Artists unchecked in Music sync still remain on iPhone?

I just recently switched from Sync "Entire Music Library" to "Selected playlists, artists, and genres". There's just some music I don't need on my iPhone that I want to remain in iTunes at home.
Unchecking the artists/genres I don't want moved to the iPhone doesn't seem to be having any effect on my iPhone though. It's not pulling these songs off as desired--they are still persisting.
Does your iPhone have to be totally full before it will pull off songs/artists/playlists you don't want synced? Am not really getting this.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you synced/hit apply once you made the changes in itunes?
Are all of the artist songs and genres still on the iphone or just some?
If you unchecked the artist, but the artists song is in a playlist (that you have selected to sync) then that song will still be on the iphone as you have selected it via the playlist.

I'm disappointed to see that Apple TV didn't inherit the improved music syncing options for Genre & Artist. It can't be hardware related as it shows up on my older iPod. Hopefully this will be fixed in a 9.1 release.
It's unfortunate that Apple continues to treat the Apple TV as a 'hobby'.

  • Music sync'd to my iPhone, but in iTunes no music selected

Ok, can someone explain this to me?
I have an iPhone 5S. Sync'd to iTunes. iTunes Match and Show All Music in the Music settings turned off. Show all Music, iTunes Match, and Music auto download turned off in the iTunes and App Store settings.
I went into iTunes and unchecked sync music, thereby deleting all music from the device.
Yet when I go into the Music app I still have 7 songs there. They are in my iTunes, but they are my wife's songs, I hate them and don't want them on my phone.
It's not a huge deal, but it's irritating to me because I don't understand why they are on there after I specifically said I don't want music on there. (I'm going to eventually put my music back ON, I just temporarily deleted all music to try to troubleshoot why these random songs were popping up when I shuffled all songs on my iPhone in my car - I listen to electronic dance music like progressive and dubstep, and then some random stupid song from Tinie Tempah pops up in my playlist).

I've had the exact same problem, but with 72 songs that I can't get off of my phone!
Also, I have the setting set so that my phone does not show music that has been purchase on iTunes but is not synced.
    Any ideas?

  • How can I run iTunes to manage my iPod music and still manage my iPhone / iPad?

Help!  I ditched iTunes 11 on my desktop PC a year ago or so, and reverted to 10.7, because of the crazy decision Apple made to remove "Composer" as a category, thereby making iTunes useless for anyone with a classical music collection.
That is painful, because 10.7 doesn't allow me to upgrade my iPhone Apps.  But at least I have my music...
However, last week I bought an iPad Air.  When I connected it to my iTunes 10.7 I was given short shrift.  IOS 7 will only talk to iTunes 11.
I hit on what I thought was an ingenious solution.  I loaded iTunes 11 onto my laptop PC.  I thought I would then be able to transfer my iPhone's affections (and apps) to the laptop, and then connect the iPad to the laptop too.  OK, so I had no option but to "upgrade" my iPhone to IOS 7.
So now I find that my desktop (iTunes 10.7) can talk to neither my iPhone nor my iPad.
My iPhone will connect to the laptop, but cannot establish any app linkage.  My iPad remains unused.
One of the things I used to love about Apple products was that everything just WORKED.  Please can someone suggest a way forward for me.  Has iTunes 11 been fixed to deal with Composers, so I can upgrade to it?  I can't copy my entire music database to my laptop because the disk is not big enough.  Solutions eagerly awaited!

Thanks for the reply, but I need a way forward.  Here are the options I can envisage and I would find it really helpful to have their feasibility commented on - or better options suggested.
    1) My ideal solution.  I sever my iPhone's connection to my desktop system so that I can run iTunes 11 on my laptop and sync iPhone and iPad to that.  Problem: I don't know how to sync the iPhone to the laptop.
    2) Upgrade my desktop to iTunes 11, completely destroying my classical music collection's backup on my 120GB iPod classic.  This is OK so long as I never need to reload the iPod.
    3) is there a way I can somehow freeze my iTunes 10.7 on my desktop and then upgrade to iTunes 11?  That would also be an ideal outcome, because I don't add new music to my iPod because it's full.
    Any suggestions warmly welcomed!

  • Itunes cancelling music sync on iPad AND iPhone - Help!

