Artifacting Issue

I have created a chromeless AIR app that has maximized and
minimized state. When the animation occurs to either minimize or
maximize the player i get artifacting on the desktop. I have the
movieclips defined as movieclips, i have them set to bitmap cache
but nothing seems to help.
Any help will would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have this problem too. I'm 99% sure its just a driver/software issue as i cannot get it to show up under XP in Bootcamp. It also only happens in WoW.
I chalk it up to Apple and Blizzard both trying to get the best performance out of the hardware/software and that has led to some occasional bug.
On the plus side, it seems to fix itself after a bit.

  • DVD player artifact issue on certain player only

Can anyone tell me please why this is happening!!
I'm nearly finished with a documentary project. It's 64 minutes long. I used the DVD 90 minute Best settings with Dolby audio in Compressor and DVDSP build and burn. It works fine in the simulator in DVDSP and in my home and office DVD player. But my client gave me six pages of notes reporting what she called "skipping". I re-tested the DVD in my player and still wasn't seeing an issue. So I watched it on her player and noticed some artifacting and dropped frames.
I thought it might be due to a dirty player. So I had her do a cleaning and there will still some issues though not as many.
    Why would this happen?
I'm concerned because if I cannot even see the problem on my players, how will I know if I've solved it? I've searched the forums and found similar questions, but nothing exactly like this.
Grateful for any help you can provide:)

There are MANY reasons why certain players skip and others do not. Some players by nature are better designed to play DVD-R. Some are simply more forgiving. While one player happily plays over problem areas, others choke.
Most of the times, the problem results from poor quality DVD-R media. There are actually 4 different grades A, B, C & F! You should ONLY be using A grade media.
Those cheap 100 disc $19.99 spindles at the local Costco, Wal-mart etc., may sound like a deal, however, most are useful only as drink coasters and even when a disc gets recorded to what may seem to be correct, in actuality, is not.
Surf to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm for more details on which media you should be using.
Are you by any chance using a PAPER LABEL on the disc? If so, STOP. Buy printable surface media ONLY. Invest in a Bravo printer and you won't go wrong.
Many players do not handle media well with a paper label on it.
Finally, make sure you're burning a 1X (yes I said ONE TIMES) speed! Errors will creep up in quick burns that will also result in problems.
If you are doing everything right, it could be her player!
    Regards,
    Darren

  • Camera RAW pixel artifact issue

This is something that has been bothering me for a while and I don't understand how other people don't see it.. Mainly due to the fact that you need to be zoomed in about 300% or more on an image to see it. I have only seen Lightroom 3 rendered jpeg files without this problem. I am talking about the absurdly weird artifacts in the pixel makeup when zoomed in on a edited image rendered by Adobe Camera raw 5.6 and lower. It looks like worms have been moving around under all the pixels. It is not a clean and definate pixel noise ratio that you would get from rendering images from their native software for example ViewNX, Capture NX nor Canon's DPP.

    1. Do you see the worms in LR/ACR too, in this magnification, or only in the JPEG version?
    2. Do you see them in a TIFF as well?
    3. If they are not there in TIFF: create a JPEG from the TIFF. I guess LR too has a "preview" option, showing the effect of conversion in the image in the currently displayed magnification. Change the "quality" setting and watch for the effect (you have to wait a bit to see the effect of the change). If I do this in CS3, the worms are there up to quality 8, most of them vanish with 9 and it is clean from 10.
If the worms are visible already during the raw processing, i.e. in LR/ACR, then it is a different issue, probably camera dependent.

    Hi Ram,
If you were deploying the artifacts using AID, make sure that the AIDInstallerProperties.xml is properly configured with password/server details for the involved system(s).
During deployment time, AID gets server details from that file and connects to it.
Else, retry configuring this xml file using AIA's config.sh

A cooling problem to be precise.
To make sure u can underclock it with riva tuner. If the artifacts and imperfactions are gone then, keep it at that speed, or get a aftermarket cooler, like this one:

  • MSI 6970 Lightning - artifacts issue

    Hello,
Yesterday I received my MSI 6970 Lightning and today I installed a few games to try and see how it performs.
Everything works as expected until you start stressing it with some of the newer, heavier games and/or benchmarks.
I took some pictures to show what I mean that you can view at:
    http://dev.nixit.nl/artifacts/
It's running at default speeds and I tried the latest drivers from MSI as well as the latest official AMD/ATI drivers and v12.1
Other information that may be relevant:
    motherboard: evga x58 sli
    PSU: 1000w cooler master
    ram: 12gb ocz ddr3 1600
hdds: 2x74gb raptors (heh, oldies I know), 2x750
Any ideas? I mean, I know that I can probably downclock it but come on it should run at its advertised speeds at least, right?
Is this a known issue? If any other information is required to solve this please do ask I'll be here checking for updates!
    Thanks in advance

