When the checksum fails, either the IOS image you are trying to load is corrupted (or incomplete) or the tftp download corrupted the image.
I would start by using an older, smaller image. Such as 8.2(5). Tftp that image to get the ASA booted, then upgrade to 9.0(2).

Here is my asa 5505 configuration and at bottom i am pasting cisco 3760 configuration, I am having trunking problem and seen other people having the same issue but no solution.
Problem: when i connect any device on Switch 3760 port 1 which is trunked i cannot communicate with niether vlan.
I have tried device with both static vlan configuration

if i change port 1 to access mode or define native vlan it work with one vlan.

Message was edited by: macboyHello,
I can see many people have visited the post but there isn't any reply.
I think this is because of the following:
The configurations are long and most people dont want to read it. Try adding only relevant configuration to the issue.
The problem description is not clear. You mention trunking problem but what exactly is the problem? Can you ping from switch to ASA? Is any Vlan information being passed or they are all failing. Try to be as much specific as possible.
Which port of the switch connects to the ASA?
Using portfast on a trunk (interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1) is not recommended.
Regards,
Felipe.

Cisco ASA 5505 Password Problem
I recently ran into a telnet, console, and enable password issue that was unexpected and I am hoping someone can explain what happened.
I had two working Cisco ASA 5505's that were two end-points of a Site-to-Site VPN. I had used the ASDM file management tools to copy disk0 startup-config.cfg to a file named old-startup-config.cfg on disk0, on both ASA systems, and I wanted those two files to function as good working startup-config backups that I could return to, right there on the firewall, if I had to. I also used the ASDM file management tools to make configuration "zip" backups to my local computer. I am aware that the actual startup-config file is some type of hidden file.
I had made some changes to both Cisco ASA 5505s, but no password changes, and everything was working great and was reloading great. Then, I suddenly found that I needed to revert back to the old working configurations that I had backed up previously. I used the ASDM file management tools to copy old-startup-config.cfg back to startup-config.cfg on disk0 on both machines. I think I may have also issued the CLI command copy old-startup-config.cfg startup-config. I asked both systems to reload without writing the running-config's to memory.
When the systems reloaded, the console, telnet, and enable passwords were no longer recognized on the CLI and Web interface. The interfaces loaded normally, but the passwords didn't work and the cisco default passwords didn't work either. I had to go to each unit's physical location and perform a power cycle and console password recovery.
I am not sure why that happened. Is the startup-config.cfg file on disk0 an altered version of the actual startup-config configuration with missing or encrypted password credentials? I would have never guessed in a million years that my procedure would have knocked out the enable password.
Instead of copy startup-config.cfg old-startup-config.cfg, should I have issued the command copy startup-config old-startup-config.cfg to make a local backup of a working configuration?
I have one more semi-related question. If one uses ASDM file management to create a zip backup of a startup-config or running-config and then proceeds to restore a running-config, when does the restored running-config take effect? If password recovery is disabled then you are locked out hard. You have to sacrifice the config to "re-admin" the appliance. Sorry for the bad news but that's the way it is by design. If there was a "back door" it would hardly be a security appliance would it?

CISCO ASA 5505 VPN problem in Windows 7
I am using CISCO ASA 5505. Client PC with Windows XP can use IE to make the VPN connection normally.
However, client PC with Windows 7 cannot use IE to make the VPN connection.
It just show the error of "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Would you please help?
Thank you very much!Hi Timothy,
Could you please try disabling UAC in Win 7. Also try to connect from a machine where you have admin privileges (in case you are trying connection from a restricted machine.
Also, add the site under trusted sites in IE. i.e if you are connecting to https://1.1.1.1 or https://vpn.abc.com then please add it under the trusted sites:
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks,
Vishnu Sharma -
I've got a new 5505, and I've run through two wizards: one to start up, one to add client VPN. As a result, I can now connect from a client, the client gets the right info (ip adress, dns, gateway), but it cannot connect to any of the servers on the 'inside' network. The config is here:
http://www.dubbele.com/asaconfig.txt.
I've tried a lot of different things, but I cannot seem to get what's going wrong. Any clues would be very welcome!John,
I strongly suggest to always use different ip-scheme for each of vpn RA tunnels and that they not be the same any of the asa inside interfaces.
interface Vlan1
ip address 192.168.6.25 255.255.255.0
ip local pool vpnhaarlem 192.168.6.150-192.168.6.175 mask 255.255.255.0
for vpnhaarlem do the following.
use a unique private IP scheme for it as you have done with rotterdam , as an example lets use 10.20.20.0/24
remove
no ip local pool vpnhaarlem 192.168.6.150-192.168.6.175 mask 255.255.255.0
add
ip local pool vpnhaarlem 10.20.20.1-10.20.20.254 mask 255.255.255.0
This first line acl is ok but persoannly I suggest to be more granular allowing specific RA tunnel group networks and not just permit ip any, again example for 10.20.20.0/24 network .
stick with one no NAT acl for RA tunnels like inside_nat0_outbound remove the 1 and 2 otherwise you will have to create more
nat (inside) access-list statements for RA networks.
remove
no access-list inside_nat0_outbound_1 extended permit ip any 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0
no access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0
add
access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0 10.20.20.0 255.255.255.0
for the rotterdam tunnel group it is fine with unique IP scheme , I would apply my suggestion above
no access-list inside_nat0_outbound_2 extended permit ip 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.6.128 255.255.255.192
access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.6.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.5.0 255.255.255.0
re-adjust the no-nat acl statement bellow
no nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound_2
nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound
Let us know how it works out

