Arrow pointing to the left with a phone next to it

I have an arrow pointing to the left with a phone next to it on the top left corner of my phone when it sits and goes into "stand-by" (my words, not sure if correct) mode - ie, if it is sitting for a a few minutes unused. When you hit any button - it goes away - you only have the normal screen.
I have no messages waiting or missed calls and have checked the diversion setting and is only set for divert when not answered - which is how it has been for the last 2 yrs.
I searced these discussions and all I could not find any other thing to check and cant find the symbol in my manual
anyone know what it is,
thanks
BTW - nokia 6610i
