Artboard converted to guides? (CS4)

Hi,
I have an Illustrator file with several artboards which I created on a PC. When I open the same file on a Mac, all the artboards are converted into guides on a new layer called "Guides for Artboards". The same thing happens when I save the file on the Mac and bring it back onto the PC.
Is there any way to turn this feature off? It's really quite frustrating having to convert these guides to artboards everytime I open it on a different platform.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Trish

Hi Tricia
I know it's a bit late and you have probably fixed this by now, but I was having a similar problem and it was driving me nuts!
What I found to be the problem: any file that was created or saved in a previous version of illustrator - when I was duplicating artboards using the new CS4, I would save the file and close it. On reopening the file in CS4 only the first artboard was there - all other artboards had been converted to guidlines - highly annoying.
So get around it: either overwrite the file by doing a 'save as' choosing your ai and ensuring the illustrator version is CS4 that you overwrite with, or start a new CS4 file with the same sized artboard and copy and paste into the new one.
Probably a year and a bit too late! But you never know!
Cheers
Jamie

  • Is there a script to convert all guides to paths?

    Hello
I need access to AI guides in AfterEffects
shift+alt+ctrl double click doesn't always work.
Is there a script to convert all guides to paths?\
    Have I asked this before?!
    Tristan

    Don't you just want…?
    #target illustrator
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var paths = doc.pathItems;
    for ( var i = 0; i < paths.length; i++ ) {
        if ( paths[i].guides ) { paths[i].guides = false; }

  • Converting CS3 to CS4 Project

    I need to convert my CS3 project to a CS4 project- I need the OMF2 of CS4
Will use a PC version for both CS3 to CS4.
Does anybody know the steps to converting CS3 to CS4 in detail?
    Please.

Watch out for some of the filters and keyframing from within Premiere, as well was the 3rd party issues.
I've had problems in opening cs3 projects which have things like clips that combine time remapping and clip movements via keyframing that have not came through the same in CS4.  Also garbage mattes specifically seem to translate incorrectly and they have to be adjusted.
But if it's a simple cut to cut with a few dissolves, I don't see any major problems.  Skim through the timeline after the import/convert and make sure everything looks as it should.

  • Artboards disappearing in Illustrator CS4

I'm using Illustrator CS4 on Mac OSX 10.6 and have created a 12 page document for folks at work.
Every time I re-open the document to make amends all but the first artboard have disappeared.
All the artwork content is still there, layers are fine etc but where the outline of the artboard page was there are now only guides Which are added to a layed named 'Guides For Artboard'.
When I create a PDF of this file it only does the one, first page. It's like it doesn't realise the rest of the pages exist.
But this doesn't happen to every document. It keeps happening to this one, it's happened to others but then when I open them again later they are fine.
    Is this a bug??
This file was created new in CS4 and is only edited by myself on the same machine.
Any suggestions would save me some serious grief!!
    Ta

No it's saved as a CS4 ai file.
But that did get me wondering, so I saved it as a AI CS3 file and upon reopening that it's done the same thing, added guides where my artboards were.
That makes sense as CS3 doesn't support multiple artboards.
But I am saving all my artworks as CS4 files and it's doing this to some of them which is what I don't understand.
Just wondered if there was a setting i'd missed or something

  • Smart Guides CS4

I'm studying up on inDesign CS4 though Adobe TV.  Deke's tutorial on making a text frame shows the frame snaping to guidelines and margins.  The dimension arrows appear indicating the frame area is complete top to bottom, left to right.
My settings have snap to guides and smart guides both turned on (check mark).  However, the only time I see the dimensions arrows is when I snap to the edge of the page.
I'm snapping to guides and margins, but the arrows do not appear.  Am I missing a setting?

    I understand now.  Thanks!

