    Hi All
What could be the best way to Export data from 11.5.8 instance to 12.1.2?
    Release: 11.5.8
OS: Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit) verison 9
    DB: 9.2.0.1
    Thanks in advance

What kind of data you are looking to move?
Database export/import is only supported for full database export/import and the application release should be the same on the source/target nodes.
You can move the setup using iSetup or FNDLOAD.

  • I am looking to implement a POS system using my iPad, What is the best software and hardware for POS?

One of my clients wants to transition to an iPad POS system and I want to know what are the best software and hardware options?
I am going to completely upgrade the hardware so I'll need solutions for card readers, printers, cash drawers and iPad enclosures that are compatible with an iPad POS system.
    Any help would be appreciated!

We're a small business and we decided to go on iPad POS deployment and started researching. We chose Maclocks iPad POS stand since it is the most secured way to use your iPad as a POS plus its design is awesome and takes 2 minutes to set it up! They have it for iPad mini too.

  • What is the best RAID configuration for a MacPro as a Logic User?

There ought to be a universal answer to this question: what is the best RAID configuration for Logic Mac Pro users? I will be more specific.
I use Logic Studio, Reason, Ableton, and Motu Symphonic Instrument simultaneously.
I want to fail safe my precious audio files and improve performance as the system reads/writes data from multiple files, from audio tracks to digital samples.
I want to run video files simultaneously to do nifty audio soundtracking to video.
Here is the configuration I have in mind.
HD 1: OS and Logic Studio, Reason/Ableton samples etc. software (non-raid) (250 GB)
HD 2/3: MIrrored RAID set for AUDIO FILES (500 Gb identical pair)
HD 4: Video files / Bouncing (1 TB)
Makes sense right? A disk for reading software. A pair of 500 GB disks for reading/writing audio files and sessions in mirrored array. A 1 TB disk for video and bouncing. The main question I have is, for audio files only, is striped or mirrored better? 64K blocks the best? And are there any more details. I assume to do this in Disk Utility.

Well, both Mirrored and Striped have their pros and cons. If you use mirrored, it will offer no better performance than the spec'ed drive along with it's sata bus speed. The plus point is, if one drive goes down, you have the second as a backup as the complete contents of one drive are mirrored on the other.
With striped you will get a performance boost because all files (for example a single project) will get written across both drives and hence split the load on the drives and the SATA busses. The drawback is that you'll have to make sure you have a good, regular backup schedule in place because when one of the drives goes to drive heaven, you're going to be stuffed without a full backup of both drives.
Exactly what performance boost you'd get will depend on your project, number of files, size of files, fragmentation of files, track count etc. You may find it would be easier to use the 3 drives straight, with no raid and have:
HD 1: OS and Apps. No samples at all.
HD2: Audio Files for Logic projects
HD3: Reason, Ableton, Logic etc instrument sample library
    HD4: Video and bouncing.
Which is what I ended up doing although I use HD4 as an interchangeable backup for HD1 and 2.
There is no universal answer to this as each must make their own choice based on their preferences and needs. Mirrored will give you full backup but on-site, in machine backup. Not much good if something untoward and drastic happens to the physical machine. I think a few people toy with striped RAID but fall on the side of using the drives straight, as in their projects they don't see a big enough gain over splitting the data across your 3 remaining drives without RAID. Studios that seriously consider raid often go out and get a dedicated raid that can offer more variations than raid 0 or raid 1 (Striped and Mirrored) and better throughput.
I hope this helps a little and not just added to the dilemma.

  • SATA still around for some time ? and what is the best HD configuration ?

