Artist name into filename

When I import a cd how do i get itunes to put the name of the artist in the actual file name so it will look like this?
Metallica - One.mp3
All is does so far now is this
One.mp3
and all the other info is stored in the tags.

I had the same problem but unforunately I had to fix the problem manually.
click on the song you want to edit go into file, click get info, and go into options and enter the info that you would like to have displayed. Once I did this Itune did the rest.

I would like to know if it is possible to do this...
I hate when song titles have names of artists on and i like to keep featuring artist in the artist section only.
the only problem is many artist albums will not group together on my ipod because the files come up as seperate artists.
example:

is there a way to keep the main artist as nelly as this would mean all his album would be in not in several

You could create playlists containing a particular artist's music or you could browse for the album instead of browsing for the artist.
Because of the vast numbers of similarly named artists, iTunes will not clump different artist names into one artist, unless it is only a matter of capitalization (the as opposed to The, etc.).

Importing song/artist names to iTunes using the file or folder names

hello,
a friend of mine put all of his tracks onto a CD and gave me the CD to import to my library.
When I did this I noticed a convenient behavior which I have not been able to reproduce. iTunes automatically ID'ed both the song and artist name and separated them in iTunes to their corresponding columns.
when i do this, both artist and song name are lumped together into the song name column and i have to separate and cut and paste them out.
My friend put the albums in folders then a sub folder for artists and then inside that folder there were the song files.
How did he do it? I think it has something to do with using dashes or forward slashes or folders in the song file names, but I'm not sure how it works.

Created a copy of the files in iTunes folder .
But before you delete the files from the desktop ,
I suggest you check .
Finder > music > iTunes > iTunes Media
For iPhoto :
I do not use this software so I do not know but
I can assume it's the same thing as iTunes .

Can you just create a new "Playlist", name it Bob Seger and drag what you want into the Playlist.

Music albums no longer have the artist name associated with it

I updated to IOS 5 and In transferrig all my music to the ipad1, some of the albums no longer have the artist name associated with it..So when I search by artist name, it only shows they have one album when it should be two..
Also switching between songs, artist, album is very very painfully slow..seems like the music app hangs sometimes.
Tried many times resyncing and deleting but didn't work..Anybody experiencing these problems??

I have the same problem, and after hours of trying to figure out the problem i finally did!! Its going to be a pain in the BUTT, but its the only way. :/
1. Look for the song file.
2. Right click and choose prefences
3. Go to details and edit the information
- "Title" aka songs name
- "Album artist"
- "Album"
-The rest of the stuff can be filled in if you want
4. Click OK
5. Drag it into itunes

How do I create albums in iTunes, change song names/artist names, etc!!??

Ack! Please help me! I am a total dummy and I have no clue how to use my iPod video 30GB. First, I connected iTunes and all my old songs (previously dl from kazaa and limewire) were transferred over, only since the sharers spelled the artist names differently, I have Led Zeppelin (and every other artist) spelled a million different ways so all of the songs are listed in my library separately.
So, um, I need to know how I can at least manage my albums or whatever so that I can put all songs by one artist in one place and just name it something different, and also, if I do this in iTunes and then hook up my iPod will it automatically update to reflect these new categorizations? Also...if none of that is possible, how do I delete all of the songs from my iPod and iTunes so that I can try to arrange them differently in my music folder so that when they're imported into iTunes they can all be placed together more correctly?
Could it have something to do with the fact that when I installed iTunes I selected the option to "Do it myself" rather than "iTunes do it for you" option when selecting the songs from my music folder? ANY help would be so so so greatly appreciated!!!!!

In iTunes, right click on the song and go click on the selection 'get song info' (Or somthing like that, I`m not 100% sure, but i think it it similiar) and you can change what you want in there.

Incorrect artist name for all songs by that artist

Recently something weird has happened to my music library on my iPhone 5S (iOS 8.2 before, but I've updated to 8.3 and still the issue persists). All the songs by a particular artist have the artist name listed wrongly. For example, I have about 50 Katy Perry songs from her 3 albums, and all of them are listed as "Katy Perry & Snoop Dogg", which is, by the way, the artist name for ONLY California Gurls. Funny thing is, the artist names display correctly on iTunes on my MacBook Pro. I've checked the info for the songs, and the names are correct under both Details and Sorting. This happens for a few other artists as well.
I've tried deleting the songs from my iPhone and re-syncing them back, still the same. I've tried changing the artist, album artist info for the songs, doesn't help. I've even re-synced my entire music library to my iPhone but that didn't work either.
Probably a bug but is there a workaround or a fix for this?

UPDATE!!!
Turns out that deleting glitchy albums from the phone and then re-syncing via Home computer's iTunes worked!
It just takes a bit longer to change over to the proper artist names!!!

So deleting music from iPhone Music Library and then going into your home iTunes Library and re-syncing/adding it to your iphone or device while it is plugged in via USB!

Music Artists' names appear as lowercase on my phone, but uppercase in iTunes?

So I have quite a few artists whose albums I've decided to put on my iPhone 5S and for some reason their names are showing up as all lowercase. At first I thought the ID3 tags weren't correct, but after using two ID3 tag editors (alongside the iTunes "get info" screen), I found that the tags weren't the issue. I also thought it might've been the actual phone itself; perhaps the software was corrupt, but I actually had to get my phone replaced today because the screen was lifting and after syncing to my library at home and looking at my Music app and seeing the artist field still reading as all lowercase, I figured it wasn't my phone. So what could it be? It's really strange seeing some artists cased correctly like "Grace Jones" and "Sam Smith", while also seeing others cased incorrectly like "prince" and "fka twigs".
Please help me figure out what is wrong with these artist fields. I have tried the following to no avail: restarting my computer, updating iTunes, deleting iTunes plist files, reinstalling iTunes, deleting and reading songs into iTunes, editing ID3 tags, changing the artists' name to something else and then back to the correct name, restarting my iPhone, and hard resetting my iPhone.
To clarify, the artists' names all read in correct case on iTunes, and only read in all lowercase on my iPhone.

