I am a chemistry teacher, and I am typing chemical equations
H2+O2=H20 The equals sign to be an arrow. In office you can "insert>symbol" and their is an arrow (different than the object arrow) Where can I find this

Open system preference, open international, select input menu, turn on character palette, once it is turned on, it will be in your menu bar, select show character palette, there you will find extra symbols.

IU'm curious if this is a 'getting used to Macs' issue;

That is, they do not do anything useful, like
go to the start or end of a text field. The
keys do function, though. Home goes to the start
of a document, and end goes to the end. Seems
silly to me; how often do you go to the start
or end of a document, versus the start or end

While using fire fox with windows 7. and you hit the back arrow. random pages start to pop up.

while using firefox with windows 7 every time i click the back arrow it will load a random page behind what i am looking at. any thing from gamevance to home refinancing to some mozilla pages.

How do I get scroll arrows for Pages?

I run OS 10.8.5, just bought Pages and have no scroll arrown, only the bar. In Mac system preferences there is no way to set them as the notes in Pages says. Is no arrows the way for Pages, if so, how does one get around in page. Very inconvient to use the bar ecvery time want to move up or down.

Scrolling on your MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion (OS X v10.8.x) is controlled mainly by two-finger gestures on the track pad.
Check System Preferences for Trackpad to set the options (and to see a mini-tutorial for each of the multi-finger gestures).

It's a lot of trouble (probably more than it is worth), but this kind of display can be built manually in Pages using the Character Viewer (and, in the example below, a table for layout).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

In Safari, (the web browser), there are specific arrows to go back and forward through website pages.
In other Apps, it will depend on how the App is built.
As to Yahoo Mai it depends on where you are viewing the email. If you are using the Mail App, then you don't log out. The Mail accounts in the Mail App are always there.
If you are using the Yahoo App, You can Tap on the folder at the top, then on your account/name, and then on Sign Out.

How do I stop automatic loading of the next page as I scroll to the bottom of an internet page that has a number of pages?

When I search with Google, as I scroll to near the bottom of the page, the next page of results automatically loads. I can never get to and use the similar searches, or "Searches related to ***", which are at the bottom of the page, as the next page loads and focuses at the top of that next page. Also, there is a bar with the page number, and a field with a "Jump to" command with a pop down arrow with page numbers, and up and down arrows beside it which go up or down one page if used.
This does not happen with, say, Bing, nor if I use Int Expl (aagh).
I have no autopage type of add-ons, or plugins.. I may have had an add-on at one time. There are a bunch of autopager "strings", or lines, in about:config. How do you remove them, if that is the problem?
How do I stop this from happening? It is extremely annoying.

The page dont open in the first try

I have to click on the (x) in the addressfield and then click on the arrow (Update page)
When you have opened a page it works fine the next time you open it.
I have updated everything, stopped many programs to start when windows (xp) starts, reset and reinstall Firefox, reinstalled Zone-alarm...i have tried everything and now i´m stuck.
For a couple of years ago i have similar problem, found a solution on internet (about:config) but i cant find a solution this time.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

In version 8 the "stop loading the current page" icon is missing. How do I get it back?

In Firefox 4 and newer versions, the Go, Stop and Reload buttons are combined in one button at the right end of the URL or Address bar. The button changes depending on the activity:
*green Go arrow when typing in the address bar
*red Stop ("X") button while page is loading
*gray Reload (circular arrow) when page is finished loading.

I can get Safari homepage up but it won't do searches. Both upper left arrows are gray instead of black.

1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

IBook G4 arrow keys

For some unknown reason the arrow keys (page up/page down/home/end) on my iBook have stopped working? Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

I'm having a similar issue on a PowerBook G4. In this case, only the right arrow key does not work correctly. All other arrow keys work as expected. In some apps (TextEdit, Safari) pressing RIGHT arrow does nothing, in other apps it seems to be mapped incorrectly. For instance in iTunes, right arrow key press produces the same efffect as "tab" (namely, tabbing between search field, browse box, library pane, and music list).
In response to your questions: All other keys work correctly. Have not installed RAM or an AirPort Extreme card. Have not opened the keyboard. FN+RIGHT Arrow (as well as UP arrow) key in Safari correctly produces a page down effect deduced from the fact that FN+LEFT arrow (and FN+DOWN arrow) key also produces page down effect. Other users on the machine do not have the issue.
Additional info: the user where the problem exists is the Administrator user.
Your help (and perhaps an explanation of whats going on here) will be very much appreciated!

Playback stuck at splash page

This may be a Flash Player, rather than Presenter, issue - but I need to start somewhere.
I'm getting reports from users that a course we created in Presenter launches, but gets stuck at the "Adobe Presenter" with the circling arrow splash page. Local IT has indicated that this happens on all of their locked down computers. If IT logs in as Admin and does nothing but launch that course, it launches completely successfully and moves to the content - and all subsequent users have the same successful experience under any account.
That's implying that something is updating automatically upon launch under the Admin login that isn't getting updated under the standard login.
What things can I be looking at (or directing IT to look at)? Is there a setting in Presenter I'm using that could be causing this? Is there something about the login restrictions that I should be directing them to examine? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. I should clarify that it's being delivered via LMS, not run locally. It's a SCORM-based course.
When the non-admin user clicks launch, the grey "Adobe Presenter" splash screen (pre-loader, really, I guess) is as far as they get. If an admin user logs in to the same computer and launches the course, it plays fine for the admin and any subsequent user, admin or not.
I'm not sure what to look for in the global security settings. Can you be more specific?

Page Down command

Is there a Page Down command or keyboard shortcut for it on the MacBook Pro? (I'm looking for something like the Page Down button on a Windows PC keyboard.) There is nothing in Help.
