Artifacts around letters when uploading to Facebook

Hi people,
I have an issue that has me stumped. I'm uploading a Facebook timeline photo that I've created in Illustrator and exported as a PNG. It looks fine after being exported on my Mac, but It keeps uploading to Facebook with artifacts around the different shapes.
My setup
Illustrator CS4
Mac OSX Lion
What I've tried
1. The image is the exact pixel size it needs to be for the Facebook timeline cover photo
2. "save for web and devices" in several different formats and options to avoid the issue
3. I've tried starting with a completely new image and made different artwork, but it still has artifacts
Image one below is the original after it's been exported as a PNG
Image two below is after it's been uploaded to Facebook. Notice the artifacting around the letters and the elephant.
I'm green on Illustrator, so any suggestions and best practices for saving for the web would be most helpful. Merry Christmas to all!
Jared

Like Monika says, ít looks as if your png is being altered to a very low res jpg.
Nasty and unprofessional, but maybe that's what you might expect from Facebook.

  • When uploading to Facebook how can I remove the "via Photoshop & Adobe Premiere Elements Uploader" ?

    Hi everyone,
I am slowly getting to grips with Premiere Elements12.
When uploading to Facebook how can I remove the "via Photoshop & Adobe Premiere Elements Uploader" ?
I see there was an earlier posting (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3320214#3320214) which was for version 8, and I can understand the issue, but, (assuming its the same issue) has a remove tagline feature been installed??
Is this also the same in the Pro version?
Thanks in advance for any good info
    Pete

I do not know if Premiere Pro CS6 CC offers an upload to Facebook export. Strictly an Elements Windows person here.
The Premiere Pro Forum is a good place to ask about that.

I do not have any Facebook accounts, so I cannot answer your specific Facebook question, but generalizing I can offer the following suggestions.
If your issue with Publish+Share/Computer/Social websites/Facebook is with tagging, you might want to check the Facebook web site for the Video Manager section of it (or that by some counterpart name). I know that YouTube at the YouTube web site allows the account holder to go into Video Manager and manage his/her tags for the file uploaded there and displaying. Have you been there and done that type of thing for your Facebook upload.
    Please see
    https://www.facebook.com/help/tag-suggestions
    https://www.facebook.com/help/privacy/photos
Please review and then let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

Add On...As suggested in your inserted link, in Premiere Elements can you export to file saved to computer hard drive and then upload that file from there to Facebook at the Facebook web site without the tagging issue?

  • Video degraded when uploaded to Facebook

Since upgrading to Mavericks, which I did almost immediately after getting my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display, video is badly degraded when uploaded to Facebook from iMovie or iphoto. It  looks fine when view in iphoto or imovie, but after sharing right from either of those apps, to facebook, it loses an incredible amount of quality. Is it something in my settings? Or bandwidth from my ISP? My old little 13 macbook created great videos that looked just as good when uploaded to FB. Thanks

Ther version of Premiere Elements 13 is the version on a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7; 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB.  OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2
When loading to Facebook the processing finishes - the progress meter gets to the end. The Error Message pops up at the end.
Vimeo and YouTube built in Premiere Elements feature work?
    - I only tried YouTube but that did not work either.
What specific error messages are you getting with the Facebook failures?
    - The error pop up message is above
BUT....  What did work was mentioned in this chain.
I exported the image to an MP4 video then saved it onto my HD. The imported the image to Facebook

