Artist missing from index

I have 12000+ songs on an iPod Classic. I was searching through Artists for an artist I know is there but it does not show on the index or through the search option. If I go to the Compilation Album on which that artist appears, I can find the track which is clearly marked as being by the artist in question.
Is the index corrupted? If so, how can I fix it?
Thanks

To ensure artists from Compilation albums appear on the Artists menu on the iPod Classic:
In iTunes, highlight the complete album:
Make sure the album is ticked as Part of a compilation (File/Get Info/Options>Part of a compilation>Yes.) Note; even if it states "yes", change it to "no" and then back to "Yes". This ensure all tracks for that album are set to "yes".
(With the complete album still selected) look on File/Get Info/Info and make sure that the Album Artist field has "Various Artists" typed in it. With this item, if it has text in the box, then it applies to each and every track, unlike the compilation menu above.
Sync iTunes with the iPod to ensure any changes are reflected on the iPod.
On the iPod Classic (this is the crucial part):
Remove "Compilations" from the Main and the Music menus.
Look in Settings/Main Menu>Compilations and make sure there is no tick next to Compilations.
Look in Settings/Music Menu>Compilations and make sure there is no tick next to Compilations.
In both cases, scroll to the Compilations and press the select (centre) button to toggle the tick on and off.
Artists who only appear on Compilation albums should now be visible in the Artists menu.

  • Artists missing from ITunes - how do you ask ITunes to provide them?

There are a LOT of artists missing from ITUNES. Some seminal albums. For example I wanted to download Ian Dury and the Blockheads (amongst many other artists) but ITUNES does not have a single track by him. Is this because ITUNES is particularly American in their outlook? or some other reason? How do you ask them to make certain artists and albums available for download?

You need to be aware that often the reason any given artist isn't represented on the iTunes Music Store is that the artist or their record company won't license Apple to resell their tracks. This often happens with a deceased artist; the rights are sown up in estates.
So by all means submit your request, but don't be surprised if nothing happens; often there's nothing Apple can do. In the case of The Blockheads, you might want to contact them directly and ask them to get their CDs onto the iTMS.

We'll assume for now, that all the songs and albums in your iTunes Library are correctly labelled (dangerous assumption, by the way!), and that a Compilation album is one with songs by different artists. Unfortunately, the music industry (bless their little cotton socks!) often mark an album by one artist, that has a collection of their songs from old albums, as a compilation! iTunes doesn't think it is!
The missing artists will be those who only appear on Compilation albums. For example, if you have one song by Fleetwood Mac in your Library, and it's on a multi-artist Compilation album, then Fleetwood Mac will not be listed in the Artists menu. But, if you then import a Fleetwood Mac album (or even a Fleetwood Mac single) into your Library, then not only will Fleetwood Mac appear under Artists, but the song by them in the Compilation album will also be listed.
One way to sort this out is to remove the Compilations option from the Main Menu and the Music Menu on your iPod. To do this, go to Settings/Main Menu/Compilations and press the Select (centre) button to turn off the tick. Then repeat this in the Settings/Music Menu/Compilations.
You should now find the missing artists listed in the Artists menu.
By the way, I now routinely check all albums I import from CD into my iTunes Library. Before I start the import procedure, I make sure that Compilation CD is turned on (highlight the album in the import window and right-click/Compilation CD) if it really is a multi-artist CD - and off if it's a single artist CD. Once imported, I manually change the album info to; (highlight album and select ) File/Get Info/Info/Album Artist has "Various Artists" in the box. Make sure it's the Album Artist box, not the Artist box.

  • Artists missing from Ipod

Artists that are in my computer Itunes library are missing on my Ipod after synching. Songs are all there under the Ipod Songs tab listing the Artist but under the Artists tab the Artist is gone.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8 and view the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. • Artists missing from column browser

Today I noticed some artists are missing from the artist list in the column browser in iTunes 11.0.2
No idea why some artists are there and others are not. They do appear in the artist view.

Sure, you can select multiple tracks and use CTRL-I to *Get Info*, then on the Options tab set *Part of a Compilation* to No. You might also find my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums useful.

  • Artists missing from menu

When I go the Artists there are quite a few missing, they are not from compilation albums either. How can I get all the artists to show up?

    Try this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307206
The songs may not be part of a compilation, but does iTunes know that? Check the setting.

  • Harddrive Crashed-One artist missing from purchased...

My harddrive crashed recently and I had to replace it. When I went to get back my purchased songs from iTunes, all of them were there except for the songs of one artist (Utada Hikaru). I had 5 songs from her and none of them were found and when I go to "check for purchases" it says I have all the songs associated with this account (and I only have one).
I bought these songs from the US iTunes so I don't understand why those are the only ones missing. Does anyone know?

Just a thought. Are the songs of the 'missing artists' marked as 'Part of a compilation'?
You will find the checkbox when Getting Info (command-I) of one of the songs (Info tab).
Artists whose albums are marked as part of a compilation do not show up in the iTunes browser. Their albums will show up when you select Compilations (left part of the browser pane, below 'All (xxx Artists)').

  • Some artists missing from 'browser'

I've recently been finding that several artists are not appearing in my 'browser' display under Artist. If I search for them, I can find them in the search results. But in my list of Artists, they simply do not appear, even though the tag has the artist clearly marked.
And these are all albums bought from the iTunes music store. I try changing the Artist name slightly, but it still will not appear.
For instance, Night Ranger, Enya, David Bowie, none of these people, although bought right from iTunes will appear in the browser list, and nothing I can do will make them there. But I can search for them, and find them easily enough.
Anyone seen that before? Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

Wow, interesting, thanks! They were marked as part of a compilation, and unchecking that somehow made them appear. But the weird thing is, I definitely have other stuff in my library as compilation, but the artists still appear.
BUT, that seems to have fixed it, so thanks!