Good morning,
I'm having the following problem. I configured a ASA 5505 with VPN and a VPN Remote Access Site-to-site. Everything is working, but when I reload the ASA does not work anymore VPNs, Remote Access error 412 and the Site-to-site does not connect more to solve, I have to reset and reconfigure the ASA. This is happening dopo updating the ASA, I have version 842-k8 and asdm645-106.
Does anyone have any idea what can be?
Thank you.

: endDavid,
In order to understand why LDAP is not working run a "debug ldap 255" and then try to login or run a AAA test.
Attach the output to find out the issue.

Remote Access VPN Problem with ASA 5505
After about ~1 year of having the Cisco VPN Client connecting to a ASA 5505 without any problems, suddenly one day it stops working. The client is able to get a connection to the ASA and browse the local network for only about 30 seconds after connection. After that, no access is available to the network behind the ASA. I tried everything that I can think of to try and troubleshoot the problem, but at this point I am just banging my head against a wall. Does anyone know what could cause this?
Here is the running cfg of the ASA

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!I made the change that you requested by moving the VPN pool to the 192.168.3.0 network. Unfortunately, now traffic isn't flowing to the inside network at all. I was going to make a specific route as you suggested, but as far as I can see the routes are already being created correctly on the VPN client's end.
Here is the route print off of the computer behind the (test) client:

Problems upgrading ASA 5505 memory
I am trying to get experience with 8.4 code on my 5505. I purchased a Cisco 512MB memory upgrade and installed it. It booted up once and I thought I was ok. I then looked down and noticed that all lights were blinking on the front panel and I had no console access.
Since I dont have smartnet on my personal 5505, calling TAC for help isnt an option. That is why I spent extra money on Cisco memory but it looks that didnt help. I am assuming all blinking lights isnt a good thing but I havent been able find an explanation.
I will try reseating the memory to see if that is the problem. I put the ASA on an anti-static mat and had it and myself properly grounded.
If this doesnt fix it, I will return the Cisco memory to the vendor and go back to the original installed memory. The ASA 5505 worked fine on 8.2.5.
Would appreciate any suggestions,
RonRonald and James,
It has been over a month since you posted, so perhaps your issue was resolved. I actually experienced the exact same issue with my personal ASA 5505 today following an upgrade to 512MB. What really surprised me was James' comment that his worked for about 12 hours and stopped. That's exactly what happened to me today. It might have been 13 hours, but it was definitely in the ballpark.
The first thing I did was just disconnect power and re-connect the power to see if it magically went away. (I've never had to cycle the power on my ASA before, so I was not hopeful this would work. In fact, I was glad it did not work, as that would concern me even more.)
The next thing I did was disconnect everything, open the case, remove the RAM, blow out all of the dust using compressed air, and then re-install the RAM. So far, so good, but it has only been 15 minutes.
I'll keep an eye on this, obviously, but I am nonetheless curious to hear more about your situations. Were you able to resolve the problem permanently or were you unable to make the upgrade to 512MB?
UPDATE - My ASA continued to have issues with the new RAM module. It turned out to be a defective SIMM. I contacted the seller and returned the defective SIMM. They sent a new one and it works just fine. -
Firewall Cisco ASA 5505 new interface license problem
Hi
I have one ASA 5505 with a Base License
The problem is when i want to use a new named interface the system says "With current License maximum number of named interfaces allowed is 3. Name cannot be set for this interface"
And the question is if with this base license the interface cannot be used or only cannot be named?
here the output of my firewall:

The ASA5505 has with Base License the limitation of 3 Vlan interface of which 1 is also limited in access (shown by the above output mentioning DMZ Restricted)
For an interface on the ASA to operate it must have a name with the command "nameif"
If you already have 3 Vlan interfaces in use then with this license you wont be able to configure 4th Vlan interface without getting a license that supports more interfaces. I guess that would be the Security Plus license.
I know that this has come as a surprise to several users that have posted here on the forums. I too think that its a needles "feature" in the ASA to limit the use of the device in such a way.

