Artwork for m4a?

Hello. I just bought Somnium, which is a 7-hour audio DVD--all music. RIP'ed to hard drive with AVS Audio Convertor. Ended up with four tracks, each about 2.5 hours long. Used AVS to convert tracks to M4A, imported into itunes 9.0.2.25 and successfully synced to my Video ipod. I am unable to add artwork for the tracks. Found a jpg, used the "Add Artwork" button in the "Get Info" box to load the jpg. Artwork shows up in the "Get Info" window (under the "Artwork" tab), but when I click "OK", the main itunes window shows the generic 'eighth-note logo'. When I return to the "Artwork" tab in the "Get Info" window, the jpg image has disappeared. Is there a way to add artwork to m4a files?

Hi Jeremiah,
Most likely is that you've misspelt a file or folder name in the path to the m4a file, which is why the server says it can't be found if you enter that URL in the browser. If the URL doesn't point to a valid file it will result in the little round ! in iTunes.
Another possibility is to check the permissions on the file on the server - make sure it can be read by visitors as the server won't serve it up to you without the right permissions.
Good luck,
Greg

  • "Tag Editor" for M4A and M4V Files?

I got major corruption in my music files, resulting in either 2 extra letters being inserted in the file names just ahead of the period between the file name and the extension, or the entire filename being replaced by 4 random letters. Found some tag editors that will let me repair MP3 files, by pulling tag data out of the file and using it to fix the file names. Does something like that exist for m4a and m4v files?

No, I'm not suggesting that at all, I was replying to another poster who said they couldn't add artwork to an mp4 at all.
Your equipment likely has nothing to do with this, I have a dual 4 core 3 Ghz Xeon CPU and I too have a considerable wait sometimes adding artwork to some files.
mp4 containers can hold either mpeg4/2 or mpeg4/10, (simple mpeg4 and AVC) and each compression type has a whole array of complexity types associated with it, much the same can be said for audio in the mp4 container.
What I'm saying is that some mp4's will take time to add artwork, some will do it straight away and there are situations where some mp4's won't take artwork. It isn't your system, your hardware or anything you are doing wrong, it's the way it is.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • ITunes Get Artwork:  "Artwork for [album name] cannot be found.  You do not have permission to access the requested resource."

I just installed iTunes 10.5 (latest version as of 11 Jan 2012), onto a computer running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  I loaded my music library into it, it compiled the list and separated them by album.  But even though I'd assigned most of the albums artwork through my Zune management software (a Microsoft product), almost none of them populated into iTunes.  So I went through and started asking the software to try to find album artwork where possible.
I did this a few times album by album, then I decided to select multiple albums and see what happened.  No problems.  Then I selected all of the albums I had--about 600 in all--and asked it to get artwork.  It seemed to process for a bit, then came back with the error, "Artwork for [album name] could not be located.  You do not have permission to access the requested resource."  I tried this on several individual albums, only to receive that same error.
The very first time I did it, I was told I needed an account with the iTunes store to make it work, so I signed in using an old Apple ID (the account had been inactive for so long it had been locked for security, I unlocked it and that seemed to be that).  Then I did what I described above.
The weird thing--to me--is that I can still add artwork to the albums manually if I want to, from imagery stored locally on my own computer.  The only thing it seems to have a problem with is when I ask it to go find artwork from the iTunes store.
Do I need to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it?  Did something go wrong with the process of authorizing the computer to work with the iTunes store?  Do I need to de-authorize and then re-authorize the computer?  Could this be something related to Windows permissions on the iTunes library?

