Arrrrrgh!  Error 1413!  Can't Update ipod!

After finally managing to fix the problem I had downloading and installing the new itunes, NOW I've got a problem upgrading to the new version of software for the ipod.
I download the software but when I try to install, I get this error #1413.
Does anyone know about this? Only a few posts seem to allude to it.
Thanks...

So I have installed the new iTunes 7 on my win xp pro 64 bit PC. I plugged my iPod (gen 3 i think) in an tried to update it. I get the error message "The iPod "Richard's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)." This is like a Microsoft error message for heavens sake! Plus it removed all my album art from my iPod! I cant find anything on this error message or the one below on the apple site.
So I then; turned off disk use, reset all the iPod setting back to the factory settings, did a hard reset and tried to restore my iPod using iTunes 7 because my exiting iPod updater says “Invalid iPod service version”.
And I get another error message saying “The iPod "Richard's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (1418)."
I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix this, but is really really annoying! I am trying to download so older ipod update versions to see if I can roll back and get things working again.
I am downloading the windows iPod updater vs 2006–03-23 from http://www.download.com/3001-2169_4-10549477.html as well as iPod Updater 2006-06-28 for Windows from the apple site http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628forwindows.html so hopefully I will be able to sort this out - assuming that they will be able to run on a 64 bit machine which for some reasons apple stopped supprt for between versions of iTunes.
Otherwise I guess the answer is to remove iTunes 7 entirely and start over with an older version of iTunes, perhaps even the original software disk that came with the iPod. When a few updated versions of iTunes have come and gone I will think about installing it again.

I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked. I had been having trouble syncing music, When I tried to sync, iTunes said it didn't recognize my iPod, even though I was on the iPod page in iTunes which showed the model number and the serial number of my iPod

I am having essentialy the same problem, but my iPod came from a PC and is now on a PC. The person who gave me the iPod didn't give me the wall adapter piece, so I bought a "Griffin" brand that was said to be compatible with this model. When I first plugged it into the wall, the Apple appeared with a bar underneath as though it was loading the new software. When the bar got to the end, the "plug into the wall" icon reappeared, but when I plug it in to the wall now, that icon is the only thing that shows, even after resetting and trying to run diagnostics.
When I doc the iPod on a charger I have or plug the USB into my computer and "reset" it, a battery with a charge icon appears, but there is no "motion" in the icon so it doesn't appear to be charging. The screen eventually goes back to the apple then to the "plug it into the wall" icon. HELP!!! Is is possible the wall adapters isn't the right one? Should I be charging through a firewire cable instead (which I also don't have...)?

  • Why do i keep getting error msg #1403 when updating ipod software in itunes

why do i keep getting error msg #1403 when updating ipod software in itunes

I Googled an found no good solutions. II would try:
    - Making sure that you have the latest version of iTunes, 10.6.
    - Disable firewall and antivirus.
What iOS is currently on the iPod?

  • Can't update iPod Touch SW from 1.1.3 (with software upgrade) - 1602 error

I get errors trying to sync since the 1.1.4 upgrade became available, plus I do connect and sync, I can't update to 1.1.4: "The iPod could not be updated. An Unknown error occurred (1602)." Has anyone else encountered this? Any solution ideas? Any way to contact Apple tech support on this?

I think that this is the error you get when the sync fails due to lack of sufficent US power (or hyperthreading - see other discussions).
I solved it in the short term by unplugging as many USB devices as I could, restarting everything including powering off the IPOD then recovering the IPOD. The longer term solution was to buy an external USB hub. I have an Intel motherboard. I'm not sure if other motherboards have simular issues.

  • Can't Update Ipod. An Unknown Error Occurred (1453)

Updating 2nd Gen 8 G iPod Nano on my Dual 1.25 MDD with 10.4.8 to Version 1.0.2. Downloads fine but when it trys to update the firmware I get the above message. Any Ideas????

Hey KickSock and other who've posted,
Okay, I'm not sure if this is related to your issue, but try this:
1 - While you are getting your error message while trying to update in iTunes, go to "My Computer" in Windows Explorer (leave iTune up and running).
2 - Right-click on your iPod's drive, and click on "Eject".
3 - Go back to iTunes, and try to update your iPod again.
Also, although this isn't the same error message, try the technique in this post for error 1417 (when updating your iPod) -> A solution for error 1417, occuring when updating
I hope this helps you guys,

If any post helps or solves your issue, please mark it that way accordingly. Thank you for helping the boards!

  • Can't update ipod to iOS 4.0

When I plug my iPod touch into my computer it asks me if I wish to download and install the new iOS 4.0. I say I do so it downloads it but then towards the end it says it's unable to download it due to network error. (Error -3259). Can anyone tell me how to overcome this? Or what I've done wrong.
    Thanks.

Many other people are having the same "Error-3259" problem when updating, and I'm not so sure that disabling the firewall and anti-virus is the solution since others have tried the same thing with no results.
I have to admit, however, that I have no solution either. Try typing "Error 3259" in the "Search Discussions" search bar. That will take you to the threads with the similar problem.

  • Can't update IPOD mini

Hey, does anyone know how to solve this problem? Usually when u plug in the ipod mini, it will show "do not disconnect' icon on the ipod mini. But now it does not do that. It just charge my ipod mini. My main question is why can't the ITUNE read the ipod mini that i connected to the pc. I can't update a single song to the ipod mini at all. Please help me.
    Thanks~!!

First, try resetting the iPod with it connected. Try several times if it doesn't work the first.

  • Can't Update iPod Touch 1G

Hello I am currently using an iPod Touch 1G, version: 2.2.1.
The problem I am having is that I can't update it. I've gone back to it after not using in a while and it won't allow me to use the free apps that I used to enjoy such as iMob until I update to version 3.0.
However my iTunes is telling me that this is the latest version and doesn't give me the option to update. I have tried restoring the iPod, as well as updating and reinstalling iTunes.
I'm not sure where the problem is, whether it is my iTunes, iPod or if the 1G can't be updated any further(which I really wouldn't be happy about).
This iPod has never been hacked or jailbroken or whatever other terms that describe it being used against Apples policies.
I hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Britain666
p.s. Forgot to add that I use 64 bit version of iTunes (not sure if it matters).

OK sorry but found the answer on another topic.
Bit ridiculous that 1G users have to pay to update to an inferior version whereas everyone else gets the latest one free though.

  • Can't update ipod cause playlist being updated do not exist

I installed my ipod software. Great! Easy to use. Then my computer crashed for other reasons. I got a new computer, installed again, and when I try to update my iPod, iTunes tells me they can't update my songs because the playlists I am updating (I did create a couple on the old computer) are gone.
Now I can't update my iPod cause I got a new computer? HELP!

As long as you still have a backup of the music (on the new computer prefably) try restoring your Nano with Ipod updater. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60944
