Hi all,
We are planning to restructure the whole PDF generation process in our application.. We use ASCII files to provide the data feed..Is it possible to create PDF files out of them with a pre defined Template and then to make that PDF editable with some form fields.. ??Is PDF generator capable of handling this or should we be looking for some other livecycle product..?? Kindly help us in this regard..

The Process goes like this:
ASCII file for data feed ----> template file -----> PDF file with form fields generated.. ---> Reader extention rights given to the Form fields for the end users to save the forms using Adobe reader..

I have had exactly the same problem now with two mini iPads. Everything was tried; 1) restarting; 2) restoring factory settings etc. NONE worked. Eventually Apple agreed to replace it. I have had the replacement now for two to three months and exactly the same thing is happening again. So off to Apple tomorrow to get another replacement.
I am quite a heavy user of the iPad so wonder if this is something to do with the fault.
It is so frustrating as sometimes reset works, and then after 10/20/30/40 minutes (you pick) it goes unstable again.

i need to turn scanned documents into text so i dont have to type it all. But I am unsure how to do that, HELP! in need of SPECIFIC directions please, and thank you :]

With the hardware and software up and running and understood you have PDF files with the picture of the text.
Use Acrobat to OCR the PDF pages of pictures of text.
The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) will provide an output of renderable text for the characters OCR can recognize.
Acrobat's OCR "Searchable Image" and "Searchable Image (Exact)" provide an output whose glyphs (what we "see" as a character) have no fill and no outline.
So -- "hidden" or "invisible" -- BUT there's proper font encoding tables!.
Consequently, you've got something that can be exported to TXT, RTF, DOC or DOCX.
That exported content is cleaned up and made "smooth" using MS Word.
Then output fresh PDF and keep the Word files in a safe place and have a backup.
Do future edits in the Word files.

I am having the same problem I think. With mobileme you simply copy documents to the idisk folder and then synch. I cannot seem to sink that folder anymore. Any idea as to how I can simply copy folders to icloud and then access the MS Word and PDF file

Your iDisk is still accessible after moving to iCloud in exactly the same way as before. Nothing is deleted until June 30th 2012.

No, you couldn't. Firstly, nothing was deleted from your iDisk. Secondly, any files stored on your iDisk should never be your only copy. Even if your iDisk spontaneously combusted, you should keep local backups elsewhere.

Yes. Apple doesn't provide such a service anymore, nor are you paying them for it.
Apple has made no effort to suggest remedies for the problem it has given iDisk users
They've provided instructions on how to download your files from your iDisk. What you do with them after that is your choice.

We are implementing an web application that will collection data on a form and the would like to populate a fillable PDF form. I saw the sample code using Acrobat IAC to open a form and then populate the form fields. However, with that example, I am not able to save the pdf file. Can someone direct me how to make that happened?

In that case, I'm afraid that the Acrobat SDK is a non-starter,
because Acrobat isn't for server use. You might like to check out
Adobe's extensive range of LiveCycle server products.

How do I begin with a template and then import a Word document?

I know I can open a word document in pages (I do this all the time). But I have a specific template and I want the word document I open to take up the designed elements of the template. How do I do that?

You can import the styles from another document:
+Menu > Format > Import Styles…+
but it will come down to what you need to retain from what.
You can not import layout or elements, so you will have to work out which holds most of what you want and import the styles from one and apply that or copy and paste into the document that contains most of the work.
Don't forget you can use the thumbnails to copy across whole pages/sections.
This is where Pages extremely weak and poorly thought through layout methods fall down. You will not be able to apply the master pages and master page layouts, to existing work, that you can in other DTP software.

I have been using Word for my writing and I receive most of my emails with Word attachments. I have been using Apple products for years, always touting their reliability and customer service. I am not a techie, I just want to be able to do what I do on the computer and Apple always fulfilled my needs. Now I am told because of some operating system gobbledygook, I have to go out and purchase new software to use Word. This is despicable. I see no particular benefit to using Lion, but I do see a lot of detriments. Apple now seems to have turned into Microsoft, making software obsolete so they can make more money and to **** with the customer. You can be sure that my next computer will be a PC. I have completely lost confidence in Apple.

I seem to never tire of saying this. It was for Apple when they first announced 10.7 to disclose this. Yes, it was widely reported -- or rather, rumored -- but not by Apple. And many people who have gotten caught by this assumed that Apple itself would have told them beforehand about the loss of this very important feature which they had come to rely on. As far as I know, not even in fine print, does this appear anywhere on the Lion announcement or any of its links.
I am not saying Apple had to continue Rosetta in Lion, or forever, just that if it was going to be dropped, it should have been made known.
As relative "insiders" we should not forget that many people don't have the time, habit or interest to do this kind of research. I think it is a breach of trust that Apple has never directly made this announcement or given people the opportunity to decide beforehand if giving up their PPC apps for a new OS is a worthwhile tradeoff.

Currently, Adobe Reader for Android does not provide an option to disable auto-save.
In the Reader home screen (where your files are displayed), you can make a copy of the original PDF document, open the copy (instead of opening the original document), make changes to the copy. Once you email the copy, you can delete it.
For more information, please see Help > How To... > Copy, edit, delete, manage.
Although it is not the most convenient way to accomplish the task, that's the only feasible workaround that is available in Adobe Reader for Android right now.

1) Launch Adobe Reader X
2) Click on "Edit" on Meu Bar and click on "Preferences"
3) Go to the option "Internet" from left hand list
4) Make sure "Display PDF in Browser is checked"
5) Save the changes and close Reader X

When you say field, do you mean specifically a form field, such as a text field? Or is the information regular text on the page?

Why does'nt a pdf file sent to me open automatically. I have to open adobe software first and then open the file.

All files have their "native" application. Without the application the file cannot be created.
Once created the file must have the native application to be "opened".
For the application to do that first to open is the software (application).
