Artwork thumbnails corrupted

Hi,
Things seem to have been okay so far with my ipod classice and itunes 7.7. i say okay because this software is far from good. However last night for some reason it was supposed to do a minor update ie 50 tracks, but instead it decided to do a >1000 track update.
Grrr, not only did this take ages, and i have no idea why it needed to. Anyway i let it get on with it. Now when i scan through my albums on the ipod a significant number of the small cover art pics look like random coloured pixels, very odd.
When you open the album and play a track some show the correct coverart and some show nothing???
Whats going on? how can i fix this?
The problem being when you check the ipod in itunes it shows the larger image not the thumbnail and it appears to be okay.
Any help really appreciated. Thanks
Matt

Ugh, you are porbably going to have to uncheck the "sync artowkr to ipod" option. let it update, and then make the change ot put it back to synicning artwork.
There is a new v7.1.1 iTunes that has fixed some folks problems - don't know if you're up to trying that!

  • IPhoto thumbnail corruption

I’ve got a few problems with iPhoto database corruption. I’m using the latest version.
    1. The thumbnail jpegs in the /data folder have gotten corrupted and some of the links to the originals are not intact. The roll numbers have also disappeared.
    2. When I get the prompt that “the file can’t be found, would I like to find it” I find it, but can’t select it because the filename is grayed out in Finder. Why won’t iPhoto or Finder let me select the file? The file exists and I can look at it in Preview, Photoshop, etc., so I know it’s intact and not corrupted.
    3. I’ve rebuilt the database, thumbnails, etc. a couple of times and still get thumbnail corruption (wrong image in the thumbnail–not the same as the actual jpeg). Is the only way to fix this to copy the actual image somewhere else, delete it in iPhoto and quit iPhoto and then import it back again to let iPhoto re-create the data and thumbnails and links?
As a side point, why does the program name the thumbnail the same as the actual file? Doesn’t having duplicate file names which are actually different files on the system seem like it could lead to problems?

Once you get back up and running with a viable library check out the tip at the end of my signature. It can provide an easy recovery to this type of database corruption.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Thumbnail corruption in Events library and timeline

I am seeing thumbnail corruption in my events library and timeline.  Several thumbnails of jpg images that I imported into the library are showing up as corrupted - color bands and whatnot.  When dragged to the timeline the same thing.  But when I play them in a storyline, everything is ok.  I can ignore it but has anyone else experienced this issue.  I am using 10.0.3 on a MacPro running Lion.

Hi Tom, Thank you for your reply. Please forgive my ignorance. I did try to find the answer here but I am new at this.  Could you direct me to that thread please? Yes the external hard drive is used for time machine and I did see something at one time regarding an issue but evidently it didnt sink in or stick. The drive is a g-raid I have had for several years used on a macbook pro but now I have a new imac and fcpx. works fine with all other apps, when the drive came out of the box it said preformatted and just ran with it.

  • ITunes 8 taking FOREVER ( 12 hours) to process artwork thumbnails

Anybody else seeing this? Its taking forever to process the artwork thumbnails. It looks like its going out on our shared drive and processing all the media on all the computers on the network (~300GB). Or at least those that are shared. I can't tell for sure because the spinning color wheel of death won't pause so I can see what is going on.
Next question is will each of the computers in the house go through the same painful process with the shared media when upgraded to iTunes 8?
What an idiot I was. 8(

Same problem here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1701877&tstart=0). What worked for me, finally, was to quickly hit Stop before the spinning ball appeared and I then checked off for this never to happen automatically in the subsequent dialogue window. It seems to get hung with albums that start with S.

  • Artwork Import Corrupts File and Does Not Show in iTunes

I recently loaded some files into iTunes that I received as MP3s. After importing them, I attempted to add artwork. The artwork showed up originally, but everytime I went back to play the song, the artwork would disappear. And, each time I attempted to add the artwork, it caused the song to loop at the beginning. In other words, a 20 second or so snippet would play multiple times before the song would play. This appeared to corrupt the file in that the same thing would occur no matter what file I used. I thenreimported the raw files again, did not add artwork, and they played fine. As soon as I attempted to add the artwork again, the looping problem occurred again. I have used iTunes for a long time, and have never had a problem adding photos to my iTunes or my iPod.

  • Artwork thumbnail view?

    Hello,
In iTunes 6.0.1, in the Videos ("display with blue background" icon), it is possible to toggle between Details view and thumbnails view (right upper corner).
Does anyone know the possibility to have a thumbnail view of the CD artworks stored in the library? allowing of course direct access to the music files.
    Regards,
    Yannick

iTunes doesn't add artwork to thunbnail view in Windows Explorer. Itunes adds artwork to the files or to a folder with links between artwork and music file.

