Artifacts after PPT import and resizing

Hi all,
I have a CP file created from a PPTX. Once the slides have been imported, I rescaled the project (maintaining aspect ratio) to shrink it, then resized it again (NOT maintaining aspect ratio) to add some blank space below my slides for additional content. All is well within CP, but once I publish it to SWF, artifacts (looks like the same slide content at original size) appear at the bottom where my blank space is supposed to be. (See partial screenshot below.) Any thoughts on why this is happening? Or if there's a better way to put my PPT slides in a CP file at specified dimensions AND have blank space at the bottom, I'm certainly open to other ways of doing it.
Thanks!
J
(Windows 7, Captivate 6 64-bit, PowerPoint 2010)

Could you tell which slide quality you are using? Although I agree that resizing is not always a good idea, resizing here is keeping all original sizes of objects and shouldn't decrement the quality for that case. I used this approach to create a knockout Master slide in an article. Post the link below
It is very annoying that Powerpoint is always measuring in cm instead of pixels (crazy for a program that is first meant to use in presentations, but that is MS...). The size in pixels is somewhere but deeply hidden in PPT. However if you create a CPTX-file from a PPT file it will have the resolution of that file in pixels. Then you can rescale it to add more space, while keeping the original slide in its original resolution.
Perhaps it could help you, this old article:

  • What is the max. resulotion for the video after ppt-import?

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to create an audio podcast with Captivate, by importing ppt-slides and then recording audio speech over each slide. So far so good.
I get the impression that the quality of the resulting video never reaches proper 720p HD quality - e.g. fonts are blurry.
Is there a limitation of what I can get out of the ppt-file? Is there a tutorial or similar I can use to get the best quality out of my imported ppt?
    Thanks & best regards
    QnA_Dude

LOL, you are talking about blurry fonts with an *AUDIO* podcast? How will they be seen?
That question notwithstanding, one way to achieve crystal clear PPT is to use Captivtate to record the slide deck playing just as you would record any other application. If you go the import route, you will likely see some artifacting as the scale changes.
Then again, with *ANY* method in Captivate, you will see artifacting when you change the scale of what is being viewed. The degree to which it suffers depends on how much scaling is occurring. Captivate works with raster images.

  • Partial PPT imports and with very random success

I have a collection of 35 PPT files that I need to record in
Captivate (not Presenter) before next Tuesday. Of the 35, only 7
imported perfectly. The others stopped the import within the first,
second or third slide. It appears to be some kind of PPT/Captivate
compatability issue but not sure. Has anyone seen this?
I've reinstalled Flash, re-created one of the PPT's from
scratch that failed to import, deleted specific items, etc. but to
    no avail.
I'm desparately seeking a solution since my new job is
relying on getting these done in a certain timeframe and now this
basic feature in Captivate isn't working!!
    Thanks for any insights...

    Hi Sherry
Okay, color me totally confused. Your post at 02:25 PM said:
However, I just realized that these custom recordings didn't
have the option to "advance to the next slide 'on mouse click'." Is
there a way to stop at the end of each of my recorded slides so
that the user has to click to get to the next page?
I then outlined how to insert a Click Box object on each
slide. Please note that by inserting a Click Box object on each
slide, the slide should stop and wait for user interaction before
proceeding. Isn't that what you wanted?
    You came back to say:
I'm having the opposite issue. The slides automatically advance
but I want the user to have to click the NEXT button to get to the
next slide instead of it automatically going to the next one.
That's what the Click Boxes should be doing. Assuming they
are correctly configured. The possibility exists that they aren't
configured to Pause. Have you double checked that?

  • Camera RAW, file not recognized after import and migration, Aperture 2.1

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a 1DMKIII and am constantly getting "file not recognized" after I import and even after migrating RAW files. My 1DS MK1 RAW files have no issues. The RAW files render just fine using CS4 bridge. Any ideas here on a fix? Other than ditching Aperture (not desireable)
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hummmm..I have just 'manned-up' from a 2gb macbook running tiger+CS4 to a iMac 24" 8gb running leopard BUT!
I shoot RAW and the iMac will not recognize the NEF RAW files! this is soo frustrating - tried to update Camera Raw but to no avail.
please help! I've got 987 raw wedding photos to process!!
I dont know what to do!

