Artwork missing... Leopard? or new iMac problem?

Hi, I recently moved all of my music to my new iMac. Then I discovered that not all of my artwork moved over. Many of the albums that had artwork no longer have it. What's even more strange is that my iPod and iPhone have some of the missing artwork, and I have synced them several times since being on the new mac.
I thought when I moved everything over I got all of the files. Is there somewhere else that the artwork was being stored? Most of the artwork moved over. It doesn't seem to make sense that some would move and some wouldn't....

Boot off the Leopard DVD and select (after you've chosen a language, and after the installer has appeared) from the Utilities menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen (which may not appear until after you have moved the mouse up there) the reset password utility. That will allow you to reset the password.

A simple Internet search reveals a number of places to download it for free. By the way, the Princeton font is not a default included font with OS X.

  • Installing Leopard on new iMac, installation just goes on and on...

    Hi there!
Just bought a new iMac 24" with OS X 10.4 installed. I ordered the Leopard upgrade and installed it today, and experienced the already documented problem where login password is seemingly accepted but after a few seconds the login window appears again. Recommended solution was to "Archive and Install installation (and select Preserve Users and Network Settings)". I did that, and have now been staring the installation screen for six hours... surely it doesn't take that long to re-install? Installation process started just fine, but after that, no progress. What could I try next? I tried searching the forum and all I found was that one shouldn't interrupt installation process or it would screw things up, so I'm a bit baffled what to do next. Thanks for any thoughts!

  • New iMac problem with log in, start up assistant

Just got a new iMac and used Set Up Assistant to transfer files and settings from my Mac mini (Tiger). I am now getting a log in screen prompting for a password. On my Mac mini, I never assigned a password to the machine since I am the only user. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to log onto the new iMac without entered a password. Can anyone direct me on how to either disable or reset the password on the new iMac?

Boot off the Leopard DVD and select (after you've chosen a language, and after the installer has appeared) from the Utilities menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen (which may not appear until after you have moved the mouse up there) the reset password utility. • Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard to new iMac running Mountain Lion

Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard time machine files to new iMac running Mountain Lion.  I can run connection doctor OK.  But the activity window is blank.   If you try to open message viewer window then mail program crashes.  Would really like to get my old emails back as the old imac is totally dead.  Thanks for any help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Re-installing Photoshop CS6 on new iMac problem.

I transferred my Photoshop CS6 to a new iMac Retina running OSX 10.10.1, having taken care to deactivate on the old Mac first and then reactivated on the new.  Photoshop comes up with an error message now each time I launch saying that "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necassary for running Photoshop, are missing.  Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."  So I did just that with my original installer disc.  At the end of that process it said that there had been some errors and referred me to a log file which said:
Despite all this Photoshop seems to be working, but every time I launch it I get the same error message.   I've not used it enough since the move to the new Mac to discover if any other faults have developed.  As well as using my original install disc I also tried downloading the CS6 installer from the adobe.com site but exactly the same thing happens.  I would welcome suggestions for a fix...

Alas, this did not work. I first of all tried the reinstall in Safe Boot mode and at the end of the process exactly the same install error message as shown above.  I then moved to the part of those instructions that said to ditch Adobe AIR and reinstall it.  AIR was not visible anywhere on my machine, nor did that folder /Volumes/Adobe Master Collection exist.  Maybe there's a difference between what CS6 installs compared with the CS5 your instructions refer to (?).  So I went back to the Adobe.com downloads page, got Adobe AIR and installed it - during that it told me it was upgrading my AIR (wherever that was hidden - Find file could not see it) to version 16.  Otherwise no reported errors.  I went a step further and used the Uninstall tool to remove the existing CS6 installation, then tried reinstalling Photoshop - again same issue, same error.  So I'm no further forward after several hours of trying different things.
    Any more ideas please?

  • Old iMac with Snow Leopard to new iMac with Lion - can I do this?

    Hi folks,
    1.  I have a 6 year old iMac running Snow Leopard (can't upgrade to Lion)
    2. Just bought a new iMac running Lion.
    3.  I want to migrate all accounts, files, apps, etc from old iMac to new iMac (about 150 Gb worth)..
    4. I would normally connect both iMacs either with an Ethernet cable or via wi-fi network and run Setup Assistant to move everything to the new iMac.
Based on my experience doing this on other Macs I have, I know it's gonna take 8 to 10 hours to migrate everything over to the new iMac so I'm looking for ways to migrate so my iMac isn't tied up all day and I don't have to spend all day in front of the computer making sure all is o.k.  So, if I make a bootable clone on a separate portable drive using SuperDuper, can I hook that drive up (instead of old iMac) to my new iMac and run Setup Assistant that way?  That would free up the old iMac to use while the new iMac crunches away copying all those files from the portable drive.  Will that work? Has anyone done this successfully?  Any cautions or things to watch for?
    Thanks everyone,
    Ed

    Linc,
Thanks for the info, but I want to use an external FireWire drive as the target disk, not the old iMac.  I'd need to keep the external FireWire drive connected to the old iMac in order to use the screen, keyboard, mouse, etc.  Could I just connect the FW drive to the new iMac and then start up the new iMac in hopes it would "recognize" the external FireWire drive through Setup Assistant?

  • HT3805 How do I restore Vault created under Snow leopard to new IMac with Maverick 10.9.2

Purchased a new IMac with OS 10.9.2
trying to restore an Aperture Vault (created by snow leopard) I get error message that Vault could not be restored because it was created by older OS.
Is there a fix for this or do I kiss my 4k pics goodbye - I hope this isn't the case.

