Artifacting in DVDSP 4 and G5

I have a Dual processor 1.8GHz G5 with 2.5GB of RAM running 10.4.2
I have done all updates from software update.
I am using raw capture files from FCP 5 (Not exported, just grabbed them from the capture scratch).
My DVDSP Preferences are set like this:
4:3
Feild Order TOP (As I have been instructed before for ccapture over firewire)
Two Pass VBR
Bit Rate: 4.0
Max Bit Rate: 7.0
Motion Estimation: Best
Encode on Build
I need to get this DVD out tommorow to a client and I cannot send it like this. It is not all the time, just little bvits and pieces of video go blocky. This happens with all 8 videos going on the DVD (All different source tapes). There is one video that is 15 seconds, and it has one block throughout, this is the best one.
Please help!

I am not using Compressor, everything is being done in DVDSP for the compression.
I have burned numerous DVD's in the past with the same bit rate and less information without issues, and if it cannot handle 968mb of data would I trust that bit rate with 4GB worth!
I have put some screen captures online for you to check out (Sorry I screwed up the capture in a rush and only got the corners, but it still shows you what is happening). These are all from the first 2min video (I could have gotten more, but trying to pause in the right spot is hard and I have a bunch of work today)
http://pyramidproductions.tv/breakup/
The only thing I can think of is that they were captures from BetaSP via a Sony DVMC-DA2 over firewire, though the source files have no problems.
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks
Kray

  • How do I delete DVDSP and iDVD themes & template?

    Can someone point me to the folders where the DVDSP and iDVD 3 & 4 themes and templates are located? They were installed from the Final Cut Studio 5.1 discs, but there's no uninstall option.
    I don't want to delete anything important. Just the "extras" that were installed along with DVDSP. Even though I want these files gone now, I still want the ability to reinstall them from the FCP 5.1 Suite sometime in the future.
    Thank you.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Best move is to move them to an external you can point to them if needed
    Library->AppSupport-iDVD (have not tried moving them you may want to leave some in do not know if it affects iDVD)
    MHD>Library>appsupport>dvdsp>apple>templates
    Take a look here at this thread for some info (same info but it shows how to point to templates)

  • IDVD appears to produce better "hi-def to DVD" than DVDSP and Compressor.

    For the last 4 years I have used DVDSP and Compressor to burn DVDs from my HDV and AVCHD/ProRes 422 projects but have always been plagued by the well known less than perfect results.
    For some reason creating DVDs from HD material results in slightly lower quality than when using standard def media.
    Artefacts such as double-lining and aliasing have been discussed at length in the forums and weird and wonderful time-consuming solutions such as the Bonsai technique have been proposed.
    Recently I had reason to go back to iDVD and to my surprise the video quality appeared to be better than DVDSP's.
    Gone were the minor but  irritating artefacts I had become accustomed to.
    Instead I now get sharp smooth images.
    It's still early days and I don't know whether the results are due to the idiosyncracies of my editing/burning setup. The DVDs were played in both a Panasonic BD player together with a Panasonic DVD player and viewed on a Sony 40" HDTV connected with HDMI cables.
    Maybe if anybody has a few spare moments between projects they could test it out.
    Note that I have only tested this with iDVDs "Best Performance" setting which is suitable for DVDs up to 65 minutes long.

    Ian,
    I'm not sure you need another voice in this conversation…but here's my 2 cents.
    While I agree that iDVD can do a very good job of encoding HD to DVD specs, I can't think of any reason why it should be superior to Compressor. In fact, my experience has been the opposite; I get somewhat better (cleaner) results using Compressor and DVDSP. The principal reason is I can start with my saved presets and then  – like Michael mentioned…take a small test section and make adjustments if I see something that I don't like.
    As for scaling, I do it first, then I make the MPEG as a separate step, (There was a recent thread about this questioning whether this added any value. No mater; it's the way I do it unless I don't have time.)
    Good luck.

