Art work information

Maybe this is not a life or death situation, but is there a way to get the Artwork info for all CDs that have been downloaded into itunes?
Purchased music does it automaticaly but is there a way possibly to get it from a program such as gracenote?
Suggestions would be very appreciated.

Gracenote does not hold that information, but here are a couple of methods.
First off, make sure you have "show album art" enabled in iPod options.

Go to Google Image Search and type in the artist/album name and click on search images.

Double click on a picture you like, then at the top of that page click on "see full size image".

When you get that image, simply copy/paste it into the space for album artwork in iTunes.

Make sure you select the album in the browser of iTunes before you copy/paste.

You'd be surprised what Google Images can bring up. There are literally millions, and even obscure album artwork can be found.
In the unlikely event that Google can’t find an image, you can also get artwork from Amazon.
If you’re happy using images from Amazon, and don’t want to copy/paste, then iTunes Art Importer is a nice free program to do it for you.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • My art work isn't matching the song on my ipod 5, can anyone help me with this problem

I have the Ipod touch 5 and my art work isn't matching the song that's being played. For example if Im listening to Jay-Z, Fantasia's art work will appear. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so how did you resolve it?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete  all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Issue with album art work....

.....hey everyone. I have a issue with my itunes art work. Well it's on my gif's computer. She made the mistake of lending it to her little niece, which has a zone. There was a update prompted to update itunes and zone software. She updated both at the same time. Now her music is missing it's album art and now the zone software shows it has it(Music she imported from cd into itunes). Now my thought is that she made the zone software convert it to WMA format. But I check to see in my itunes folder in my music and it's still there. I try to access the album info in itunes, and even though the information is correct to the T, itunes say's it's not there. Can anyone help me with this issue. Thank you very much.

I think I know this problem. It doesn't have to do with Zone, it has to do with the latest iTunes.
If you select a song and it says "Album artwork not modifiable", then the likely problem is that iTunes9 added another ID3 V2 tag to the song, and now can't read the file. I had to manually go through 5000 songs and remove the duplicate tags using a tagging software. (I used tagscanner)

  • Itunes 10.5 lost album art work

When I turn on Itunes after updating to 10.5, I've  lost 20% of my Album Art work, and when I tell I tunes to find it, it dosn't.  Anyone else having that issue?

I wanted to post this to try to help other people out there who are frustrated with the Album Art and other iTunes issues.  This information builds on things I learned in past iTunes versions, but this is mostly about iTunes 10.5.1, and iOS 5.0.1.  I ran in to all these problems after I updated iTunes and the iPod, and a BIG mistake I made is I have not been keeping up with backing up iTunes.  I had three problems, I was missing songs, I was missing album art, and I had a problem with one of my apps I just updated.  I had to find a way to find an earlier version of that app, Snaplink Mobile, and then revert to back to it.  But that's another issue that doesn't affect most people, so back to the music issues.  I'm not saying this will fix everyone's situations, but this will probably work for most of us.  I read all the posts from people who lost all their album art.  I had to do the below and 2-3 syncs before I saw most of my art back.
First, I had to find a way to get ALL the music off of both iTunes and the iPod.  I can't emphasize enough what a mistake it is to reset the iPod or iTunes to factory settings before you try everything else!  There were 3 videos I brought that only existed on the iPod after I reset iTunes, and if I had reset both the iPod and iTunes before thinking, I would have lost them.
So, what happened was, it is not that clear in iTunes 10.5, you have to go to the iPod tab, then the music tab, and uncheck the box that says "sync music", then at the bottom hit apply.  This does not erase your music, it just removes it from iTunes.  Then on the iPod, version 5.0.1, I had to go to Settings, then General, then Usage, then Music, and then there's a hidden delete button for the music.  Under "all music," sweep your finger across the right side of the all music bar, and the hidden delete button will appear.
Then, it took 2-3 sync's to finally get both the iPod and the iTunes with no music.  Then, I re-checked "sync music" on iTunes and on sync, all my music was back on the iPod.  Then on iTunes, I clicked "consolidate library" and it copies (it does not move) all your music in to the iTunes music folder in one place.  Now all my music was back, but still a lot of art issues, so on to that.
If you use Google Images, you can find a LOT of missing album art, a lot of it is on Amazon, and other sources.  You want images that are square, and somewhere between 300 x 300 and 500 x 500, ideally.  Then, I use Microsoft Paint sometimes to edit the album covers if I want to change something small about the way they appear.  Then put all the art in a folder in the same place.  Of course,  you can also run "find artwork" in iTunes to find most of your stuff.
Now, a key thing to know is in the iPod, the album cover you see is pulled from track 1 of that music!  If the album art you see in iTunes is being pulled from a different track in the album, it will NOT appear in the iPod in your album list.  Databases are funny things, you have to know exactly what you're doing to work on them!  So, what you need to do is figure out where the album art you want for an album is at.  Use "get info", and find the album art you want for an album, and then right click and "copy" it.  Or, bring it up in Microsoft Paint, hit select all, and hit "copy."  Once you have that image, you want to make sure it is loaded for ALL tracks in that album in iTUnes.  As many have said, doing one track at a time, using "get info" is maddening and time consuming!  Fortunately, there are some shortcuts!
Once you have the album cover copied, there are several methods that work to get it on the entire album, all tracks.  One is, to type in the search bar on iTunes until only the album you want to work on is showing on the screen. Then you can use "select all" to highlight all the tracks in the album at the same time.  I had a few instances where this method alone would not bring up just the one album, so select all will not help in that case.  But fortunately, you can go through all the tracks on the album you want to work on, holding the "control" button down on the keyboard while you click multiple tracks.  This allows you to select manually more than one track.  Now, right click on all the highlighted tracks and hit "get info."  In the box that comes up, go to where the album cover is and right click and select "paste."  NOTE: You will see the check box next to the album cover come on with a check, but you will NOT see the album cover you just pasted until after you apply this.  When you hit apply, you will get a message that says "do you want to edit multiple items at once?"  Say yes.  It will then load the right album cover for all the tracks in the album, and fix a LOT of problems you're having.
Another thing you may have to do for some or all of your albums is on the same right click menu that "get info" is in, there's another one "view in windows explorer."  You may have to select all the tracks using select all, hit properties, and make sure the files are NOT set to "read only."  That causes a lot of problems too.  It's also possible to right click on your music folder, and make sure all files and folders are not set to read only, but all at the same time.
So, it would be SO great if Apple would be better at getting this type of information out in a clear an complete fashion, but that does not seem to happen.
And, always back up your iTunes!

