Asha 311 vs 308/3099 - why 308/309 has brightness ...

Why on earth does the 311 lagged down behind by this software update? I am surprised tonight to see an update on the 308 and 309 which was rolled down last march, it says that it has MANUAL brightness control on that update.
I was like, "**bleep**?!?! The FLAGSHIP of the asha family,doesn't even recieved an update regarding its brightness control?!?!?!?!"

All the magic lies in the inclusion of Light Sensor in the 311. Lol it doesn't work the way it should (it was only once when it worked fine. I calibrated it and it was doing fine), but its here to make the software lack the brightness feature. Maybe Nokia folks never tested if it works fine or not.
I have big hopes for the next update. But at the same time I'm sure that it won't bring any big changes. But yeah maybe a brightness adjustor. But then again, when will that update come? :/

Skype has not published a native version of its messaging application for Nokia Series 40 devices. Therefore, it is not possible as of this moment.

hey guys give so many kudus to satyam's and my post becaz i am also want so many improvements in asha 311,
we can't use this phone in night due to its high brightness,
there is no dictionary function as nokia has give it to nokia asha 308,
there is no copy past option ,
this mobile is not support to applications which are support to a smartphone such like viber, shazam,etc
i am a student not only me there are so many users of s40 are students there for we want applications
which are useful and not useless there so many application in s40 which are useless,
we want s40 should support such applictions which supports to a smartphone not a simple phone ,
if in next update this things are not improved i will sell my asha 311 and i will brought an android phone ,
if nokia will not improud this things its mean nokia is a fake marketer ,

There is no in built GPS chip, so reliant solely upon network triangulation for location which may mean several km out.

Dear Nokia,I recently bought a nokia asha 311, I am in the Philippines. I though it was a good phone afterall, but everything went wrong. It' does not support YouTube nor some important apps like viber. I really need to swap this phone to galaxy or A cm flare, you disappointed me Nokia,my family members all use Nokia for decades,please nokia, update the. I don't want to be suffering my regret. Please nokia...

That's not the thing. What is GSM going to do why YouTube playback? Sounds like your connection is very slow, otherwise YouTube works perfectly. Have you tried asking Globe?

Asha 311 radio application does not close.

The radio application in my asha 311 does not close. I tried using the back button first, but when I swiped the screen the radio showed up so I used the end call button and then it showed "Radio Off". But then again when I swiped to check whether the radio has closed, the radio came up once again. I tried switching off the mobile and turning it on. That didn't help either. Tried connecting, disconnecting the headsets and i still have the radio open. I am unable to close it. Any suggestions?
Its only a week since I bought the Nokia Asha 311 and this is the first ever problem that I am facing.

Hey, its nothing wrong. You've added shortcut to radio on the swipe screen. That's why it shows you the radio screen
change the shortcut to something else (dialler) and that's it

About asha 311 update

New update availabe for asha 501, 502, 503. But what's the problem to nokia that they can not make a update for asha 311. There was some problem. So an update is need for asha 311 user. When nokia publish an update for asha 311 ?

As stated earlier, please try to explain and state what you have understood already. That makes it easier to answer you, because one knows which parts are missing and/or not understood yet! Now I have to give you an assumption of explanation, the very big picture which is a long story:
Nokia created several variants of each firmware version, for example code 059F7M7 for version 07.36. As you see, the variants are identified by the product code, in this example code 059F7M7. Your phone was targeted for a different market, therefore the label on your Nokia 311 (and its initial product code) was 059G914. Correct?
Now we have issue number one: Each firmware variant comes with a limited set of languages. I do not know why Nokia does this, but they do. Therefore, some firmware variants come with Chinese, some with Bangla, some with Thai, some with German, ‥. Consequently, here in Germany my product code is 059F730. Although I have version 07.36, I do not have Thai, although the same version is sold in Thailand—the difference is the product code.
That is the reason for not having Bangla on your phone right now: You flashed to a product code which does not have Bangla included.
The solution would be to go for the product code you had before. Now we have issue number two: The product code with Bangla did not get version 07.37. Again, I do not know why Nokia does this. Anyway, it is common practice at Nokia that some minor updates are not rolled-out globally. Still, the ‘engineers’ increase the version number.
That is the reason for not having Bangla on your phone right now: You flashed to a product code for France which does not have Bangla at all.
The solution would be to downgrade the version. Now we have issue number three: Nokia Care Tools, those which are public and available at the lower level Nokia Care Centre do not allow to downgrade firmware files. Again, I do not know why Nokia does not allow this. Anyway, it is like it is, officially nobody is able to downgrade.
Consequently, you are stuck at 07.37. Consequently, you are stuck at a product code without Bangla. The easiest solution is to sell that Nokia 311 and go for a Nokia 311 with firmware 03.81, 03.90, or 05.92. With those firmware, you can can change the product code and go for a firmware which has Bangla and version 05.92. With that version, you still have all the apps you desired so much—except the Nokia Maps app, at least you stated that.
I am an end-uer like you. I do not know all firmware variants and what is included in each. Perhaps you find a combination of Bangla and with Nokia Maps. Or you go for your old strategy and use that firmware version, to extract all these Java apps. Then you go for 07.36 and re-install them. Anyway, you cannot go for 07.37 because you are stuck without Bangla then. Therefore, it might be much easier to go for a Windows Phone. There you have Nokia Maps = HERE Maps and you are able to install all languages dynamically withouth messing around with product codes, without having to care about versions.
Now you got the long story. For the next time, please try to explain and state what you have understood already. That makes it easier to answer you, because one knows which parts are missing and/or not understood yet. In this case, you could have saved you reading time if you had done that.