  • Artists missing from store?

I've noticed when I went to go purchase more music by a few Japanese pop artists they no longer appear in the iTunes Store. Rather disappointing as now the only option I have to purchase music by the artists is to import the physical CDs directly from an import specialist.
I was wondering if somewhere on the iTunes/Apple site any information as to why certain artists are pulled from the store.

The upgrade to 100% iTunes Plus this month coincided with the disappearance of quite a few Japanese artists from the iTunes Store.
I have not seen any announcement from either Apple or the labels on the reasons.
You can check other online music download stores, or you can buy CDs.

  • Artists missing from list?

    Hi
I have a 80gb Classic, and loaded a new album on yesterday.... I can navigate to the album via 'Albums', but the artist doesn't appear in the 'Artists' category.
I've checked and the artists name is there when you play it, and I've tried reloading it...
Does anyone have any ideas? Will I have to restore factory setting and reload?
    Thanks!
    Ben

If the artist has at least one track that is not in a compilation then all the albums they appear on, including compilations, are listed under their artist entries. If they ONLY appear on compilations then they are normally excluded from the artists menu. To make the artist menu display ALL artists go to the Settings menu and uncheck *Main Menu > Compilations* and *Music Menu > Compilations*.

  • Some artists missing from the "following" list

I noticed that there are some artists that I follow who do not appear in the "following" list of my profile.
This is a problem when I forget the name of some of my followed artists and I don't find them no longer on the list, loosing this way the possibility to listen to him forever!
Someone else has the same problem? How can I solve it? there is no other way to access the full list of all my artists?
    many thanks in advance

recently started using Spotify, so far so good, but following artists and saving albums is important to me, since that's the point of using Spotify for me and if that part is not working properly, why keep track of things that can't be tracked and personalized. I follow a lot of artists and also have saved (not downloaded) albums of these and also non-followed artists. Some of these artists and albums don't show up again in my "Your Music" section under Artists and Albums, they appear in "Recently Played" if I have listened to these. My specific example is for Artist: Biréli Lagréne(not trying to promote the artis here, but that's how I noticed)I click follow, then save some of the albums (all actually) and the next time I m using Spotify the artist is not followed and the albums are not saved, (I have downloaded one Album to test if that cements the artist and album into my list?, just to see what happens)

  • Outlook Completely Missing from Indexed Locations

Hello.  I have an odd problem I can’t find online.  My outlook 2010 is not indexing on my Windows 7 x64 Computer.  It is also not even listed as an option under
Indexed Locations.  I have tried uninstalling office, repairing etc. but the problem still exists.  I haven’t found anything about this online.  Does anyone have any ideas?  (Please see screenshots)  Thanks

    Hi,
It seems to be an Office programs or Windows search issue.
You can try repairing the Office first.
If it doesn't work, follow the steps below to reinstall the Windows Search feature:
Control Panel-> Programs and Features-> Turn Windows features on or off
    Deselect: Windows Search
Press OK and wait until the installer is finished.
    Reboot your computer.
Repeat the above steps to enable it again.
    Best regards,

If you get an OCI error when simply updating a record in PL/SQL Developer, it sounds like a PL/SQL Developer issue, although not one I've come across. You might try Allround Automations tech support. They'll need your exact versions of Oracle server, Oracle client and PL/SQL Developer.
SQL*Plus is part of the Oracle Client software so you should have it somewhere, or you can download it free.

  • How do you open a Numbers file sent from another Mac user with same operating system, i get a pop up that says I'm missing an index.hml file??? HELP PLEASE

how do you open a Numbers file sent from another Mac user with same operating system, i get a pop up that says I'm missing an index.hml file??? HELP PLEASE

The operating system may be the same but the Numbers applications are likely different.  You need to get the apps in sync.  Unfortunately, the Numbers (and Pages as well) saga is pretty confusing (and frustrating).  Here's some info from the iWork resident version expert (PeterBreis0807):
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs.

  • Music is missing from Media files

So I have many CD's I have copied to iTunes.  I copied them years ago.  I'm now trying to copy some of the music files from media to my phone (non-Apple) which requires me to do it from the media file location on my windows.
I noticed music is missing from my music on iTunes.  I have not found a way to update/backup whatever to get the missing music to the media files?

"Not sure how or what caused the Compilations folder in the file path."
iTunes will put any songs for which the "Part of a Compilation" flag is set into the Compilations folder.  Unless you have an older type of iDevice there's really no need to ever use "Part of a Compilation" (and even if you do, its only necessary for "Various Artists" compilations).  In this example, if you select the album in iTunes, right-click > Get Info >  Summary tab and set Part of a Compilation to "No" (and assuming that you have configured iTunes to manage your library) the media will be moved to C:\Users\RS Desktop\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\.38 Special\Flashback_ The Best of .38 Special.
"So after I moved a few songs over, went to iTunes to play.  It says it can't locate the songs."
Ah, that may be the problem ... based on what you're reporting you have these two options set under Edit > Preferences > Advanced:
This means that iTunes determines where to store media based on Artist and Album information - if you start moving files around yourself it will inevitably lose track of it (indeed, iTunes lacks any capability to keep track of media when moved by anything else, irrespective of its settings).
"How do if I click on a song a pop up asks if I want to locate, then I can go to the media files folder and get the song, but that if individually."
iTunes does sometimes automatically fix related links when you do this - however, it can't be guaranteed to do so and there is no "bulk fix" capability built into iTunes itself.
If possible, restore your iTunes Media using a backup taken before you started moving files around.  Turingtest2 has a useful script (http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp#FindTracks) that may help to resolve further issues (as always, before you start running any scripts that may modify the content of your library take a backup first).
