Arrow keys force "commit" of Transform

I'm dragging some large images into a FW document and then transforming them (Command-T) to a smaller size. When I get them close to final size I nudge them around to make sure they're really the size I want - but as soon as I tap an arrow key the Transform control handles go away and I'm no longer in "transform" mode.
I assume this means that FW resamples the image pixels at that point - and so any further transforming counts as a second transformation (with further pixel degradation).
Why would using the arrows cause the Transform to "commit" like this? Photoshop doesn't do it...
Just another CS 4 inconsistency I guess (sigh)...

Thanks for the link. I'm still gonna gripe here - bit less of a black hole, plus more chance of stirring up a mob, pitchforks, torches, etc.
I'm getting the feeling FW is a bit more solid on the PC. Wonder if it started life there?
It's interesting - I was talking to my wife about UI "feel" in various programs. We're all Mac so can't speak to the PC side, but Photoshop on the Mac just responds like it's reading your mind. FW does not - frequently misses clicks, doesn't select "intuitively", things drag funny or not where you want them to, etc. Flash too, maybe a little less so. Illustrator is picky too to some extent. InDesign as well. They all feel different and none as smooth as Photoshop.
We both miss Freehand. Interesting since it was also a Macromedia app (and other apps like FW or Flash don't seem to "feel" as smooth), but like Photoshop it seemed to have a well tuned UI as far as selecting and manipulating things. Illustrator feels a bit more "professional" as an app but not as slick in UI responsiveness.
Fireworks is this weird app that I want to like, and I think I DO like it, except that it has all these parts that just don't work like they "should" (i.e. like the user expects/intuits them to). Kind of like an old British motorcycle. I'm forcing myself to use it instead of my previous Photoshop/Imageready workflow, and I must say it's nice to stay in one app to work. Still takes me twice as long to do anything but guess that's learning curve.

  • Keys will not work; comma key and and arrow keys..

What can I do to make my arrow keys and comma keys work? I can not find any valuable material to help me with this.
Any help will be much appreciated---Rossman

Keyboard problems of this kind often occur because of liquid spills and the like , Rossman18. Any other people who have used this computer with a glass in their hand, or passing incontinent cats or mice? MBPs have liquid detection sensors built in, so Apple should be able to tell you if you aren't aware of such events yourself.
Look, I know I'm being a bit cheeky and dismissive in the above, but assuming you are still under warranty and the problem wasn't caused by a liquid spill or other such physical damage, then just take it to Apple and get them to fix it for free. The hardware warranty last twelve months. We are all busy, but if the problem has been around for that long, and you still haven't had time to get it fixed, you can't need to use a comma or an arrow key very often!

  • Bridge CC crashes while using arrow keys to switch images

Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Adobe Bridge 2014 on Mac is crashing every time I press an arrow key to move through images in bridge. I can click to manually select images with no problem, but using the up/down arrow keys to move to the next image up/down brings up the spinning beach ball and immediately locks the program up, requiring a force quit.
Did the usual Mac permissions and fsck stuff to no avail. Ideas?
    Dan

Thanks for moving my post to this correct forum. (I'm afraid I missed it when I originally posted.) A bit more information based on attempts to fix and on further attempts to use the program.
After launching Bridge — before I select any specific image — it initially seems to work correctly. For example, I can use menu items and select and open folders. However...
Once I drill down through folders to show raw files in the browser the problems begin. I can manually select an image by clicking on it, but the program the locks up if I do things such as attempt to navigate to another image using the up/down keyboard arrows or select anything from a menu that would perform an action on the image. (The problem happens with any image selected — not one particular image, and with images that worked fine until 48 hours ago.)
ACR still works. I can double click an image and open the raw converter, and I can doubly click a smart object image in Photoshop do go back to the raw editor and it allows me to edit.
I did the step of holding down command-option-shift at Bridge startup and selecting all three options to delete the cache and so forth. Still no joy.
I did the usual Mac disk/file system repair stuff — repairing permissions and repairing disk — to no avail.
I downloaded and reinstalled Bridge but the problem persists.
Since I have a full backup of the drive on which Bridge is installed and since this backup drive is bootable, I double clicked the copy of Bridge on the backup drive... and it opened (slowly!) but worked correctly. (Not that this means much, but my second instance on my laptop continues to run fine.)
I'm stuck, in a serious way, at this point. Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • I used to be able to skip a cell to the right by using the toggle arrow keys

I placing a number or text in a cell i used to be able to skip the cell to the right by using the toggle arrow keys.  I can't now?  Using the RETURN key only goes down a cell.  I want to go right?  Why?