  • Iphoto wont open after system upgrade and iLife install

I installed Leopard and reallized i had to also buy iLife because the old version of iphoto was not supported by the the new operating system. Installed iLife and everything works exept iphoto. It acts as though it is "loading library" and then a pop-up window shows up saying:
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iphoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previouse versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library."
I have hit "upgrade". But it still does not open.
I have about 9000 photos saved on an external drive.
I have repaired permissions as well as trashed iphoto and re-installed.
I read similar posts and am tempted to create a new library with library photo manager but am affraid i will lose some of my pictures.
I should include that because I couldn't open after the os update, I went into the my photo folders through finder and added new pix that I needed to get off of my camera. I've sinced trashed those folders.
    Any ideas?
    THanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Thanks for the heads up on the out of date screenshot of BatChmod. It's been updated now. If all you your efforts to get your library updated and running fail you might try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library based on the data in the AlbumData.xml file and leaves your current library untouched. Here's how that would work:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Importing and Organizing Thousands of Photos into IPhoto

How can I import about 20 thousands photo into IPhotos and keep the logical organization?
I just buy a Mac Mini and I start trying to move my photos. These are organized in directories by dates with a customize description for the occasion ( …/YEAR/YEAR-MONTH-DAY + DESCRIPTION/)
I tried with few directories and I realized that in order to use IPhoto and keep the logical organization I will have to create and name about 500 albums manually and look for the photos for every album again one by one.
It sounds hard because the number of albums and photos.

There is a 3rd party application, iPhotoTool, that will let you select the top folder containing many subfolders and import all of them into iPhoto and create an album of each sub folder. That will save you a lot of manual work. Then all you need to do is create folders in the Source pane to organize your albums. Be sure to not allow duplicates each time it asks or you'll get duplicates in many of the folders. You'll be asked for each subfolder above the lowest but that's lot easier than manually finding and dragging each folder into iPhoto's Source pane.
    Do you Twango?

  • RAW importing and editing

Okay, I know this has been covered countless times under different guises but I have a few specific questions/gripes.
I've been happily shooting away these past few weeks (Canon Rebel XTi, before anyone asks), and shooting RAW most of the time. Now I have continually imported and deleted (from camera) my photos into iPhoto, satisfied that it's importing RAW files correctly. Satisfied as when comparing the images to the automatically saved JPEG version the extra latitude is visibly obvious. Trying to open these files (.CR2) in Photoshop CS2 though, it says the file is unsupported (either from hitting edit within iPhoto, or browsing in Finder). Although importing the .CR2 files into Aperture 2 and Photoshop CS3 (Trial versions) they open as RAW. In addition though there are images that match the look of the RAW although they are JPGs.
What does iPhoto do to photos?

    Andrew:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto doesn't do anything to files when it imports. It just copies them. It appears the CS2 doesn't support that Canon's RAW file where CS3 does. Check at the Adobe site and see if there's a plugin for CS2 that will make it work.
    FWIW:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Alternative way to import and organize photos?

    Hi,
I've got a mixed Mac/XP setup, and would like to make all photos available to all users. I'll be implementing iPhoto on the Macs, obviously.
Currently, I've got all my photos organized by directory in a YEAR/MONTH/DAY/CAMERA hierarchy. This makes it fairly easy to browse with nothing more than Finder/XP Explorer.
I'm thinking I'll keep this format, and just have iPhoto reference these files in their current locations, since the iPhoto organization is less intuitive for those that can't use iPhoto (those being the XP users on my network).
Is there an easy way to download photos into this hierarchy, then launch iPhoto, and tell it to add these newly downloaded files to the library, referenced in their current location? Perhaps an ImageCapture/Automator type workflow?
    Thanks.

