Artist Sorting Issues or displaying artist name on iPod.

Hello,
I have been struggling with this for a while now and it's really becoming irksome.
I have to have a compliation CD displayed as Various Artists when searching through my iPod on Artist browse mode, yet once the individual songs are played i want to be able to view the actual artist.
For instance i have a CD called Blues Essentials with various songs by different artists, i need these so show up under the same artist search reference as "Various Artists" however when the song is played it would be nice to see the actual recording artist, i have tried a combination of various renaming and nothing seems to work

Whatever is entered in the "Artist" field in iTunes will be displayed as the artist when you're navigating to the artist and when the song's actually playing.
What you're asking to do would require two different fields for two different sets of information.
One possibility is to change all the "Artists" to the actual recording artists and instead of navigating by artist on your iPod, navigate by album.

  • Missing Artist names in iPod under lookup but the song is there

I have all the approx 7,000 tunes on my LapTop that sync's into my iPod OK but there are some missing "Artist" names in my iPod when I lookup by Artist but the song is there in song lookup and it has the Artist name it the display.
Some answers to some questions, my helper's maybe asking themselves are............
I've loaded the songs into iTunes from the web as well as via CD's online with "Grace Notes" inputting song info also with me off line loading in songs from my internal and external hard drive. I have converted all songs that weren't under the option (create an ACC Version). My understanding this is this to create a .mp3 file within the iTunes Music Library Folder. I would then delete the originally song
Any help or questions for me so far?
    Befuddled......

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a song info window, and by selecting "options" you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • Repeating artist name on ipod !!!!

how Do you get red of the repeating of artist name on your ipod ???? Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you mean multiple entries for what appears to be the same artist?
Make sure they are all spelt in an identical manner, even an extra space that you might not notice can make a difference. I have found instances where the spacebar has created extra stop at the end of the line. The quickest way is to sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist say "Nirvana", hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the changes. If you are updating manually follow the instructions above with the iPod connected and carry out the changes directly on the iPod's song list.

  • Artists name on ipod comes up multiple times.

Some artists names comes up multiple times? Why is that? And how do you stop it from happening? And yes they are all spelled correctly....

The names may be spelt correctly but even an extra space that you might not notice can make a difference. I have found instances where the spacebar has created extra stop at the end of the line. The quickest way to eliminate these discrepancies is to sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. • Plz help, numerous artist names on iPod

hi guys, i jus got a 30gb ipod and when i put my albums on, my iPod shows two artist names and one of them is correct, the other just has one of their songs. i hate unorganized music so can you please help. thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can highlight all songs by the same artist or in the same album and then perform the steps Damon listed. I find this way to be easier and work better the first time.
This is usually caused by extra spaces at the end of the artist name or some minor change in it. I like highlighting all the songs by the same artist then going to get info better as you can make all of them match at once.
    To do this:
    1) Highlight all songs by the same artist
    2) Right click one, making sure all remain highlighted, and go to get info. Click OK/Yes to the message that pops up.
    3) Retype the artist field.
    4) Click OK.
All of the songs you selected should now have identical artist information and appear under one person.
Once you are done with this, update your iPod with iTunes.

  • Changing song names/artist names on ipod

When I initially put all my songs on the ipod some of the song titles and artist names were wrong - i went back into itunes and fixed them all but when it updated the ipod it didn't change any of them on the ipod. Is there something I am not doing?

When you have the ipod plugged in have you tried to click on the names in the ipod folder to where a box comes around each name? Try this and it will let you type in a new name.

  • Sort Issue on KM Document Name

    Hi,
I am using a layout set to display a list of documents with the
    following components :
    Layout Set u2013 ConsumerTable
    Layout Controller u2013 SimpleLayoutController
    Collection Renderer u2013 ConsumerTableCollectionRenderer
    ResourceRenderer u2013 ConsumerResourceRenderer
    CommandGroup u2013 DetailsGroup
I have a list of documents in a KM folder and I sort it by the name.
But it seems that there is some problem with the sorting of the
document name. The list of documents in the KM folders is as follows :
    STA.001.01 GLD Policy Template.doc
    STA.001.02 GLD Standard Template.doc
    STA.001.03 GLD Procedure Template.doc
STA.001 Standards for Group Level Documents.pdf
When I sort the document name in ascending order, the document "STA.001
Standards for Group Level Documents.pdf" is below the document
    "STA.001.03 GLD Procedure Template.doc"
Shouldn't the document "STA.001 Standards for Group Level
    Documents.pdf"
    be the first listing document.
How could KM take a "." with more precedence than a white space when
sorting in ascending order of document name?
Is this a bug on the Collection Renderer?
    Thanks.
    Mike

