ASA appears to randomly stop forwarding/routing traffic

Hi guys, got a curly one -
Our ASA appears to randomly stop forwarding traffic between interfaces. Traffic does not forward for several minutes, then it starts again. After a while the traffic stops again for a few minutes, and the cycle repeats.
If you are on a directly connected network you can still ping the ASAs local interface (I have ICMP turned on for testing). However you cannot ping the ASA from any remote network. I can ping or trace all the way up to the last hop without an issue. You also cannot ping across the ASA to servers on the other side, even from the immediate next hop (which as I mentioned above, still works) .
This would appear to point to a routing problem? Strangely, routing still functions for the management network - I have had no problems reaching the command line from elsewhere in the network.
Has anyone encountered something similar to this before?

  • CCE 507 stops forwarding traffic to internet

Our CE (which is our proxy server) constantly stops forwarding traffic to the internet. The engine does not freeze or lock up because I can telnet into it and reload and everything is fine then. This has starting happening in the last two weeks. The engine is integraded with Websense filtering. Could I be experiencing hardware issues? I did recently upgraded websense to the latest version and also upgraded the PIX 515 Firewall IOS to the latest. I am thinking maybe upgrade the IOS on the engine. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Apparently the version of Websense that I was running was not making the CE very happy. I upgraded to a new version and ever since the problem has not arise. But I am having one issue with the CE. There is one website that generates errors when going through the CE proxy server. Although when bypassing the proxy server(CE), there are no errors generated. It is only when going through the proxy that the error is generated. The error does not reflect a Websense blocking page. So it only leads me to believe that the problem is on the CE. I would like to upgrade the IOS on the CE to the latest software in an effort to resolve this. If I upgrade, should I be aware of any problems with the configuration not working after the upgrade. The device is a CE 507 with software version 2.51. Any history on this type of problem? Any help would be appreciated. I have pasted the exact error generated from the site. Thanks again.

  • Safari randomly stops opening pages

    Hi Everyone,
Since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari randomly stops opening pages. It works for a while, then if I put my computer to sleep, sometimes when I wake my computer, Safari will no longer opens pages. When this happens, all apps requiring internet are affected including Firefox and Chrome which no longer work, as well as mail and iMessage.
They only way to get it to work again is to reboot my computer - sometimes I need to do this several times.
I have deleted Safari preferences to no avail.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks
    TB

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Continuous Disconnections "Appear" To Have Stopped...