Purchased a new IMac with OS 10.9.2
trying to restore an Aperture Vault (created by snow leopard) I get error message that Vault could not be restored because it was created by older OS.
What exactly is the error message? The operating system version should not matter, when restoring from a vault. What however will matter, are the version of Aperture and the file system of the disk with the vault.  Is your vault on an external drive? If yes, how is the drive formatted?  If the vault is not on a drive formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled), move it to a disk with the correct formatting and try again.
And what version of Aperture created your vault? With SnowLeopard you probably used an older Aperture version. Then your vault needs to be upgraded to a newer Aperture version, before you can restore from it. Do you still have a version of Aperture installed, that is the same version as your vault? Was it an Aperture 3 version?
If your vault is an Aperture 3 vault, try to open it as an Aperture library instead of restoring it.
    - a quick and dirty emergency measure: Try to open your vault directly on the drive where it is now without restoring it. Make a backup copy of your vault, before you try it.
Change the filename extension of your vault to ".aplibrary", this will turn the vault into an Aperture library and try to open it directly in Aperture by double clicking it.
Aperture will now try to open the vault as the current Aperture library and upgrade it.
“Aperture Vault” was created by an older version of Aperture, and cannot be restored by this version.

  • Re-installing Leopard on new iMac

Not sure if this is the right place - I have just got a new iMac. I transferred all info (but not applications) from my iBook, and it's just a nightmare - permissions all over the place, loads of keychain problems, etc. I want to start again with a fresh iMac and do it all manually - any advice?

One last question. My iTunes library was shared between users on my last mac. I have transferred music over but rating etc. haven't come with the library. These seem to be in the individual user accounts for each user - I've tried transferring these files with no success - I understand this is an iTunes question but wondered if you could help - where is that information stored on the mac.

  • Missing iPhoto for new iMac

    Hi,
Just got new iMac. Great! Using new software that came with it. No iPhoto on my hard drive. Missing. What am I supposed to have? And since I don't have it, how can I get it? I don't see any download for iPhoto. What version should I have with my new iMac? Thanks.
    Ed

Thanks for your prompt answer. I have looked through the applications folder and the rest of the hard drive. I have done a search with spotlight but there is no iPhoto. I have contacted the dealer and will be contacted the individual there that helped set up the transfer of data and applications from my failed iMac G5.
My guess is that they somehow deleted iPhoto in this process
In the booklet that is titled "Everything Mac" it shows iPhoto under iLife.
    That is correct
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only
For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.
I have used the Software update to download and install all updates that were listed. Nothing there to update iPhoto.
If there is no iPhoto you can not update iPhoto - iPhoto (and iLife) are not available from downloads - they must be installed from the original disks as noted above and in my first answer

  • Snow Leopard on new iMac possible?

Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on an iMac to be purchased this week.
I know the official word is no but Leopard runs on my iMac late 2009 which came with SL although one has to double boot.
I envision a partition with Lion and one with Snow Leopard.
    TIA
    Lewis

I think so.  If you use Disk Utility to create a new partition on the iMac in Lion then you should be able to restart the iMac, boot from the Snow Leopard installation disk and install Snow Leopard onto the new partition.  Certainly a new iMac should be perfectly capable of running any version of OS X from 10.4 onwards.

  • After migration to new iMac - problems with Microsoft office 2008 using multiple users

I migrated my data from my old Imac to my new Imac.  On the new Imac I created multiple logins for my kids.  My microsoft office 2008 programs will not open.  I keep getting the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" screen which cycles through, checks for update then closes never allowowing me to access the program.  Please help!!

Reference your first post - I download and use dmg files, so either I'm lucky or they are supported.
I would try the disk reinstall since at this point there doesn't seem to be many options.
Do you have a backup? You could restore the Microsoft Office 2008 folder.

  • How to move iPhoto Library from  MacBookPro (Leopard) to new iMac (Mavericks)

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new iMac and want to move my iPhoto Library from my older (2008) MacbookPro. Have looked it up and tried to do so, by copying the iPhotoLibrary file from the old machine to the new, and starting iPhoto with option key down & pointing to the new library. When that didnt work, I tried booting with the option & command down, and attempted to Repair, and then to Rebuild the Library.
In all cases, iPhoto opens, but doesnt see any photos in the iPhoto Library. The iPhoto Library works fine on the old macbook pro.
    What shall I do?
    Thanks
    Tom

Ok I know it's been awhile but I finally was able to try your suggestion.
I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager on my macbook pro, connected my macbook pro to my new iMac and did a Rebuild Library from the existing library on the macbook pro, setting it up to save to my new iMac.
It began to do the rebuild (though there were many "unreadable files") and went through the operation, which looked like it was going to take several hours to complete.
But at a certain point (after an hour or so), the macbook pro complained that I dont have enough space on my startup disk!!
So I can only guess that the rebuild must have done something to the original iPhoto Library after all (even though the settings on my iPhoto are to NOT  copy files to Library on import if that matters...). The Library is 32 Gb though I dont remember what it's size was before...
Sure enough, my starup Macintosh HD now has only 1GB space on it. Yikes!
    I stopped the rebuild process.
Not sure if I need to now just trash the original library to make space on my HD (of course I can save it elsewhere in case its useful), but since the rebuild didnt even get halfway through its process, the rebult library on the new iMac isnt going to do me any good. Maybe I've just lost all the years of work I've done organizing my library. Maybe I just need to start over with new kind of software (or using iPhoto start again from scratch on the new iMac).
What do you think happened? I thought the rebuild wouldnt affect the original library.
    Tom

  • Why missing iweb in new imac??

I just bought an new iMac but can't found the iweb software... sigh !!
Any one can tell me how can i get it again ?

Because Apple decided to stop putting it on new Macs. It's available on iLife 09 and 11 DVDs; places such as Amazon and eBay may sell these.