    Hi Chinmay,
    Thanks for your reply.
from what you said, the sort order is correct?
I know that renaming the document would solve the problem but I am not allow to rename the document.
    STA.001.01 GLD Policy Template.doc
STA.001 Standards for Group Level Documents.pdf
You mean the blank space is disregarded in the sorting?
I still don't understand why STA.001.01 GLD Policy Template.doc should be the first in the list instead of
STA.001 Standards for Group Level Documents.pdf
    Can anyone help to explain?
    Thanks.

  • When I add artists to my ipod/iphone the artist name displays twice

When I go to add artists as a group to my ipod nano or iphone 4, the artist name comes up twice spelt differently.  eg I see, "Black Eyed Peas" and "The Black Eyed Peas" from the Artist check list.  Please note these songs are not on my iphone/ipod yet, this is me merely looking to select and add them to my iphone/ipod.  Some of the songs I have by The Black Eyed Peas are from different albums but I have ensured they are all sorted by "The Black Eyed Peas" under "Get Info".  I've also set the tracks to be 1 of 14 for one album and 1 of 1 for the songs that I got from compilation CD's.
I've found multiple help pages but none of them fixed the issue I am having.  I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 for windows 7.  Can anyone fix this?  It's itunes that's the issue it's not the device I am tying to sync it to.

The same thing happened to me when I updated to the new software when iPhone 4S came out.

  • Can't override artist name when sorting by artist

iTunes has selected about half my library of Nine Inch Nails (hasn't been updated or shifted by me for years) and is displaying the artist name as "seasonsinthesky", which I've never heard of - but only when I'm browsing by artist (i.e. all data appears correct when browsing by Song).
All the "Get Info" data is correct, but it won't pick up "Nine Inch Nails" in search and doesn't display that half of the artist files under that artist name. I would love to fix this, but there appears to be nothing to actually manually correct, as the data and the filing system all seem correct!
This seems to have just happened with iTunes 11 and I've only just noticed it. It also doesn't appear to have happened with any other artists.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

    Hi AurelianoNile,
Thanks for your response. I have checked the sort tab and all the data appears correct. (And identical to the other half of the NIN tracks that are still behaving correctly).
    I'm still stuck

  • Artist for sorting issues

    Hi,
I have more and more Asian artists on my iTunes player and for the accuracy of last fm scrobbling I'm using the Asian alphabets, but as I can't read (and memorize) Asian alphabets I use the romanized equivalents in the "for sorting" ("pour le tri" in French) fields, BUT we can't enter an artist name for sorting for several tracks at the same time like we can for the artist and title fields, that's a big issue, so for now I use the "artist of the album" instead of "artist for sorting", do Apple plan to fix the limited use of the "for sorting" feature?
    Best.

There is a way of entering sort fields on multiple tracks.
First enter and save the information in one track and save it.
The select the track and right click, you will discover an apply sort field option which gives several ways of adding the sort field to other tracks.

  • IPhone 6 Plus (iOS 8.2) Displaying Wrongs Artist Names

    Hello Readers,
I hope this somehow makes it's way to someone at Apple or anyone who may be able to help me:
A few days ago, I updated to iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 6 Plus (128 GB/Sprint). Then I noticed that the artist names were incorrect. First I thought maybe it was a glitch, so I restored my iPhone from my backup, but it was exactly the same. So then I checked iTunes on my Mac and everything was correct, then lastly I checked my iPod Touch which syncs with the same Mac and the same music and everything there was correct.
I cannot seem to figure out what's going on, because it all started when I updated to iOS 8.2, and it's very annoying because it's on some songs.
Some of songs that I noticed that are incorrect are Michael Jackson's "Love Never Felt So Good (Duet With Justin Timberlake)", when I play that song it says "Michael Jackson Feat. Akon" on the artist info, but that is not how I have it on my Mac or how it appears on my iPod Touch.
I purchased Michael Jackson's Xscape album both as CD and from the iTunes Store and both versions display the wrong artist info for "Love Never Felt So Good (Duet With Justin Timberlake)".
Here are some screen shots so you can see what I'm talking about:
If you know how to fix this, please help me and other iOS 8.2 users who are going through this.
    THANK YOU,
    Luis

