Artifacts and cartoon like picture on quicktime 7.3 with 10.4.11

10.4.11 brought some odd quirks (usb mikes don't wor etc...) but now I can see quicktime movies ( they look animated - using the trailers section for instance- I can see movies in itunes preview fine and inline previews but all quicktime player playback is - odd- ( looks like someone added-- I took a screen capture) not sure if this is just another 10.4.11 problem ( applecare suggested I downgrade to fix the usb issue- so I gather there are some quirks)

Many, many thanks! Given that information I searched farther and found my version 7 registration code on an old backup disk, and happily that did the trick. Problem solved.

I have a mac mini with a web cam/microphone and would like to be able to facetime with my families iPhones 4S/5 using wi-fi email address. I can't call the iPhones from the Mac Mini with Mountain Lion OS. What is wrong?

I am trying to include a Mac Mini with a webcam/microphone to call several family iPhones 4S/5 usisng email addresses vice phone numbers so that we can communicate from outside the US via iPhone to the US (Mac Mini) via wi-fi and email addresses. We are using the same email address for the Mac Mini as for Itunes and made new email addresses for each of the iPhones. I cannot receive calls from the iPhones but can call the iPhones from the Mac Mini. what needs to be corrected?

Secure PDFs and applications like Abobe Digital Editions are completely dismissing the needs of the Dyslexic reader.

I am a dyslexic who has difficulty in reading and writing, however the advances in technology have enabled me and people like me the ability to engage with books, manuals and documents using text to speech packages. Whilst it is true that screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA and others have an ability to read the textual representations on a screen, they are not ideal (such as having difficulty in dealing with text flow), and there very essence is designed with visually impaired users in mind and not the dyslexic. The software of choice for the dyslexic (well for me at least) is Read and Write by Texthelp - a package that enables user such as me to properly read documents in a variety of formats and layouts, plus many other features, such as word highlighting, screen masking, dictionary lookups etc. etc.
Read and Write has a plug-in called PDFAloud that attaches itself to a standard Acrobat Reader or Editor to enable the user to read a PDF, however, with the advent of publishers wanting to secure their copyright by creating things like secure PDFs, this facility is not able to work in the correct fashion. It has therefore stopped people like me from being able to get the most out of those documents as the reading software no longer has the ability to read the text within the page in a sensible format (yes, Read and Write has screen reading abilities, but as mentioned these are not ideal). By locking out such software to read the documents natively, you are effectively excluding a whole group of users that have specific learning difficulties. In some circles this could be seen as discriminatory.
We need a way for software manufacturers and publishers to communicate in order that all users across all groups are catered for in the correct fashion, and not simply as a way for publishers to protect their own interests. It should not be difficult for companies like Adobe to provide the platform on which publishers can securely release electronic printed material, yet also provide the ability for third party developers to interact with that platform and thus help users who have specific needs. Crikey, if I wanted to copy the material, I could simply screen dump it - you are never going to stop a determined user from copying copyrighted material, but you are going to severely limit the ability of users with needs.

I must say that after being FORCED to use this application, I can see that this is going to turn out to be an absolute horrendous and painful experience!Not only is there no support for my dyslexic software, but even basic reading navigation is non existent - and all this from a piece of software in its fourth generation!!!!
The literature I am trying to read is produced in partnership with the UK HM Government.I cannot believe that they have willingly decided to produce documentation in this format, both tying themselves into a product that seems to be little more than a beta version, and deliberately ignoring the needs of a large group of users that have difficulty with reading.Talk about make a difficult job worse.Well done the UK Government, TSO, Axelos (the Intellectual Property owners of the material I'm trying to read - which all relates to "Best Practice", if you can believe that) and well done Adobe.
To compound all of this I found a post on these very forums that was submitted back in 2011 from a lady who again had been forced into using this product through eBook purchases for her son, and again highlighted the fact that it was incompatible with his dyslexia software.Her post received the expected response from Adobe that I fear will be forthcoming with regard to this query - i.e. nothing.

IPhoto allows iPad's pictures to be seen even with passcode lock.

I plugged my iPad on and I have a passcode on it. iPhoto opened automatically, tried to read all photos, displayed them, they then disappeared and a box came up saying:
"Photos in the Camera Roll on "Anthony's iPad" cannot be viewed or imported because the iPod is locked with a passcode.
(Under that text was:)
You must enter your passcode on the iPod to view and import them.
Here's the thing, I've been able to replicate the error over and over and see the pictures on the camera roll with iPhoto by unplugging it and reconnecting the cable.
I don't feel like having a passcode really protects my iPad from other's eyes, if taken or even sync by someone else if they hook it up the mac.
Anyone else getting this or can replicate this error? Is this a known bug?

First of all, the Passcode is only 4 digits, so it's like the weakest password out there. If you have MobileMe, you can remote wipe your iPad (and iPhone). I have that setup, even though I don't keep anything private on my iPad.
As for iPhoto grabbing your photos off of the iPad, I'm not sure what the issue is. It sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to do. You can only sync with one computer. If it connects to a second computer, unless you authorize it, iTunes will ask if it should erase the iPad and restore it as a new iPad.
Now if I'm missing the real issue here, just post back, and I'll see if I can help.

Something went wrong with the update, this can and does happen with every version of iOS.
There is nothing wrong with the update.
Simply restore the device via iTunes on the computer.
If iTunes is stating it will take hours to update, that indicates an extremely slow Internet connection and is likely the reason the OTA update failed.

Video clips have perfect audio but no picture in Quicktime, VLC has perfect audio and jittery picture... How is this fixed?

I have a Canon 550D and a class 6 Sandisk extreme 3 card which I have been taking great photos and film clips.
Yesterday I captured some content and when I put it into my macbook pro, the images were clear as per usual however the videos only appeared to play the audio in aperture 3 and also in quicktime.
I then tried the videos in VLC and it had perfect audio once again but with picture this time. This picture quality seemed to freeze.be jittery.
Has anyone had/fixed this before..?? The content I have captured was of a once off opportunity for work...

Drag the Library from the Pictures folder to the Users/Shared folder. I would point out that folks doing this on 10.6 and later frequently meet permissions issues. You might do better moving it to an appropriately formatted External Disk.

I don't know about your camera roll, but for photostream just do this:
Go into Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign back in using your Apple ID information.
Make sure to do the same thing with your iTunes and App Store options.
Settings > iTunes and App Store > Click Email and sign out, then sign back in.

This advice will sound like a joke or prank, but believe me it worked on my iPhone 5 and my daughter's. The lens mechanism got stock on each of our iPhones. We found a post on these message boards that said to hold the iPhone about 6 inches above a table or counter top and drop it so that it lands flat on it's back. Now try the camera ...Fixed! It has been more than six months now and neither of our iPhones have ever experienced the problem again.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your best method would be to connect via USB and transfer that way, since videos are not transferred using photostream.
However you can stop photos on your mac being added to photostream in the iPhoto preferences > photostream by unchecking the automatic upload box.
