ARTISAN 810 not printing

Dear all,
Bought a new printer last week, tried to set it down and followed the instructions down to the letters. Was able to scan wirelessly but not print wirelessly.
have tried to reinstall the software numerous times to no avail.
disabled firewall on both the router and Mac > no joy
tried repair permission using disc to repair hd > no difference
reset printing pref > no better
reset manually on printer by entering IP, subnet mask etc > the same
so, here is what happens
power on the printer> sys pref> Print and Fax> see all printer (USB, IP and Bonjour).
checked printer utilities> no problem there....
all hunky dory UNTIL..... I tried to print wirelessly
I get either 'communication error' or spooling...9% and stuck there until the print window disappeared.
then tried to look up the printer>Print and Fax> not there (only USB, IP)
checked check utilities > not able
not able to scan wirelessly util i reboot the printer
so, all the clever folks out there, what is wrong with the printer and what is wrong with me ?

The printer only supports 802.11g printing. 802.11n doesn't work. I've never tried scanning wirelessly. You might have better luck connecting it to your Wireless access point/router, and setting up printer sharing there.

  • Epson Artisan 810 issues - can scan and communicate but not print!

I just purchased a new Macbook Pro (13") - my first ever Mac - and am trying to get it to print with my Epson Artisan 810. Like many others I am having problems but none of the posted solutions work for me.
I installed it fresh initially with the drivers from the Epson website, I selected the Bonjour option, I was even able to download whatever update was out there through the Software Update feature, but still the same issue. The printer scans w/o a problem, it can tell me the ink levels and access the maintenance page w/o problems, but cannot print.
Whenever I print SOME message must make it to the printer because as soon as I hit print the printer starts making noise as if it is going to load paper and print, but then almost immediately it cancels the print. The printer log ALWAYS give the same error no matter what document or program I try to print from:
    Error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpll failed
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer over and over and I keep getting this same error and immediate print job cancellation. What the heck is the problem here?

John, I deleted the printer and deleted those folders and reinstalled the printer using the printer menu. When I tried the apple software update it said my software was up to date and didn't offer an option to get updated print drivers. I tried printing again and the same thing happened.
    Syd,
I am trying to print from the Macbook to the Artisan entirely over a wireless network. The Macbook has not been plugged directly into the printer or to the router at any point in this. I did try what you suggested, resetting the printing system, and as earlier it did not offer any software updates when I looked for one. I tried printing again and the same result.
I dug around some more directories and found some more files with the epson name in there and deleted those and then attempted to reinstall using the printer setup page, and then again tried a software update and again it didn't find any new drivers, and of course the same printing error occurred again.
It sure appears that the MacOS is holding onto drivers somewhere that I cannot discover because when I reinstall the printer it takes it all of 3-4 seconds to install, and when I try to do the software update it is not finding any new drivers anywhere.
Syd, I agree that there seems to be something specifically corrupted about the printer driver itself, however, but is there another way to remove drivers?
Should I try uninstalling everything and attempting a USB installation to see if prints that way?

  • The photo print quality from my Mac to my Epson Artisan 810 is poor.  When I take the same photo files (JPEGs) to my PC to print to the same printer without even uploading them to the PC, they print brighter and crisper from my PC.

The photo print quality from my Mac to my Epson Artisan 810 is poor.  I just purchased my iMac for my photography business in Jan. (this is my first Mac).  When I first tried printing, I noticed the quality wasn't as good as I expected it to be.  Then, I had to print 4-3.5x5s on a sheet, so I e-mailed the image to myself and opened it on my PC to print it (much easier to print that way on PC in Windows Photo Gallery - I think it's impossible to print that way in iPhoto).  That's when I first noticed that when I take the same photo files (JPEGs) to my PC to print to the same printer without even uploading them to the PC, they print brighter and crisper from my PC.
I've already been on the phone and e-mail w/Applecare many times over this issue. We've tried creating a test user and printing from there, and we've tried reinstalling the OS.  I've tried printing from iPhoto, ImageCapture, and Preview apps/utilities, all w/the same result - no comparison to the PC-printed versions (no enhancements have been performed on the PC).
I'm out of ideas, and so is Applecare.  They say it's most likely a driver issue b/c the printer is outdated, and that the only solution is to buy a new printer.  BUT it is a pain for me to purchase a new printer - it takes days of research due to the nature of my business and the fact that I need a printer that can print directly onto a disc.  I love this printer and don't want to have to buy a new one if I don't have to.