    welcher:
To keep your file system the way you want and have auto import of your files you'd need an application like iView MediaPro. I have auto update capability for adding files/folders to it's system, called a catalog. I use it as my primary image management application and iPhoto for creating books, calendars, cards, etc. iVMP allows you to annotate the files and write those annotations back to the file itself. It also lets you rename the actual file names, either individually or in batches. I use it to rename each file with it's EXIF Capture Date in the format YYYY-MM-DD-description-001.jpg, -002, jpg, etc. That gives me excellent chronological sorting and searching capabilities in any application. iVMP also lets you create hierarchical Catalog Sets for advanced organization.
The alias based system that you're considering will keep your "source" files in the same structure as you'd like but, as Terence pointed out, you have to add the new files manually. I you could add a folder action to each of your source file folders to automatically import into iPhoto any new file added to that folder. However, that file(s) would come into iPhoto in it's/their own roll. Another caveat of the alias based system is that if you delete a photo from iPhoto you have to delete it manually from your source files. AND you can't move or rename the source files once they've been imported into iPhoto.
You can somewhat mimic your folder structure by creating folders, sub folder, albums and smart albums in the Source pane to group your photos as desired. You can also use the calendar at the bottom of the Souce pane (on the left) to locate files by year/month/date. You can also use Smart Albums to group photos by camera ( and go farther and sort by year/month/camera - by day would be too many smart albums IMO).
There are a lot of ways to achieve what you want. My Tutorials have some additional information on using iPhoto's alias system.
    Do you Twango?

  • Artifacts when I import .avi file to After Effects (and Premiere)

    Hi,
I'm having some issues with After Effects that I can't figure out. I've got a video file in .avi that loads and plays fine by itself, but when I import it to edit in After Effects 5.5, I get strange artifacts during playback, and they even translate to the final export. I get the same issue when I try to import and render in Premiere. I have the sequence matching what the video file is, and even right clicked the file, and interpreted the footage for the project to match the video file to be sure, but with no successes at figuring it out. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?
I get the same issue regardless of me being on my desktop or laptop. I'm using Windows 7 on both computers.
Per the questions I should ask:
What exact version of After Effects? Include the minor version number---e.g., After Effects CC (12.2.1) or After Effects CS6 (11.0.4). Do not just say "After Effects with the latest updates" or "After Effects CC"; give the specific version number. 10.5.0.253
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.) Yes
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac". Windows 7
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? No messages.
What were you doing when the problem occurred? What is the exact sequence of steps that you are taking? Importing and test ram preview and or rendering.
Has this ever worked before? If this worked before by doesn't work now, what has changed on your computer in the intervening time? First time i've tried this.
Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number and sizes of connected monitors, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected. Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz, 8GB ram, 64b OS, 2 monitors, 3 hard drives. AMD Radion 6900
What versions of drivers for your graphics hardware do you have installed (including CUDA driver and driver for display adapter)? 13.12
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? No
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime". .avi
Do you have QuickTime installed. (You should.) If so, what version? The answer should be specific, such as "QuickTime 7.6.2". yes, 7.7.5
What other software are you running? none
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? none that I know of.
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects? I think so, it's enabled.
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both? both
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing? no
Are you using the ray-traced 3D renderer? no
If the problem is with output, give your exact output settings (both render setting and output module settings). Screenshots help. 2014-11-13_1514 - Tetra84's library
Here is a screenshot of the issue that I'm talking about:

I'd ask on the Camtasia forums what codec they do recommend and how they recommend transcoding your existing TSC2 files.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3.  Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialogue box so large that I can't see the eject card button.  Consequently, I can't get rid of the dialogue box without having to do a force quit on Aperture.  How do I fix?

I can drag the dialog box, but I can't move it up far enough to get to the eject card button.  The dialogue box contains all the jpeg Numbers I am trying to upload.  It has never done that before.  It used to be just a smal dialogue box with no jpeg numbers in it.
It is even difficult to get to the Finder with the Dialague box is open.  I have to force quit aperture.

  • After effects import failing and crashing

After effects CC 2014.1.1 on imac i7 running OSX 10.10.1
Any actions within after effects evokes an error "warning undo group mismatch, will attempt to fix"
This often either crashes software or deletes without trace all imported recent files.
A connecting issue to this is tat the import function via the menu or the short cut only works once. a second import and the import window does not show up. The only way is to drag and drop.
This then seems to be one of the trigger for the mismatch issue thus AE deleting all imported files even after working on them.
I have tried both AE CC and AE CC2014 with the same problems on both software versions
I have tried deleting the preferences from both software versions
I have also tried a complete uninstall and re install, this meant I lost CC and now only have CC2014 but it STILL has the same problem.
Im reallly stuck here and I have a deadline luming and a workflow that has more or less come to a standstill.
The only other thing I can say that isnt my day to day work flow is that Im using a C4D .aec file for camera data and image sequence but not sure if that would cause a n issue.

Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported
and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
