Arrow Key Keeps Popping Off

Hello, recently my right arrow key on my Macbook popped off while typing. I tried to just snap it back in, which seemed to work, but whenever I touch the right half of the key it comes back off again. Any suggestions before taking it to Apple?

No suggestions other than to take it to the local Apple Store. I had a similar problem when I first got my MacBook, and the Genius replaced my key from a pile of them "in the back." Took about 8 seconds. Good luck!

    Hi:
This website has videos on how to reattach keys.
If you put the full model number in the site, you will find the video for your key type.
    1200dx isn't enough info.

  • Mid 2011 macbook air. command key has popped off and is now missing the 2nd metal bar. can this be replaced?

The command key popped off my mid 2011 macbook air. It is meant to have two metal bars but can't find the 2nd one. I have clicked it back into place but if I press the button at the bottom the top pops up and I'm worried that if I don't fix the problem I may end up losing the key altogether!
Can you buy replacement metal bars? should I just remove the other bar completely?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, must have been the crackpipe I smoked last night! LOL
You won't see anything in the Application Support --> Bootcamp folder unless you have previously downloaded the Windows Support Software. Good find.
    ADDENDUM STEP:
This step should be placed between 9-10.
Open Bootcamp Assistant. Uncheck everything BUT, "DOWNLOAD THE LATEST WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE FROM APPLE". You will be prompted to burn the image to a CD/DVD or save to a USB Key. Save the image to a USB key. This will format your USB key properly in preparation for the files. The download commences and if you're lucky, the files will simply be saved to your USB key without having to manually copy them over to the key using the steps above.
IMPORTANT - Even if the support software hangs when its being saved to the USB key, you should now be able to navigate to the directory and see the image. Follow the steps above.
    Apologies for missing this.
    Best,

  • HT2589 One of the songs I purchased and down loaded will not play. The arrow/cursor keeps jumping off

I have a song purchased/downloaded, but the arrow keeps jumping off and it will not play

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Mac keeps *popping* off...

    Hi,
Do the apple power bricks have some sort of thermal cut out in them? Is it especially sensitive?
I have a Mac Mini that keeps turning itself off with a loud pop that sounds like it's coming from down near the plug somewhere.
I then cannot power it back up unless I remove the plug from the wall & then wait a few seconds before pluggin it back in.
My Mac is the only appliance that's effected & I've tried several different outlets so I'm assuming its power surges that's causing them. Bought an APC powersurge protector but it's still 'popping' off.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Suzie
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I've run my original mini 24/7 for 13 months sitting on a desktop and had no heating effects whatsoever and I somehow doubt that Apple would have designed the unit to require additional ventilation by placing non-standard feet on it. Indeed, looking at the technical manual for the unit, it's apparent that the design is intended to transfer heat from the internal components to the base, in which case a solid surface that is a moderately efficient heat conductor in close proximity to the base plate would actually improve cooling rather than inhibit it. Probably rather marginal either way if in a well ventilated area to begin with. One suspects that that, and ambient environmental temperature are the critical elements!
It also has to be said that if heat issues were to reach a point that a logic board failure were induced, the mini should already have automatically shut itself off since that is what it is designed to do. Where that behaviour is experienced, it's common to find the mini can't be coaxed back into life for maybe 15+ minutes until it has then cooled sufficiently again.
There have been minis with heating problems though - often caused by incorrectly fitted CPU heatsinks either out of the factory or as a result of owners taking the system apart. I've also seen reports that have suggested that the 'heat pad' used to sink heat away from the CPU and onto the base plate had been omitted during construction, or following service, and that this has caused heating problems subsequently. There's not been any great volume of such reports here though.
I'm always interested in these experiences of faulty logic boards however because as much as it's a sad fact that there are always some faulty units that get into the supply chain, it's almost as if logic boards either never fail (as in my own experience with many Macs over the years) or regularly fail for some users. I think there's a certain amount of truth in the possibility that power supply or environmental issues might play a part in that for some, but clearly that's not so in all instances.
What is inevitably true though is that in a design where the logic board carries almost every single component of the system, pretty much any failure that is not directly related to a peripheral device like the optical or hard drive is going to involve a logic board replacement. A very narrow category of replacement component for a wide variety of faults!

