Artists in iTunes Library starts with Z instead of A

Hi guys,
My iTunes library's artists starts with Z, instead of being in alphabetical order. It didn't use to be like this. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Try clicking on the toolbar at the top of the artist column (on the word "artist"). When I do this on my MacBook it changes back and forth between starting from A and starting from Z. You should also see a little arrow next to the word "artist" that points up and down when you press the toolbar button. "Up" means starting from the top, and down means starting from the bottom.

  • What are files in iTunes library starting with ".BC."?

    I was reviewing my hard drive usage and noticed a lot of hidden files in the iTunes library which have the prefix ".BC." followed by some random-seeming characters (for example, ".BC.3DoeaY"). There are thousands of these files, and they take up a lot of space.
    They seem to be duplicates of various MP3s and MP4s in my library (they are identical in size to those files, and doing the "file" command on them reports that they are MP3 or MP4).
    What are these files? Why are they there? Is it safe to remove them?

    Put it back the way it was, if you move files in Win Explorer, then iTunes loses it's placemarker to the files, as you've found.
    Then use iTunes to move the files.

  • Ipod Touch : on the ipod the Artist List is now filled with AlbumArtist instead of Artists

    Hi There,
    Since the upgrade to iOS 5 on the Ipod ( or the NEW Itunes , one of them ) ... I now have a problem...
    My iPOD Touch , always did what is was supposed to do ... , click on Music - Artist and it listed almost all the 5000+ Artists that were on the ipod ... easy for searching if i wanted to look up an artist of song ....BUT something changed after the updates....
    When I now select ARTIST on the ipod to search ... I have a VERY short list.... after deleting ALL of my music and re putting it back into iTunes , and synching with the iPod , .. I noticed it was still the same .... , maybe 200 artists.... instead of 5000+ ....
    In Itunes I opened up the column ALBUM ARTISTS.... and because one of the updates before , ruined all the groups of Albums, as it was looked up to be ONE album as all of the Album Artists were the same ... I renamed all of the Albums to Album Artists but kept the Artists on the same album as they were....
    for example a CD called, Best of Dance features 30 songs with 30 different artists ... so I renamed all the album artists to Various Artists to see ( and PLAY ) all the songs if I selected the Album ... ( were otherwise it will play ony THAT song I selected ... ) ..... so most of my Album Artists are "Various Artists"...
    Tis all worked fine untill the updates as now my iPod SHOWS me under the list of ARTISTS ... the ALBUM ARTISTS... and that is almost all Various Artists and so it is VERY hard to search on Artists ... as not impossible ...I am not sure what happend but it seems iTunes changed the list of the Artists to Album Artists....
    I found a script Artists to Album Artists ... from Doug Scripts .. but that runs only on a MAC instead of me using Windows 7 ....
    Any Help would be nice ...., or any help to convert all the Artists to Album Artists could be a sort of workaround solution..
    Regards Patwo

    if you dont have many songs it wont show.
    otherwise try reboot. hold home and sleep for 10 seconds, and then hold sleep for 3 seconds. otherwise click restore in itunes when plugged in

  • Updating itunes library occurs with sharing an iTunes Library

    Hi,
    I have two macs, one of the macs has the iTunes library on a hard drive connected to it, lets called it "Mac1". I have another mac called "Mac2" which I mount the hard drive from "Mac1".
    So I go about and make sure iTunes is not running on "Mac1", then go ahead and start iTunes on "Mac2". After I'm done and shutdown iTunes, if I restart iTunes on "Mac1" I get the message "updating itunes library" which takes a while since I have a large iTunes library.
    Any ideas? I'm very careful to shutdown on iTunes on one computer before starting it up on another.
    Thanks for any input, this is driving me crazy

    I think I may take your suggestion and just have separate libraries.
    you can use _*Home Sharing*_ to keep them in sync.
    also, there are 3rd party tools such as
    PowerTunes
    TuneRanger
    Syncopation
    however, a "one-iTunes-library-with-multiple-computers" approach is doable. click here for information.

