ASDM Launcher hangs

ASA 5510, ASA 8.0(4), ASDM 6.1(3), ASDM Launcher 1.5(30) on Windows XP SP3.  Up until a week ago this worked, this has been the management PC since I installed the ASA.  Now, as of the last several days (I don't look at it every day) I run the Launcher, put in credentials, it says Loading Cached software, it says software update completed, then it hourglasses, until I gave it and close it.  I've udpated its Java, its Windows updates are current; even a few recent security updates that may have to do with this.  How do I go about fixing?

Thanks, I  haven't dug into java stuff before.  I enabled logging and tracing, and picked Show Console, in Control panel Java Advanced.  I don't see the console anywhere (I saw it pop up on a different machine when i tried).  In the log folder all I get so far is a jcp.trace file, looks like startup info.  I t has:

  • ASDM Launcher doesn't work on Win7 64 bit after reinstalling Win7

    Reinstalled Win7 64bit and have been unable to get the ASDM launcher to work.  I can connect to multiple ASAs via HTTPS.  If I install the ASDM from v6.3.4 or 6.4.5, the launcher for that specific device works fine using:
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe -localfile -J-Djnlp.application.href=https://<ipaddress>/admin/public/asdm.jnlp "C:\Users\rwrussell\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\30\2f5259de-112bec59"
    However, the ASDM launcher which prompts you for the IP address of the node you want to connect to doesn't work.  It pops up and prompts you for the address, username and password but then just hangs at "contacting the device, please wait.  Sniffing the workstation's Ethernet shows that no packets are generated destined for the IP address of the ASA at all.  The ASDM launcher is using the following: 
    Target:  C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaw.exe -Xms64m -Xmx512m -Dsun.swing.enableImprovedDragGesture=true -classpath lzma.jar;jploader.jar;asdm-launcher.jar;retroweaver-rt-2.0.jar com.cisco.launcher.Launcher

    The only troubles I see posted on the web are with regards to the launcher installing the target as SYSTEM32 instead of SysWOW64, but this is OK here.  Java version is v7 update 9. 

    Well, I gave up and uninstalled Java 7 and the ASDM.  After installing Java 6 update 27 and then reinstalling ASDM, it works fine again.  I installed Java 7 again while leaving 6/27 installed and had the same issues.  Uninstalled 7 again and everything works fine.
    I really wish Cisco would write Java code that is forward and backward compatible.  It seems we have this issue every few Java updates at which time Cisco will release something like ASDM v61557 or the like if they admit there is an issue at all.  Performing the correct calls instead of taking proprietary shortcuts eliminates this problem with incompatible code between releases.

  • ASDM slow / hang with IPS

    I recently installed an AIP-SSM into my ASA5510.  This enabled the IPS functions in ASDM 6.2.5, but has caused some issues.  I am running ASDM on OSX 10.6.3.  Now ASDM will hang when closing the application.  It will also hang instantly when attempting to view any signatures.  The only way out is to "force quit" or a hard kill of ASDM.  Has anyone else experienced such issues? Suggestions?

    It's only ASDM-IDM on the MAC that is having issues.
    More specifically, the issues only happen when running IDM within ASDM on MAC.  On the MAC if I run IDM by itself as suggested via https://sensor-url then it works fine.  Looks like an ASDM issue then, no?

    Still with a CCO you should be able to download the VPN client, The ASDM launcher can be installed buy navigating to the ASA webpage and clicking install.

  • ASDM Launcher starts in a small window

    When I launch the ASDM, whether in JAVA or as an MSI installation, the window starts "too small".  I can't see anything but the minimize and close button.  (see the attached screenshot)
    I am running Java v1.4.2_03.  I tried the most current release of Java and it had same results, so I uninstalled it and am back on 1.4.2_03.

    It seems to be  ajava compatibility issue, try installing the 32-bit java version on your 64-bit machine, and then try he asdm. One more thing, on the 64-bit, open up a browser and type the url "https:// (you should be able to access the asdm.

  • Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 launch hangs while Initializing menus

    Can anyone please help me? Everything was fine yesterday, then today CS3 blew up. When I click to launch Photoshop CS3 Extended the application panel displays and starts listing what it's loading. Every time it reaches "Initializing menus..." the app stops responding.
    I've already performed a CS3 uninstall and then reinstall and then installed the patches, but the problem persists.
    Also, my Illustrator CS3 files will not longer open. The application becomes unresponsive. Illustrator will launch but will not open files. Problem was the same before I did the uninstall and reinstall of CS3. Problem still persists.
    This morning I had to repair my HD with Apple's Disk Utility. These problems with Photoshop and Illustrator were occurring before I repaired the disk--thought that might cure the problem.
    I'm using a PowerMac G5 dual 2 Ghz processor
    Mac OS X 10.5.2
    6 GB of RAM
    Any ideas on solutions?