  • Getting correct album art work ?

I am having difficulty with getting the correct album art work.
For example today i imported the Howling Bells album, whilst importing the art work i noticed itunes had the option of 3 different album covers - the incorrect one came up by a band with Howling in their title too.
How do i correct this - as it has happend a couple of times - of their being different versions of the covers - or bringing up covers by different artists with similar names.
    Thanks for any information.

I'm having this same problem... going back to what you said originally, that it gave you an option of 2 or more albums with the same name and you had to pick one. Mind you it gives you no real way of knowing which is correct or not. If you pick the wrong one then there's no way to get back to that first dialogue box and choose the other one.
Importantly, that other one may very well be correct and save us all the time of manually looking on Amazon etc. for the artwork. Besides, often other artwork's aspect ratios (Amazon, et al) don't match the iTunes aspect so your ipod will have white bars and stuff. The only alternative for me besides looking at Amazon or whatever is to delete the album from iTunes and re-rip from CD, then choose the OTHER option for which album I think it is. Dumb.

  • Obtaining album art work!!

Help I'm frustrated after shelling out for an abundance of Hed Kandi (and other)albums over the years I am now importing them on to itunes to play through Apple t.v, and my only option is to go onto some web site such as play.com and drag and drop a low pixel version of the art work which then is diplayed on my 50" t.v in a blurred mess, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! there must be a decent web site out there that 'all you good good people' know about to give rest to this frustrating BEAST.
All the best Lance Murdoch..........when I'm not in traction I'm in action!

I have had this problem many times if Itunes cannot find the Artwork it never will trust me. Strange however that the new Version 8 picked up many more than the previous. The best way i found was have a look at this script at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=findalbumartwork this will load google images from safari and take the track information from itunes so you do not have to waste time typing then. For copyright issues i suggest you find information on what images you can or cant download from the relevant web sites.

  • How do I sync so that album art work in one library is copied over to another via home-sharing? Most of the artwork has been scanned and added by me.

I have three computers, each with its own iTunes Library, but if I add material to one, every few days I make sure that it's copied over to the others via homesharing.  However, some of the metadata does not transfer, specifically the album art work.  So on one library, call it my Home Library, everything is nice and tidy, with album artwork where it should be.  On the other two, all the albums I've painstakingly made sure are complete on the home library are missing the art work.
Any thoughts?  Tune Ranger and other iTunes maintenance apps don't seem to do the job, either. Coverscout, PowerTunes and Song Sargent also fail this task.

My understanding it iTunes handles artwork several ways.  First, iTunes keeps a copy of all artwork in its artwork folder.  Second, artwork can optionally be embedded in a media file.  You can, for example, have an album where no artwork is actually in the files but all use a reference copy in the artwork folder.  Even if a file has artwork embedded it may still use the version in the artwork folder.
Embedded artwork travels with the file when you copy the file.
I am hazy as to when exactly iTunes will embed artwork and when it won't.  I believe, for example, if you use iTunes to fetch artwork it will not embed it, it will just place a copy in the artwork folder.  Then too I never use iTunes to fetch artwork and I usually end up with artwork embedded in a file or two per LP (each embedded copy uses up more disk space).  Now, I still use iTunes 7.5 and new versions may not behave exactly the same.  If it was my version and I added artwork to a file it would embed it and it would transfer.  It sounds like your artwork isn't embedded even if you are adding it the same way I would (I drag mine to the little arwork display box in the bottom left corner of my window, which apparently has vanished completely in iTunes 11).
You could try this for a file:
Script for embedding artwork - http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=embedart
Just remember embedding artwork adds to each file size, so if you have 1000 files and you add 2 MB of high quality scans to each track you are taking up 2 GB more of drive space.