  • Device linked to another iTunes library fix with no restore needed

    Very weird experience but had a happy ending!
    I Set up a new iPhone 6 on the device itself (iOS 8, connected to MY iTunes account and iCloud etc.).
    I then ripped a CD to iTunes on my MacBook to put onto the iPhone (again with MY iTunes account). Connected the iPhone to the Mac and iTunes told me it was a new device and wanted to set it up. I was given 2 options, 'New Device' or 'Restore from backup' (i have 3 backups on my system, my old iPhone, father in-laws and my mothers). I chose 'New device' and clicked next. iTunes then threw an error (I didn't catch what it said), I clicked ok and it took me back to the 2 options again, I clicked cancel and unplugged my iPhone.
    When I plugged it back in, iTunes took me to the iPhone's 'Summary' tab (device file space etc), i click manual organisation of music and videos and clicked sync and received the error that it was sync to another iTunes library (my father-in-law's iTunes Library!! - No restore took place on the phone, the iPhone hadn't been connected to any other computer or had any other iTunes account set up on it other than my own) and that I had to erase and restore the device!
    Solution (for me) -
    This annoyed me big time but I bit the bullet and took the following steps towards erasing my iPhone as requested:-
    1. Backed up the iPhone to the Mac (not iCloud)
    2. Clicked the 'Manual management of music/videos"
    3. Click 'Sync' in the bottom right
    4. Got the 'Wrong iTunes library' error
    5. Followed the steps to erase the device
    6. Screen flicked back to the device 'Summary' page instantly, device didn't erase or restore and the library was now recognised and I could drag the newly ripped music to the device!!!
    It was a strange and annoying hiccup but I searched for an answer online and couldn't find one. So incase anybody else gets this weirdness I thought I'd share my experience.

    What that means, is the iPod is synced to a specific itunes database file.
    C:\Users\~username~\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
    If you didn't make a copy of that file before you restored your PC, then it's gone.
    You will have to start over with all your play lists, play counts, ratings, etc.

  • How do I stop iTunes from starting with Windows?

    Hi there.
    After installing iTunes 7, it launches with Windows despite there being no registry entries or Startup folder entries. I also can't find any preference settings in iTunes to change this. I don't want iTunes starting with Windows as it's a CPU hot and system drag as it is without it slowing down my startup.
    What's even more odd I find is that, if for whatever reason iTunes does NOT start with Windows, I don't have an Internet connection. It's strange but the connection between the two is absolute. If I reboot and iTunes starts with Windows, I have my Internet back.
    Any suggestions? I can't find anything through searches. I've also checked for viruses, spyware, backdoors, etc.
    Thanks.

    It turns out it was the Yahoo iTunes plugin.

  • Itunes Library sharing with multiple ipods and 2 pc's

    Hi, I have a new Ipod nano and want to use my wifes itunes library with my ipod. Which according to the tech stuff I can share the content by enabling on wifes pc. Done that, which I can now see library on my Acer laptop. However, I can't sync my playlist from her pc to my itunes. I want to download my own podcasts etc.. not clutter her itunes pc. When I transfer the ipod back to my pc it then wants to delete and re-sync.
    We have 3 ipods in the house and 2 pc's.
    Whats the best way of using the ipods and getting the most out of itunes?
    Thanks

    If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
    Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
    There are several different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • How to transfer iTunes library along with iPhone settings on Leopard?

    I intend to perform an install of Leopard on a new hard disk and will be importing the iTunes library from my old hard disk. Any idea if the import will also allow all the iPhone settings, notes, and other data will be imported along with the music and videos? I know that iCal and Addressbook settings can be imported easily. How about network settings, mails, notes, etc.?

    I do not believe that you will be able to import those setting from an external drive.
    I wouldn't worry about your iPhone stuff. Aside from the calendar, contacts, photos, music and videos there really isnt anything else that syncs from the iPhone yet.