Right on about how to reset the warnings, it was exactly that.
I went through the steps to let iTunes through Windows Firewall, but still get the same problem when I access the iTunes store (and even though I followed the steps in the help file to the letter, I notice it still says iTunes is NOT enabled for it).  And now, thanks to the re-enabled warnings, when I try to get it to download artwork for single albums, this is what I get:
"Artwork for [album name] could not be found.  An unknown error occurred (-50)."
New results from the diagnostics too:

  • Downloading artwork - "could not get artwork for some albums"

This might have been addressed before, but I browsed the forum and couldn't find a thread. Sorry if it's been gone over several times.
I live in Turkey and I've added albums to my iTunes. I checked the box in the Get Info next to Artwork and I selected Get Album Artwork from the Advanced tab. It scans through all the albums and then says "could not get artwork for some albums." "Some" albums means all of them actually. And the error tab details say "artwork not available." I also tried getting artwork by right clicking on a single album but I get the same error. Before it was a 609 error. Now it just says not available.
I logged out of the store, quit iTunes, loaded it again, re-signed in to the store and tried to get artwork that way, but got the same result. No artwork. The albums are things like Let It Be, Allman Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald... Albums that should certainly have artwork available.
    I'm using Windows Vista.
Has anyone had and conquered this problem? Any ideas on what I should do? I have 300+ albums, so getting the cover art from wikipedia would be a bit tedious. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give!

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are your songs from Audio CDs or iTunes Store? If not you may need to manually find the album artwork for them as these songs may not be listed in the iTunes Store database for your region.
iTunes: Album art may not download properly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1815
iTunes will only download album artwork for songs that it can find in the iTunes Store. iTunes will check each song in your iTunes library and attempt to match it up with a song in the iTunes Store. If the data matches, iTunes will download the album artwork from the iTunes Store and add it to the song in your iTunes library. If iTunes does not find a particular song's artwork in the iTunes Store, you will not see an alert message. iTunes simply does not download artwork for that song.

  • Force Cover Flow to use a particular artwork for a tv show?

I had a mix up with Cover Flow before but that turned out to just be me getting confused with the way it displayed artwork for various series of a tv show. But now it really is taking the ****.
The scenario is this, I ripped a tv show from a DVD, several series of it. Put the first series in, gave every episode individual artwork, gave it a programme name, unique Episode ID that was incremental and also a episode number, also incremental.
This seemed to work fine. Every episode was in order, and Cover flow showed the first episode's artwork as the series artwork which is what I thought it was supposed to do.
I've been trying to put in the second series, did it exactly the same way. Except after quitting iTunes and restarting it, Cover Flow has idiotically decided to display the artwork for one of the other episodes, not the first one of which I have special artwork set for and for. There is no error in the Episode ID incremental numbers or the Series Number or the Episode Numbers, they're all correct, I've done my usual multi-check and delete then re-add. It just seems to like using the artwork for the eleventh episode as opposed to the first.
So how can I force Cover flow to display a particular artwork for a show? I probably wouldn't mind so much but its choices are reflected on my Apple TV and it just looks a bit crap on that.

Forget it. Obviously no one knows.

  • Is there a way to have one main cover artwork for an album that has artwork for each song?

For example The Fall by Gorillaz has unique artwork for each song but when I'm in album view it only shows the artwork for the first song not the actual cover of the album. I'm wondering if there's a way for it to display the actual album cover in album view and the artwork for each song when it's actually playing.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Is there a way to automatically import artwork for music already in librar?

Is there a way to automatically import artwork for music already in library?
I just transferred all my music from a PC into my new mac.
I saw a widget that fetches the album artwork from the web. great fun!!!
Now is there a way to fetch all these artworks automatically.
I did not use istore to buy the music - but imported from my cd collection.
    Thanks.
What a great system - simple and no hassles. Thanks Apple. Goodbye PC.

If you are using AlbumArt widget you can do this with the widget interface.

  • Searching artwork for only one song at a time

When I use the "Get Artwork" feature in iTunes it searches my entire library for artwork that i'm missing (which i don't think it does a very good job at it anyway). this takes too long and just isn't what i want. Is there a way to have it only seach for album artwork for just one song.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't believe iTunes will focus on one track when finding Cover Art.
However, I use the Album Art Widget, which will supply the cover art (if it's available on Amazon) for the track, or album currently playing.

I've installed both 7.5 and 7.6 and with either version for some reason I can no longer get the album artwork to any of my albums, when trying to get them the following message appears: Artwork for ..... could not be found. An unknown error occurred (-609). Any help how I can get the album artwork for my albums would be very much appreciated.