For some reason only 2 songs will sync onto either device - they are not any different from the rest of my music. I have done everything I could find on here, including 'ticking the box' beside the song, restoring my phone, quitting and reopening iTunes, removing all music and putting it back on. I have enough room on both devices. When I sync, it gets stuck at the very end, usually it can sync 5-6 songs and then cancels the sync. The only thing I could think of is I recently added some songs from a USB, but I converted them to mp3 format. I also don't know why that would affect the rest of my music.
I NEED to resolve this issue as I'm going away on holidays and won't have my laptop with me, and i currently have 2 songs on each device

I'm observing the same problem. iTunes is nearly frozen, especially podcasts make the system extremely slow, no downloads possible at all. Opening an album song list is also painfully slow. All this prevents me from buying from the store. Apple should be interested in this. Please note that I'm not using iTunes match!

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11 and iOS7. Now music syncs incorrectly.

Yesterday I updated iTunes on my Windows 7 desktop to version 11.1.0.126 and iOS 7.0 on both my iPhone 4 and also my wife's.  When I was done I had thought the process had gone perfectly, infact I was and still am very impressed by how easy the task was particularily considering how many changes there are.  However, what did not go so well was the syncing of our music.  My wife and I listen to very different types of music and I do not necessarily want her Robin Thicke mixing with my Metallica, (or vice-versa).  And having used iTunes and iDevices going way back, I am very proficient of using the features within iTunes to keep our music and playlists seperate.  But after completing my update I discovered that while all of my music was infact on the device I also had many random songs and artists from our music library that I don't particularly want showing up when I hit 'shuffle'.  For example, there are now a bunch of songs by Frank Sinatra and the Andrew Sisters of my iPhone that we downloaded from the iTunes Store to play at my grandmothers funeral.  When looking at my iPhone's music tab within iTunes you can see thay all the artists that I want synced have boxes with checkmarks in them, as they should.  But you can go through the songs on the iPhone while looking down the list in iTunes and see many artists on the iPhone even though the checkboxes in the iTunes music tab are empty, including artists, albums, and playlists.  I have taken two steps I took to troubleshoot my problem.  First was to check the box of a particular artist that I didn't want on my iPhone (yet it was), and sync, and then uncheck the box and sync again. The second step I took was to remove all of the music from the iPhone and one-by-one go through the lists rechecking boxes of the artists whose music I wanted synced to my iPhone.  On this attempt, when I unchecked 'Sync Music' box under my iPhones music tab in iTunes, it removed all of my music and said there were zero songs on my iPhone.  However launching the music app on the phone showed that all of the music that I wanted on my iPhone, and whose boxes I checked were infact gone.  But all of the music that was thrown on randomly, such as my grandmother's funeral music was still on my iPhone.  The data gauge at the bottom of the iPhone's summary tab even showed the data being taken up by this audio even though the music tab claimed there were zero songs.  And of course when I synced the music that I actually did want on my iPhone back, it all transferred fine, but the random unwanted music is also still there.  The same issue happened with my wife's iPhone 4 but in reverese, meaning that all of the music with a checkbox that is checked in the music tab in iTunes transfered correctly, however so did a random sampling of music that she does not want.  I have double checked that 'Automatically fill free space with songs' is turned off.  I assume my next option would be to restore an iPhone to it's factory defaults and try from scratch, but I'm wondering if the issue lies elsewhere seeing as the problem occured with both my iPhone and my wife's.  I thought it might be wise ask for a little advice before trying that option.
I'll finish by saying that this is a minimal issue to me in relation to my warm feelings about the look and changes of not just the new iOS but of all the Apple products that I have ever owned.  My roots go deep into the Apple ecosystem.  These are all astonding innovations.

    diesel vdub, i use 11.1.1
solved the issue today. first sync with itunes, so all the stiff you bought on the mobile will be backuped.
    1. uncheck sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be erased from mobile device
    2. check music player on the mobile device. just the unwanted songs will still be there
    3. go on the iphone to settings, general, usage, music player. there is just a few mb from the remaining unwanted songs. swipeleft and erase the content. switch iphone off and on again
    4. repeat step 2. there will be no data. otherwise repeat step 3
    5. check sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be back again but not the unwanted songs.

  • Half of my the music in itunes will not sync back to my iphone

Some of my music synced back to my iphone but not all .Some songs from the same album would load and others would not. There was a message that said "song not found" when it was right there in itunes. Only about half did load and itunes gave me a list of songs not loaded. Any idea what going on and how to fix the problem. Thanks for your response .

