Arrow keys only partial working

The arrow keys on my MBP has stopped working. They work as long as I hold down the shift key (for selecting text in a document) but on their own, they're completely dead.
Since they are working when the shift key is pressed, I guess it probably isn't a hardware problem. Turning off or restarting didn't help, but there is probably some dead obvious solution to this that I have missed.

For starters, I would assume the problem in your account is likely to be rooted in a login item: something you've installed that starts running as soon as you start up your computer.
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts, select your account, and click the Login Items tab. I believe you should see iTunesHelper, SpeechSynthesisServer, and System Events - all Apple software, and therefore not likely to cause problems. Of the other items listed, does any of them have anything to do with your keyboard? If so, disable it by selecting it and then clicking the "-" button below the list. If not, disable half of your third-party login items. Then close System Preferences, restart the computer, log into your account, and see whether the problem persists. If it does, disable the other half of your third-party login items and repeat the restart-and-retest routine. This procedure will tell you which half contains the cause of the problem, and you can use the same method to narrow things down further, re-enabling the items that are clearly not at fault as you go along. Post back with your findings.

You may have switched on [http://kb.mozillazine.org/accessibility.browsewithcaret caret browsing].
You can press press F7 (on Mac: fn + F7) to toggle caret browsing on/off.

Have new update but when i am on trying to sync I have no scroll down bar to select option on the bottom of pages so sync is not done with all i want on it. Using my arrow keys also dont work. I have deleted itunes

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

DW CS4 shift+arrow keys no longer work?

I use Dreamweaver a fair amount. Just recently when I want to
highlight a bunch of code while in code view, the shift + Arrow
keys no longer work. The first letter is highlighted, but as I
press the arrow a second time nothing is highlighted. This problem
is only in Dreamweaver (CS4) and not any other application. I can't
shift+UpArrow as an example.
This is something I do ALL the time while coding and now it
just stopped working.
I looked at the Keyboard Shortcuts and all the Shift+ArrowKey
are still listed so it's not that.
I looked at the Preferences and can't see anything that looks
wrong.
I have rebooted and still this issue persists.
This is ONLY in Dreamweaver and in fact only in Code view
window. If I Split the screen OR use Design view, in the design
window I can use shift+Arrow to highlight text as normal.
Any ideas????

I just saw your answer. I looked in my preferences in the Library and there is a shortcut folder, but it is totally empty. I have a funny feeling either the patch I ran from Adobe knocked it out or running "Carbon Copy" to copy one drive to the other knocked it out.
I'm wondering if there is any way I can grab a copy of this folder from somewhere else and put it back into my system. I'm on a Mac so it would have to be compatible with a Mac running Tiger.

Some of the shortcut keys and directional keys on the keyboard are not working in FF 4 RC1 (i.e. Tab, Ctrl+C, arrow keys). They work fin in FF 3.6x and other applications.

Crtl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Tab, and arrow keys do not work at all in FF4.0b13 and later. I am not sure about earlier versions as this is the first version I have tried.

I found this helpful article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381) and worked my way through the section "Some keys don't work as expected".
All the following functions/settings are disabled or turned off:
Text to speech / Speak selected text when the key is pressed
Slow Keys
Mouse Keys.
The keyboard viewer just confirms my list of keys that are not working.
Starting in safe mode makes no difference; nor does booting from the Mac OS X Install Disc and running Terminal from the Utilities menu. The same keys as before fail to work.
This seems to confirm that it's a hardware issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

Arrow Keys Won't Work on Many Websites

On many game sites, the arrow keys won't work at all, so I'm not able to play. The hardware is fine, they work fine in email and Word, just not on the game sites. Do I have a setting wrong? I've checked everything (I think....)

The arrow keys are working for me in the game on http://www.ezone.com/games/jazzy/gamecode.htm. The arrow keys work slugishly for me in the game I tried on www.freeonlinegames.com/play/3350.html. The third sight seems to require registration so I did not try it.
Freeonline games was more responsive for me using Firefox, you might want to give this browser a try and see how it behaves.

Arrow keys dowsn't work

1. I've got macbook pro 15". Version 10.5.8. after few updates I found that 3 arrow keys stopped to work. I can't find the reason why, so please help me.
2. My mac is already quite old and I'd like to update video adapter and memory to 4GB. But I don't know if it will be right decision.