Try iTLU - iTunes Library Updater which if set up properly can remove all missing tracks from the library and add all new unlisted tracks from your media folders into the library. Running time seems to grow expoentially with the size of the libray - 34,000 drags, but 5,000 shouldn't be too bad.

  • How to setup a global artwork for a TV Show

Hi, I've a TV Show composed by 45 episodes where each one have his artwork but I don't know how to setup a global artwork for the TITLE of the TV Show while retaining the 45s artworks.
ie. when watching the Tv Shows (library on iTunes) I would like to see the global artwork of the Tv Show that is different of the other 45s episodes contained.
    Bye, Roberto.

Sorry, I don't believe that you have had a good look at the Foundation framework. I'll now hold your hand while we go through the basics.
Here is the specific page http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html
    The default values are
    Em-base : 16px
    Row width: 62.5em (62.5em x 16px = 1000px)
    Columns per row: 12
These and other default values can be changed. The fact of the matter is that if you stipulate a section width of 2 or 3 or 12 columns, the widths will automatically be calculated for you.
In your case, if you want 7 columns, all you need to do is change the number of columns per row and the rest is done for you.

  • How to add ONE image as artwork for an entire album ?..

How do you add a single image as artwork for an entire album (i.e. without having redundant copies for each individual track).
I already know that iTunes has its own artwork system that allows for this, but this is not helpful if the album art is not in their database.
    Thanks in advance.

Furthermore, if iTunes has erroneously downloaded an album cover for you that you want to change, you'll have to highlight the group of songs you wish to change and go to 'info'. Click on the 'album artwork' tab and delete the artwork that's there before adding your own, otherwise iTunes keeps both and only the first one will continue to show as the default.
If you want to download the correct album covers (or a different/cleaner/more accurate version) just go to the Images section of Google, type in the album name and copy the image of what you're looking for. No need to save the image, just copy and paste it. iTunes saves it on its own.

  • How do I create a template/page layout for artwork for a folder?

Hi can someone please explain how I can create a page layout in Indesign CS5 to design the artwork for a folder.  The folder is an A4 paper wallet type folder with a 3mm spine - I'm just not sure how to build this on the page!  I have a subcription to lynda.com but can't seem to search out a relevant tutorial.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Olwen

Do you mean for a Pocket Folder?
Here's a quick and dirty way.
New document > Page Size > A3 > Toggle wide
Place your curser in the width and after the dimension type +3mm
    Set Columns to 2, Gutter = 3mm
    Margins 0
    Bleed, if needed, to 3mm

  • No artwork for albums in the cloud

I have a mac which hasn't got my music stored locally but I use iTunes match to play almost all my music however hardly any albums are showing any artwork. The artwork is present on my phone and gets downloaded straight away if I download a song from a particular album.
I've tried the Library > Get Album Artwork but that only gets artwork for locally stored songs. Anyone know how I can get the artwork to show? My albums view on iTunes is looking pretty dull.
    Thanks

    Hi Pete,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like album artwork is missing from some tracks or albums on your iPhone, and the music was downloaded from your iCloud library. The article linked below has a lot of great suggestions that will resolve most issues like the one you’ve described.
    iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match
Some songs or albums are missing artwork
If some songs or albums downloaded to an iOS device from your iCloud library are missing album artwork, try the following:
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. You can download the latest version for free.
    Launch iTunes on your computer.
From the iTunes menu, choose Advanced > Get Album Artwork.
Once iTunes has completed processing the album artwork, you'll need to update iTunes Match.
From the iTunes menu, choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
Once iTunes Match has finished updating, launch the Music app on your iOS device.
Locate the songs or albums that are missing artwork, and delete them from your device by swiping left or right over a song. To delete an album, swipe left or right over the album on iPhone or iPod touch. To delete an album from iPad, tap and hold on the album cover until you see the delete button or "X" in the upper-left hand corner of the album cover. Tap the "X" to delete the album.
After you've deleted the song or album, download the item again from your iCloud library by tapping on the download icon.
    I hope this helps.
    -Jason