  • IPhone 5s and iTunes match started with wrong apple i

    Hello,
    Yesterday I started with iTunes match with one of my apple id's (the one I mostly use for shopping)
    UnfortunateIy, while reading the instructions I didn't quite understand that it would not be available to my other id (apple id for iCloud)
    My macbook, windows pc and ipad are synced with the correct apple id (for iCloud)
    Now my iphone is not synced because I started iTunes match with another apple id of mine....!
    As I realise what happened I think that a 90 day period is absurd!!! in order to get my device free to sync with my choice apple id
    Because of this situation I have bought de iTunes match twice.
    Can you help me with the two following?
    1. Is it possible to cancel de purchase for apple id: please?
    2. And to have my iPhone 5s available for de iTunes match
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello mary.bee
    To resolve the issue, you will need to report the issue to the iTunes Store. As for the 90 days the article below will have some information about associating your Apple ID with other devices.

  • How to create a DN that starts with cn instead of uid

    I installed the new version of the directory server 5.0 and converted all dn's. All my DN's starts with the cn, but we I now enter new entries using the iPlanet console they all start with uid again. How can I configure the console so that when I enter a new entry, his dn starts with the cn instead of with the dn.
    THX

    I had the same problem. To fix it, I performed the following steps:
    * Open the Directory Server
    * Select the Directory tab
    * Select NetscapeRoot
    * Select the domain
    * Select Global Preferences
    * Select Common from the right-hand panel
    * Change nsuniqueattribute and nsuserrdncomponent from uid to cn
    * Save the changes
    * Logout of Console
    * Re-start the Directory Server and the Administration Server
    This worked for me.
    As a note, when you look at the Advanced properties before you complete adding the user, uid will still be shown as the RDN. Ignore this. After you complete adding the user, view the Advanced properties again. The RDN will use cn.
    Hope this helps.

  • Corrupted my iTunes Library fiddling with Vista User IDs

    Had been using iTunes on my new laptop for a month, having succesfully copied my library (22gb) from my old computer. Then I realised that my C:\ drive was filling up rapidly and I had not been using my E:\ drive. I followed instructions I found online to move my data onto the E:\ drive. That all seemed OK until I noticed that the data had been simply copied and was still filling up my C:\ drive (iTunes, being so large, was the main culprit).
    The iTunes Music folder location, in Advances Preferences was pointing correctly (for each separate Vista user account) to E:\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music. So I reasoned I could delete any iTunes folders I found on C:\. This is what I did.
    The biggest mistake I made was not testing everything worked OK straight afterwards. This was two weeks ago and I have only just gone to play music that I can see is still there in iTunes. The music will not play – it cannot find the location. (There are a handful of files that do work, that were downloaded after I did all this.)
    I did a search for *.m4 and the search results shows them sitting in C:\Useraccounts\Public\Public Music\iTunes Music\artistname. However, if you look in the folder it says it is empty. I cannot get either the library or the individual files to point back to this folder.
    I cannot see any iTunes library files in the Recycle Bin for any user account.
    At worst case I guess I can rebuild everything from my iPod which has not been synced since I messed around with the user accounts, or from a complete backup I took a week before this happened. However, if I have to follow this route I guess I will lose the items I have downloaded since. (By the way, I do not have the iPod set for disk use.)
    Can anyone please help me:
    a) rebuild the corrupted library?
    b) ensure afterwards that all iTunes data is off the C:\ drive?

  • ITunes library issues with external drive - HELP!

    Hey guys,
    I just got the Time Capsule and am using it to store my iTunes library. I went to preferences>Advanced and changed the location of the iTunes Library to my time capsule HD.
    The problem I am having is that every time I disconnect from the network iTunes defaults back to user/me/music/itunes and I have to redirect it and then click yes for "organize my library" and then it updates the library, blah blah...
    This is very annoying, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Try this post;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
    Maybe the most useful hint for you is the last paragraph "If you move your library to an external drive, you'll need to power up and connect the drive before starting iTunes. If you don't, iTunes will prompt you to either locate the library or to create a new library (which will result in an empty library)."