BACKGROUND (cutting a VERY long story "long")  [skip to the next section if you're bored to tears]:
    - With BT Broadband since early February. Had continuous disconnections since joining, which added to the dreaded DLM from BT resulted in ever-slow speeds (at some popint we wre under 0.1 Mbps)
    - Previously with Virgin Media BroadBand + BT line rental. We never had any issues of disconnections or slow speeds. Couldn't fault VM (except that they got riff of their BB customers to focus on Fibre services not available in our area).
    - The first-tier of Customer Services are all very polite people but, frankly, have been of no help at all. Countless line checks were made, mostly "concluding that the line was OK and the connection stable". Well, one only had to check the Event Logs, which would soon be out of memory within a day, showing disconnection after disconnection.
    - The second-tier could not help also and finally decided an engineer had to call at the property.
    - The engineeer failed to show up.
    - The engineer visit was rescheduled, the engineer did show up. He confirmed our internal installation is OK, put the onus on some
work needed "down a manhole in a road nearby" and that a different team had to take over.
    - As far as I am aware, this work had been seen to (although I initially had my doubts: BT phone services told me "everything (was) sorted now" whilst I was tearing out my hair with the same problems and speeds under 0.1 Mbps
    - I *think* that my profile was reset once or twice by now, our speeds would get about 6 Mbps, rapidly dropping after
    disconnections.
    - I have noticed BB disconnections when using the internet on my Pc but ALSO when the PC was off and there was no wired or wireless use whatsoever.
    - BT KEEPS CLOSING UP THE FAULTS I OPEN & RE-OPEN (HOW VERY CONVENIENT!) OUR FAULT HAS BEEN PRESENT FOR NEAR 3 MONTHS NOW, IS THAT TOO EMBARRASSING TO DISPLAY IN bt.com/fault?
    - Online complaint filed... Ignored by BT.
    - 3-page letter of complaint sent to BT... Got an awfully generic reply: "Hopefully you know by now what BT is doing to sort this problem" I DO ACTUALLY KNOW... THEY ARE DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  BT gave an email address to reply: I replied 7 days ago asking what's going on, now have re-sent the e-mail (2 days ago): Nothing. MAYBE THE SUPPLIED OMBUDSMAN CONTACT WILL NEED TO BE USED NEXT?
    - I keep being promised refunds of line rental, etc. These are yet to materialize as "I will get this when the fault is solved". This of course works on the assumption that my fault will EVER be solved. ALL I REALLY WANT IS: SORT THIS NEVERENDING FAULT.
    - Oh, and BT Direct Debit was increased to more than advised (yes, our experience was dreadful so far in ALL aspects) - We are dealing with this separately, DD has now been now reduced... I'm looking forward to the next quarterly bill to confirm I'm not being overcharged (I've honestly lost all trust in all things BT).
    - I am an engineer myself and the kindest assessment of the situation would be that BT Customer Services are applying ZERO LOGIC in trying to sort this problem.
    CURRENT SITUATION:
    - BT Customer Services appear to be avoiding us. They did not call us back to follow up the case and frankly, I am very busy these days and have little time to engage in another gruelling wait + futile conversation (typically near an hour in total) to get absolutely nowhere.
    - Stable connection for almost 7 days now.
    - Speed capped at 2 Mbps, actual speed is 1.4 to 1.5 Mbps (and has been so for at least 4-5 days).
    Onto the technical stuff........
    OUR CONNECTION:
    - Wired (ethernet) to desktop PC.
    - Hub4 Connected to test socket of NTE5, using supplied filter.
    - Only one phone connected, via the same filter at the main (test) socket.
    - At different times during troubleshooting (weeks ago), I took to, one by one, changing the filter, the ethernet cable and the phone cable supplied by BT. I also changed to different ethernet ports of the Hub, no joy... None of this made any difference so all original cables and filter are again in place.
    - The engineer neglected to check the HUb, convinced it was a line problem. Over a month ago, I temporarily replaced the Hub with an old Netgear supplied by Virgin. At that time this made no difference but then the disconnection rate was appalling and wonder if there was an actual fault in the line now and now this stabilized? Regardless, I've been thinking whether my old Netgear would perform better but I have been patient and trying to build up more days of stable connection... BUT 6 days+ of solid connection and I'm still at 1.4 Mbps????
    - There are NO other phones or telephone extensions at the property.
    - We occasionally use our mobile phones via wireless. Wireless connection is fine (when main connection is present, of course)

    Questions/Comments:
    - I thought it took 3 to 5 days of solid connection for broadband speed to be bumped up? How long should I now wait???
    - Does my IP profile need to be reset? (Note: I'm dreading that this will again result in 1-2 days of 6Mbps, followed by disconnections, followed by unusable sepeeds again, as this pattern a few times now).
    - Last DSL noise margin stats : "7.00 dB upstream, 1.20 dB downstream"... Any comments on this? Isn't 6 dB considered normal, and the lower this figure the better?
    - Can anyone help here before we abandon all hope, stop paying our bill and complain to Trade Standards/Ombudsman/etc??

    @ imjolly: Many thanks.
I set the alarm 5 minutes early in order to restart the Hub this morning. Do I believe in coincidences? Sometimes... After 7 days of solid connection, several restarts occurred while my PC was off (Hub's always on) in the early hours of this morning.
As such, I was correct in my cautiousness when naming the thread "Disconnections APPEAR To Have Stopped... " and I am now able to offer new stats without any manual intervention:

  • AppleTV + iPhone randomly stops playing music.

