Artist Name Cuttoff in Coverflow View using iTunes 8.1

So I installed iTunes 8.1 and now whenever I view any of my playlists in Coverflow, the second line of typing under each picture of album art (aka the artist's name) has the bottom half of it cutoff. This only occurs when I view it as the hybrid of coverflow and regular list style, not when coverflow is fully expanded. I tried reinstalling iTunes twice... no change. I doubt I can fix this until a new update comes out, I mostly want to know if anyone else is having this happen because I can't find any other similar complaints. Thanks.

I have this too. In the previous version of iTunes if you right clicked in coverflow you had the option to increase and decrease the size of the text below the album cover, I had mine set quite large. In 8.1 there is no longer a right click menu in coverflow so there is no option to change the text size. It must have been taken away so you could not alter the text size but with upgrading from a previous version it has kept the setting but is unable to display it.

  • Problem sorting by Artist in grid view using Itunes 8

I have a lot of albums that contain various artist and i set up the info in each with the correct artist name and "various artist" as the album artist. In itunes 8 when i use grid view and use show by artist it displays by album artist putting all the albums by "various artist" in one grid. It's correct in list and cover flow view. How can i set the grid view to display by the artist of the song and not the album. (ex. Soundtrack from the motion picture Tropic Thunder: Display "U Can't Touch This" under MC Hammer instead of Various Artist)

Actually, the grid view should be using the Album Artist tag. When the Album Artist tag was added in iTunes 7.0, the intent was to allow users to properly tag songs based on the artist and any guest artists. For instance, on Luther Vandross’ album +Give Me The Reason+ Track 6, “There’s Nothing Better Than Love” is a duet. Therefore, while the Artist tag for the rest of the tracks should be ‘Luther Vandross’, the correct tag content for Track 6 is ‘Luther Vandross duet with Greory Hines’. Without having ‘Luther Vandross’ in all the Album Artist tags for all 9 album tracks, iTunes would split the album as if there are two albums of the same name by different artists.
The other situation are producer-driven albums like Quincy Jones’ +The Dude+ or +Back On The Block+ . These are not compilations, as you described, because the songs were produced for the albums and Quincy Jones, although not a performer on any of the tracks, is the album artist. The exception is soundtracks that are compilations of songs typically produced for a given film. Like the situation you describe, each track has a different artist, so by having ‘Quincy Jones’ in the Album Artist tag for each track, iTunes maintains the integrity of the album and keeps the tracks properly grouped.
(Now if Apple would only acknowledge and fix the persistent bug that does not carry these grouping and sorting features over to the user’s music folder when they have enabled “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” in iTunes’ preferences.)
The situation you are specifically referencing is that of tagging compilations—albums that consist of tracks by various artists where there is no actual album artist—but you have used the Album Artist tag effectively forcing iTunes to see them as single artist albums. I also tag compilations—e.g., Various Artists (Hip Hop), Various Artists (Jazz), Various Artists (R&B), Various Artists (Soundtrack), etc.—, so I understand what you have done. Unfortunately, the fix for forcing the grid view to recognize individual artists in compilations may require you to clear out the Album Artist tag on all of your compilation album tracks forcing iTunes to revert to the Artist tag in place of the Album Artist tag.
What I would suggest is clearing the Album Artist tag of just one compilation and seeing what happens. If the album appears under “Unknown Artist”, or some other generic listing, in the grid view then iTunes only recognizes the Album Artist tag and I am at a loss as to what you could do. If it works as you hope, then you can go ahead an clear out the Album Artist field on the rest of your compilation albums.
The downside of clearing the Album Artist field is that iTunes will revert to its pre-version 7 habits and break up the albums; that is, a compilation with 12 tracks by 12 different artists will appear in the various views as 12 different albums albeit with the same name and cover art. To keep the tracks properly grouped in other views, you will need to mark all of the tracks from the compilation albums as “Part of a compilation” in the info dialog.

  • Sorting artist names different with English and German iTunes

I just got a iPod and theres only one thing that bothers me. I used to use OS X with English language and then artists are sortet after the name, ignoring the "the" in many names ("the Beatles" sorted under "B"). I recently switched the laguage to German and then all the artist with "the" in the name (like "the Beatles" ) are sorted under "T" in iTunes and on my iPod. Is is possible to change this? I want to use german language on my Mac, but I still want the artists names sorted like they used to be.
    I´m using iTunes 7.0.2 and OS X 1.4.3.