  • Question about DNG converter in Bridge CS4

    Hello,
I just installed Photoshop CS4, When I updated, it downloaded a hefty update (199 megs), so my setup now is:
    Win XP pro
    Bridge 3.0.0.464
    Camera RAW 5.7
    Photoshop CS4 11.0.2
My Camera is a Panasonic Lumix FZ150 ( 2011 vintage)
I have downloaded the Adobe DNG converter 6.6.0.261
Every thing seems to be working fine so far, except:
In Bridge when I "get Photos from Camera" the DNG conversion doesn't work. When I use the standalone converter it works fine.
From reading past material on this forum I am assuming this is due to the fact that Bridge is older than my camera, and doesn't recognize the format.
    The questions:
    1. Does Bridge have its own built in DNG converter that is not upgradeable separately?
    2. If 1 is correct, is there a way to point Bridge to the location of the standalone converter so the work flow can be optimized.
    3. Since Bridge is not doing the conversion, but only importing the files, does the "Apply metadata" section of that window actually do anything? Should I bother to fill in any of those boxes?
    Thanks for any help.

I posted a similar question quite a while ago, and what I learned was that Bridge has a DNG converter built in, but it's using ACR to read the file before it can convert. So you need ACR support for your camera.
AFAIK there's no way to point Bridge to a standalone DNG converter.
I suggested an updateable DNG converter plugin for Bridge, don't know why nobody listened...I thought it was an excellent idea
As for the metadata, you just have to try. I don't know if it can write metadata when it can't read the file.

  • Image quality issue - PM7 file converted to ID CS4 file

    Hi
We have converted a Pagemaker 7 file to an InDesign CS4 file.
The issue we are having is that the quality of the images has dropped.
We are aware that this is a side effect of the conversion process.
We then tried to insert the original image file into the InDesign file but the quality is lacking.
Can anyone give any recommended settings for importing the images into ID without losing any quality?
    Cheers
    Jay

You may want to follow the recommendations about linked images in the InDesign Help file:
Before opening the document in InDesign, you may want to do the following:
If the PageMaker file or its linked graphics are located on a network server, floppy disk, or removable drive, it may not open as
expected if an interruption in data transfer occurs. To prevent data transfer problems, copy documents and their links to the
hard disk, preferably in the same folder where the PageMaker publication is stored, before opening them in InDesign.
You may want to use Save As in PageMaker to clear unnecessary hidden data.
To ensure that all links are maintained, copy all linked files to the same folder where the PageMaker publication is stored.
Make sure that all necessary fonts are available in InDesign.
Repair broken graphics links in the PageMaker publication.
If you have a problem converting a large PageMaker document, convert portions of the PageMaker file separately to isolate the
    problem.

  • Saving Artboards as gif files (CS4)

    Hello.
I juste finished a script for me to use with AI CS4.
As i didn't find it from the export menu or the save for the web and devices, i proposed it as a script. I know it's not well written cause i'm new to this, so if anyone wants to look at it, i just put it there at the photoshop sdk section (since i needed more stuff i didn't find)

    Thanx for watching.

Nevermind, it's in the second pane of the options.

  • Help converting files from CS4 to CS3

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has time to help me.  I live in Washington, DC and we're buried in snow up here (!), so I'm not able to go to work.  I can access my work files from home, but I only have ID CS3 at home (and CS4 at work).  I have 2 InDesign files that I really need to be able to work with in CS3.  Does anyone have time to save them to INX format for me?   I zipped them together into a file here:
    http://pjutter.com/CS4files.zip
I realize I'd lose some features, but it makes no difference.  One of those is just a template, and the other just has info I need in it.  If anyone can resave them for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Can't wait to get a new home computer...  Tried updating to CS4 on this one, but this machine's not up for it.
    Thanks, Phyllis

These work great, thank you so much!
So long as I only work on new stuff, I guess it doesn't matter if I switch to CS3.  :-)   I'll turn down requests for major edits to long documents already done in CS4!
We have 2 feet of snow on the ground here and are expecting 10-20 more inches of snow starting around noon!  DC is basically shut down.  I live right in the middle of the District, and the roads are a mess here.  I can't imagine how bad the suburbs are.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I convert a indesign cs4 document to a cs3 or cs3?

Also is there a way to get indesign cs3 or cs2 for free or free trial?

