As firefox does not be able to complete downloads iw ould like to disable its download manager

I have DAP as my default download manager.Sometimes tho Firefox decides to do the download it`s self.
These downloads hardly ever complete ,yet they indicate complete.
I would therefore like to disable Firefox download manager and rely totally on DAO.
Please advise.
Thank you
Michael

Welcome to the forum.
The updates on firefox, like many other things in firefox are customisable / customizable, you can set it for instance to notify you but not update, or you check manually for updates, or allow it to update automatically.
* see updating firefox
* you may also find software update failed useful
BTW you appear to be using an experimental beta version of firefox.
If you are new to firefox it may well be worth installing the current release firefox 3.6.
*otherwise
** you will remain on experimental versions and updates to those which you may not always want, - some may not always work or be compatible with other software
** you will not have the current stable version
You should then follow the instructions to create an additional 'profile' so that each version has its own profile, otherwise you are likely to run in to problems. ( The "profile" stores bookmarks and a lot of your important firefox data, you do not want that to get messed up with beta editions of software) If you ever uninstall firefox note the option to remove settings removes all data bookmarks etc from ALL installed versions of firefox. (Firefox normally, otherwise, does a good job of presering settings and bookmarks etc)

• Firefox does not start in Windows Vista. It can be seen in the task manager that the process is running. But nothing happens. After deleting the process it still does not work.

Are there any issues with Firefox 10 and Vista? IE works.

Hi webero,
There are no Known Issues that I am aware of. You should take a look at Firefox is already running but is not responding and our article called Firefox will not start.
Hopefully this helps!

• Firefox does not close in the normal fashion. I have to go to Task Manager and end the process

I am operating on a Windows XP OS. I have been a FireFox user for several years. I am using version 3.6.13 Several months ago I noticed that if I closed FireFox I could not open it again. I got a message box stating that FireFox was still running. And, I fact, Task Manager did show that it was still active. I had to end the process there, before I could open FireFox again. It will remain active in the background and the CPU will be maxed out, thus creating problems for other programs. How can I remedy this problem? btw, I have trouble opening IE now.

Using Firefox 3.6.20 and Windows XP Home SP3. Firefox sporatically deletes bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar. Additionally, when I try to import from a saved HTML file, Firefox does not import the complete file. Results are inconsistent.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• A grey screen. Tried to completely remove mozilla firefox does not help

Tried different versions of mozilla firefox does not help

• Latest version of Firefox does not even start up, it just stays in Processes but refuses to be shut down or started up. Same with Beta.

I've had an old firefox installer which I have been using for some time, though a few days ago it tried to update to a new version. Up comes an update bar as usual. Problem is when it is done firefox does not start. Left in processes in task manager is a firefox which refuses to be killed. Any further tries to start firefox will just add another process also unable to be killed. Before I had to reboot the computer every time it tried to update, just to be able to uninstall firefox and install the older version I had. Now, unfortunately, I deleted that old version, so now I have no functioning firefox at all. Same thing happens with the latest beta version.

i forgot the exact text of the original error message, but it was looking for a *.dll that was not there - as if the install had not completed.
tried re-installing & it would stop in the middle of the download with a completely different error message - i was going to screen grab it, but then i got it to work!
Anyway, after uninstalling everything related to iTunes, emptying my recycle bin, cleaning up a bunch of unnecessary files, and stopping some programs that were running in the background (using task manager) - i did a complete re-install from the Apple iTunes website & it worked fine.
thanks!

• Firefox does not delete the .part file from my download folder after a successful download

First off, I'm on a MacBook Pro, running 10.6.4 and FF3.6.12
I've recently noticed that on occasion Firefox does not seem to delete the .part file associated with a successful download. The .part file (with a name consisting of a string of random characters followed by a .part extension) is visible in my Download folder stack, although not visible in the actual folder view. I cannot drag this file from the stack to the trash.
The real problem stems from the fact that this seems to create a directory error on my hard drive. Were I to run Disk Utility (which I will have to do... again!), it would return with an error saying something like "incorrect block length", requiring me to boot up from my install disk and repair the drive.
Is this maybe a bug? Is there something I might be doing wrong? Could an extension like AdBlock be messing up my downloads?