    Hey there!
That sure sounds unpleasant. Are the tracks affected only purchased items from the iTunes Store? If so, give this a whirl and let me know if it helps you out:
Remove the songs from your iOS device by sliding left on the track and tapping "Delete". They are not permanently deleted as they will be retrieved from your account in later steps.
Navigate to Settings > iTunes and App Store  then tap on your Apple ID and press "Sign Out"
    3) Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Enter your passcode if necessary and proceed. (*NOTE: Resetting All Settings will remove certain information from your device such as the selected background on home and lock screen, remove your passcode and general settings. You may have to re-enter this kind of information once iPhone reboots)
Once your device turns back on, navigate to Settings > iTunes and App Store. Renter your Apple ID and password.
Launch the iTunes Store app from the home screen on your device.
Retrieve your purchases by tapping on "More", located at the bottom right corner of the app. Under the "Purchased" section, find the songs you've removed and tap on the cloud icon to retrieve your purchases.
I can only speculate that this issue is related to settings on your device. It's possible that the issue persists because you've restored a backup where the bug was located in the first place. The steps above should help. Try it out and let me know if that works for you.
    Cheers!

  • Same Artist Name Displayed Twice In iPod Menu.

Lately if I put 1 or 2 songs in my itunes by the same artist but it's not bought off itunes the artist name will show up twice on my ipod. I have the latest itunes and everything is spelled correctly. PLEASE HELP!

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
So to correct this, in the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".
    See if that works.

  • Sorting artist names different with English and German iTunes

I just got a iPod and theres only one thing that bothers me. I used to use OS X with English language and then artists are sortet after the name, ignoring the "the" in many names ("the Beatles" sorted under "B"). I recently switched the laguage to German and then all the artist with "the" in the name (like "the Beatles" ) are sorted under "T" in iTunes and on my iPod. Is is possible to change this? I want to use german language on my Mac, but I still want the artists names sorted like they used to be.
    I´m using iTunes 7.0.2 and OS X 1.4.3.

You will want to refer to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base which explains the new sorting rules that have been introduced in recent versions of iTunes.
To workaround it, you will have to make use of the also recently introduced Sorting tab that is described at the bottom of the above-referenced article.
You can get "The Who" sorted as "Who" by entering Who in the Artist Sort field.
Information you enter in the Sort fields will not change what is displayed for those items, only how it is sorted.

  • Alphabetical sorting of Music Artists [Name of Artist] All Songs?

When I go to Music>Artists>[Name of Artist]>All Songs, it sorts the songs by album, is there a way to have this sorted alphabetically instead, without regard to album? Basically I want a way to view an alphabetical list of songs by a certain artist without making a million playlists. This would only apply to Music>Artists>[Artist]>All Songs, I want everything else to stay as is. This is for a current gen Ipod Classic. Also, would doing this (if it's even possible) mess up the sorting of artists who I only have one album for (I would want these to stay sorted by track number)?

Regarding the playlists, just click on the NAME column within each playlist to sort the list by name. Make sure the shuffle icon is not selected before you do this. Your playlists will be in Track Name order now. (You must do this for EACH playlist)
I believe when choosing an individual artist, then choosing all albums by that artist, the tracks will be sorted by album name then track number per album, so the ALBUMS will be played in alphabetical order, but the songs will play in the track order of each album. There is no way to chage this, as far as I know.
There may be a workaround for this by removing all the track numbers from all of your files. However, this will mess up your album order if you ever wish to listen to individual albums.
To each his own, I know, but hearing all songs in alphabetical order drives me insane.

  • Ipod will not display track and artist name when i play a song

ipod will not display track and artist name when i play a song... i cant see the the volume display to adjust it eiether. Everyting shows up in the menus just not on the now playing screen.... any suggestions?

Try restoring your iPod. Just be aware that restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
