another sdXc card, is there any debugging steps I should take to determine if it's the reader or the 2 month old card?
also, if it's fritzed, what is the best rescue utility for me to try?

I had tried a few different utilities under different conditions to see what was going on. These, in particular:
On Mac, I tried disk utility (of course), disk drill, lexar image recover 4, and the command line partition editor
I looked at it with partition editors on XP and Windows 7 on a new PC
I looked at it with partition editors and recovery tools on Ubuntu on a laptop with SDXC card support
Basically the unit seemed to just be wrong. And then I found a forum (no longer know the link) that mentioned that when the partition map of a sdXc card is messed up, you're pretty much out of luck with it. I think this is what happened. Eventually I managed to convince the memory company I got it from to give me a replacement under warranty, and the replacement had been so-far-so-good.
I lost everything on it, after trying for weeks to recover it.
Warranty might be your best option, I'm afriad.

  • New WD HD isn't showing up in Installer Disk Utility?

I've checked the connections numerous time and everything is properly installed. I inserted the installer cd that came with my laptop and the HD doesn't appear in disk utility so there is no way for me to format it. The only thing that does pop up however is the DVD drive and CD. I also checked profiler in utilities and it doesn't appear either. I have no idea what to do at this point.. I've read many other forums but nothing helped.
    (Mid 2009 2.26ghz MPB)

Recently there have been a number of people having great problems with some of the WD hard drives and Macs...a lot of compatibility issues and non-recognized issues.
Did you order this drive from an on-line source or a retail supplier?  Best advice would be to see if you can return it and get another brand that is more Mac-compatible.  You can check sites that are Mac-friendly such as OWC to see what brands are sold to get some ideas of those that will work readily.

  • My Bootcamp partition will not boot. It won't mount either. It shows up grey in Disk Utility and cannot be mounted or restored.

It appears some sort of hybrid GPT MBR error. It was the resut of of partition editing.  I have programs installed that were liscensed through a robotics program. I would not like to format it. I would like to atleast be able to mount it, and hopefuly boot it.
I looked at this but don't quite understand it.
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/59118/how-can-i-mount-partition-disk0s4 -that-became-inaccessible-after-a-clean-install

    Hello bechardj,
I would use the disk utility to verify and/or if needed repair the partition to help troubleshoot the issue
From the help menu item: https://help.apple.com/diskutility/mac/10.8/help/index.html
You can check a disk for problems without repairing it. If you used the disk to start up your Mac, verifying means that you don’t need to restart your computer unless you need to repair your disk.
As Disk Utility checks a disk for problems, your computer may become slow or unresponsive.
    Open Disk Utility from Applications.
Select a disk or partition and then click First Aid.If you run First Aid on a disk, Disk Utility checks the partition maps on the disk and performs some additional diskwide checks. If you run First Aid on a partition, Disk Utility verifies the all the contents of that partition.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk or partition is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Verify Disk. If Disk Utility reports that it appears to be OK, you’re done. Otherwise, you need to repair it Repair a disk.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • My external HD is not showing up on finder, disk utility or system information.... Hd is working fine on windows computer so there is nothing wrong with it...Help!

Mac is showing up other external hard disks....but not my seagate one

  • How do I access an external hard drive that shows up in Disk Utility but will not show up in finder or on my desktop?

I have an external hard drive that just stopped showing up one day. Is there a solution to this problem that allows me to secure the data on the drive before reformatting?

I'm having the same problem bpay14, but with a CalDigit VR2 6TB RAID0 external hard drive.
One day it was showing on my desktop, the other it wasn't. And I still didn't update my Mavericks to 10.9.3 (still with the 10.9.2).
It shows up in the disk utility, and I can even Verify the disk and Repair it (but I don't wanna start repairing
something that probably doesn't need to be repaired, so I haven't clicked the Repaid button, only the Verify button) and it says its working just fine.
But it doesn't show in the Finder or the desktop for that matter.
And even if I force disconnect the cable, I get the usual "this disk was not ejected properly" notification
presumingly the disk was mounted on the desktop and I forced eject by unppluging it...
I found a way to force open the disk, through Disk Utility that's by clicking with the right mouse button
on the disk icon, and chosing OPEN "CalDigit AFRICA 6TB"... (see picture 1)
But... after that, it open a Finder window showing all my internal and external drives, but that drive's
name is in washed grey, like if it was unmounted (see picture 2).
When selected, I can see everything and work normally on the harddrive, even opening FCPROX projects or Libraries, copying from it and writing documents into it... just normal... (see picture 3)
BUT IT DOES NOT SHOW IN THE DESKTOP...
    that's my problem...
I even did a Command+i for Info on the hard drive. (see picture 4)
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
    I would be eternally grateful!
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Cheers!

  • My Macbook Pro mid 2012 is not reading/connecting to my (working)external hard disk(also not showing in disk utility)

I connected my 500GB Storjet external hard drive to my mac(Mountain Lion) http://in.transcend-info.com/products/Catlist.asp?modno=325 but it is not connecting to it. Disk Utility is also not showing it. and the hard disk is working... My PS3, My Sony TV and my other laptop(win7) is detecting it... Also whenever it gets connected a blue light blinks, but It doesnt for mac. I have tried reformatting to both FAT32 and NTFS... Please help..
Also I sorta screwed my Mac so I had to do the internet recovery thing and only after that such problems occured, it was working fine before. So it installed Lion first and then Mountain Lion. It wasn't working on any of the OS.

Power down the Mac, Full power off. Connect the drive using the Y cable and then turn the Mac back on.
If it still doesn't show in at least Disk Utility then start checking your USB ports to see if both are working properly. Just plug in a USB thumb drive and that should show in both Finder and Disk Utility. If one of the ports isn't seeing the thumb drive then that port is bad and the system needs to be services by Apple.

  • Dvd doesn't show in disk utility

I inserted a dvd into the optical drive of my Pro and it will show up on the desktop and will play in iDVD but will not show up in the Disk Utility. Any suggestions as to what's going on?
I figured it out...Disk Utility just needed to be closed and reopened and the disk had to be ejected and re-insterted, just a simply fix:)

    Thanks for replying, xnav.
Unfortunately I have tried these with no luck. The disk does not show up in disk utility, it's like it doesn't even exist, yet it remains there in the drive making it impossible to insert any disk.
I don't know what to do at this point... take it to the shop I guess!

  • Disk Utility shows incorrect free disk space after erasing hard disk

    Hello.
A few days ago, I tried to re-install my Mac OS and both Snow Leopard and Lion got the same problem. Before the re-installation, I erased the hard disk of my MacBook (late 2009) and the SSD of my MacBook Air (late 2010) - but after erasing the disks, the disk utility continued to show more or less 5 GB of used disk capacity, although the disks should have been cleared entirely I think.
After installing Snow Leopard or Lion, Finder showed as much free space as I usually expected it would, but Disk Utility still stated 5-10 GB less. For example:
MacBook: Finder shows 17 GB free, Disk Utility 6 GB free
MacBook Air: Finder shows 26 GB free, Disk Utility 19 GB free
    There are 2 problems:
    1) I need the original disk capacity. Think everybody agrees with that wish.
    2) More important: The MacBook should still get a Bootcamp partition (unfortunately, that's necessary for my university's software.. :s): With 17 GB free space, it would work - but 6 GB doesn't.
I would be very pleased if somebody could help me. I searched the web many times so far but didn't find any real solution.

The available disk space reported in finder is totally wrong.
Even if it accounts for the local snapshots. In my macbook air it shows 120 Available in finder which is just 1GB less than my SSD capacity.
