As my bookmark folders get numerous I need to sort them.

I have a large number of bookmark folders that I would like to sort by name. It is difficult to scroll up and
down to find the folder I want. I do understand how to sort my bookmarks WITHIN a folder but it would
seem logical that the folders themselves would be sorted alphabetically. I also understand your awesome bar but want to sort the folders themselves.
Thanks Ron

Hi Ron, this feature isn't available on the menu, but you can do it in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b) or in the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b).
In either of those, right-click on Bookmarks Menu and choose Sort by Name.
Success?

  • No way to STOP bookmark folders popping-open when dragging something across them

Bookmark folders in the bookmarks SIDEbar pop-open if an image is dragged across them not-quickly-enough. This is true even if the image is being dragged from, say, the Finder's desktop over to another Finder location or Finder folder, or to some other application (e.g. to be dropped into a Filemaker record) - and merely passing-over a Firefox window that happens to also be open though NOT being the active app. I'm told by Firefox support that there's no way to disable this "feature".
Furthermore, the folder then remains open, often obscuring all the other bookmark-sidebar folders until it's manually closed.
And finally, if the bookmarks sidebar isn't even open, this drag-across activity will often open BOTH the bookmarks sidebar AND whatever folder was the dragging cursor's accidental victim.
It's fine to have this folder pop-open as an OPTION, but it would be MUCH preferable to have the OPTION to shut-off this behavior.

Please note that the Mac's OS X has this folder pop-open feature, but (1) it is an OPTION that can be disabled in the Finder Preferences. And even if enabled, the user can set how much delay ioccurs before folders pop-open.
    Options GOOD! :-)
[To open immediately, Mac users have the option set and simply press the space-bar.]

  • When I go into my bookmark list they are random, I then sort them by name (A-Z) but when I leave site they do not remain in order. How do I keep them sorted by name permanently?

The bookmark lists, either unsorted or tagged, do not remain in alphabetical order when I leave site, how do I make this a permanent change?

  • Bookmark folders duplicated after upgrade

I have noticed over the years that when I upgrade to a new Firefox, the bookmark folders are duplicated. If I sort, there are now 3 sorted sets of bookmark folders under bookmark menu. In the early days, I took hours and manually merged or deleted individual items. Briefly I had an add on that eliminated duplicates but I believe it was incompatible with ff 5 or 6. Any current quick solution to eliminate duplicate folders and merge bookmarks?

Check your about:config the following (also check that you have nothing for that variable in user.js, if and only if, you have a user.js):
[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.places.importBookmarksHTML Browser.places.importBookmarksHTML] When migrating from a version that uses a flat file to store bookmarks, this preference determines whether the old bookmarks are imported.
    * False: Do not import the contents of bookmarks.html. (Default)
You should not be responding to any message to import bookmarks, since you are still using the same profile with an update.
You should be deleting the unwanted folder of bookmarks rather than haphazardly having "Duplicate Bookmark Remover" remove a duplicate from one folder or another -- see "[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkplaces/ CheckPlaces]" extension for something current. The unwanted folder is likely to be at the bottom of the "Bookmarks Menu" looking in the bookmarks sidebar, or in the bookmarks library list.
Don't forget that you do have bookmark backups for 5 days for which there was actual usage in a day, and you might want to increase the number of backups to the new default of 10.

  • Can't seem to get all the bookmark folders in alfabetical order

I have tried just about everything to get my bookmark folders in to alphabetical order most are right but at the bottom of the list there are quit a few folders that are not. I have tried the organize bookmark command than the view than sort than by name but it just wont do it.

I can't get all of my bookmarks in alphabetical order either and I find it utterly preposterous that something as simple as organizing bookmarks turns into a cumbersome search over the internet.
What is maddening is that there is something in Firefox that will alphabetize your bookmarks, but only in half-ass fashion leaving you to scratch your head and ask the question, "what were they thinking?"
What I mean by half-ass is that when I go to "Organize Bookmarks..." highlight the bookmarks menu and then select Views-->Sort-->By name I find that the book marks are not in order after I am done. Why have these buttons if they clearly will not work. I plan to video tape this and put it on YouTube to expose the utter stupidity in something that ought to be trivial.
Has anyone ever considered the case where a user has so many bookmarks that they NEED to be in alphabetical order?
Every computer on the planet organizes ALL files and ALL directories in order. So, tell me, where is the logic in the way Firefox organizes their bookmarks (seems to be chronological)? Chronological might be okay for a small number of bookmarks (like five or so) or recently bookmarked pages, but I have hundreds of bookmarks!
There's a reason why we alphabetize things. How does one find a book in a library?
In Firefox I have organized bookmarks in a directory (and I think this might even work), but this still doesn't address the issue I have with needing to have EVERY file and EVERY folder in ALPHABETICAL order! WTF? This is just idiocy.