You should read this thread and specifically regarding the switches on the back of the card. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=150708.0
These are the switches that should ONLY be operated by professional overclockers under controlled circumstances.
Mainly because these switches remove precautionary measures from graphics cards to allow them to deliver the highest levels of performance.
These switches can be found on the back and the side of the card and have several functions:
    Quote
BIOS Switch, run with the normal Lightning BIOS or a special sub-zero version
Please check this switch, i.e. the position its in. Ensure  that it is in the "Normal position".
Then the following switches are best left alone, but just check.
    Quote
    Xtreme Cool :
Removes coldbug (boot at sub-zero temperatures!) on N580GTX Lightning
Increases the AMD Powertune limit by 250% on R6970 Lightning
    Quote
    Increase Memory and GPU Voltages
    PWM clock tuning:
Increases the PWM frequency from 260 to 310 MHz on the N580GTX Lightning
Increases the PWM frequency from 300 to 350 MHz on the R6970 Lightning
    Increase PLL voltage
Remove Overcurrent Protection (warning, this WILL burn your card easily if you're not careful!)

  • MSI Gaming N770 TF 2GD5/OC display artifact issues.

Hello gurus of all things msi! My latest question has to do with my shiney new gtx 770 which is performing flawlessly up until it hits ~55 c then memory artifacts start displaying like I have the frequency set too high.
This is running it with no tweaks or using the msi gaming app to overclock it so I fired up afterburner and kombustor to see what was up.
After letting kombustor run a bit the temps started to rise but so did the tpd which instantly hit 97% on kombustor launch then pegged at 100% right as it was nearing the 55~60 c range then the artifacts started to appear.
So is this bad memory/gpu/etc or is my psu insufficient to drive the card? I'm leaning towards insufficient power as it has plenty of amps on the 12v rail(50amps) but maxes out at 630 watts and the minimum rated supply needs 600 watts.
A related question is I had to manually set the fan to increase in speed as the temps rose as the built in fan speed control wasn't actually increasing the fan speed as the gpu heated up so might this also be an issue?
I can supply screen shots and logs if needed.

Welp turns out it was leftover driver bits from back when I first built the system and used the intel integrated just to see how it worked.(which btw is actually quite well as long as you are not into serious gaming)
Was pulling my hair out in frustration as I had plenty of power after adding up all the wattages figures for my devices and the fact as long as I underclocked the card it ran without issues.
Then I decided to try a complete driver wipe and googled up ddu and ran it and noticed the intel driver still loaded up somehow so deleted them along with everything else and ran a fresh install of the latest nvidia drivers and now all is well.
So if any of you users are having odd problems you don't think you should be having keep at it till you figure it out.

  • Exported Animation Horizontal Artifacts Issue

    Hey guys,
I recently tried to export an animated project roughly 45 seconds in FCE and no matter what compressor I use I continue to get dancing horizontal lines on part of the animated ship in the movie. The imported file however does not have these lines and is a crisp copy. I'm working on a G5 Power PC and I'm using FCE version 3.5.1. Anyone have any suggestions to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

    Hi Nick.
Can't be sure what the problem is without seeing it, but it sounds like an interlaced induced flicker.
Try the Flicker or Deinterlace filters. You may have to use them at their maximum setting.
You really need to have a TV connected to your Mac so that you can see any video nasties like that whilst you are editing - usually they don't show up on a computer monitor.

  • Another GTX 580 Twin Fozr DX11 green artifact driver reset issue

    Hello there.
I just had a new computer built for me, and I am getting the green artifact issue that so many people seem to be having. These are my computer specs:
    CPU: Intel i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz OC'd to 3.9
    MB: Gigabyte z68x-UD3H-B3
GPU: MSI Twin Fozr GTX 580, set at factory OCs
    PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750HX
Memory: 2x Kingston 4GB HyperX RAM
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
    2x 24" LG Flatron monitors
I only ever have these issues when playing games like World of Warcraft, or the new Deus Ex Human Revolution with DX11 enabled. When disabled the games run fine. I have tried many solutions I have found on this forum, and none of them have worked. I have tried just about every driver available, I have reduced the GPU clocks to reference clock speeds, I have tried increasing the voltage of the GPU, nothing works.
One thing I did notice, while trying to play WoW with Afterburner open on my second display that it is easily running up to 99% GPU usage. Usually it is around this time the artifacts appear and the driver gets reset.
Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated. I am very frustrated as this is a brand new machine, brand new card, and I'm having more trouble running games in DX11 than my previous 5 year old computer with a AMD 5850 in it. I didn't drop €420 on a card to be dealing with these issues.