  • How to properly embed album art work into TV/Films itunes: home sharing lag

My setup is a simple apple home sharing network.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.4(4) it hosts a lot of music, DVD's that have been re-encoded and paid for content from itunes.
The mac mini is conntected to the network over a very good gigbit lan and has 4 apple TV3 (latest gen) hanging off the network, and multiple PC/Mac/ipod/ipad devices hanging off the network.
I connect to the itunes home sharing service with the apple TV service using the "remote" application on the ipad.
When I select Music/Albums TV Shows or Films from the menu of the itunes library the album art work loads (quickly) over the grey boxes as I scroll down. However this takes a few seconds for each "scroll" I do on the ipad (it has thousands of items in there).
The exception to the rule is any paid content, when I open Music/TV/Films menu on the ipad the paid content (especially for TV and Films) the artwork is already there, and doesn't have to load it.
How is the artwork for paid content contained differently than the artwork for content I've manually put into the itunes library.
If I look at the itunes library locally on the machine hosting the itunes data, the artwork is there straightaway, no loading, pull up the items info with "get info" and click on art work, the artwork is there, and I can see no different in the art work settings for paid content or for content I've manually updated/loaded an image for.
So why/how does the paid for content have artwork on the ipad the exact second I open it over the network, yet the non-paid for content take a few seconds per screen to load it.
Is there something different in how the art work is embeeded, or is it a caching setting ? whats the difference.

    Dang You Autocorrect.
You don't saw what size and resolution the embedded artwork is. This could be part of the issue. Artwork on movies you purchase from the iTunes Store is 667x1000 at 72 DPI so if yours is larger than this is could be causing the delay.

  • How can I add/change art work to albums where the art work isn't available at iTunes?

How can I add/change art work to albums where the art work isn't available at iTunes?

Go to google and search for the artwork.  When you find it, save it to your computer.  Right click the album and select get info.  Drag the image you saved to the empty box for album art.

  • I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Anyone have a solution?

I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Some songs won't play at all even though they do appear in the itunes store. The artwork almost always shows u blank until you turn it to landscape then it will appear. Anyone know what's going on?

I have found that scrolling through the album list (past albums without art) triggers the progress wheel next to the wifi symbol. You can scroll quickly through the whole collection and then wait! Artwork will appear gradually...
However, repeat visits to the Music App might initially show no artwork again, but it might spontaneously appear more quickly this time. The bad news is that the whole Music App is now sluggish as ****...

  • I can no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40

WHY can I no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40? It is maddening. I have checked many boards and discussion groups but no one has a sure fix. Why is Apple not tending to this problem? They of all groups should know the importance of how something looks.

I had the the same problem albeit with an m4v (same hardware and OS rev too!, iTunes 10.6.3). I was able to add the movie to a new library per Limnos' suggestion here, indicating that iTunes wasn't totally busted. However, I was also able to see the movie in the Recently Added smart playlist (another hat tip to Limnos), although it still did not appear in the Movies section of my iTunes library. (It was also in the iTunes Library.xml file.)
So I called AppleCare, and they directed me to move the file from the external drive where it was living, into the /Users/<Your Name Here>/Movies directory, and to "Add to Library" (Command-O) from that location. Sure enough (and much to my surprise), it showed up immediately (duplicated, actually) in the Movies section of my iTunes library. Subsequent additions to my Library have not misbehaved similiarly.

  • Just upgraded to IOS 8 with iPad air and no more art work with my video's.  Very disappointing!  I hope they fix it!

I regret upgrading to IOS 8 now because I cannot see the artwork for my video's.  That is the only reason I downloaded them through iTunes because I liked the way they displayed the art work of the video.  Now all I get is a gray box with the title in small letters below.  I hope they fix it.

    Windows 8 w/ version 12.1.1.4 and iOS 8.1.3
    Close iTunes
    1)  Plug in Device
    2)  Go to Device Manager/Portable Device
    3)  Right click- update driver
    4)  Browse my computer
    5)  Let me pick from list
    6)  Click Have Disk
    7)  Type in, or look for C:\Program Files
    8)  Go to Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device\Support Drivers
    9)  Dbl-CLick  "usbaapl" file  - let it do it's thing, until status bar is finished
Unplug Device- Open iTunes- plug in device- should work!
I had to do this for both my phones- 5 and 6

I don't think the list style transfers. Copy and paste the text in to Mail, select it and then choose "Insert Numbered List" as a work around.