  • When bookmarking a page, I can't get the complete list of bookmark folders to dropdown in order to select any folder in which to bookmark page. What do you set to get whole list of folders in Bookmarks to drop down?

When bookmarking a page, I can't get the complete list of bookmark folders to drop down in order to select any folder in which to bookmark page. The 'Folder:' bar has 'Bookmarks Menu' showing. The arrow on the bar drops down 5 recent folders to which pages have been saved, but the pop down arrow to the right of the bar just opens to show the three categories and 'New Folder' button. What do you set to get whole list of folders in Bookmarks to drop down?

To all, embarrassingly enough, I have discovered that I didn't know how to expand the three categories including 'Bookmarks Menu' in the 'Bookmark This Page' pop up interface. It was expanded by default on the initial Firefox opening and first page bookmark attempt. Next use it only showed categories. I clicked and double clicked the 'Bookmarks Menu' line, but failed to see the small, shaded triangle used to expand/collapse list. If it appears collapsed, just tap triangle at left of line to see all folders. It seems to open the same way after I do it for first time. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for all the attempts to help.

  • Currently I have 10 bookmark folders, but when I try to bookmark a new webpage, I only get the option of 5 of them. Is there anything I can do to make them all visible?

Currently I have 10 bookmark folders, but when I try to bookmark a new webpage, I only get the option of 5 of them. Is there anything I can do to make them all visible? I am now having to bookmark it to the "bookmark menu" and then manually moving it to the folder I want cause it is not being displayed.

No there is no arrow besides any of the folders (I do not have any sub-folders); I do have a "choose..." option, but that does not work either in showing all of the folders.

  • Vertical Toolbar thingy with a search field and my bookmark folders underneath. How do I get rid of it?

This might sound ridiculous but here it goes: I accidentally hit a couple keys on my netbook keyboard. This made a toolbar pop up on the left side of the window. It's vertical and has a search field at the top, then listed underneath are my bookmark folders in expandable/collapsible tree format. I can't find any reference to it in any of the options. I just want it to go away. It's kind of bothering me a lot more than it should. Please help me get rid of this.

  • Lost bookmarks. I unwittingly deleted the bookmarks in the "recently bookmarked" folder. I did not know that this also deleted the same bookmarks located in my bookmark folders. Where do I go to get them back?

I was using the Show All Bookmarks and tidying up some of the older ones that I did not use anymore. Under the folder "Recently Bookmarked" were urls that I had saved under their appropriate folders. So, being tidy, I deleted them, thinking they were duplicated. Now I find that the bookmarks that had been under my various folders have all gone. Implication is that by deleting the contents of "Recently Bookmarked" I took out ALL references to the urls, not just a duplicate record.
I want to know how to find them - they are not in the Windows recycle bin.

Try restoring one of the previously, automatically backed-up Bookmarks. Refer to this help article on "[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20bookmarks#os=win&browser=fx8 Backing up and Restoring bookmarks]" (see section "Restoring from backups"). Hope this helps.

  • How can I get all bookmark folders displayed (Not just recent or most used) when I click on add bookmark?

This mandatory comment is unneeded and stupid

    Hey!
Choose the bookmark that you want to displayed and transfer them to "Bookmark Toolbar". You will able to see the bookmarks that you want to displayed.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Lost-All bookmarks and bookmark folders

All my bookmarks and bookmark folders have disappeared. How do I recover them? I am using safari 1.3.2 Can anyone help with this?