    Hi,
I want to add 4x1tb hard drives to my mac. But before investing in it, I would like to know if SATA technology will be around for quite some time or is there new technology coming soon ?
Also I am thinking of configuring 2x1tb's as striped raid and other 2x1tb's as time machine back up in mirrored raid config..
I am planning on buying WD Caviar Blacks as per recommendation. Do you guys think this setup will be the best option performance wise ?

just saw this post particularly for WD Caviar's in Raid config. Any comments ??
These drives run hot but that seems to be the same for most 1TB drives. I'd recommend some direct cooling.
Western Digital does not support running these drives in a RAID configuration. I bought 5 of these drives. 1 was DOA (likely due to shipping as the bubble wrap was popped in areas) and one other will fall out of a RAID set every 2 days. According to WD it is because the drive enters a deep recovery cycle and the RAID controller times it out. Why it needs to enter a deep recovery cycle so often is a question they won't answer. Western Digital wants you to pay more for their RAID edition drives which don't enter the deep recovery cycle. I've never has this problem with other HD manufacturers (before these drives I used mainly Hitachi and Seagate with hardware RAID controllers). I use Areca RAID controllers which have worked great for me in the past. The 3 remaining drives I have work fine but WD won't replace this drive just because it fails in a RAID array.
Other Thoughts: You would think we should be able to run HDs in a RAID array without having to spend extra for a drive designed to operate 24x7 when that is not the intended use.
Here are some of the replies from Western Digital support:
"The WD Caviar Black SATA drive is not a RAID edition drive. When creating a RAID, we recommend that you use our RAID edition drives. We cannot guarantee RAID functionality of our desktop drives for reasons listed in the article below.
Title: What is the difference between Desktop edition and RAID (Enterprise) edition hard drives?
    URL: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=1397&pcreated=1131638613 "
"It is normal to experience dropouts in RAID arrays with desktop drives. I recommend returning or exchanging the drives to the place of purchase for RAID edition drives, or contact your RAID controller manufacturer to see if they can provide a RAID controller that can see drives that are in a deep recovery cycle. • What's the best mac configuration setup for Logic?

I think that I didn't configure my Mac good enough to work with Logic and I hear that there is a special configuration that should be used to have everhything work together as best as possible in terems of memory use etc. But what are the best settings? And where do i configure them?

Are you talking about within logic or the actual system?
as far as logic is concerned, the preferences / audio tab will offer you most of the controls to optimize logic for your system.
as far as the actual mac, the best would obviously be a 12 core mac pro, speced till it would spec no more LOL.
but a I5 imac and that much ram is still a reasonable beast in the home studio stakes.
the best way to use all the RAM is to run logic in 64 bit,
find logics icon in the finder, and either right/ctrl click and click get info or press cmd-I.
this will bring up the get info dialog, and uncheck run in 32bit.
hey presto, logic can get to 16gb of RAM (in theory).

  • What is the best set up (hardware and/or software) to store and access movies and music purchased through apple tv without using the computers storage space

I have run out of space on my imac desktop, which only has 500GB of storage, due to the movies, music, etc. that have been purchased through iTunes and Apple TV.  I do not want to delete the purchases but need to free up space on my computer.  I am looking for the best scenario for moving the media to another source and still have access the media from Apple TV and possibly from ipads, macbooks, ps3, etc. within my house.  I have been looking at upgrading the Time Capsule to a larger capicity one and/or having a backup hard drive to the time capsule.  I would like to know what other people are doing to have these features without filling up their computer's hard drive.  Please advise.  If a media server other than the computer is needed please explain.  Thanks for your help.

Can the time capsule be set up to back up both the computer and the external hard drive, therefore creating a second copy of both?
Can the external hard drive be set up to store all the media which can then be accessed by apple tv and other devises as if the media was on the computer OR will the media have to moved back to the computer's hard drive in order to be viewed on other devises?  Another way to look at this is can you set up iTunes to find the media stored on the external hard drive and access it without moving the media back to the computer?
I realize this must be a problem for many people utilizing iTunes and Apple TV to purchase and view movies and listen to music but the solution does not appear to be easily determined.  I'm sure the first solution would be to just buy a computer with a larger hard drive but that is not the most economical.

  • What is the best setup (cords, hardware and software) for converting tape cassettes to mp3 using iMac?