  • Thumbnails corrupted

When I updated to imovie 09 I had problems with corrupted thumbnails. A later upgrade resolved this issue, but I had to regenerate the thumbnails after deleting the movie cache thumbnail folder etc. The problem, after all the latest upgrades, has returned. But this time the new thumbnails are corrupted. I have 1TB of video on my La Cie external drive and I am now regenerating the thumbnails for the second time but the problem persists and takes forever over night when previously it only took an hour or so. It seems with every upgrade apple create more problems!
I have binned the project I had spent days working on even that has not helped. Any suggestions. The reason I tell people to switch to apple is ease of use but imovie 09 has destroyed my faith. I am using Leopard on a G5.

  • Re: iPhoto thumbnail corruption?

My wife is going nuts trying to cope with erroneous thumbnails attached to her images in iPhoto (a thumbnail shows one thing and when she double clicks on it the real image shows). I assume the thumbnails file, or whatever, is corrupted? If so maybe deleting it and hoping the program will regenerate the correct previews might work? She’s running OS 10.10.2
If so, how do I get to the file; what is it called. I know about control-click on the iPhoto icon to see the files but have no idea what it/they may be called, or in what folder.
If I’m wrong, what is the solution?
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Peter

If you hold down the command and option keys while launching iPhoto you get a "first aid" dialog box, from whence you can rebuild the library (thumbnails, etc). Who knew? Peter

  • Album Artwork Database Corrupt  ・ run the chkdsk utility

when i connect my iPod, i get a pop up that says the iTunes Album Artwork database is corrupt and that I should run the Chkdsk Utility.
    What is the chkdisk utility?
    how can i run it?

thanks for the tip! i ran the chkdsk.exe program and it took about 5 minutes in all. after that, i reconnected the iPod and no problems.
    this actually solved 2 problems:
1 -the corrupt album artwork database is now fixed
2 -the unsolved error -48 message is gone and updating proceeds normally.
    thanks alot!

  • Thumbnail corruption?

When I tried to clone my HDD, I got an error message from Carbon Copy Cloner that a particular iPhoto file was sitting on a bad sector. It was a thumbnail but I could not figure out how to find and delete it . How do I get into the iPhoto library to get to a particular file?
Next I tried to rebuild the thumbnails and iPhoto stalled on this task.
Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto or the HDD.
    How should I proceed?
    DIsk utility finds no problems.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • ITunes 8: When downloading album artwork for making thumbnails, it quits?

I just installed iTunes 8, and I tried opening it. It then starts to download the album artwork thumbnails, then all of a sudden a message shows saying,
"iTunes has stopped working, Windows is trying to blablabla.."
Then it forces you to closes the program. I tried pressing cancel before the message pops-up, but when I try to scroll down, it forces me to quit. Any fixes?

If iTunes 8.0 is crashing or freezing while creating artwork thumbnails, you may have a file containing corrupt artwork in your library. The steps to identify that file are somewhat complex and will involve moving and deleting some files, so only attempt them if you are pretty comfortable with performing those tasks.
When you first open iTunes 8, iTunes scans through your album artwork to build a thumbnail cache. You can disable this scan by opening iTunes in Safe Mode.
To open iTunes in Safe Mode:
Mac: Hold down the Command and Option keys while opening iTunes
Windows: Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys while opening iTunes
If you open iTunes in Safe Mode, iTunes will only cache artwork from the album covers that are visible in the iTunes window. So you can view your library in grid view, and scroll down one row at a time. You will see iTunes generating the thumbnails for each of your albums as you scroll down. This may allow you to see which album is being processed by iTunes when the application crashes or hangs. Once you have an idea which files are causing the issue, locate the folder containing the files themselves in Finder or Windows Explorer, create a zip archive of the album, and delete the files themselves:
To create a Zip archive of the album
Mac: Right-click the folder in Finder that contains the album tracks and choose Compress <folder name>
Windows: Right-click the folder in Windows Explorer that contains the album tracks and choose Send to Compressed Zipped folder
After you have created a zip archive backup of the affected files, and deleted the originals, open iTunes normally (not in safe mode). Scroll back down to where you were when the crash occurred. If you got the right files, iTunes should just skip over that album and keep rendering thumbnails without crashing or hanging. If iTunes hangs or crashes right after the album that you thought was causing the issue, it may have actually been that next album, so repeat the zip and delete steps until you have found the problematic album.
If you identify the album that contains the file that causes the problem, we would be interested in getting a copy of the files to try to analyze the issue further. Please email me <[email protected]> and I will tell you how to send in the affected files for analysis.

  • Movie thumbnails black after upgrading to IOS 5.0.1

    Hi,
I believed this only started happening after upgrading to IOS 5.0.1 (or maybe 5.0). All the movies that I have on my iphone (stuff to keep my daughter occupied in the restaurant: my little pony, etc.) use to display a thumbnail (very important to help my daughter select which one to watch!). However, now they are all black. I thought the cache might be corrupt so I deleted iTunes_Control/Artwork/ArtworkDB using iExplorer. The file gets rebuilt/grows when adding new movies so it seems like it would be related; however, it didn't make a difference. I tried various combinations of deleting the ArtworkDB file, erasing all movies, adding just one movie, restarting... to no avail: movie thumbnails remain stubbornly black.
Would anyone have any suggestion for how to get movie thumbnails to show up again?
    Thanks
    Jimmy

Oh, I've tried this as well: http://blog.scoopz.com/2010/09/11/iphone-camera-roll-thumbnails-corrupt-shows-bl ack-boxes-fix/, but it didn't make a difference; the videos I capture with the iphone are fine, it's the movies I uploaded myself that don't have a thumbnail.

