Arrrgggh!  cfdocument font bug?

I'm using cfdocument to create a pdf of a very simple html
page that uses html entities (greek and math/scientific).
Slight edits to the html completely change which entities (if
any) actually show up in the PDF, at one time or another, virtually
every character has shown up, so I believe the server font supports
the characters.
There seems to be no method to the madness. I have a test
script running at CrystalTech (
http://67.199.32.119/testpdf.cfm)
that shows the html in a textarea, and creates a PDF if you submit
it. If you try it, and then remove the table rows that contain
entities that don't appear in the PDF and try again, you'll see a
whole different set of entities don't show up! Whaaaat?
Has anyone got an idea what's going on? I desperately need
these entities in the PDF.

I'm not sure if Times New Roman has all of the characters you
need. If you specify "Lucida Sans Unicode", your server creates the
correct PDF file.
When I used Time New Roman in the CSS, the PDF file had
Batang (a Korean font), Helvetica and TimesNewRomanPSMT. I'm not
sure if this is a bug in cfdocument or what, but you can try
creating a CSS class for your symbols if you do not want your whole
document displayed in Lucida.
Funny thing is that I have Lucida Sans Unicode installed in
my Fonts folder but IE 7 doesn't display 20 or so of your symbols.
Firefox is fine.

  • CF8 cfdocuments new bugs (font size, bold, underline...)

    Hi
    I face the following problems after upgrading from CF 7.0.2
    to CF8 + Cumulative Hotfix 1 :
    - bold and underline generates white space around them if
    they are embedded in a sentence (i.e "this is bold text
    </bod> and it is fun")
    - font size behavior has changed, the text is now bigger. (My
    font-size: 12px is bigger than before)
    - when reducing it (i.e font-size: 11px) the bold/underline
    problem becomes the opposite : instead of white space, I have
    overlapping texts.
    We use a html 4.01 transitional doctype and CSS styles (i.e
    div class="myclass" and .myclass{..} in a separate css file)
    Any suggestion ?

    the cf8 cfdocument cumulative hotfix has been updated on Jan
    30 2008 -
    have you re-installed it?

  • PDF font bug in Preview

    I've put Leopard on all 9 of my macs, and I love it.
    On one of them (unfortunately the macbook pro that I use all the time), I'm having a nasty bug with PDFKit.
    When I open a PDF file that I made in pdflatex in Preview, sometimes it looks fine, but sometimes the fonts are all wrong and sans-serif-y. In many occasions, I an switch back and forth between the good fonts and the bad fonts JUST BY SWITCHING AWAY FROM PREVIEW AND SWITCHING BACK.
    bad:
    http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/9eeb21311/ThisLooksAwful.png
    good:
    http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/c83d91304/ThisLooksGreat.png
    Has anyone seen anything like this? The bad fonts propagate themselves all the way to a printed page.

    Indeed, wiping out the caches is not a permanent solution.
    I found a couple of threads in some tex newsgroups that discuss this problem. There doesn't seem to be a resolution. There was some discussion that Latex Equation Editor is no longer being developed, but LaTeXIt, a similar program shows a similar font corruption problem. Fonts are fine in Preview until using LaTeXIt (or Latex Equation Editor), when they get 'corrupted'. By that I mean that documents viewed in Preview often come up sans-serif, regardless of the original font, and often special characters, such as arrows above letters (indicating vectors) disappear. Keynote files that use those characters (from, for example, using LaTeXIt under Tiger) show corruption. Rebooting (and possibly simply logging out and back in) 'cures' the problem, ie, Preview and Keynote are once again happy. During all this, Acrobat is always happy.
    This is kind of painful, since I give physics lectures using Keynote, and things like integral and summation signs and vectors and such are kind of nice to have around.
    Someone has got to know what is going on!

  • Font bug in Preview PDFs due to ATSSERVER

    Hello all,
    For the past couple of months I have been having a very annoying problem where the text of pdf is garbled. I'll download a pdf file and when I open it some or most characters are replaced with empty spaces or symbols.
    After a lot of searching a few weeks ago I found a post describing this exact problem, but to make this solution easier to find (and since this bug has not been fixed) I will post it again.
    If you pdf files have missing or garbled text, open terminal and kill the ATSSERVER process with the following command line (substitute in your user name):
    killall -u [YourUserName] ATSServer
    After running this command, ATSServer will relaunch right away. If you close the afflicted pdf file and reopen it all the fonts will display properly. I don't know why it happens, and I wish I could find the previous thread on this to thank the person who originally suggested that terminal command.
    Apple, this is a frustrating bug that needs attention.
    Thank you!