  • Sticky Keys keeps turning off after every restart

the Sticky Keys option in the universal access prefs pane keeps turning off after every restart. how can i fix this?

It seems to be a common problem in the OS that when you restarts some of the settings get reset. For me it happens with the screeen dimming before sleep and the double click using 2 fingers and maybe others that I don't know about. I am hoping that its fixed in 10.4.7 which should be out within a week or so.

  • My "n" key keeps falling off!

Actually, its not THAT big of a deal. i would just appreciate that having just spent 1500 on a new computer that it wouldnt have to come with such a problem.
but yeah, it keeps falling off. is this covered?
other than that, i love it. its my first mac, and everything that has been said about the quality is absolutely true.

Don't settle for anything less than the best. You have the best computer out there (in my opinion), and you shouldn't settle until you're happy. The Geniuses are very nice people, and if you bring your computer in and tell them what's up, they'll help you out.
I know that with the iBook, the keyboard is a customer replaceable part, but I don't believe it is with the PowerBook.
    Anyway, good luck.

  • Help with a key that popped off!

Hi! I was wondering if someone could help me. My dog jumped up on my lap and ripped my apple key off. How do you get these back in?? It is the apple key to the left of the space bar. Thanks!

Look at the underneath side of the key. Are all the little prongs intact and not bent out of position? If they are bent or broken, you will need to buy a new key.
You need to put the little ring back in first. (If you already have it in, you need to grab hold of the outside top and bottom and pull them up like pulling up an ironing board. Go on to the next paragraph about attaching the key.) If you don't already have the ring in, you pull it open like you would an ironing board. The front of the circle part should be down, and the outside frame on the front should come up. Take the two tabs that are now down in the back and hook them under the two metal pieces at the back of the hole on the keyboard. Take the flat front part of the circle part that is down and hook it under the metal tab on the keyboard at the front of the hole.
Next, snap the the key onto the ring part, attaching the front of the key first. Then rock it back and snap on the back part of the key. Pushing in the center of the key, push downward firmly to reseat the key.
Refer to the photos in this Knowledge Base article as you go, but, hopefully, this will help you understand the photos a little better.
    Good luck!

  • My plastic lcd screen keeps popping off and I wonder if it is covered under 1 year warranty.

I have a Macbook Pro that is less than a year old. I noticed that the screen kept coming off in the corner and now when I open it, sometimes the bottom corners come all the way off. I tried to press the screen all around, but the adhesive seems to be failing. Is this covered under warranty?
    Thank you,
    Tara

Ask the Genius Bar.  But I would suspect that unless there is some evidence of "pry marks" on the case, it will be judged "maufacturing defect" and be covered.

  • How to change the presets in pop-up menus (CS6 or CR 7, example Photo Filter) with arrow keys?

How to change the presets in pop-up menus (CS6 or CR 7, example Photo Filter) with arrow keys an see at the same time the changes on the photo?
It worked under Windows, now I use OS 10.8 and have to apply a preset with a click or Return button but after that the pop-up menu close so I have to open it once again to change a preset. Please help. Thank you!

The filter panel is a shortcut for the content panel and it only effects the content of that window. So if you have a folder it will only see this as a folder and not with its content. (a Stack behaves about the same, being different in only counting the first file in the filter panel criteria but not what is in the stack itself)
You have a view work arounds, first is use menu view / show items from subfolders (this can take some time especially if you have not used caching before on this content) and this builds visible thumbs for all content and that can be used for filtering.
Or use the find command (Edit / find) and inhere specify the source and fill in the criteria include subfolders and this will give you the correct result.
When you create a smart collection the find command also pops up given you the same opportunity to get the results in a collection, but since a collection is only a bunch of aliases referring to the originals you might be a bit careful with editing and deleting.