    warning: it's long
I too lost all my bookmarks/folders in Safari -- after a Verizon DSL install-induced browser hi-jacking. See http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/?p=78
for a story that captures my own experience nearly to the last detail. But, unfortunately, unlike the blog author my bookmarks.plist was not a back up of my extensive bookmark collection -- it was a big zero, like some other responders to that reported.
I am a total amateur, just your basic user, and couldn't follow the code discussion toward the bottom of the blog, it's over my head. But, although not knowledgable, I am desperate and persistent and rarely accept "can't be done" answers, even if I don't really know what I'm doing and keep getting that same answer.
I tried all the standard suggestions so far, searching .plists, searching my hd for anything safari, anything bookmark, anything .html. Read many of the discussions on lost bookmarks, tried everything I could understand how to do.
I stumbled upon in the ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari over a thousand files with crazy number/character names that all have suffix ".webbookmark" I probably did have over 1000 bookmarks. When I double click one of those .webbookmark files in that folder, a webpage springs forth in Safari, one of my former bookmarks. Also, click in the finder on one of those ~.webbookmark file and 'get info' and it shows the .html file name and bookmark name for it.
I believe this is somehow my old bookmark collection, and not a history cache, for various reasons: upon clicking, I recognize the webpage that appears and I know bookmarked anywhere from a few months ago, as well as some oldies, but have not visited recently. Random spot checking seems like no sites I recently visited but did not bookmark are showing up.
Would not be fun to double click every one of the 1000+ .webbookmark files in the metadata/Safari to open the page it represents and then "add bookmark" in Safari, to restore my bookmarks. Is there some automatic way of doing that? Am I not understanding the metadata folders enough and have tricked myself into believing they are my real bookmarks and not history or useless stuff. It's totally possible my ignorant forays and fleeting glimpses (but not, out of the corner of my eye....) are fool's gold.
Can someone let me know whether this is worth pursuing, and if so, how, and if so how so in plain terms because of my limited knowledge and floundering around without understanding what I'm doing and what it means.
I know, I know, I should have backed up before I did the *&^@! install, I should back up before I do anything, and do it regularly anyway. Don't laugh too hard now, but get this, when I did back up before, I didn't know what I was doing and just backed up "documents" folder (see, told you I was ignorant; but, older and wiser now...) But I had no idea something like getting DSL would screw up my browser (and my apple mail -- that's a different awful story too, still unresolved) and who knows what else.
No, I have not used another browser since early 2005, and wasn't as 'bookmark crazy' then as I've been the last few years (or my life wasn't as complicated then and I didn't need to bookmark a lot of important, and I mean important, as well as obscure sites, that I don't need on a daily basis, but do need, but don't want to search through thousands of google hits to find the right one, when I realize I need it again...). Yes, sure, i will salvage what I can from IE and Netscape although they're way incomplete and frozen in time of simpler days.
A thousand curses upon my evil DSL provider who thinks browser/mail/etc. hi-jacking is fun and smart PR.
I will appreciate any help. (and it's understood if the real answer is "can't be done;" worth trying here though) Just point me to the right discussion if this has already been attended to.
    Thanks!

  • How can one create bookmark folders?

How can one create bookmark folders in Firefox on a Samsung Galaxy S4? I have tried a couple of the suggested apps in Google Play Store but can't get them to interface with Firefox. Thanks for your help!!

  • Get numerical values from 2D array of string

    Hello!
I start by saying that I have a base knowledge of LabView. I'm using LabView 2011. I'm doing some communications test via Can-Bus protocol. As you can see in pictures of the block diagram and of the front panel that I've attached I'm using "Transmit Receive same Port" LabView example. It works very good but I would need to insert the 8 data bytes that I receive from the server in 8 different numerical variables so that I could use them to make some operations. How can I get numerical values from the 2D array of string that I attached?
Every example that you can provide is important!
    Thank you very much!

    Hi martiflix,
ehm: to unbundle data from a cluster I would use the function Unbundle(ByName)…
When you are new to LabVIEW you should take all the FREE online resources offered by NI on their website!

  • I'm running firefox on a Macbook Air 10.6.8, and the bookmark folders in the bookmarks drop down menu don't open when I mouse over them or click on them. How do I fix this?

I've run diagnostics on the mac air, reloaded firefox, and tried eerything I could think of. The 'show all bookmarks' page works perfectly- it's just the dropdown menu that has problems. All the folders have numerous items in them except for one- which only has two. That one works- the pop out menu for that folder comes out on the left side. All the arrows for the folders are on the right side (pointing right) of the of the drop down bookmark menu, pointing at the right edge of the computer screen. The dropdown menu appears on the right half of the screen, close to the edge. Strangely, my main computer is an iMac desktop, and my mozilla bookmarks dropdown menu folders open on top of the dropdown menu, not out on the side.

I figgered it out. The resolution of the screen was set at 600x800, so the bookmarks dropdown menu took up more space than usual. The pop out folder contents didn't have enough room to pop out. With a resolution for a slightly smaller display the drop down bookmarks menu functions perfectly.