You will want to refer to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base which explains the new sorting rules that have been introduced in recent versions of iTunes.
To workaround it, you will have to make use of the also recently introduced Sorting tab that is described at the bottom of the above-referenced article.
You can get "The Who" sorted as "Who" by entering Who in the Artist Sort field.
Information you enter in the Sort fields will not change what is displayed for those items, only how it is sorted.

  • Anyone having problems with CoverFlow view in iTunes 8?

Okay I've heard some rumors about iTunes 8.0 on Windows having errors in CoverFlow view with music, music video, TV show, audiobook and movie related album artwork not showing up correctly. I am writing to ask if anyone has noticed a problem like this on iTunes 8.0 for Mac?
Everything still seems to be working fine for me in iTunes 7.7.1 as much as I'd like to upgrade to iTunes 8.0 don't want to risk problems developing. CoverFlow works just fine for me on my Mac Mini running OS X Tiger 10.4.11 within iTunes but don't want to risk upon upgrading to iTunes 8.0 it causing problems.
Every time a major new update to iTunes or other software by Apple comes out it can cause problems. I remember when I installed iTunes 7.0.0 afterwards iTunes kept crashing as soon as I tried to open it. I know there are problems on the Windows side but don't want to risk messing with my existing iTunes software if it breaks, or any feature within it like CoverFlow breaks down.

you should just reinstall it again, usually it fixes bugs on its own.

  • Some of the Artist names are not showing up in iTunes or my iPod

I have a couple of songs by Yanni on iTunes and my iPod Video (5th Generation). The songs are listed and so are the albums, but the artist name is not. I tried retyping the artist's name but that didn't work.

  • Problem with coverflow view on itunes

recently ive been having quite a lot of trouble with itunes and ipods. ive had two replacement 80gb classics and am wondering if the problem could be my itunes. Ive tried uninstalling all of the components and reinstalling but the coverflow problem persists. Everything works normally on itunes but when i switch to coverflow view and scroll through the album covers, it also flows through the track thats playing. I would normally just disregard this problem and work around it but i am wondering if there could be a problem with my itunes causing my ipod problems. (the first ipod would only sync around 500 songs and then freeze, the second just had a hardrive failure) any help would be greatly appreciated

    hmmm.
reinstallation should not remove your apps and stuff, but one never know
is the size and all the codecs settings correct?

  • Why are my artist and song titles abbreviated after using iTunes?

Hello, this is my first post. I looked for a similar question but did not find one.
I was given an iPod Shuffle (3rd generation), and as soon as I put my music files on itunes and sync my Shuffle, I get abbreviated song/artist titles. For example: Beatles - Let it Be becomes "XFVK".
I had to manually go into each file on my Shuffle and reenter everything to how it should be. I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue. Is this a matter of a setting in itunes, or is it just how the shuffle works?

I'm surprised that no one has responded to this one. I'm just asking if the abbreviated song titles that occur once the songs have gone through itunes is avoidable, or if that's how everyone has them.
Thank you, any input would be greatly appreciated.
Once again, the best way I can explain the symptom is:
White Stripes - The Denial Twist becomes CFQD
Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombone becomes FYEW
There's no rhyme or reason, it just does it with all of my music.
    Please help!

  • Using iTunes directly on Touch & changing usernames?

    Hello !
My niece has an iPod Touch. Although she has her own iTunes acct, she was unable to use her own home computer (an OLD mac mini) because the software is not updated enough to sync, etc. She comes to my house and uses my computer and my iTunes account to download the songs and apps that she wants.
NOW she has recently gotten wifi in her house and of course now she can use the Touch to directly go to iTunes. The problem is that the account showing on her iPod is MY account. She cannot figure out how to switch the username and try to sign in to her own account and start using that one instead.
    Can anyone help with this?
Further, if she does switch the username to her own account, would she lose all of the songs that she has already synced to her Touch, being that she downloaded them from my account/computer? I can't logically figure this out since I don't have an iPod !!
    Thanks for your help.