  • IOS 4 update on 3GS: Album Artwork/author/title missing in some places

Okay, I just updated my 3GS to iOS4 with no dramas, except for the iPod app.
    Basically, in Albums mode:
    - any album that wasn't from the iTunes Store (i.e. a CD rip) doesn't display its album artwork thumbnail, either in the list view or the new album summary info panel shown above the track listing when you click the album
    - in addition, the new album summary panel shows “Unknown Artist” and “Unknown Album” even though the page before (the full Albums list) did in fact show the artist and album title
    - however, clicking on a track will in fact show the correct album artwork while the track is playing
In addition, in Cover Flow mode:
    - not only do the above affected albums also appear with no artwork,
    - but also clicking on them shows *no tracks* at all (whereas they do show up in Albums mode and are successfully playable).
What the?! Anyone else found this? Seems to affect both MP3 and AAC ripped formats (and btw they are legal imports of my own CDs).

I have a similar problem. All of my music won't show the album artwork, and some will even show artwork of a Genius Mix. I rotate to Cover Flow, and everything seems fine there; all of the artwork shows up and the songs are all there. But once I flip to portrait and the Now Playing screen, that artwork disappears and I'm left with that prosaic gray musical note or an ugly Genius Mix artwork with four of my original artworks arranged in a 2-by-2 grid. I set iTunes so that it wouldn't sync my music anymore, synced my iPod, turned music back on, and then synced my iPod again, essentially removing music and putting it back on my device, as the abovementioned suggests.

  • Itunes album artwork problem on 11.4.0.18

Recently after the update to iTunes 11.4.0.18 I've noticed my album artwork not displaying correctly for some albums.  They appear jumbled, but only the album thumbnail.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with an AMD processor & 8GB of RAM.
If you right click on a song in an album that appears to have a jumbled thumbnail, and click on Get Info, the album artwork appears perfectly fine in the summary tab as well as the artwork tab.  I've tried deleting the artwork then choosing get artwork for that particular album.  In most cases this has worked, with a few giving a message that artwork could not be found.  I've tried copying the artwork from the Get Info>Artwork tab, deleting it, then pasting it again and this also seems to take care of the problem when viewing the album thumbnail.  It's just crazy having to do this for each and every album that is displaying a jumbled artwork thumbnail.
Anyone come across this in v11.4.0.18?  Is there an easier way to fix this thumbnail problem than going through each and every album that seems messed up?

I can't see your image, but what may work is to delete the folder Album Artwork and then scroll through the entire library in Albums view.

  • How can I get artwork to upload and display consistently?

There are inconsistancies with my experience compared to others. The main similarity is that artwork is not uploading consistatly. I'm seeing the following:
Some artwork that dispplays in iTunes doesn't display on my iPhone (my only iTunes Match enabled device)
Some artwork on songs purchased from iTunes Store doesn't display.
Some artwork on songs purchased from iTunes Storewill display on some songs from an album but not the entire album.
Some artwork that I have added manually will display on some songs but not the entire album.
Artwork thumbnail will display in album list but won't diaplay for individual songs.
I have tried deleting artwork and letting iTunes find it again. I have tried using 600x600 size images. I have verified that artwork size doesn't matter. I've added 1200x1200 artwork and it displays through iTunes Match on my iPhone. For the most part I get artwork that iTunes can't find from Amazon's mp3 store or Discogs.com. Again, some of what I get fromAmazon will display, some won't. Same for Discogs.
I can't find any consistancies in any of it. Everything I think of to try is contradicted by other songs in my library. I've searched through the discussions and tried everything suggested. I've deleted and reupped or re"matched" my library 3 times now.
It seems as if there are no answers.

Wow Steve. I can't believe I have found someone with the exact same issues as I do and when you said in your original post that you couldn't find any "consistencies" with the artwork problems, I said to myself this guy is going through the same **** as I am. When I first heard of iTunes Match for the first time, I spent a whole day adding the missing artwork to my 1258 albums. After purchasing iTunes Match and letting it scan my whole library, there were some 80 albums that had lost their cover art in my library. This is a part from the fact that some albums that DO have cover art do not have their artwork appear on my iPhone and iPad. I have also noticed some albums have their artwork appear on the album page but not when i'm on the artist or individual song page.
I did notice one thing though that I hope they fix. There are some albums of mine, which are compilations of various artists, that I rather have regrouped under one artist for easy finding. When I tried modifying the artist for a complete album which cover art is displayed, the cover art would disappear from my devices.
This shows me that there are many sorting issues that will have to be corrected and I'm guessing alot of them are related to the album cover art issues.
I justed wanted to add the fact that I have noticed the exact same issues as you did and hoping that this will all be resolved someday by Apple because I don't think there is anything more we can do.