  • IPhoto '11 sits on 'Pending' when uploading to Facebook

Aside from my many grumbles over iPhoto '11, which I won't bore you with as everyone else has done that plenty already, my biggest gripe with iPhoto is an issue that some people seem to have but nobody has said what/if it is resolved and that is uploading to Facebook.
Since I upgraded from iPhoto '09 to '11 I have been unable to upload to facebook, a feature that worked great in '09. I have done all the things that were suggested through various googling such as removing my facebook account in preferences and removing albums, but it still doesn't work. iPhoto can create a new album on my fb account, but that's it, when it tries to upload a photo it just sticks with a progress indicator bar saying 'Pending'... that's it.
    What a rip off!
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I have updated to version 9.1 (475) of iPhoto and I updated Mac OS X to 10.6.5 on Friday so afaik I'm up to date with all the iPhoto type updates.
    Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem, exactly. It was a brand-new install of iPhoto 11; and an empty library, not an upgraded one. I had uploaded an album or two to Facebook, and then it stopped working. Every time I'd restart iPhoto, the spinner next to the Facebook section would appear and start spinning. It wouldn't publish anything. My network monitor revealed that iPhoto was not sending or receiving any data, not even an occasional "ping". It said "pending", and would never finish. It would go for hours. Besides that, it wouldn't let me quit iPhoto. It would warn me that a sync was in progress, and ask if I wanted to cancel the sync and quit; but if I said yes, it still would never quit. The Quit menu item would gray out, and I would have to force quit it.
I tried removing the Facebook account from iPhoto and recreating it, but that did not help, until I followed the recommendation above, which is to delete the Facebook account from iPhoto, quit iPhoto, restart, and then add it back. That worked.
I've had so many problems with iPhoto 11. It was some cool changes, but it is far, far more buggy than the previous version. In fact, I had no significant problems with the previous version. Not sure what Apple did, but they really bungled this release. The annoying thing is that the bugs seem to be about very elementary things (accounts, permissions, and other low-level things), not the new whiz-bang features. I'd expect more from a shareware developer, but this is from a multi-billion dollar corporation.

  • Video taken from Iphone vertically has thick black border around it when uploaded to youtube. Any way to fix?

I edited a bunch of clips taken from my Iphone, some vertical some horizontal. I put them together on Final Cut Pro but when uploaded to youtube, the clips recorded vertically have thick black edges and the video itself looks tiny! Is there any way to fix this? Please help!

You need to sort some stuff out.
Your source is pal 25 frames in SD
Your offline footage is HD with a framerate 29.97.
You need to set your sequence the same as your footage.
Then export again with the same framerate.

  • Pictures uploaded to photos app not available when uploading through Facebook

I've uploaded pictures to my photos library, which show up in the various albums that I've transferred them to.  In Facebook, when I try to upload pictures the recent pictures do not show up when Facebook access's those albums.  Earlier pictures are there but not the recently uploaded ones.  It appears that some sort of refresh is necessary to update the Facebook file structure to the new pictures, but I can't seem to find a way to do that.  How do I get recently loaded pictures to show up through Facebook?

    What version of iPhoto?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

You can try this fix by Paul Griffin  that I found recently:
    Paul J Griffin
Re: My iPhoto will not longer let me hit the Facebook icon and immediately post to Facebook.  Now it says, "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?"  which you still can't do.  What gives?
Dec 30, 2012 7:26 PM (in response to laurafromhamilton)
Just solved it here after an hour+ of experimenting.
    Try this:
    • When you get prompted "Do you want to set up iPhoto of post to Facebook?" confirm and it will bring up your regular Facebook home page in asmall viewer window.
    • Go up to the upper right corner of the Facebook page and log out, then hit the "Close" button at the bottom of the small viewer window.
    • You'll probably get the same "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" prompt again. This time hit Cancel
    • Now try to share your pictures to Facebook again.  You'll get the "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" message again. Do it and this time hopefully you should get a prompt to login to your Facebook account. Enter your Facebook name and password. This should reset your connection.
    • If successful you should get a prompt from Facebook that you can close the page. Close it and fingers crossed, all should work again. That's what worked for me.
Or export the photos out of iPhoto to the Desktop and upload to FB with your browser.

  • Photos are smaller when uploaded to facebook

This is my first mac, and I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I get the basic idea of iPhoto, BUT whenever I post new pictures on facebook they are much smaller than when I used my PC. I've looked through the preferences and such to try and find a setting I can change and I haven't had much luck. I'm trying to keep my applications strictly to apple, but I'm pretty close to downloading Picasa or something because this is ridiculous. Help?

Facebook “processes“ your photos when you upload them. I just uploaded a 544kb file using FaceBook’s own uploader (not iPhoto). They “processed” the photo and I downloaded it again. The resulting download was 48kb.
So, when FaceBook “process” your pics they remove more than 90% of the data, all of the metadata and colour info. This is not an iPhoto issue, it’s a Facebook one.
Put another way, if you care about your photos, don’t put them on Facebook.
    Regards
    TD

  • I get errors when uploading to Facebook from in Lightroom 4?

I have looked thoroughly for an answer/fix to this and cannot find one. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4326179#4326179 did not work.
I hit 'Publish' to upload new photos. It goes like normal and then when done comes with, "(Error) Photo upload failed, but no error sting was returned from facebook." I hit 'OK.' Then another error comes up, "(Warning) Can't update this collection. Photo upload failed, but no error sting was returned from facebook."
It used to come up with this and be able to upload some photos, and I would have to keep doing this until are were uploaded. Now, I have 4 photos to upload and have tried for about 2 weeks just publishing. I will also have more photos to publish soon.

