Artist missing in store

a couple of weeks ago i bought three bush songs one from sixteen stone and two from the science of things. now the only itunes album that that is available is golden state. what happened to the others i cant find any explanation

Looks like that’s the only album there now.
Songs can get pulled for any number of reasons, such as something‘s wrong with it and it needs to be redone for the store or the label decided to pull it.

I've noticed when I went to go purchase more music by a few Japanese pop artists they no longer appear in the iTunes Store. Rather disappointing as now the only option I have to purchase music by the artists is to import the physical CDs directly from an import specialist.
I was wondering if somewhere on the iTunes/Apple site any information as to why certain artists are pulled from the store.

The upgrade to 100% iTunes Plus this month coincided with the disappearance of quite a few Japanese artists from the iTunes Store.
I have not seen any announcement from either Apple or the labels on the reasons.
You can check other online music download stores, or you can buy CDs.

There are a LOT of artists missing from ITUNES. Some seminal albums. For example I wanted to download Ian Dury and the Blockheads (amongst many other artists) but ITUNES does not have a single track by him. Is this because ITUNES is particularly American in their outlook? or some other reason? How do you ask them to make certain artists and albums available for download?

You need to be aware that often the reason any given artist isn't represented on the iTunes Music Store is that the artist or their record company won't license Apple to resell their tracks. This often happens with a deceased artist; the rights are sown up in estates.
So by all means submit your request, but don't be surprised if nothing happens; often there's nothing Apple can do. In the case of The Blockheads, you might want to contact them directly and ask them to get their CDs onto the iTMS.

It's not clear from your post, but you do realise
that if you import a cd as a compilation, it will not
appear under artists? This is done to save the iPod
being cluttered up with single artists entries who
might have only one song listed.
I wasn't aware of that. It's true that I haven't been using the "compilation" tag for a long time. I've only started using it with iTunes 7 as otherwise with Coverflow I would have one album cover for each artist in a compilation. Before that my compilations weren't tagged as such as that is quite probably why each artist from compilations showed up when browsing by artists.

Where Does Missing Sync Store Call List on OS X?

Where does Missing Sync store the call list? Or, for that matter,
the contacts list and other stuff on OS X? What format is it in?

We'll assume for now, that all the songs and albums in your iTunes Library are correctly labelled (dangerous assumption, by the way!), and that a Compilation album is one with songs by different artists. Unfortunately, the music industry (bless their little cotton socks!) often mark an album by one artist, that has a collection of their songs from old albums, as a compilation! iTunes doesn't think it is!
The missing artists will be those who only appear on Compilation albums. For example, if you have one song by Fleetwood Mac in your Library, and it's on a multi-artist Compilation album, then Fleetwood Mac will not be listed in the Artists menu. But, if you then import a Fleetwood Mac album (or even a Fleetwood Mac single) into your Library, then not only will Fleetwood Mac appear under Artists, but the song by them in the Compilation album will also be listed.
One way to sort this out is to remove the Compilations option from the Main Menu and the Music Menu on your iPod. To do this, go to Settings/Main Menu/Compilations and press the Select (centre) button to turn off the tick. Then repeat this in the Settings/Music Menu/Compilations.
You should now find the missing artists listed in the Artists menu.
By the way, I now routinely check all albums I import from CD into my iTunes Library. Before I start the import procedure, I make sure that Compilation CD is turned on (highlight the album in the import window and right-click/Compilation CD) if it really is a multi-artist CD - and off if it's a single artist CD. Once imported, I manually change the album info to; (highlight album and select ) File/Get Info/Info/Album Artist has "Various Artists" in the box. Make sure it's the Album Artist box, not the Artist box.

All songs on iPod missing after store purchase - but they're still there!