Yes.  I've checked for updates, and the driver I installed is the same as the one on Epson's website.  I also spoke with Epson Customer Service, which was a dead end.  Apple says the problem is due to an Epson driver issue (blaming Epson), but Epson says that with the older printers, it's actually Apple who creates the driver, so the problem is actually with Apple.  Typical he-said, she-said...

  • EPSON Artisan 810 a Bi-Function, not Multi-Function, All-In-One

I was in a local OfficeMax, looking at an *EPSON Artisan 810* all-in-one (Print, Scan. FAX, Copy), which came in a box covered with text and imagery detailing all of the amazing features it has. To my delight, I discovered that it supported OS X, albeit, they note that "some features like sharing memory cards over a network may not be supported". You'd think that would imply that tertiary (or specialty) functions may not work. But, surely, the basic 4 functions would, right?
It would have been nice if the employees had any kind of a clue with regard to the products they sell. But they don't. So I checked some support forums and the EPSON driver download page (on my phone), and sure enough, they even have Snow Leopard drivers. So I buy the printer and take it home.
I should have suspected something may be amiss when the installer asked me to enter my administrator password, but the dialog requesting the credentials kept losing focus, making it difficult to type in my password. Yikes.
I managed to get through the 30-part install (well, it felt like 30 separate, chained installers). The installer vanished, and I had no printer in my "Print and FAX" Preference Pane. Nice.
So, I add a printer manually, and it did see the EPSON as a Bonjour device. So I jump over to try the scanner, and I get a troubleshooter. After scrounging around the web, I found some advice from a user who discovered that you have to go into the Utilities folder and run an EPSON scanner utility to find and configure the device. ugh. Once I did that, it seemed to work.
Now, on to the FAX. The preference pane did not see a FAX device anywhere, and the EPSON printer itself has no FAX capabilities. So back to the web. After an hour of searching, nada. And no one even complaining about this apparent "missing" feature. So I hit the manual, and notice that FAXing from a computer is only supported in Windows.
At this point, I'm not even going to try to get the "Copy" function working.
    OFFICEMAX Knowledgeable Sales Staff: FAIL
    EPSON Customer Support: FAIL
    EPSON Product: FAIL
    EPSON Integrity: FAIL
So, in summary, this is a bi-function, not a multi-function, device. It prints and scans. They should put this on the box so people know what they're getting (or in this case, not getting). It's a real shame too, because I went with EPSON because Hewlett Packard did something similar with a computer I bought. The machine was billed as a multimedia and entertainment computer, yet, it couldn't play a game that was 5 years old. Do any of these companies have their metaphoric poop together?
And don't get me started on Lexmark.

Epson has the (annoying to me) built-in default of numbering each scan; so whatever name you would decide to use, you would still wind up with "mypicture093.jpg" for instance. That is true if you use the Epson Scan software. In any case, if you use that, once you click on "scan", you should get a new pop up window where you can enter the name (called Prefix by Epson) and where to save it. You cannot get rid of the "start number", but you can delete the number once the icon appears on your desktop or in a folder: just click it once and then hit "return" on your keyboard and you can change part of the name or the entire name for that matter.
If you choose to use the OS built-in app (under System Preferences -> Print & Fax), simply highlight the Artisan 810 and click on Scan and then on "open scanner"; you are then presented with a new window where you can change all sorts of settings incl. the name.

  • Can't print to CD/DVD on Epson Artisan 810

I'm trying to print to the CD/DVD tray on the Epson Artisan 810. The option is greyed out (disabled) on the dialogue box, and I've found no help on the internet.
I'm connected via Wi-Fi, have installed the requisite Epson & OSX drivers, and can print and scan without issue.
Anyone have any success printing to CD/DVD? Is there something I'm missing?

  • Epson Artisan 810 gives error when prints from 10.6.2

I know that Epson update 2.2 was released for 10.6.1. But it doesn't seem to help when printing from any application with 10.6.2. Should I downgrade back to 10.6.1? I have an Artisan 810 that won't print from 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro that came out in September of 2009. It will print a sample page from the utility, and run the print head cleaning utilities, but won't print a document. It makes some indication that it can't deal with a postscript file in the error in the print queue the moment I send a print job from Neo Office or Safari. I'm connected via USB. Eventually I'd like to figure out how to add it to my Time Capsule's 802.11n network if possible. But first let's get it working under USB.