5.92 is currently the latest SW version for Asha 311 (and it should be available to most customers). There will be eventually further SW releases for the device, and when those are available, I will be posting about them here. Can't comment anything more specific at this time.
The update availability topic is a tricky one. There can be hundreds of SW variants per product usually and creating/testing/approving/publishing those requires many steps. That is the main reason why you may see some of the users getting the update sooner than others - operator variants are often the most tricky ones. We are looking into improving the process as we can.

My name is umesh and i have brought a nokia asha 311 phone But i have recently noticed that my previously sent message is being deleted automatically from all my conversations (Used group messaging to send a sms) that Particular message is deleted from all my conversations and
I got and surprsingly low battery back up dun know why is that
Please tell me Is this normal in asha 311 that deleting the sent messages automatically

Hey Support my Nokia c5 phone messages got deleted automatically.. its happening for the second time since i bought it.. many of my imp messages, drafts and saved msgs got deleted... showing all as empty.. is there any solution to recover all those..??? or is this a permanent problem of nokia c5..?? or whether it is designed to delete all messages after such a number of stored messages..?? pls help..

Asha 311 Video Player Problem.. Please Help !

hello everyone
asha 311 video player plays most of the formats but cannot play's next video when pressing Next (next to play/pause)
the repeat, shuffle fuction is useless, why this 2 function is there if its going to play one video and wont play next one !? how its gonna shuffle the same file !
cant create playlist for videos and this is really annoying! what nokia thinking before lauching this type of software ! even nokia 112 and others have great video/music player features
i am really annoyed by this.. i added some kids rymes, poems videos in mSD card and into asha 311 and i gave it to my 3 year old neice..
i started the first file and later 30 min when i came back, she watching the same first video again and again ! its just 2 min video, she unable to watch next videos ! have to go back to main, select video, search that file and play... again and again for different videos ! this is really nonsense from nokia !
so please help me to fix this issue or please give me the link of other video player software for asha 311, i googled and found some stupid softwares..

Limited features on asha 311

samsung champ has more features than nokia asha 311.lol i.e champ has inbuild dictionary but asha 311 don't have,,.equaliser option is very poor even i can't get any changes in sound when we change the equaliser option(i.e jazz,pop etc)..lol ,,,,,brightness control,,,and many more .if i write all the lack of features, that will become a essay lolll..
And nokia says that this is a Smartphone lol....I think nokia don't know that which is called smartphone.....even i can't tell that it is a features ph bcz lot of basic features is missing which seen in normal features phone... I recomandaded it is a FLOP FEATURES phone

Will the asha 311 recieve any more SW updates?

Being in the USA, i imported my nokia 311 because I wanted the good 3.5/4G and needed RSAP for our Volkswagen... thus making this really my only option...
however, I noticed that its last SW update 7.36 was in July of last year and am worried that i may have made a mistake?
So far i like this phone but i think a decent SW update could make me fall in love... or are my dreams too good to be true?

Iam user of asha 311 too. The answer is just a dream. Why ? Cause, Nokia focus for new model of Asha 5xx (Asha platform) , X, and Lumia especially .

Video Asha 311

What about an update for asha 311 which enable person to watch in portrait or in landscape, autohide the play/pause and stop in the lower part of the phone (vary from portrait and landscape) and volume level
I don't know why but when i'm palying a video I can't change the volume the way I want it to.

I'd try to disable those Mail application if it enhances some of the battery life. I must say though, the charging in 311 is super quick too. It reaches full charge from Empty in around 45 minutes or less.
I'm still wondering about that BL-4U battery. It has always come with 1000 mAh of power. I don't know how it gets more power with the same model number. Even a X1 has 1320 mAh battery. So, being 311 a 3G based handset it must have got around 1500 mAh. But, that's Nokia's choice.

so unfair that only symbian s60 smartphones can have fruit ninja game.
Why not add instagram app (or even a client app) for asha 311?

I think it could've worked well but its just the lack of developer interest being there are not many java touch phones out here. Better go with symbian or Windows Phone

Conference call on Asha 311

Hello All,
I am not able to make conference call from my Asha 311,whenever i try to use conference call option it says "Request Rejected".I am wondering if it is a Handset issue or Network (I am on AIrtel postpaid network,India).
Please tell me if you people are able to make conference calls from Asha 311.

Well.. I don't think of why the operator won't allow you to make a conference call. Most of them (prepaid) allow you to make conference calls.
But just as your phone says "request rejected", that means your network (Airtel Postpaid) didn't allow it to register the new call and it was rejected. Try contacting airtel for further details as to why they don't allow conferencing. Maybe you need to opt for a different plan which allows conferencing.
@satya: Mate Vodafone also allows that. I've myself used it. So no doubts