    Is there still interest in other details? My problem is that I may get the right font or another substituted generically; the documents always open OK in Adobe Acrobat 9, but in Preview (directly) or by Finder/spacebar I can get different appearances *each time* I open, in quick succession: parts of the document may have the correct, serif, font and others a generic substitution. I'm using documents I've written and compiled using TeXShop 2.26 / MacTex 2008
    Within a minute's interval, opening the same document three times can give different results, mixing the right and the substituted font in the one document, or sometimes only the substituted font.
    I'm not very familiar with the processes that should be running, but I was a bit surprised to find two instances of ATSServer at one time; perhaps this is normal spawn...?
    168 ATSServer marj 0.0 2 10.94 MB 704.14 MB Intel
    615 ATSServer _atsserver 0.0 2 3.94 MB 622.83 MB Intel
    I have screendumps at: http://public.me.com/mjbnks
    thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • Annoying font bug in EM

    Good morning,
    I am pretty sure this isn't the right place to report bugs but, since I do not have a Metalink account, hopefully someone that is an Oracle paying customer will do what I cannot.
    EM has a simple but very annoying bug: it does not use a fixed font to display the output logs (of a job for instance). This results in output like this: (which looks even worse as a post in the forum than it does in the EM window)
    >
    File Status Marked Corrupt Empty Blocks Blocks Examined High SCN
    1 OK 0 13301 88325 1458980
    >
    which gives the impression that there are 13301 corrupt blocks in the file examined (not the kind of thing a DBA wants to see). I doubt I have to point out how cumbersome reading this unformatted output is.
    However, using a fixed font, the very same output would look like this:
    File Status Marked Corrupt Empty Blocks Blocks Examined High SCN
    1    OK     0              13301        88325           1458980   which now shows that there are 13301 empty blocks (much better news than before). The problem, as we all know is, EM is using a proportional font when it should be using a fixed font such as Courier New.
    This trivial little bug substantially subtracts from the usefulness of EM to review logs.
    Thank you for reporting this to the powers that can make it right,
    John.

  • How can I fix Lion system font bugs?

    I've recently updated to Snow Leopard to do an uptade to Lion. Already, once the Snow was installed the system font was altered to the one in the image at the botom. I thought installing Lion would do the trick and it would fix the bug, but it didn't. It's been impossible to find articles with the same topic.
    I went to Genius and all the could tell me was to erase all my machine and start all over again. Yet, I want to get another input before.
    Can anyone help?

  • Cfdocument font problem

    Hi all,
    I used cfdocument to create a pdf. Anfortunately the font
    used in the content isn't showed in the pdf. I define the font with
    css in the file itself. The font is installed on the server and
    fontembed (property of cfdocument) is set to yes. The strange thing
    is the font shows when a pdf is created via a report (.cfr).
    When I test the file on my localmachine it works fine, but on
    the server it doesnt work. My local machine runs om Windows, the
    server runs on Unix. Both machines are running Coldfusion MX 7. Am

    Thank you for your answer and sorry for replying this late.
    We use the IKEA Sans font family. This is the corporate font

    correct font on Unix box but cfdocument does not. Below you will

  • Cfdocument header bug?

    Is this a bug?
    cfdocumentsection is supposed to have their own header and
    footer. This example mimics one in the documentation. I loop
    through a simple counter from 1 to 4 and name each page, header and
    footer with the loop number. But if you run this simple code, 4
    pages of a PDF will be created, the pages will be 1 to 4, but every
    pages' header and footer will say "5" on it..
    <cfdocument pagetype="letter"
    format="pdf"
    filename="#variables.filePath#" overwrite="true"
    >
    <cfloop index="ctr" from="1" to="4">
    <cfdocumentsection>
    <cfoutput><h1>Page
    #ctr#</h1></cfoutput>
    <cfdocumentitem type="header">
    <cfoutput>Header #ctr#</cfoutput>
    </cfdocumentitem>
    <cfdocumentitem type="footer">
    <cfoutput>Footer #ctr#</cfoutput>
    </cfdocumentitem>
    </cfdocumentsection>
    </cfloop>
    </cfdocument>

    Success! Upgrading to 8.0.1 fixed the header/footer issue.
    It also seems to have really helped the layout stability of
    the pdf as well. Before the scaling was unpredictable and changed
    for each page.
    Looks much better now, thanks!

  • Interface Builder ( IB ) font bug?

    I noticed in ib, if i choose arial and then bold face (for labels, titles etc) it displays the text properly and is the proper bold. but when i deploy the app the text is gone, what i find wierd is in ib if you choose fonts that are not on iphone the text itself looks like it is the default font (eg. it doesnt let you use none iphone fonts)
    so is this a bug with arial bold only?
    i also tried to choose regular arial and then on the interface builder top menu i choose font >> bold and it turns the text bold, and it still doesnt display when compiled..
    It makes no sense to me to have ib to do interface stuff when something like simple font choosing is buggy and/or not properly supported.

    Human interface guidelines mandating a certain degree of consistency in appearance make a lot of sense, as would the fact that you cannot use fonts which are not available on the target system.
    Arial is a horrible ripoff of Helvetica anyway.

  • Podcasting URL font bug discovered...

    Hello folks,
    I have discovered a bug in GarageBand while video podcasting. When you create a chapter marker that uses a URL name & link - the final export to disk or send to iWeb messes up the URL font style, font size and font colour. When inspecting the final podcast in iWeb or Quicktime Pro the URL font is dark blue in colour and too small to see or click on.
    What is the purpose of this podcast feature if the URL font can't be edited ?
    The same holds true for still pictures from iPhoto as well if used in a podcast.
    If anyone from the GarageBand development team could discuss this problem that would be much appreciated - time is of the essence, no pressure...