Menu File, choose Export, choose file type "CS3 Interchange (INX)" ... (now doesn't that sound obvious?).
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Also is there a way to get indesign cs3 or cs2 for free or free trial?
For free!? The older trial versions are not anymore available via the official Adobe channels. Perhaps a google could help.

  • CS4 CS5 converted project = audio error

    Anyone come across this:
I have a project that was converted from After Effects CS4 to CS5, that shows the following strange behaviour in CS5:
The comps contain layers that consist of AIFF audio files. When doing an audio preview (.) or a RAM preview, the audio does not play the part of the AIFF file that, according to the time-code, it should play. It starts where it should, but then suddenly it skips a few seconds to another part of the AIFF. All that while the red indicator bar suggests it is still playing lineair as it should (the red line does not "skip" to another point.
This leaves me with an unworkable situation, as it is quite unpredictable which part of the audio will play right...
As far as i can tell this behaviour only happens with a converted project (CS4 > CS5) in After Effects.
But when I started a new project in Premiere Pro I got the same skipping audio with a totally new project!
Converted back to CS4 for now.

The After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update is available:

This update should address this issue. After you've installed the update, please let us know whether it works for you.

  • Converting CS4 in CS3 - loss of structure

I have experienced the following problems by converting a Illustrator CS4 file into the CS3 format: If the downgraded document is opened by a CS3 user, radial gradients which are compressed and/or rotated will be combined in a pixel-array and aren't any longer editable. If the gradient is in a group, all other elements within are compressed too and are reduced to one layer. It's a virtual disaster! Especially with a view to nonstandard-colours (PANTONE) that are used in my gradients and that will be converted into pixel-images! Does anybody experienced same problems and have a workaround? I have to save full editable CS3 files for further processing.
In addition to this I recognized that some tabs in text fields will be placed on the wrong position and some text fields are jumping on the plumb line.
I thought that CS4 is using the same text-engine as CS3. That doesn't suit my plans! Can anybody help?

Normal behavior. Since the gradient tool in CS4 has more or less been redone from scratch, this is to be expected.

  • Premiere CS4 Cineform HDV to SD down convert

Has anyone tried http://cineform.blogspot.com/2008/12/mastering-24p-dvds-from-hd-using.html using Premiere CS4 and Cineform Neo Scene? In my tests the down converted Cineform SD file was corrupt. The clip only plays the first few frames and the preview goes black. Anyone had success with Cineform HDV to SD down converts with Premiere CS4?

Maybe you'll be so kind as to point me where on Cineform's site they say any of there products are CS4 compatible?
Everywhere I see they say CS4 coming "late January" or "by Febuary".
    http://www.cineform.com/products/NeoScene.htm
"* CS2 and CS3 are currently supported. CS4 support will be available in February 2009"
    and this
    http://www.cineform.com/products/Prospect.htm
"Until the time we release Prospect HD for CS4 (around the end of January 2009), all Aspect HD customers may upgrade to Prospect HD for $199 at our online store. All upgrades prior to our release for CS4 will be to Prospect HD v3. All PHD v3 upgrades will also come with a free upgrade to Prospect HD v4 (late January) that will support CS4."

  • Convert CS3 XMP Panels to work with CS4

I have a series of custom XMP panels which we wrote to work with CS3. Now that we are about to migrate the balance of our users to CS4 and shortly everyone to CS5, I see that these panels no longer work. What is the easiest way to migrate these panels.
    Thanks in advance,
    Morgan

    Hi,
we have made an experimental java tool to convert CS3 to CS4/5 panels.
Please find it attached and try it out if you like -- but I can offer no warranty :-)
Note that the approach is limited when it comes to the layout of the panel.
You need to adjust the generated MXML code.
    It works as follows:
    1. Find your CS3 panel (a txt file) and can call
    java -jar EvePanelConverterApp.jar {Eve Input File} {MXML Output File}
The tool converts the panel based on an EVE (ZEVE) definition to an MXML file.
    2. Use the XMP FileInfo SDK, create a new panel project using the "Custom Panel Wizard" and stuff the generated MXML file into it.
    3. Adjust the design, compile and deploy.
Please let me know, if it worked for you or if you have questions or problems.