To sign out, go to Settings/Store and tap on "sign out"
For more details see http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_3.1_UserGuide.pdf page 125:
Use Store settings to change or create an iTunes Store account. By default, the iTunes account you’re signed in to when you sync iPod touch with your computer appears in Store settings. You can change accounts on iPod touch to purchase music or applications from another account. If you don’t have an iTunes account, you can create one in Store settings. Go to www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/ for iTunes Store terms and conditions.
Sign in to an account: Choose Store and tap Sign in, then enter your user name and password.
View your iTunes Store account information: Choose Store and tap View Account, then type your password and follow the onscreen instructions.
Sign in to a different account: Choose Store and tap Sign out, then tap Sign in and enter your username and password.

  • Front Row shows artist names twice

    Hi,
I seem to have a re-appearing problem. I have an artist that has his name appearing twice in the Front Low artist list although in iTunes both of the albums (2 altogether) are under one artist name. I checked the actual files in iTunes folder and there is only 1 folder with the artist name..puzzled ??
is there a preference or something like that, that could cause the Front Row
so the artsit name twice ? Is there a way to check what artist names are
in a list that iTunes checks when it "guesses" what artist your about to write
    in the data field ??
    Thanks

I do have an iPod but none of these albums are synced there.
The Front Row list is my whole collection on a seperate account.
In fact I'm sure that the reason I have this trouble is this account as
I'm constantly mirroring my whole collection on 2 different Macs. I keep ripping on another Mac and then transering the audio files + the 2 iTunes data files
to the other Mac. I don't think it is misspelling AFAIK this should lead to two almost identically named artist folders and I have only one. Also like I said, I already sorted this out a month ago or so but now it seems to have re-appeared
    in Front Row.

  • ITunes 12: use 'Artist' name in "Artists view" rather than 'Album Artist'?

I.e. if I have an album with artist name X and album artist name Y it seems to sort by Y (the album artist name) in "Artists" view (i.e. the one with the pictures on the left)…is there a way to make it use the artist name (X) instead?
Say artist is "Johann Sebastian Bach", and album artist is "Sviatoslav Richter" (i.e. performer), I would rather it came in under "Johann Sebastian Bach" in the artists view, rather than "Sviatoslav Richter".
…the obvious solution is to switch X with Y, while laborious it does work, however, the problem is then when you have an album were a performer plays a bunch of different composers, this messes things up (breaks up the album in "Albums" and just makes a mess in general)…
In "Songs" view you can just switch between "Use Album Artists" and normal Artists…but in "Artists" view there appears to be no such setting and it seems Album Artist overrides Artist...

  • I used to be able to change track & artist names & other song info in "View" / "Info"; can no longer do

I used to be able to change track & artist names & other song info in "View" / "Info" (or Command I) but can no longer do. The info shows up "greyed". It seems to be on tracks from CDs I imported or downloaded from sources several years ago (pre Gracenotes).
Any suggestions on how to fix?
    Thanks!

I'm having a similar issue. I just downloaded new songs and I can't edit the information or artwork because they are all greyed out. I didn't have that problem until I upgraded to iTunes 11!

  • Importing song/artist names to iTunes using the file or folder names

    hello,
a friend of mine put all of his tracks onto a CD and gave me the CD to import to my library.
When I did this I noticed a convenient behavior which I have not been able to reproduce. iTunes automatically ID'ed both the song and artist name and separated them in iTunes to their corresponding columns.
when i do this, both artist and song name are lumped together into the song name column and i have to separate and cut and paste them out.
My friend put the albums in folders then a sub folder for artists and then inside that folder there were the song files.
How did he do it? I think it has something to do with using dashes or forward slashes or folders in the song file names, but I'm not sure how it works.

    Hello ,
    For iTunes :
Created a copy of the files in iTunes folder .
But before you delete the files from the desktop ,
    I suggest you check .
Finder > music > iTunes > iTunes Media
    For iPhoto :
I do not use this software so I do not know but
I can assume it's the same thing as iTunes .

  • IPhone 5 not showing artist name under each track in album view page like it used to

Hi. My iphone 5 is upto date software wise etc. When I go into music and select an album I get the track listing but no artist name under each track. All my music is correctly coded and it used to show up previously. Is this a change in the software or am I missing something? It's really annoying if you open a compilation as you have a track list but no way of knowing the artist unless you play the track.
    Please help.