My dad bought a appletv a few days ago and i set it up in his living room, about 40 feet from the wireless router, and it has 4 bars in the wireless settings menu. Everything is working fine, except when playing music to the appletv over airplay, it will randomly stop for 1 second, and automatically resume. Sometimes it will stop, and even disconnect him from the appletv completely, and he will have to go in and start streaming to it again.
Now, i have an iPhone too, and mine works fine. No pausing or disconnecting at all. I have the latest iOS, and my dad had i think 4.3 or something. So I updated him, thinking that would fix the problem, and at first it seemed it had, but after 5 or so songs, it was still randomly pausing for 1 second, then it would start right back up again.
This was happening in both Pandora and local music on the iPhone.
And again, mine works fine 4G verizon, it was his iPhone 4G AT&T that was having the problem.
    Any ideas?

I had this issue when using music over iCloud / iTunes Match.  I downloaded the songs to the iPhone and problem solved

  • Music and videos start playing fine but randomly stop and the volume bar disappears

I have an iPhone 4S and run 6.1.3.  I start to play music or videos (youtube, ESPN, Netflix, any) and they start to play fine but then randomly stop.  The volume bar disappears as well.  But then it reappears and I can play it again.  When I do so it plays about 30 seconds, sometimes less, and pauses again.  I have to repeat the process.  Any idea how to fix or what might be causing the problem?

    Try a reset:
    - hold both the home button and sleep/wake button down at the same time
    - the iPhone will turn off(keep holding) but as soon as you see the apple logo appear release both buttons
Also make sure none of the LCI have been set off especially the one in the charging dock of the iPhone. Read the article below for help in checking this:

  • Possible to Route Traffic Based on AVC?

Is it possible to route traffic, based on the Application Visibility Control functions that specific Cisco routers are capable of?  Here's my issue:  I have two ISP's.  One is at about 120% utilization.  The other isn't doing anything.  I can specify ip routes based on IP addresses.  For instance, I can ip route 173.252.110.27 255.255.255.255 10.x.x.x to point to our ISP2 firewall, which is our non-utilized provider, for Facebook traffic.  The problem is that sites like this have massive public subnets, so I won't be able to capture all of the traffic destined to Facebook.  Is there a way to route traffic based on application?  I know that Palo Alto firewalls have a way to do Policy Based Forwarding, based on application.  I was wondering if the same was possible with AVC.  Thanks for any help.

    Hello.
Yes, it's possible and, actually, you have 2 ways.
    1. use manual load-balanace between links.
    2. use PfR to load-balance traffic automatically.
PS: you also will need NAT with route-map.

  • My iPhone just randomly stopped working

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone has been having this problem.
What happened was, when i was listening to music on my iStation at home the music randomly stopped, i thought i maybe the iStation stopped working but it turned out that my iPhone had stopped working. I tried to turn the iPhone back on but it didn't work.
After freaking out for about twenty minutes the screen turned on. It was the screen that appears the first time the iPhone is turned on saying to connect it to iTunes. I did this and restored it and it's working now but i lost many new contacts and many important calender dates.
Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and if i should be worried that it will do it again.
    Thanks

I suggest subscribing to mobile me because when you enter a new contact or calendar event it automatically goes to the mobile me server and when you do have to restore your phone those contacts come back as soon as you enter your mobile me information. That was great when I upgraded to the IP4 because until I got home I had all my contacts on my phone without syncing to my computer.

  • Audacity randomly stops recording after a few seconds

I've been trying to record a few things with audacity, which has generally worked pretty well for me in the past.
However, whenever I try to record a second track, it only records for a second or so after I hit the record button, and then randomly stops, although the cursor keeps on moving forwards and the meter keeps showing the input.
I haven't been able to find any reason why it would be doing this, and it is EXTREMELY fustrating. It has also done this when I tried to record for the first time in a new project, but I switched a few settings on and off again and it worked for some reason. Can anyone offer any help?