In iTunes, when you connect your iPhone, in the Music tab for the iPhone, have you checked "Sync only checked songs and apps etc...." or something like that.

  • I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone?

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

  • Songs still remain on my device even after I uncheck the songs in my library. How can this be fixed?

In music library I upload songs but some songs I uncheck in my library but they still remain on my device. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

One thing you can do is delete it from the device by sliding leftr on the song to make the delete icon apear and delete it there and also check the box in iTunes saying only sync checked songs and videos.

  • Why isn't unchecked music synced to my iPhone?

I have an iphone 4 connected to windows 7 computer. All going well until recently, last time I connected to itunes I had a warning that all my music was unchecked, so no music would sync to iphone. (This was not a change I had made.)
In itunes however all my music was still checked as being wanted. The music however was deleted from my phone and I can't seem to get it back. Its still on the computer and plays there just fine.
When I try to add or subract music in itunes it makes no difference to the blue bar indicating how much disk space has been used on my phone.
I have tried reinstalling itunes 10.5, and running the diagnostic tool in itunes without success. Any advice is appreciated.

Connect your iPad to your computer, wait until backup and sync process is completed and you see an Apple Logo in the top windows.
Now click your Device on the left Pane and in the Summary tab on the right Pane, scroll down and make sure the box for "Sync only checked music & video" is checked and click the SYNC button at the lower right window.  Your music will be transferred back to your iPad.

  • My iTunes account says that it cannot locate the original file for all of my songs.  My iPhone still has all the music and is able to play the songs, if I sync and backup my iphone will the songs be replaced with the empty copies from my itunes library?

So basically I tried to back up my itunes library to my external hard drive and when I followed the instructions and then went to play a song it said Orginal file cannot be found. It said that for all of the songs. I'm not sure how to fix what I did, I already tried consolidating and all of that stuff and it didn't locate the files.  I'm guessing that I somehow deleted the original songs along the way.  I synced my iPhone without knowing what I did and surprisingly all of the music is still on my phone.  So now that I've completely screwed up my iTunes account, I need to know how to get all my music back onto my iTunes account and have that library only on my external hard drive, not my computer. Everything looks fine on my iTunes besides the fact that it cannot locate the files but what I'm afraid of is me syncing and backing up my iPhone and then being left with no music because it syncs to the empty songs.  How can I fix this? and if I can't fix my iTunes library is there anyway for me to still be able to backup my iphone and all the music on it, without erasing my music?

Well I'm not sure if I correctly backed up my itunes library because when trying to open itunes from that back up it keeps saying original file not found. Okay this is going to sound confusing but bear with me.  I "backed up" my itunes, meaning I just dragged and dropped the iTunes folder into my external hardrive, and then I changed the destination on iTunes to open from my external hardrive.  It was working fine when I did that, however I did that just on my own, I didn't know about consolidating the files or any of that so I hadn't done that before copying the folder to my external hard drive. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure I deleted the iTunes folder after I had copied it to my external hardrive. So I did that and it was working fine, I was able to open my itunes with my external hardrive.  BUT yesterday I thought that I hadn't done it correctly because I didn't consolidate the files and all that, so I wanted to be more thorough and do that, I followed the steps to do that but when I did that I think it got all the files from my computer and not from my external hard drive so it basically didn't find anything on my computer because I had deleted them. And like an idiot, I replaced the iTunes folder on my external hard drive (the one I did correctly the first time), with the one I did wrong. So I believe I pretty much deleted all the music files from both my external hard drive and my computer. Please correct me if I'm wrong?
I believe getting all my music back on my itunes is a lost cause. BUT I still have all my songs and stuff on my iPhone. My question is, if I plug my phone into my computer and sync it, will it erase all my songs from my phone? A little more info, my iTunes still has the names and stuff of all my songs, they just can't be played because the files are missing, my iPhone doesn't need to erase and sync when I plug in my phone because it's already synced to my computer. What I'm afraid of is when I plug in my phone to backup and sync, will it erase my music because it can't find the files on my computer or external hard drive anymore? Or will it just leave the songs because they're already there (on my phone) and only sync the new songs that I've downloaded? I just need to know is my iTunes still going to be functional as far as me being able to backup my phone?
I have a lot of songs purchased from iTunes but a lot (like 60%) are from CDs that I no longer have. So re-downloading my music would only account for 40% of my library.