  • DVDSP and Live Type

    I have a Menu Background created in Live Type that has some text effects and a texture background. I imported the Live Type file (.ipr) to DVDSP, set it as my menu background and added a "Play Video" button. In Live Type when you "play" the file its sharp, clear and fonts are smooth. When I play the Menu created with this file in DVDSP, the fonts are all "jiggy-jaggy" in both the viewer and the simulator.
    Live Type file was created with NTSC 4:3 as the preference preset
    DVDSP is set at NTSC and 4:3 display mode
    I am at a loss as to how to correct this so the menu will display the same in both apps. I am new to FCSPro - so bear with me if this is something simple and stupid!
    iMac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Neither simple nor stupid...
    Try exporting the footage out of live type as a .mov file and using that as your menu background. You can then add the 'Play' button and when the disc is built it should all get encoded to MPEG2.
    I think the issue is how the live type file is being read - I have certainly been in the same position before and found that by using .mov from LT it all seemed much better.
    You could also add the 'Play Video' text to the background in LT, then use a simple overlay made in photoshop to give you a button highlight (a single button on a menu will be selected by default as the menu plays, so the highlight would always show). If you do this then you can use QT to encode the background footage to MPEG2 and then use that as your menu... don't add any other items from the palette though, or else the background footage will get encoded a second time by DVDSP and look pretty bad.

  • Graphical artifacts with DX11 (and OGL4) on imac 27" late 2012 GTX 675 MX

    Hello, dear community! I have the imac 27" late 2012 with graphical card GTX 675 MX.
    In Mac OS X 10.8.5 all works perfect. Software, games (Bioshock Infinity), benchmarks (heaven 4.0). But in windows...
    I was installed Windows 8, then 7, then 8 again, and every time after installing nvidia drivers (with BootCamp, or manually downloaded from nvidia site) i have some graphical artifacts ("||" randomly on the screen). On win 7 it was only in games (like Bioshock Infinity or Tomb Raider), on win 8.1 everywhere(on desktop and in games). In DX9 games (like World Of Tanks) all perfect, in DX10/11 games (BI or TR) - artifacts. After thousend of tests i run Heaven Unigine 4.0 with OpenGL(other settings the same) in macos and in windows(on 7 and on 8), for checking some hardware issue if it exists. But on mac os x, as i already said, all is perfect, but on windows - randomly appers artifacts.
    I record a video to illustrate my problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwEog66vfFk&feature=youtu.be
    Help me please! People in service told me that this is not a guarantee issue

    I assume you have GPU-Z and other tools to look at gpu. the imac falls between notebooks and desktops when it comes to graphics. and it may be some programs just are not written for that graphic device? possibly?
    I've been on Windows 8.1 mostly along with 8.0 and graphic drivers have been "bumpy road" at times and I was able to swap out and use different graphic cards on my PC - had me thinking I had an SSD related issue, then replaced memory (those were bad it turned out, and could have caused drivers and system errors).
    Windows has memtest on the DVD and I have seen one or three people with real problems that did not show up until they did more tests, even though Mac OS was blindly oblivious to anything being wrong (it was, they upgraded RAM and SO-DIMM was not fully seated in one case, in another the RAM module had to be replaced).
    Extended Tests using Apple Hardware Test is not conclusve and almost never ever when comes to finding gpu or memory 'errors.' There you are better with Windows test utility.

  • Color artifacts with A7s and A6000 files using Camera calibration profiles

    I'm seeing some really obvious chroma artifacts / false colors with RAW files from either a Sony A7s or A6000 when using any of the Adobe-provided Camera calibration profiles that emulate Sony's rendering.
    This seems to happen at any ISO, and is very frequent.
    If I use the Adobe Standard calibration profile then things look normal, but that's might just be because it produces rather desaturated images compared to the "sony" profiles.
    Prior to those Sony cameras I was using Nikon DSLRs for which I had somewhat similar issues when using the first version of the Nikon camera profiles.
    Those issues got fixed when Adobe released the "v4" camera profiles.
    Below are some examples without any adjustment, the only difference is the choice of camera calibration profile:
    Camera Landscape:
    Adobe Standard:
    Camera Standard:
    Adobe Standard:
    Camera Landscape:
    Adobe Standard:

    The legacy ACR X.x profiles are no more produced nor included for newer cameras (AFAIK, since ACR 5.1/LR 2.1). The Adobe Standard is the new default starting point for these.
    While I am at it....are the Canon camera profiles I downloaded for the 1Ds MKII the same as for the 5D MKII or do I have to download different one...I suspect they are the same or Lightroom wouldn't offer them to me...is that correct?
    The profiles are different for each camera model, even if they share the same name in the Calibration panel. If you can see them when developing 5DII files, it means the camera-specific profiles are installed for your particular camera model (otherwise, you wouldn't see them).

  • Artifacts on effects and export with Premiere Pro CC

    Premiere Pro CC is producing video artifacts whenever I add in effects or transitions. Also appears in exports. I don't know if it's due to the codecs I'm using or low bit rates, but I've never had this problem till I moved from a PC to Mac.