    Hi - just had the same problem and found it was related to my printer...
    1. Run CS3 until it hangs (during Initializing Menus stage).
    2. Run Activity Monitor, find the CS3 process, and click the Sample Process button. In the call stack I noticed there were printer-related calls.
    3. Ran System Preferences and selected Print/Fax - it also hung.
    I had a networked printer configured.
    Then - to fix...
    1. Killed off everything.
    2. Disabled Airport.
    3. Ran System Preferences, selected Print/Fax, deleted my printer.
    4. Re-enabled Airport.
    5. Ran CS3 - worked straight away.
    Even if you don't have a printer problem the Activity Monitor step may help find out what CS3 is up to when it hangs.

    FF hangs when launched and when new tab is opened , same is the case when launched in safe mode ,I have reinstalled the browser but the issue persisits.
    EDIT: Found a folder on my desktop "old firefox data"

    Previous versions of Firefox used to cause web pages to hang, freezing everything. Firefox 15.0.1 has gone one step further /
    It hangs immediately, as soon as the welcome message ( and the picture showing a kind of crop circle) appears.
    This means having to Force quit... I have done just that ( and relaunched ) three times, without success. I've also trashed FF and reinstalled it three times. No joy.
    There may be a "fix" of some sort, but it shouldn't be necessary : Safari, Chrome, Opera, Camino, and SeaMonkey work fine "straight out of the box". So why not Firefox?
    Besides, a "fix" would be impossible since I'd have to launch FF to apply it, and as I said, it hangs/freezes immediately.
    I'm using a Mac, system 10.6.8.

  • CSCum57517 - ASDM launcher is not working with Java 7u51 - 1

    I am running 1.7.0_51_b13 with ADSM 7.1.5(100) and I still have the issue.   Bug stiill exists in the hotfix.

    I was able to solve the issue by enrolling and authenticating the ASA with an internal CA, configuring internal DNS to point to the common name used in the cert, and using the hostname in ASDM (similar to harold's solution but using internal issued cert rather than external cert).

  • Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 - Launch hangs on Registration Screen, All menu items grayed out

    I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1.
    When launching, the window labeled "Adobe Design Suite Premium CS3" opens - it's only filled with white, and no text or graphics (I think it's usually the window asking me if I want to register, which always comes up when I launch the program (rather annoying in itself).  However, now it seems that the launch gets "hung" on this window, as, even the the program starts, all the menus are grayed out, and I can't open any files or do anything.  Also, the window mentioned above only has the yellow "minimize" button available in the top left corner, so I can't close it or otherwise get rid of it.  Since even the Quit function is grayed out, I have to quit the program with a force quit.  Also, this same thing happens in my other CS3 programs (In Design) as well.
    I tried trashing the photoshop plist file (com.adobe.photoshop.plist) and also the com.adobe.118.registration file, which had no effect.
    Any advice on how I can fix this?

  • Adobe Debug Launcher hangs when I try to run any Air Application on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

  • Doesn't launch - hangs

    I have installed this twice and rebooted. No change. When I click to launch media player, the little orange box displays and says "reading preferences...." and never goes away. I click the media player to launch it again and the tool opens up. But nothing works when I click it.
    This is REALLY bad. Other companies have great easy-to-set-up media players - MS and Real and Quicktime. Adobe products are all way to complicated and buggy.
    I have a new laptop with Windows XP and tons of space.

  • Mail takes too long to launch, hangs computer

    For some reason, MAIL is the only app causing this problem. When I launch it, my computer freezes for about 20 seconds while Mail revs up, and once it's open everything's OK. But the extreme launch time is a problem.
    I don't want to delete the com.apple.mail preference file because it resets everything in the mailbox & eliminates my folders.
    Has anyone had a similar problem, and is there a fix?

    Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:

    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations, and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
    Finally, try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
    1. Holding the Shift key down until the main window appears. This tells Mail to not select any mailboxes or load any messages upon start up.
    2. With no Internet connection.

  • Organizer hangs on launch

    Just installed PSE10 on Win7 Pro 64-bit.  I can launch Organizer one time, and then subsequent launches hang mid-launch.  It appears that the previous session didn't close as Organizer still shows up in Task Manager.  If I end task, I can then launch Organizer one time before it starts to hang again.  I've turned off all the auto-analyze features and also deleted my preferences (psa and status files), but problem persists.  I'm using Trend Micro Security Agent (Online)...could this be causing the problem?

    I have ASA 8.0(2) and never run ASDM before. I just download ASDM launcher v1.3(30) but I was never able to connect to my ASA via ASDM. Can someone help?

    You need to download Jave 2 SE v1.4.2.... If you have the latest version of Java it won't work.
