Arrow symbol in Pages

I have recently switched from PC to Mac. One of the few things I cannot seem to figure out in Pages is how to add that little arrow-thingy. In newer versions of MS Office you have to punch "-" "-" ">" (i.e.: -->) and that is then transformed into a neat little arrow (useful to point out conclusions and so on). This does not work in Pages. Is there any way to insert this arrow symbol in a Pages document?

Go to Pages Preferences > Auto - Correction. Click on the + sign at the bottom. In the Replace column type the key combination you want to use. Tab to the With column. Now show the Character Palette and click the Symbols triangle and select Arrows. Double click the arrow of your choice.
Now when you type your key combination followed by a space you will get your ➔.
Follow this procedure for any symbol you want to insert. Note that this is for Pages and is not global.

Insert arrow symbol with keyboard

Hi,
I just started using Pages, and I'm looking for a way to type an arrow symbol without using my mouse. I know I can find all the icons I would want in 'Special Characters', but using your mouse isn't efficient. I read somewhere I can add an autocorrect in preferences, languages and text, but when I try to add the autocorrect (from --> to →, similar to the autocorrection in Microsoft Word) it wont do this in Pages. The other autocorrections do work, but this one won't. The arrow symbol is a copy from the symbol Pages let's you insert in the special characters window.
So I'm wondering, what am I doing wrong that my --> won't turn into → in Pages, while the other autocorrections do work.

Here are the solutions that I use in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text. Both left and right arrows are visible in this screen capture. The right/left arrow symbol is directly from the Special Characters, Arrow category, which are double-clicked to place them in the With column. In Pages v5.2.2, the Edit > Substitutions > Text Replacement menu item is selected.

If it is still under warranty you can call the 800 number to apple and enter the serial number and it will tell you if it is under warranty or not if not its like $30 basically for them to help or something like that it said today when i called...
Or take it to a genius bar if you have one near?
Or further explain what setting you are needing fixed back and im sure someone here can help you for free!

Hand symbol vs an Arrow symbol

Hi Xcesius experts,
Can anybody tell me how keep the mouse pointer to an arrow symbol rather than a hand symbol? In flash, when the Hand symbol appears, the speed at which I can move the cursor around really slows down. I know that in certain conditions, like when a drill down is enabled, the hand pointer will be shown, but I really want the arrow pointer and not the hand. I use the grid symbol quite often and because of the hand symbol, it is very difficult to move from one grid cell to another, especially if the grid is large.
Alternatively if somebody can recommend a third party grid object that does not use the hand symbol, but has all the rest of the functionality, that would be fantastic.

You can find some math symbols in Pages if you go to Special Characters. Open Pages, go to Edit menu (on the menu bar) > Special Characters, and choose math symbols in the sidebar, so you will be able to add a symbol double-clicking the symbol.
However, it may not include all symbols. In this case, you will have to use other third-party applications

Are you talking about in Tables?
The list seems to be the list.
In Pages '09 there is more flexibility you can have a Custom format and add your own prefix.

I just reread your question. The horseshoe is a cloud symbol. Clicking on it refreshes your episode. If there is no cloud with arrow, there is no new episode to download. When you click on it, the blue dot which indicates an unplayed episode awaits you, shows the progress of the download in a sort of analog clock manner. After it's done, it should turn blue again and the cloud with arrow should be gone.
The rectangle with clean is part of ratings podcast creators can use to show what audience they are making it suited for. Some rectanges say "explicit", most don't have anything.

That is not a feature that's available on the iPhone. Sorry.

How to avoid arrow symbol on the menu items....

I am beginer in using Dream Weaver, I wanted to create a website,
I created a menu using Insert Spry Menu option, I don't want to see the arrow symbol on the menu items if there are some submenus. Could you please let me know if we have any option to do that?

The arrow symbol is a useful visual signal, but if you do want to get rid of it simply delete the four style rules in the section labelled "Submenu Indication" in the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css or SpryMenuBarVertical.css style sheet in the SpryAssets folder.

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

Greek symbols in pages?

By selecting the font symbol in pages, the letter selected is not changing in the corresponding greek symbol. For example if I select a b and then I change the font from helvetica to symbol I'm expecting the b changes in beta. Am I wrong?

The Symbol font is not the right solution for the Greek writing system for a specific range of reasons.
The coded character set of the Apple Macintosh in January 1984 had 256 code points. The last 39 code points were unpopulated, and the other code points were populated by the characters for the writing systems of Western Europe including English.
When Steve Jobs and John Warnock decided the core Type 1 fonts for the Apple LaserWriter released in January 1985, they decided on a solution that provided Greek glyphs and mathematical glyphs that were to be typeset by entering character codes for Western European.
The same problem persisted in Adobe Sonata for music and Adobe Carta for cartography - the meaning embodied in the character code was one thing and the shape embodied in the Type 1 glyph was something completely different.
The same problem persisted in Symbol for Apple TrueType 1.0 introduced for System 7.0. Both Adobe Type 1 Symbol and Apple TrueType 1.0 Symbol are still supported, and if you pick the wrong version of Symbol you are placing graphic shapes whose meaning is, well, meaningless.
Technicalities aside, the Greek glyphs in Symbol follow the tradition of cursive Greek introduced by Aldus Manutius and followed for four centuries (Magnus may know that Nordstedt aka the Royal Printing Office in Stockholm had a cursive Greek in this style cut by Granjon).
Stanley Morison, typographic adviser to the Monotype Corporation, held that the Aldine style of cursive Greek was illegible. Nicholas Barker, Curator of early printed books at the Library of the British Museum, held the same view.
The tendency in type design, therefore, has been towards Greek assimilated to antiqua, and more recently to grotesque i.e. sans serif.