    Emily -
    Are you using a new Mac Pro?  Have you seen this thread, by chance?  Your image looks very similar to what the rest of us have seen.  If so, the current supported solution is to disable hardware acceleration for MPE until Apple officially releases OS X 10.9.4.  An unsupported solution is to sign up for Apple's beta program, and install the 10.9.4 beta.

  • Artifacts between Logo and Vertical Menu Bar

    See http://www.ottawapatentagency.com
    Artifact #1: a light grey dot at the joint between the logo and the vertical menu bar, on the right hand side.
    Artifact #2: on mouse over 'Home' - the top menu item of the vertical menu bar - there appears a light-colored, 1-pixel separation between the logo and the vertical menu bar.
    The logo is a standard gif and the vertical menu bar is a standard spry menu bar, I am puzzled.
    Anyone has a solution?

    You could try adding the following code above your closing </head> tag:
    <!--[if IE]>
    <style>
    UL.MenuBarVertical:after
        content: ".";
        display: block;
        height: 0;
        clear: both;
        visibility: hidden;
        font-size: 0;
    UL.MenuBarVertical
        display: inline-block;
    UL.MenuBarVertical{
        display: block;
        -height: 1px;
    </style>
    <![EndIf]-->
    Also, it looks like you need to add closing brackets to the following two lines:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"
    <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"

  • ARTIFACTS AFTER LOG AND TRANSFER! please help!

    i was given a p2 card to log and transfer. after my first attempt to log and transfer, the sound was way out of sync and the video was strobing. then i deselected the option to remove advanced pulldown and drop frames from the settings preferences. i then log and transfered again and this seemed to fix the initial problems. however, now my clips have artifacts every few seconds that look like little patches of random colors. what are these and how can i fix them. any help is greatly appreciated. thanx.

    In the L&T window...play the footage. Can you see them there? If you don't have P2CMS from Panasonic, download it and use it to view the footage. See if this break up is on the original footage.
    I have seen this, but it appeared on the master footage.

  • Subtitles for both DVDSP and Final Cut

    I have a few questions about subtitles. I would like to make subtitles for both Final Cut and DVDSP for the same clip. I already have most of the titles layed out in DVDSP, typed straight into the program. Is there a way to export the subtitle track and bring it into Final Cut? Or do I have to do them over again in Final Cut? Or should I start over with a subtitle program (any suggestions here would be helpful)?
    Also, is there a way to copy and paste subtitles from one track to another?

    If your resolution is truly 1920x1080 (that is to say, you're not working with HDV for another format that really uses 1440x1080), then you want square pixels all the way. Uncheck FCP's anamorphic setting.

  • Ge4600Ti "artifacts" in BIOS and WinXP

    I have just setup a new system. I took my Ge4600 out of my old P4 system (no past problems working fine). Put it in my new system (875P Neo) and now my display is corrupted both in POST, BIOS and WinXP (redraw problems in XP, wrong letters in BIOS, artifacts in POST). The system runs fine with my old RIVA in it.
    I then put the Ge4 back in my old sytem (no HD installed) and the POST screen shows the same problems. Im pretty sure I didnt damage it removing/installing. I did remove a lot of dust which had clogged the HSF.
    Any suggestions? Should I continue to try other drivers? When installing the latest Detonator I get a Stop Error (Blue Screen). Is my card damaged?

    It doesn't look good
    But from your explanation I see that the problem started when you moved the card and then the problem followed to another system. You have basically answereed your own question by following the technique I would have used by trying it in another rig. Yes I think the card was somehow damaged by either static discharge or a small surface mount device such as a transistor, resistor or capacitor may have fallen off during handling, hard to say.

  • Auto deploy of ALSB/OSB artifacts - Proxy, WSDL and webservices...

    Would like to know if there are any leads on how to automate the deployment of artifacts within OSB in an automated manner using WLST or any other method