Try the 4.4RC - there are some Facebook related fixes http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom4-4/

  • My keyboard wont show the letters when im on facebook

when i was on facebook the keyboard letters wont show up

Most Apple devices and computers have keyboards. It would be lovely if you would share which you are using.
Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for an obsolete Apple productivity program. When we know what Apple device you are using, I can ask the Hosts to move you to a more active and appropriate forum for your product.

  • Bold 9650 freezes when uploading pics (Facebook v1.9? issue?)

I have the Bold 9650 and use v5.0.0.975 and upgraded to the new Facebooko v1.9 as soon as it was available (did not get the beta app, I waited) and ever since I did whenever I go to take a pic and upload it to FB, my phone freezes and locks up. Every time! IF it decides to unfreeze (and that has only happened less than 1/2 a dozen times) then it will not allow me to cick on any other icons on my phones main screen...sms, contacts, email, browser. The only other solution is a battery pull and that is getting old REALLY quick!
Well, let me just say that this is when I noticed the problem...I am assuming it is tied to the FB upgrade, but I could be wrong.
I have tried posting on Crackberry.com and not gotten any helpful advice so wondering if someone in here could help me with some suggestions to prevent this from happening every time.
I am thisclose to doing a complete system wipe and starting over to see if that would help...but that would be my last resort, obviously!
Thanks in advance for your response!

Hi!!  I have the same exact issue, we are both not alone and i'm soo happy i actually found someone else that is having this happen.  I'm not happy we have this problem cause i know its exhausting.  DO NOT DO A SECURITY WIPE!  It won't help.  I've done a wipe and verizon just replaced my phone on Friday and i am still having this issue.  Also, i'm now running v 5.0.0.1006 so its not the os like i thought it was.  I am starting to think it is the fb app.  Maybe should just uninstall fb and wait for an updated version, i don't know...
    Hope this helps alittle...

Valene: I never did the security wipe - I upgraded to OS 6.0.0.028 and am STILL having this problem with uploading pics using the FB app as well as the mobile site...I have 11 months left before my NE2 and will more than likely be switching to an Android at that time...ticks me off that every time I want to upload a pic and share it that I have to do a freakin battery pull. Sure hope the powers-that-be at FB and BB see these posts and get to steppin on a fix!

  • Iphoto crash when uploading to Facebook

    Hi all and HNY.
My problem is trying to upload photos and albums to Facebook from iPhoto.  We have 2 Facebook accounts, my wife and me.  My account is fine and I can upload photos easily but every time we try with her Facebook account iPhoto starts and then crashes.
We have a late 2009 iMac 21½" running Yosemite and all the latest versions of apps including iPhoto, we have also just upgraded to 12GB of RAM from 4GB.
The next and last resort I feel is just to remove her Facebook account from iPhoto and then add it back again hoping this might clear the problem.  I don't know if its a Facebook issue or iPhoto problem right now.
Also concerned about removing a Facebook account from iPhoto as we don't want to lose any Facebook albums, don't think that will happen anyway.  What you do see before deleting the account from iPhoto is an option about importing all Facebook albums to iPhoto but as they would have all come from iPhoto in the first place then I don't see the need to do this.
Hoping somebody else has had the same problem and can share some views / thoughts.
    Thanks

    Desperate for some help, anyone?

  • I can see my pictures in "Recent" but when I double click a picture to make it big its just a big exclamation mark on the preview. What do I do? I also can't see the pictures to upload to facebook or email.....

I can't view pictures to attach to an email or upload to facebook it's just blank or shows an exclamation mark for each picture. I can see them in "recent" but if I double click on a picture to enlarge it it's just an exclamation mark again. What is wrong and how do I fix it?
    Thank you!!!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

    Hi,
You can also try one more workaround for this by using PSE Organizer. The steps are as follows:
    1. Create a facebook cover. In case you don't know how to creatw a facebook cover, please go through Photoshop Elements Help | Create a Facebook profile and cover picture
    2. Save the cover with "Include in Elements Organizer" option checked.
    3. Now, go to Elements Organizer and export that file.
        - Select the cover photo.
        - Go to File > Export as New File
        - Choose format and location.
        - Click OK.
    4. Now, you can use this file to upload.
If you stuck somewhere or need any other assistance, do let me know.
    Thanks,
    Swapnil