Ok sorted it looks like the folder where the music is stored had changed to itunes media when all my music is in itunes music. I have reset the default folder back to itunes music and that seem to have solved the issue. Thanks for those that helped.

ITunes Artist Name Doesn't Transfer To iPhone

Hey everyone. I'm using an iPhone 5S, newest firmware, iTunes totally up to date on Mac. I had an issue where I had to delete all my songs on my phone, and put everything back on. After doing that, I noticed that a lot of songs I have aren't keeping the name of the artist that I've given the song, but instead reverting back to what iTunes store gives it. For Example, I buy a lot of video game soundtracks from iTunes. I rename all of the artists names to "Video Games" so they'll be sorted all together so they can all be easily found. So the composer for the Assassin's Creed soundtrack is Jesper Kid, but I change it to "Video Games". Prior to this incident all of them were listed as Video Games as the artist in iTunes and on my phone library. They have all now reverted back to Jesper Kid as the artist in my phone. However, in iTunes under the artist column, they are all still listed as video games, but when I move them to the phone, they don't stay Video Games and turn back into Jesper Kid. In the sorta options for every song, it's all listed to sort as "Video Games", Jesper Kid isn't listed anywhere in the sorting. Does anyone know why it's doing this? Are there any settings that I would need to change where the internet might change it back? If anyone knows anything please let me know, this is quite annoying and I've been doing it like this for years and I've never had this problem. Thanks a lot.

also I should note that other songs not done by Jesper Kid originally, now say Jesper Kid also. So everything that should say "Video Games" as the artist, now all say Jesper Kid, even though in iTunes they still say "Video Games" as the artist.

so i downloaded the song "kiss kiss" by chris brown into my playlist and into my library on itunes. it shows up in my iPod but when i go to "Artists" it doesn't show the song. it shows it in all of the other sections though (songs, english song playlist, albums, etc.)
what should i do?

Two things contribute to this.
One is that some songs might be tagged as Part Of A Compilation (see the Get Info on those songs/albums) in which case they will not show up under the artist.
Second, is that an artist needs at least two different Albums identified for their songs to all list under the artist. In other words, if you import a CD with album name then add a handful of misc songs without album names associated, those handful will not show up under the artist name.
But add an album name to at least one of those handful of misc. songs and then ALL of the songs should show up under the artist.
You don't have to do it for all of them, just enough to have two different albums identified with the artist. But in general, it is a good idea to make sure your tunes have Song name, artist name, and album name associated with them as a minimum.

I'm having trouble when I import new artists into Itunes. Suddenly, if it's a new artist
Itunes will sort it to the right genre list but won't list the artist. I tried "get info" for the
cd and sorting by artist name but still nothing comes up.
Any help?

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
iTunes doesn't do multi-layered sorts, or rather it does sometimes, but as users we have no control over them. Take, for example, the *Album by Year* view and you'll see that is has sub-ordering on quite a few values. In pseudo-SQL it's something like this:
SELECT * FROM Tracks ORDER BY Sort Album Artist, Year (Of 1st Track of Album), Sort Album, Disc #(Empties Last), Track #(Empties Last)
Where there is no Sort Album Artist value it is infered from Album Artist, Sort Artist or Artist. Where there is no Sort Album it is infered from Album.
When you click to sort on the Year column any previous ordering is discarded. If the tracks are in the wrong order then all you can do is click again to change between an ascending or descening sort.
A quick look at my tracks sorted by Genre suggests as if the result is something like this:
SELECT * FROM Tracks ORDER BY Genre, Sort Artist, Sort Album, Disc #(Empties Last), Track #(Empties Last)
Again, it doesn't matter which columns you click before selecting Genre tere's nothing you can do to get the sort you're after. Personally I'd stick with Album by Artist (which is actually Album by Album Artist) and turn on the Genre in the Column Browser so that you can show all albums in a particular genre in a sensible order.

Audition CS6 Changing Artist Names on Burned CD's

I am using Auditon CD6. I am importing mutliple songs from mutliple artists. I then match the volumes of the songs. Then I drag the songs into the CD list and arrange them. After burning the CD when I put the CD into a CD player it moves the artist names up one song. So in other words the first song has the artist from the second song listed wth it. The second song has the third artist listed with it. And so on. This has occured several times on different CD's and different artists during different sessions.Any ideas?

Sorry, risto. I should have been more precise. Though I did goof by including Windows in my note above. In plain ol' DOS, that list of characters is true, along with a couple I missed. But the Windows Joliet file system allows more of the old characters. Here's a now complete and proper list.
These are all characters reserved by the system in DOS.
? [ ] / \ = + : ; " , * |
In the Windows Joliet file system, these characters are not allowed.
? / \ : " * |
So the disk that dropped the commas must have been burned by straight DOS rules. Whereas the disk burned from Linux used Joliet rules.

How do I sort music in the iTunes library by Genre followed by Year instead of Artist Name?

I am currently using the iTunes Library to organize my music. I find that the library by default arranges music into folders by Artist Name. Is there any way to first make it arrange the music by Genre and then by Year instead of Artist Name within the folders? Since I have music in different languages and use this music in other music software as well, sorting by Genre will be extremely helpful. I hope someone can help me out.

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.

Is there a way to create a master doc page that automatically imports the current document file name into a desired location?