    Hi,
    One can use offline WLST scripts for automated deployment. The script (python scripts) can be invoked using Ant. In summary, the steps are:
    1. Copy the relevant files in a folder (preferably <DOMAIN_HOME>). The files are
    a. import.py: The actual python script that does the deployment process
    b. import.properties: A properties file used by the import script. It contains information about the deployment jar file (sbconfig.jar), any customization file, host and port information of the OSB server and credential information
    c. sbconfig.jar(Or any other name): OSB deployable artifacts bundled using the editor or exported from another OSB environment
    d. build.xml: Defines the import task executed by ant
    e. OSB customization xml file
    2. Open a command prompt (Windows environment), navigate to <DOMAIN_HOME>/bin and execute setDomainenv.bat
    3. Additionally add the follwing jar files to the classpath. These files are used by the APIs used in the python script. These were not needed prior to the 3.0 version of OSB (ALSB). The files are: +<BEA_HOME>/modules/com.bea.common.configfwk_1.1.0.0.jar+ and +<OSB_HOME>/lib/sb-kernel-api.jar+
    4. Using the same command prompt, navigate to the folder where the files in step 1 had been placed and exeute the import task using ant (something like ant import)
    Plese find a sample of the import.py, build.xml and import.properties files as follows:

  • Drawing artifacts in Firefox and Thunderbird after installing MSI AMD R6850 graphics card

    After installing new graphics card (MSI R6850 CYCLONE 1GD5 PE/OC), latest drivers on WinXP 32bit, I'm experiencing frequent drawing artifacts with Mozilla Firefox 8.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0. The problem represents itself either as horizontal black stripes or scattered color checker pattern. It happens especially when switching from other application to Firefox or Thunderbird or when swiching from child window (like Download Manager) to Firefox. It affects either whole application or just some rectangular region (clearly region which was redrawn due to application switching). Next repaint (like switch between Firefox tabs) usually fixes the problem. It is just visual issue, behavior is not affected. The problem never happened to any other application till now. Any ideas? Anyone experienced same problem? Thanks in advance.
    Zbynek
    P.S. Here are the screenshots for both problems:
    http://astrofoto.euweb.cz/tmp/black_stripes.jpg
    http://astrofoto.euweb.cz/tmp/color_boxes.jpg

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver that fixes these problems.

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9786956
    and have a remaining question. i looked at the m2v file in
    mpeg streamclip and i see:
    Video Tracks:
    224 MPEG-2, 720 × 480, 4:3, 23.976 fps, 7.70 Mbps, upper field first
    is the 'upper field first' just a flag to tell how to deal with
    this file? or is it stating that the file is interlaced with the
    upper field first?
    the intent is to make a progressive dvd at 23.976. the original
    material is film, captured and edited at 23.976, progressive. the
    material was captured off of an old projector, a frame at a time,
    with a digital still camera, so the original has no interlacing
    or fields. this went to make an image sequence, which was rendered
    to a qt movie at 23.976, also progressive, no fields. it was then
    output through compressor to the m2v file which produced the mpeg
    streamclip stream info dialog quoted above.
    thanks,
    BabaG

    Yes, it's just a flag.

  • T61 display artifacts (blue stripes and red shadowing), external monitor is fine

    Hello everyone!
    I have a Lenovo T61 laptop that's just (in March) ran out warranty and obviously developed peculiar single-pixel-level artefacts. Now I know that these kind of problems are generally solved by buying a new laptop, but I'm not convinced that this isn't a software problem. Given below are my observations, so, engineering minds, let's unite and please help me solve this.
    Relevant specs:
    OS: Windows XP SP3 & Ubuntu 11.04
    GPU: Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (version 266.58)
    TFT Panel: 1440x900
    The big problem:
    White display areas have every other column in cyan (Image A), black areas have red shadowing (Image B). The artefacts are present in both OS and in the BIOS screen as well (which is really bad, I know). Red and cyan is both due to the red channel, so we can narrow this down, other colours are displayed fine.
    The PECULIARITY of this artefact is that it is only present for:
    Cyan columns - pixel values above 247
    Red shadowing - pixel values below 4 (And I mean EXACTLY those values, value of 4 - no artefacts, value of 5 - completely unbearable. See Image C, where this display is photographed while showing two patterns with only that slight variation is pixel values. Patterns are attached as D)
    Middle gray (value 127) causes flickering, while 128 is perfectly fine.
    Solutions tried so far:
    Reinstalling GPU drivers - no avail
    Setting display contrast to < 35% in Nvidia control panel - artefacts dissappear nearly completely.
    I've never heard of such a thing, but since the causing values are so exact I can't believe that this is just fried panel or a broken cable.
    So what do You think?
    Regards,
    Lukas

    Welcome to the forum!
    Your GPU is failing.
    Lenovo might or might not fix it, although it's out of warranty. They are *extremely* well-aware of the problem that plagued these chips.
    Reading related threads here or on Bill Morrow's ThinkPad Forum will reveals hundreds - if not thousands - of similar cases...
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George