Alternative you can use Windows based flasher: [read the caution]
with Nvidia Flash Tool[under windows]: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2005/.html
command line to take a VBIOS backup:
    nvflash.exe -b org.rom [ENTER]
command line to flash your VBIOS from cmd:
    nvflash.exe -4 -5 -6 mybios.rom [ENTER]
    Where:
org.rom is the name of your original VBIOS
mybios.rom is the name of your VBIOS, you can replace it if needs with your name,
but file extension must end to .rom [etc: another example: mybios.rom or similar]
    Before start flashing your VBIOS:
     * Close all applications that are currently running and can be closed!
     * Close especially any Antivirus Scanners and any other resident scanners!
Those steps are need to prevent and avoid VBIOS update interruption.
DO NOT TURN OFF OR REBOOT MACHINE DURING THE FLASH PROCESS!!!!!

  • Possible solution for white C2D iMacs with screen artifacts or lines

I have a white 20" Core 2 Duo iMac with the famous screen artifacts issues. Screen tearing, horizontal lines, goofy pixels, you name it. From my research it seems there are countless others with these problems.
I tried running the SMC fan control app to boost fan speeds. This helped a little, but did not completely solve the issue. A lot of people think these issues are related to heat, and I agree, but only partially. When a graphics chip overheats it is eventually damaged. I have damaged my share of graphics chips while overclocking them in my PCs. In the case of my iMac and maybe plenty of others, I still have issues if the GPU is hot or cold.
I installed WinXP using bootcamp. I finally found an application which will change the clock speed of the GPU on the fly. The X1600 GPU in my iMac has a 475Mhz core speed and 500Mhz memory speed. I cut these down to 400Mhz on the core and 400Mhz on the memory. At these lower speeds I no longer have any issues with screen tearing, horizontal lines, or random crashing. I do still have a few wierd pixels here and there, but they are not all that noticeable and I can live with them.
Now for the fun part. I wanted to permanently fix these speeds into my GPU so when I boot back to Mac OS X, I don't have any issues, and I no longer have to boost fan speeds or run any additional apps. I spent most of today taking apart my iMac, putting DOS on a spare SATA hard drive, and running an external monitor while booting my iMac with the spare drive hanging out the side. All this so I can run ATIflash, and use it to dump an image of the GPU BIOS ROM file.
Well, I ended up finding out the ATI GPU has no ROM to flash. My best guess is open firmware or something like that passes this data on to the GPU when the system boots.
So, in my case slowing the GPU down significantly reduced my problems while running within windows. I am 100% confident slowing the GPU down will also improve issues within Mac OS X, but I have no way to pull this off.
If Apple reads this, or if anyone has any connections at Apple, can we please get an optional firmware update to reduce the speeds of the X1600 GPU? It won't fix all the iMacs with these issues, but it will fix quite a few, and for those out there who don't have any issues at all with their white C2D iMacs, lowering the GPU speeds will most likely prevent damage from inevitably occurring, keeping them a happy customer.
Now, some of you may not like the idea of a slower GPU, but if I have to pick between a slower GPU and an $800 logic board, I will take the slower GPU any day.

There is a little easier Way to Navigate in Doing an F.D.R. than that Method: I listed it here if you prefer going this Route..

  • Artifacting in Motion.  Sample project, and a request for help inside.

Would anyone be willing to download this Motion project and see if any artifacting occurs, either on playback or export? I'm on an original 2.66 quad macpro with a x1900 GPU. i've had the entire system checked out by apple, and clean installed everything and this issue still persists. i'm just curious everything the same if the issue shows up on anyone else's system with a similar configuration.
after opening motion it takes about 2x times looped through or just randomly scrubbed before the artifacts start to appear.
here's the link, it's got the motn source .mov zipped up and a sample of the artifacting issue as well as a screen cap from openGL monitor that shows some interested parameters jumping around when artifacting occurs.
    http://file.meyersproduction.com/motion/3.16.08/
I copy and pasted what I sent to motion's feedback page below.
    thanks
    austin
"issue: artifacting in motion when building/exporting multi layer projects with video with fx's and masks applied (about 13 layers with 1 mask and primatte rt turned on causes artifacting). Link to samples of .motn and .mov below.
background: this is occurring on a clean install of os x 10.5 as well as a clean install of 10.4. this computer has spent a week at the apple store getting run through hardware diagnostics and came back with a clean bill of health. after reinstalling and building fresh projects the same artifacting immediately reoccurred.
other notes: I have run the OpenGL monitor while playing back and exporting in motion and artifacts always coincide with a huge spike in the "Texture Page Off Data (Non-AGP)" parameter, there are also lessor spikes in "CPU wait for GPU" but those are not always indicative of an artifact.
I also have a nvidia 7300 gpu installed and it handles any and all motn files flawlessly (albeit soooo much slower)
I have had similar issues since purchasing this system over a year ago.
I would sincerely appreciate any kind of communication other than "reinstall your system and FCS 2"
below is a link to a motn project and video asset, as well as a openGL screencap and exported movie with artifacts
    http://file.meyersproduction.com/motion/3.16.08/"