I have a huge collection of tape cassettes that I want in my iTunes library.  I want to know what the best cords, hardware (type of Tape cassette player/recorder) and software to use.

It depends on what kind of inputs your Mac has:
If your iMac is a 2012 or older model it probably has an audio line input, in which case you can directly connect your tape deck outputs to your iMac.  Generally this requires a cable with 2x RCA male connectors on one end and 1x 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo male connector on the other end.
If you have a more recent iMac that does not have a line input you will need to get a USB audio interface like a Focusrite Forte, but in these cases you will need to pay attention to the kind of cable inputs the USB device has.
In both cases you will need recording software.  There are many choices.  I have used Sound Studio with great success for tapes, vinyl and live recordings.  (Note: if you are using a USB audio interface it may come with its own recording software.)
Pay attention to whether or not your tapes were recorded with or without Dolby B or C noise reduction; and also whether or not your tape deck supports none, Dolby B or Dolby C - getting each tape matched with your deck settings makes a big difference in the results.  And depending on how quality conscious you are you may also want or need some noise reduction software, in which case I suggest looking at Wave Arts MR Noise, SoundSoap or Audacity.
You might also consider just purchasing selected CDs instead of investing in all the work required to set up, record, edit & clean up recordings from some of your old tapes.

To share content you need to share an ID for the iTunes and App stores, however, I'd suggest seperate ID's for everything else.

  • What is the best server for my business?

Please see our current set up:
I work for a company that hosts a corporate site and multiple sub sites (drupal)currently about 10 sub sites but always expanding
We have a shared hosting account with our provider and a g5 powerpc running mac osx 10.5 on our local server
    2.5Ghz processor
    2g Ram
    Dual core processor I believe?
At times our web browsing can be very slow
We have approx. 20,000 users in our database that will be accessing most of our microsites and corporate site
We share documents and filesword, excel, and a lot of graphic files (psd's, eps's, etc.)
    What we want:
We would like to store everything locally to increase security
We would love increased speed in comparision to what we're used to now
We may be interested in the various lion osx server features but our major concerns are listed above
What would you recommend we get for a server knowing our expectations
What other benefits are there from having an in-house server as oppose to renting one through a provider

The first place to start looking is your network topology: what is your backbone connection to the WAN (Internet) and your internal LAN configuration?
Serving multiple sites to the WAN is not a problem providing that you have sufficient outbound bandwidth to serve the connections without bandwidth choking. A few (2-10) sites with low loads (requests) can be served through business-class DSL or cable; beyond that, start looking at T1 or better backbones.
Internally, in this day and age, having Gigabit Ethernet backbone is almost the standard; 100BaseT is okay.
Server-wise, your box is getting aged and newer hardware is going to give you better performance as well as software compatibility. Spreading services load (DNS, Web, Email, OpenDirectory) across two or more servers will keep one box from lagging on requests.
Lion Server is capable of serving your needs - a couple of Mini's w/Lion Server could work - but I'd also suggest you examine other hardware and OS (like Ubuntu Server) as also viable options.
I understand the desire to move things internally. You gain the benefits you mentioned. But you also become responsible for security and backup of all your sites, files and systems. Look long before you make the move - it requires research, planning and dedication to take on being a full-on SysAdmin..

  • JCoIDoc / JCo listening to the same server configuration fails

    Hello experts,
I'm trying to use SAP JCo IDoc Library 3.0.5 / SAP JCo Library 3.0.6 for processing of IDocs / BAPIs sent from SAP. When a IDoc server is created with a set of ServerDataProvider properties, the server starts and is able to process the IDocs right. However, when I use the same configuration for starting a plain JCo Server for processing of BAPIs, the Server doesnt start. The getServer() call on JCoServer is rejected with a java.lang.ClassCastException - DefaultServer incompatible with JCoIDocServer. Is there any work around for this?
    Regards, Srinu

I have worked on JcoIDOC & am able to post IDOC in the SAP System. As well as from SAP system am able to tranfer the idoc to XML in a local file system.