MacBook Pro up arrow key does not work how to fix it?

When I am just working on the computer the up arrow key does not work at all but when I use bootcamp to go to the PC side the arrow works so i know its not a phisical problem, i have tryed everything i know and still no success.

I would be concerned too the up arrow key on my keyboard was not working. I found an article that can assist with further isolating and troubleshooting issues with the built in keyboard. After 10.4.7 update, arrow keys don't work

After installing 10.4.7 update, my arrow keys don't work at all in finder (three column mode). I can arrow up and down in list mode.
Any help out there?

My arrow keys are not working inside flash games

Whenever I play any flash game, my arrow keys are not working. They work perfectly fine when I am scrolling the site with them, but not in flash games.
I am using Google Chrome, flash player version 10,3,181,36 and my operating system is Win7 64 bit.
Solutions I've already tried:
Use another webbrowser
Re-install Flash player
Restart PC
Try another keyboard
I have this problem ever since the last Flash Player update.

It sounds like your arrow keys are not working correctly. I would start with these steps from the following article named:

You may have accidentally set an option that changes how your keyboard operates.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Dictation & Speech, then click “Text to Speech.” If “Speak selected text when the key is pressed” is selected, deselect it or click Change Key to select another key.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Keyboard. Make sure Slow Keys is turned off. If Slow Keys is on, you must hold down a key longer than usual before it’s recognized.

Mac OS X: my arrow keys don't work in swf

When I run a flash application in a browser, the arrow keys
do not work. The space bar works, but no arrows. This is affecting
games, mostly.

Hello Everyone,
My Hp Laptop has gone through a serious problem. Its Spacebar,Enter,Delete,up and down Arrow keys have stopped working . I am not sure how this problem caused . So i gone through varios fixes, that were -
1. Rstoring to an earliar date.
2. Re-installling Keyboard driver
3. Formating the System.
The third fix Formating helped me and my keys started working . After some day I installed a software HP Network Manager but this after installing it again those keys stopped working and also the LED lights on Caps Lock and Wi- fi are not turning on but these two are functioning normally.
the some of the information related my HP laptop are-
Model: Pavilion G6
ram 4 gb.
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic
can anyone please suggest me is it a hardware related problem or some software/driver related ? And also what next i do to fix this serious issue...

Solved My left and right arrow keys are not working

I just installed gnome (been using kdemod) and now, while in gnome, my left and right arrow keys are not working. Please help me solve this. I am not using compiz.

I had that problem with Debian and later Arch, after I messed something up (never found out what). There was a chaotic but easy cure though (I've got no idea, why it did that on 3 different installations the exact same way - might be a logitech-keyboard issue or something... me-as-user-related)?:
- do all keyboard changes needed in xorg.conf NOW, had to repeat "strange steps" after each change.
- add new keyboard layout (no changes to default) in gnome keyboard settings
- delete old keyboard layout
- browse trough the keyboard layout "previews" of the newly added layout until it crashes (this step might be optional *g*)
- restart gnome, add "new new" layout, delete "new old" keyboard layout, and set the "new new" layout right (try evdev-manages first, then switch to youkeyboard/yourlocal if that didn't do it).

Left and right arrow keys are not working properly now

I searched the forum and didn't see this posted. My left and right arrow keys are not working properly now.
For example, when typing, left arrow does not produce the desired action (move cursor one spot to the left), and right arrow does not produce the desired action (move cursor one spot to the right). Also, control + left no longer activates spaces, and control + right no longer activates spaces.
Interestingly, in investigating the problem, I noticed that my shortcut keys for activating spaces and for activating expose had been changed (software update?). Before, I had set F5 (without pressing fn) for expose and had set F6 (without pressing fn) for spaces. Now, I noticed spaces was set back to the default of F8 (requiring fn).
The issue persists after shut down, and even when logged on to other users, e.g. Guest.
All other keys seem to be working fine, including the up and down arrows.
I don't think it's a cleaning issue because fn + left + right produces the "[" character on the screen.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same type of issue on my MacBook except not with arrow keys. The volume keys do different things when I click on them. For example, the mute key brings up the dashboard and the volume up key makes all the open screens smaller (don't know what this feature is called). I did a software update then restarted the computer when this starting happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