Is this still a problem for anyone?  I came here looking for help and found more questions, so I started randomly playing with the input settings.  I have an Ensoniq (es1371).  Choosing OSS/DSP gave me an error trying to read the device; choosing hw0:0 or 0:1 had it stop recording at just over 0.6 seconds; turning software playthrough on or off had no effect.  What finally worked was "ALSA:Default" and use alsamixer to control the recording source.
At the risk of being branded a linux hater, I should mention that the same hardware under Windows "just works" without any changes needed in the input settings on my part.  I fired up Windows 7 in a vmware window - so not only did the Windows environment work correctly out of the box, that was with the additional layer of alsa -> vmware -> windows.

  • Youtube randomly stops loading

I recently got a new modem, and ever since then I've noticed YouTube videos will randomly stop loading (particularly longer ones, although I have had short videos stop loading too). Switching to HTML5 video player seems to let me play videos without having any loading issues.
    - I've tried resetting my router.
    - Reinstalling Adobe Flash Player 14.0.0.125
    - Clearing my recent history
    - Flushing my dns
I'm not really sure what else to do, I'm assuming it has something to do with my new modem, but I have no idea how to fix this.
Any help would be much appreciated, I'll be using HTML5 until I know how to fix this.

Still really hoping someone would be able to help me, or if someone can point me somewhere that can help.

  • Why won't that apps that weren't built into my iPod randomly stop working?

    Try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears.

  • Stop suggesting router replacement

    Hi,
After spending some time viewing the forum entries for iPad WiFi issues, it has become very very apparent that there is:
    A. Software inconsistencies causing interruption of WiFi signal/settings.
    B. Hardware inconsistencies with the internal antenna(s).
    C. Both
I'm sure Apple is hard at work to make their customers happy.
In the meantime, I have seen a large number of faux-tech heads making suggestions like "Your router is out of date, get an Airport Extreme/Express..."
You need to understand that everyone has a different level of tech experience. There are many people out there who are at the mercy of their limited technology knowledge, and will blindly follow suggestions from users who appear to know what they're talking about.
Apple brand routers/airports are extremely high priced. Please stop suggesting that users go out and buy an over priced piece of hardware, based on your uninformed opinion of the problem.
Apple devices like iPhones, Macbooks, etc all function just fine on nearly any network hardware. Distrubution of an IP address/authentication on a network is not an advanced feature, and does not require cutting edge hardware.
For the sake of all end users, and their wallets, please stop suggesting router replacements.
Edited* iPad's do not have Antennae, as far as I know. That's usually insects.

Actually the OP didn’t make any suggestions about staying with out of date router gear at all. Nor did he comment on the style of lamps in his residence.
Router suggestions are fine and they may offer workarounds for some users who have both the knowledge and access to the network gear they use. However they do not offer a general solution.
Based on what I read here, there seem at least two different, but likely related, iPad WiFi issues:
    1. The ability to detect nearby wireless networks for connection
    2. The ability to achieve a reliable connection with a wireless network selected.
Issue 1 seems a weakness issue of the basic capabilities of the iPad. If an iPad cant see networks, the ability to connect with them seems poor.
If I walk to my back yard with both the iPad and a laptop, their ‘sight’ is very different. My laptop sees 9 separate nearby networks, 2 of which are open and the rest secure. The iPad only sees 1, the one in my home. Somehow that seems pretty basic in compatibility.

  • 10/100 ports stop forwarding on Cat.4506 SupII Cat7.6.7

On one location of our campus various 10/100 ports stop forwarding traffic after some time (port stays in notconnected state, sometimes with linkled on, sometimes off).
This happens on various ports of both Cat.4506 systems on both line-card types:
    WS-X4232-GB-RJ
    WS-X4148-RJ
We already replaced linecards, without succes.
Does anyone know what's wrong ?

    Peter,
You would probably have a better chance of getting a solution to this issue by posting on the LAN switching forum.
    Hope this helps,