    Hi Mark,
In Numbers 3, an arrow key moves the cursor one cell up, down, left or right.
Tab moves one cell right. Shift tab moves one cell left.
The command key and an arrow key will take the cursor to top, bottom, left or right of a table.
via the arrow keys (next to the letterM and question mark?).
I am puzzled by this. Between the letter M and ? I have < above comma (,) and > above full stop (.)
Shift command < zooms out and shift command > zooms in.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Arrow keys spark random 5-10 minute keyboard glitch

Some combination of the arrow keys will acuse the following errors will pop uptogether, then in about 5-10 minutes they vanish:
-Everything I type will be in caps, even though caps lock is off,
    - both my USB and touchpad mouses will open new browser windows when I right-click on tabs,
    - my mouse will highlight and not stop highlighting,
-I can't switch to other windows using the minimized tabs on the taskbar, they just bring up new windows (be it browser or other programs)
-The mouse wheel will send me through my broswer history rather than scroll down or up.
-Macros don't do as expected. Example: Shift+A takes me to firefox's addons rather than highlight everything on the page.
    - clicking on bookmarks in firefox will open the website in a new window rather than in the same tab.
This error I get quite frequently:  Random semicolons followed by a random number will appear when I navigate a document with the arrow keys. This usually preceeds the following errors above.
Its a new HP Probook 450 G1, and I've had plenty of programs scanning my system for viruses and malware. I've even reset windows and the problems persist. HP phone support did not help me. What's the deal?
While writing this complain those same errors occured and navigated me away from this page, forcing me to write it again.
I'll post this over and over until I get a reponse and a repair suggestion if I have to.

SO I ended up getting in contact with a rep. who noticed that I had restarted windows and some things had not been activated. He got them updated and told me to get rid of AVG, and some other antimalware stuff because 'they weren't needed.'
I only got them in the first place because I suspected this issue to be viral in nature. We decided to see if these changes altered my situation.
Answer: Things have gotten worse. Semicolons appear much more commonly when I use the arrow keys in documents, and its the arrow keys that somehow lock the keyboard into a state where it thinks I'm holding down the shift key.
These errors have nothing to do with me using the shift key, although repeatedly pressing it does reset the semi-perement shift key issue.
And no, nothing has ever been spilled in/on the keyboard.

  • My right arrow key isnt working.

My right arrow key is not working. Well, I mean I can press on it and it will move sometime but I have to use a lot of force to make it move. Is something stuck under there (can I get it out by myself?) or do I need to go into the apple store??
    Thanks

Your appointment at the genius Bar at an Apple store is FREE, in warranty or out. If they can fix the problem in a few minutes without installing parts, they will. Otherwise, they can provide a quote for repair.
Those guys put their hands on these computers all day every day. They are especially good at physical problems like this.
You are under no obligation to have them do any needed work. Apple wants you to be a happy customer, if possible.

  • Why am I recently unable to use my mouse to scroll email topics or content?  I can only use the up and down arrows keys to scroll.

Why am I recently unable to use my mouse to scroll email topics or content?  I can only use the up and down arrows keys to scroll. I am able to use my mouse to scroll through internet searches.  It only seems to have affected my email messages.

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Tiger & Safari 2.0 - Can't Use Arrow Keys in Password Fields

Since installing Tiger and using the new Safari 2.0, password fields in online forms are not allowing the use of arrow keys. I can't go back one character or to the beginning of the •••••••• typed in the password field. In fact I can't even use the mouse to click anywhere other than the end of this field. It's forcing me to type it straight through, which is not how I type or re-type passwords (* See Example Below). I need to be able go back and edit sometimes, and the arrow keys helped in previous versions, but not now. All form text fields should allow the use of the arrow keys and the mouse to change the cursor's insertion point. Internet Explorer does not do this. But to my dismay the Mac OS X Login Window does! So maybe this is part of the OS rather than just Safari. I hope Apple is listening and fixes this issue in future versions of Safari & Tiger
    * Example of how to make secure passwords via the Arrow Keys:
Take two or three easy to remember words or numbers. For example I'll use "steve" "jobs" and the date Apple Computer was formed 4/1/1976 or "4176" for our purposes here. First you type in the first word...
    steve
Second you move the cursor with the arrow keys (which you can't do in Safari 2.0) to the beginning using the up-arrow, then alternate typing the second word "jobs" with a right-arrow key interspersed between each letter. So you would then type "j right-arrow o right-arrow b right-arrow s", which combined with what we already typed in step one should look like this...
    jsotbesve
Things are looking secure, no one would think of typing that. But we'll go to a third step and just repeat what we did before adding "4176" to the mix, which would then look like this...
    4j1s7o6tbesve
No one or thing would guess that password. but it's so easy to remember with the help of Arrow Keys. Now this is just one method. You could use the left-arrow key to go backwards with it, using two left-arrow key clicks...
    stsebv6o7e1j4
    maybe use 1, 2, and 3 right-arrow clicks...
    4j1so7teb6ves
Simple, easy to remember words or numbers made into secure unguessable passwords with the simple help of the Arrow Keys. Please Apple, make them usable in the password fields again.

    Still looking for help here.
And now in addition the above-listed issue, this browser has bogged down and is loading pages so slowly it just grinds to a halt.
At this point, I'd settle for instructions on how to fully uninstall Safari and re-install it and start over. This is flat unacceptable, and at this point I'm wondering why in the world I elected to pay for Tiger, only to be "blessed" with this disaster.
Please don't tell me to go back and reinstall the entire operating system. Not unless Apple would like a bill for the hours of my time it will take to do that, re-port all my files and re-install all my other software.