It seems that FireFox leaves those partial download files if for any reason they get interrupted. It's possible to resume the download through various uninteresting means, but if you're like me, it gets filled up with files that I intentionally did not complete downloading.
If you're terminal-savvy, you can set up a script that cleans up old .part files. Here's what I've set in my crontab:
0 * * * * /usr/bin/find ~/Downloads/*.part -atime +1 -exec rm {} \; &> /dev/null
It will delete any files in my downloads folder that are at least 1 day old.
To install this in your crontab, launch terminal and type "crontab -e"
This will bring up a text editor, probably vi. You'll see a bunch of ~'s down the left side. Type "i" to go into "insert" mode. The bottom left will say "-- INSERT --"
Copy and paste (or type) the line of code I have above.
Hit enter just to make sure you have a newline at the end.
Hit "Escape" to exit the insert mode.
Hit Shift-Z Shift-Z (that's Shift-Z twice) to exit the editor.
You should see a status message "crontab: installing new crontab"
If you type "crontab -l" you should see your newly installed crontab.
At the top of the next hour, any .part files that are more than a day old should be deleted, and this should continue forever.

• Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

Born2die! Brilliant. I am a desktop clicker and never knew Firefox had a safe mode.
Thank You!
I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?
I have:
Java Console 6.0.11, Java Console 6.0.13, Java Console 6.0.15
Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?

• Firefox does not run smooth while loading websites.

Firefox does not work smoothly when it is loading any webpage. Specially, when I open new tabs and load new websites while it is still loading last website in other tab, the situation becomes worse. Main problems that occur are - page will not scroll, or scrolling hangs for a sec or so, works a little bit and it happens repeatedly, new tabs will open but not smoothly, website loading also gets affected in similar way. The dot that revolves on tabs while loading any webpage gets really annoying. It revolves intermittently. Imagine a car engine not starting, it starts, stops, starts, stops. That's what happens with Firefox. But once all webpages are completely loaded and scrolled 2 or 3 times from top to bottom of the page, then it is all good. All the problems occur when page is still loading in fore- or background in any or all of the tabs. I tried to run Firefox with all add-on and plugins disabled, tried to refresh Firefox from troubleshoot information. But nothing helps. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I guess my laptop is not having memory issues. I am using Windows 7 x64 based system. RAM is 4 GB. All other software work well. Most importantly, Chrome has no such issues in comparison to Firefox. Also, when IDM (internet download manager) takes over some downloads, the Firefox hangs for few seconds. Please help.
Thank you.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

• Firefox does not remember our usernames for hotmail anymore

Since our update to Firefox 4.0, Firefox does not remember our usernames for Hotmail anymore. Only the last used username is remembered.
We don't have problems with other websites regarding this.
So why is it only with Hotmail?
I cleared all cookies, but no change....
Can you help us out?

You can't save the name and password from Hotmail via the Password Manager in current Firefox versions. Hotmail (live.com) uses JavaScript to create the login form.<br />
You should be able to use save form data to save user names and other form data like I posted above.
Don't you get a drop down list that shows previously entered names?

Firefox does not stop loading even after the site is loaded and continues as if it is still loading. I have clocked it to 15 minutes, why? edit
Details

Sorry, I should distinguish between slow loading and manual reloading.
I understood your problem to be that Firefox never finished loading the page, i.e., some part of the page was loading too slowly.
By reloading, I meant Ctrl+r (or the reload button), to manually reload the page. You can disregard any cached files and reload all content fresh from the server by adding the Shift key, i.e., Ctrl+Shift+r (helpful when specific sites do not load correctly).
If the page is automatically reloading itself over and over, that sounds like a completely different problem.

• Firefox does not open after I downloaded Microsoft antivirus, why? How to fix it?

Firefox worked fine on my desktop for years but when I downloaded Microsoft antivirus two days ago, Firefox does not work. It will not open anymore.

Thanks LN.
Now that I got an expert's attention, there are two problems that bug me all the time and have not able to get an explanation/solution:
1. After restart, the trackpad lost it's ability to tab and click. I always have to use the mouse to tap the user (myself) to get the tiny signin password window. After that, all trackpad functions work fine. This happens for me through Marverik and now Yosemite.
2. This one only happens recently after Yosemite upgrade. Everytime after restart, I have to reset my Verizon Router manually in order to establish network connection to access internet sites.
Thank you for your help,
...Jeff

• Firefox does not show full websites

Suddenly, Firefox does not show complete websites. IE does just fine.
Here's sample:
http://i40.tinypic.com/lboxv.jpg
What do we do? Some sites show fine, some like this - a list view, or whatever. And it's not online issue, as like I said - IE shows same sites just fine.

Hello ukrkoz, if you have the same issue again try to clear cookies and cache. Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the Clear now button.
