Even though I have "block pop-ups" checked in preferences, whenever I try to navigate to a new page in Safari, I am redirected through a spam page first, usually from Mac Cleaner or some other related bogus service. This only happens with Safari and only since downloading Yosemite. HELP!!! So annoying... 2 extra clicks to get the page I actually clicked the link for. Is this the new price of using Safari? Cause it's not worth it.

There is nothing special about Safari here... other browsers are equally susceptible to adware, if not more so in some ways. Once you've installed adware on your system, it can do what it likes.
What happens when you try to click on Niel's links? There has been some adware recently that has started preventing infected machines from downloading AdwareMedic. It sounds like that's what you're experiencing, although a direct download link should work. If it doesn't, things have gotten very bad indeed!
Try pasting the following address into Safari's address bar:

(The forum will probably turn that into a link, which the adware on your system may manipulate... re-type it if necessary.)
If that doesn't work, try downloading the app from another machine and transferring it via flash drive, or follow the manual removal instructions here:

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad. All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?