I just went through this and seriously considered publishing the directions so I reckon this is my chance.
When all was said and done, I only used the Epson utility to remove all of the installed Epson software, did not use any drivers as provided by them, including the already installed Photo R280 drivers for my other printer, and started over.
Once done, I used the OSX Print & Fax System Preference to install the 810 as a new printer and let Software Update do its thing. It seems to load and install everything needed to make the thing work. Most of the Epson stuff seems useless and I find that the OSX Image Capture utility does a great job of running the scanner part.
The most important thing I learned is that the directions and utilities as provided by Epson are not very helpful. The network setup utility they provide doesn't work at all on a Mac and looks exactly like the Windows XP version. I got very frustrated and simply accessed the menus myself on the 810's control panel and joined it with the wireless network manually. It was way easier and less frustrating then trying to get the Epson junkware working.
As an aside, there are a kajillion little plastic thingies that can break and cause problems in this thing. Make sure to register it and get the free extended warranty
Other than the installation pains this has turned out to be a pretty incredible little device. I already have a great scanner and an adequate photo printer, but I needed a fax modem, and for about the same price as the modem I ended up with a lot of other functionality as well.
You can always page me in the lounge if you need any further input.

  • EPSON Artisan 810 Two-Sided Print Option Grayed Out

    Hello,
I have written a document in Pages and am attempting to print double sided using an EPSON Artison 810 all-in-one as I have used it in the past. The media type is set to plain paper/bright white paper, the paper size is US Letter (or 8.50x11.00) and Artisan 810 is the selected printer. As far as I can tell, the Two-Sided option should be working, however every time I try I get the following screen:
Does anyone have advice on how to get this to work?

Read your Epson user manual to see what it states regarding 2 sided printing & Mac OS.  Reason for this is because I have an Epson XP 400 which also allows for 2 sided printing.  Yet, its user manual does state this option "may" not work on Mac OS.  I could never get it to work w/SL.

You said HP in your post title and Epson in your body text, but I think it is actually an Epson Artisan 810.
If that's right, then the free Epson iPrint app should work for you - it lists your printer as one that it supports: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epson-iprint/id326876192?mt=8

  • After software update, Epson Artisan printers will not print 4x6

    Hi all,
After updating the Epson drivers to the latest Apple-Provided version (Via software update), neither my Artisan 837 or Artisan 835 will print to Epson Premium Glossy 4 x 6 photo ppaper. Both worked prior to the update.
I have everything set correctly in the software (nothing changed after the update) but both printers act as if they have a hardware issue now. They cannot grab the 4x6 paper and after trying for a while, they give me a generic error saying there is either a paper jam or there is no paper in the tray.
This is really weird. I can hear the printers clicking away and trying to feed a sheet to print, but neither can grab the 4 x 6 and print.
They both work just fine with 8.5 x 11.
    Any thoughts?

Snow Leopard is not a download. Did you install it from disk? What OS did you have before?
You may want to check on Epson's web site to see if they have an updated driver.
    Best of luck.

I recently upgraded to Elements 12 and also got a new printer, Epson Artisan 1430. I got some great prints and then one day, it stopped working. Elements error. No error number just a message, "Photoshop can not print this document" I tried restarting the program, the printer, and the computer. No luck. Tried different graphic files; no luck. The printer works with all other programs beautifully. I cannot find help anywhere on Adobe forum. Running Windows 7

  • My G4 w Tiger OS X won't connect to an Epson Artisan 810 All-In-One Printer

My G4 with Tiger connected via USB 1.1 to an Epson Artisan 810 Combination Copier, Printer, Scanner, and Fax won't add to the Printer List of my G4 with OSX 10.4.11. The error message is "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error: -9672 and has Epson Preferred Support stumped. Three individual techs each one building on previous attempts tracked by reference numbers end up with the same error -9672. The following are rough outlines of attempts to add the Artisan 810 to the other (hp) Inkjet 5550 printer on the Printer List for the G4.
    1. Trash the com.apple.printer.plists, repair permissions, and install Printer Driver v6.61 (epson13216.dmg). Load Printer SetUp Utility, click on + (add) to show the Artisan 810 on the list to add, click on add, only to get error -9672.
    2. Install instead the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package for the printer (epson13613.dmg). Same result: error -9672.
    3. Trash Epson plug-ins in Library> Printer> Epson as well as Epsondriver.pkg in Receipts. Then install Printer Driver v6.61 again. No luck.
The last support tech suggested going to Apple (the Genius Bar) for help, essentially saying "it's an Apple issue".
BTW, the device checks out in a test using the copy feature. Beautiful!
Any ideas would be most welcome.