  • Arrow key wrapping---PLEASE!

The #1 hing I HATE about JDeveloper's text editor is its stunning inconsistency with virtually ALL modern text editor interfaces wrt the Arrow Keys.
Left arrow at the beginning of a line should wrap to the end of the prior line, and right arrow at the end of a line should wrap to the beginning of the next line! And when using up or down arrows there should be "memory" of where the last user-specified horizontal position (column) was...JDeveloper pinches it to the end of whatever line gets traversed.
And I'm not talking about the BIZZARRE cursor past EOL option. Is there a hidden option that forces JDeveloper to behave like any normal text editor on Windows does?

    heheh..
That's the #1 thing? How about doing a cut using ctrl-C... and having JDev cut text from a location in your source not visible on the screen...without you knowing about it...randomly... in addition to the source you are actually cutting? ( 3.1, and yes.. there were actually lines between what I wanted to cut and what JDev additionally cut that were just fine! )
I've had to restore source from my backups several times as JDev "lost" sections of source I wasn't even working near.
Or for that matter.. the problem of simply typing text... and having it "pause" while it enters the text you are typing to some other location off screen no where NEAR your cursor? ( The only way I find out about this is when I compile and it errors out at some odd spot ).
I vote that the Developers solve those self-destructive sorts of issues before getting the back arrow to function in a reasonable manner. grin.

  • Moving Movie Clips with Arrow keys

How do i make it so when i click the left arrow key, it will
change the movie clip to make it turn around?

Yes, that's what the code I gave you is intended to do....
you replace that code with whatever action you need to take to turn
    your movie around.
I have no idea what your movieclip is doing, but I'm guessing
by your response that if it was an arrow pointing left to right
(just an example), you want it to be pointing right to left when
the left arrow is pressed. If you want an immediate turn around,
then the simplest way to do that is to have another frame
containing the movieclip that it moves to where it faces the other
direction--and to have it appear turned around, from the toolbar
you select Modify -> Transform -> Flip Horizontal.
So the movieclip would live inside another movieclip that has
two frames with stop()'s for each frame. In the first frame you
would have the subclip facing left to right, and in the second you
would have it facing right to left. If we call that 2-framed
movieclip "walker", the code I provided before would
    become...

  • No arrow keys, a real drag!

OK, almost getting by without Flash and viewing half the internet.
So, no arrow keys means I can't edit posts in many PHP based forums. DRAG. Of course we could try and force the world to follow standards, or make a product the I want to use instead of just show off.
He, he, just had the same problem in this post.
    Love the pad though. <g>

I am also disappointed by the lack of arrow keys. Editing web addresses in the top bar can be a pain if the address is longer than the bar. You can can not change http to ghttp to import into good reader for example.
It's actually quite easy to edit the URL field (web address) using the magnifier. To do this simply tap the URL field (this will bring up the key board) then place your finger over the text in the field and press. A magnifier will appear. You can then slide your finger left or right to position the cursor where you want. It can be positioned at the very beginning of the field or the very end. If the text in the field exceeds the width of the field the text will scroll when the cursor is moved to the edge of the field. With a bit of practice you can get quite good at this.
That's not to say that an option to have arrow keys couldn't be provided, but every key added means that all keys have to be smaller.

  • Arrow keys will not change page in ade

I can change the page by clicking the arrow on the bottom of the page but the arrow key on keyboard will not change the page.  Any solution??

Press ctrl-t - this will activate the "Transform tool" and then you can use the arrow keys to nudge the object layer.

  • Photos scroll in opposite direction of arrow keys

    How about this one:
When iPhoto starts acting screwy on me (every other time I try to crop or enhance photos), it gets stuck for a while afterwards with the arrow keys corresponding to the opposite directions.  Hitting right arrow scrolls left, and vice versa.
No other programs, including other iLife apps are affected.  Ideas?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Arrow key and space bar do not work scrolling in PDF document with film file?

I have made a single PDF file from 26 different InDesign files, first exported to PDF:s. Text and photos. One of the documents contain a film file (.mov). As I scroll through the documents in full screen mode, once I start to play and stop the film I can no longer use the spacebar nor right arrow key to get to the next document. Only mouse works.

    Hi Melfour-
Here is a Support article detailing how to work with your Firefox PDF preferences:
    [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]]
    Hope that helps.

  • Some of the shortcut keys and directional keys on the keyboard are not working in FF 4 RC1 (i.e. Tab, Ctrl+C, arrow keys). They work fin in FF 3.6x and other applications.

Crtl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Tab, and arrow keys do not work at all in FF4.0b13 and later. I am not sure about earlier versions as this is the first version I have tried.

I found this helpful article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381) and worked my way through the section "Some keys don't work as expected".
All the following functions/settings are disabled or turned off:
Text to speech / Speak selected text when the key is pressed
    Slow Keys
    Mouse Keys.
The keyboard viewer just confirms my list of keys that are not working.
Starting in safe mode makes no difference; nor does booting from the Mac OS X Install Disc and running Terminal from the Utilities menu. The same keys as before fail to work.
This seems to confirm that it's a hardware issue. Anyone have any suggestions?