Hi all,
I received a firewall ASA 5505 and I have a problem with it. It always boot on rommon. When I do show boot I get those informations:
ciscoasa# show boot
BOOT variable =
Current BOOT variable =
CONFIG_FILE variable =
Current CONFIG_FILE variable =
I'm really confused on why it doesn't have any values registered for the boot.
Thanks,
FrancisHi Francis,
Usually the firewall boots with the the first application image that it finds in internal flash memory.
Try the following:
>Set the boot variable as:
hostname(config)# boot system url
url being:
{flash:/ | disk0:/ | disk1:/}[path/]filename
>Save the configuration:
hostname(config)# wr mem
>Now confirm that the boot image has been set:
show bootvar
Once done, reload the ASA and check if it is still going to the rommon mode.

Hello,
I have problem with ASA 5505. One of our customers brought me ASA 5505 with deleted flash. They want me to fix the problem. I tried to load image from rommon mode, but failed many many times. I used 4 different software files. I tried many many times and most often I get :

with asa722-k8.bin file.
In one ocasion, when I booted asa804-k8.bin, ASA attempted to boot but stucked immediately and became idle. Noting happened, I leave it 24 hours and noting happened.
Please if someone knows what to do, let me know !!!

I just reloaded a image to my asa 5505 and did the following.
Saved the image file : asa831-k8.bin and installed a tftp server app (pumpkin)
added the following :
rommon #0> ADDRESS=192.168.0.? (Where this is the address you want to give the asa)
rommon #1> SERVER=192.168.0.? (Where this is the address of the laptop you have pumpkin installed on

press Enter, should display the following:

rommon #4> tftp
when it finished doing its thing I then rebooted the ASA and it loaded the new image. -

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks! Thanks again for your reply, and sorry about the late response, havent gotten back to this issue until just now. I applied the above command as you specified, and unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. Below are the logs from the VPN Client for the connection + attempted browsing of a network share that is behind the ASA, and the new running configuration.

I'm at a loss myself as to why this isn't working, and i'm sure that you are running out of solutions yourself. Any other ideas? I really need to get this working.
Thanks so much!

VLAN problems with SG200-8P and Cisco ASA 5505 (Sec Plus license)
Hi, I've been pulling my hair out trying to get simple vlan trunking working between these devices.
Basically, no clients on VLAN 99 (guest) will receive DHCP ip addresses when plugged into the SG200. I have the SG200<>ASA VLAN trunk configured correctly, as I know it, and I've tried numerous variations (set trunk as general tag/untagged, etc., set the ap port to general tag/untag, etc). Both AP's work properly when connected to the ASA e0/3 port but either will only pull the "inside" VLAN dhcp address when connected to the SG200 switch
VLAN 1 - inside (has separate dhcp scope assigned by ASA)
VLAN 99 - guest (has separate dhcp scope assigned by ASA)

Second ubiquiti AP
Both VLAN 1 and VLAN 99 clients work properlyFrustrated - yes. Confused - maybe not as much, but I could have put some more effort into the overall picture.
There are two VLANs (1 - native) and (99 - guest). There is a trunk port between the SG200 and the ASA configured as 1-untagged 99 - tagged.
No clients connected to the SG200 on VLAN 99 are able to access the ASA VLAN 99 using either a static VLAN IP address or DHCP. The problem occurs whether I configure the SG200 with an access port 99-tagged or Trunk port 1UP, 99T or general port 1U, 99UP or any combination thereof.
Anything connected to the SG200 on the native VLAN works properly.
Anything connected to the ASA VLANs (1 or 99) works properly
I have not yet tried to see what the switch is doing with the VLAN tags but I suspect I have some mismatch with the Linksys/Cisco SG200 way of setting up a VLAN and how traditional Cisco switches work.
I was hoping someone with a working SG200 - Cisco ASA setup could share their port/trunk/VLAN settings or perhaps point me in the right direction.
SG200 g2 - trunk port (1UP, 99T) -- Access Point
SG200 g2 - access port (99U)
SG200 g8 - trunk port (1UP, 99T) connected to ASA5505 e0/3
ASA5505 e0/3 (switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,99, switchport trunk native vlan 1, switchport mode trunk)
Thanks,