This is an odd problem.
I have a 30G ipod which I've been using trouble-free for a year. The other day I purchased a new album in iTunes and, when it had been downloaded, dragged it to my connected iPod within iTunes (I'm set to manual sync). It transferred fine; I ejected the ipod and went on my merry way. When I powered up the ipod later, the ONLY album/artist listed on the whole ipod was the new one I just downloaded. All my other (24GB) songs were MISSING. There were no errors reported by itunes, the ipod, or my computer. I'm using the recent itunes 6.0.4.2. Windows XP.
I've done this same thing (purchase songs, manually sync them to ipod) a thousand times before with no trouble. This is only the 3rd or 4th purchase I've made using the latest itunes version (with the new protection scheme) so I suspect it has something to do with that.
However when I access my ipod on my computer NOT through itunes (e.g. just as a USB storage device); I see all my songs still under the various music folders:

F??
Where F?? are folders F00 to F49. All the song files are still there, and I also found the new songs mixed in (with the most recent modification times). Also, the ipod itself, while it only lists the 10 songs I added - says that it has 24GB of data on it.
Clearly an index somewhere is corruped and needs to be rebuilt. In the iTunes directory on the ipod, the "iTunesDB" file is only 268K - far too small for 24GB of music. But, this is ONLY on the ipod - all of my songs within itunes still show up.
I do not want to re-download or "restore" (wipe) my ipod; as I have many playlists that would be lost, and a fair amount of uncopyrighted mp3 files on the ipod which are long gone from my computer and hence would be some difficulty to restore from backups.
Is there any way to rebuild the ipod index (or fix this problem)??

"Other" is songs etc that have become corrupted, so the iPod no longer knows what to do with them.
The usual fix for "Other" is to use iTunes to Restore the iPod (there's a button for it in iTunes). Since a Restore removes everything from the iPod (and restores the iPod to factory new), I suspect the only thing you can do is remove everything from the iPod and then put it back again.

How can i sort music by artist in the store?

I want to browse the store by artists? why cant this be done, im so tired of seeing the popular artists. sometimes i just want to browse the store by artist. If you know what genre you want to look in, but dont know the artist or group name, just a simple list alphabetically or artist or groups would be cool to look at.

Currently, the only way to search by artist is to type the artist's name in the search field.
If you click on iTunes > Provide iTunes Feedback your feature request will be reviewed by the folks who design the website.

Some artists missing from 'browser'

I've recently been finding that several artists are not appearing in my 'browser' display under Artist. If I search for them, I can find them in the search results. But in my list of Artists, they simply do not appear, even though the tag has the artist clearly marked.
And these are all albums bought from the iTunes music store. I try changing the Artist name slightly, but it still will not appear.
For instance, Night Ranger, Enya, David Bowie, none of these people, although bought right from iTunes will appear in the browser list, and nothing I can do will make them there. But I can search for them, and find them easily enough.
Anyone seen that before? Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

Wow, interesting, thanks! They were marked as part of a compilation, and unchecking that somehow made them appear. But the weird thing is, I definitely have other stuff in my library as compilation, but the artists still appear.
BUT, that seems to have fixed it, so thanks!

Hi Becky: If you are running OS 10.6.6 or higher you should have the App store. If this is your OS, then you may need to download the Combo updater to restore the App store. See the link below. Please note it is a large file.

All artists missing but one when leaving coverflow view

I think this is a bug, but I wanted to see if anyone else sees this behavior as desireable.
I start by viewing artists in the "list" mode (ipod held vertically). Then I switch to coverflow by rotating the ipod. Next I select an album and then a track. Now, occasionally if I navigate back to the artist list view, the only artist listed is the one for the album I had selected in coverflow.
The only way I've found to get the entire list back is to go into the "songs" list and then switch back to artist.
Is this behavior by design?

Well, LION 10.7.1 is here....informing us the "Missing plug-in" issue is fixed....
And its NOT... no change at all.
Not sure what kind of UAT testing they conduct....but its obviously not that extensive...
And no options to re-install LION Safari yourself....
So we all have to just hope someone at Apple....does something...as this is embarrassing as we cant even watch there own promo movies on there own web site...on their own software.. FAIL!

When I go the Artists there are quite a few missing, they are not from compilation albums either. How can I get all the artists to show up?

The songs may not be part of a compilation, but does iTunes know that? Check the setting.

Artists missing from Ipod

Artists that are in my computer Itunes library are missing on my Ipod after synching. Songs are all there under the Ipod Songs tab listing the Artist but under the Artists tab the Artist is gone.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8 and view the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. Artists missing from column browser

Today I noticed some artists are missing from the artist list in the column browser in iTunes 11.0.2
No idea why some artists are there and others are not. They do appear in the artist view.

Sure, you can select multiple tracks and use CTRL-I to *Get Info*, then on the Options tab set *Part of a Compilation* to No. You might also find my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums useful.