Personally, I think the problem is related to Leopard. I too have been getting artefacts in Motion 3 projects with masking since installing Leopard. Like Austin's experience, the artefacts do not appear at first after launching Motion but emerge fairly fast.
Deleting the mask(s) gets rid of the problem but I kind of wanted to be able to use masks in my Motion projects! I had been doing so without problems in Motion 3 but with OS X Tiger. In case you were wondering, I have also reinstalled Motion and Final Cut since installing Leopard following advice on other threads.
I don't think the issue is hardware-related, though I appreciate that my projects are very demanding for the system I have. Other more demanding projects in other applications (including Final Cut Pro) may render slowly but don't result in artefacts.
    Best wishes

  • Artifacts in gif animation

I'm experiencing an issue with artifacts in gif animation and I hope the collective brain trust in here can help.  I've attached the file so you can see what I'm talking about.  I've loaded the file into Dreamweaver to run as the header background and when I preview the page in IE the aircraft leave artifacts behind at every frame and the text looks torn as well.  When I preview the same page in Firefox it looks crisp.
I created the aircraft and their contrails as four separate layers and linked them prior to starting the animation process.  The text is its own layer as well.  Thinking the linking might be an issue, I also flattened the airfraft layers into one and reaccomplished the animation but go the same result.
I'm previewing the images in Firefox version 3.5.3 and IE 8.0.6001.  The animation itself is 60 frames long each with a duration of .01.  The file was "saved as web device" from Photoshop as a .gif 64 dithered (dithered 88%) and then inserted into the page I'm working on through Dreamweaver.
Anyone out there have a suggestion as to how I can clean this image up and make it look as good on IE as it does on Firefox?

    Marian & Mylenium,
Thanks for the information.  I tried to just animate the aircraft and while the artifact issue was solved, the animation simply wasn't smooth enough for my liking.  I agree the SWF option is the way to go but due to IT restrictions, that software isn't readily available to the end users.  I use Preimere Pro too so creating the files would be a breeze but pointless to do so if the file won't launch.  I appreciate you both taking the time to not only answer the question but to explain why going the route I was going wasn't the best option.  Cheers!

  • Quality Issues and Green Strip at Right of Frame in Comp. 3.5

I just upgraded to Compressor 3.5 with my upgrade of FCS which includes FCP 7 (I guess this is FCS 3 even though the upgrade box doesn't say so). The quality of Compressor's outputs using the same settings is noticeably inferior to the previous versions of Compressor in the FCS releases that included FCP 5 and FCP 6. I also have this green stripe that appears at the extreme right edge of the frame.
I mostly do h.264 compressions for streaming. In previous versions of Compressor included with FCS 5 and FCS 6, Compressor made incredibly good quality compressions when set to a restriction of 300 kbps for a 500 x 282, 16.9 screen size using the 'best quality' multi-pass encoding setting. In version 3.5 of Compressor, the quality, using the same settings, is absolute crud and I have this green stripe appearing on the extreme right edge of the frame.
My original source content is usually HDV 1080i60. The problem with my Compressor outputs w/ the green stripe is consistent, however, with footage I've been working with in Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)24p from a Red camera.
Has anyone else experienced this green stripe issue and know a solution? I'd also appreciate any suggestions on how to improve the output quality when compressing in h.264.
Also, has anyone gone back to the previous version of Compressor included with FCP 6 (sorry, I don't know what version of Compressor was included w/ FCP 6)? If so, does it play nicely with FCP 7?

I may have just answered my own question with the green stripe artifact issue in Compressor 3.50. Thought I'd share it to see if it helps anyone else.
A true 16:9 frame means the height of the frame is 0.5625% of the length (9 / 16 = .5625). I used to compress material with a frame size of 500 X 282. Although this wasn't a true 16:9 frame, the difference didn't create noticeable distortion and previous versions of Compressor handled it ok. In 3.5 this deviation appears to create strange artifacts, in my experience, on the right edge of the screen in the form of a solid green stripe. When I moved my frame size to 512 x 288, the green stripe artifact went away. 288 / 512 = .5625, which is a true 16:9 frame.
I have no idea if this is just a coincidence or a solution. These are the results of what 30 min. of testing yielded. Perhaps it will be helpful to others in dealing w/ the strange line artifacts on the edges of frames.

  • Rendering and Artifacting problems on Mac OS

I am currently deveolping a game and after recently installing Flash Player 11 I have been getting rendering and artifacting issues along with mouse over states of the stage not being recongnized. The swf works fine in the flash preview of Flash CS5 and on a windows machine. The issue only shows up on Mac OS. The problem occurs in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. This is also occuring on others Macs in the office as well. Link to the game http://bs-dezign.com/2011_Cyclones.swf. The viewing area is down the center of the stage aligning with hud.
