Asha 501: A2dp works on asha platform?

Hi,
I just want to know whether we can expect a2dp(play songs via bluetooth device) in the asha platform. Is it the new asha platform not supporting it?
Or else Nokia is trying to push its users to the LUMIA version of mobile. Even the basic phones are supporting this feature now a days.

I can only guess because that bug could be anything (even the Bluetooth name of your phone could be a problem, something in the profile records, it could be a tiny bit).

Version should not matter either, that is the design of Bluetooth. Furthermore, there are a lot of A2DP 1.0 devices out there, I bet they work with your Volvo.

Well, I guess it is the same, at least my Nokia Asha 503 behaves very much the same as my Nokia Asha 501. Or stated differently: I have not found a difference, yet. Why do you not go for a Lumia?

Asha 501 - Can't set individual contact ring tone ...

I cannot see any profiles in my asha 501. I need to manually adjust every time the settings, I can only see the silent option beside the mobile data pack.
Also, can't set indiviual contact ringtone, not sure if other phones in asha series support this

I think you don't check the settings.
The option to set individual ringtone is possible in asha 501. Its an asha but can do MORE.
Go to a contact open it,swipe from down tap on edit and now again swipe from down and tap on ADD DETAILS and there u find a RINGTONE option select on that and choose your favourite one.

Asha 501 and a2dp

hi there
i recently bought an asha 501 and didn't look too good at the bluetooth specs beforehand. this prooved as a big fault! i saw that it's bluetooth 3.0 so i thought that it has to support a2dp. but i had to learn that i doesn't. why?! even my sony ericsson p990 does supported this and this was like 6 or 7 years ago!
folks from nokia out there pls pls make a software update supporting this! beside that (and some other severe gaps in the software. e. g. no google calendar sync, no contacts sync, no whatsapp) i like this phone very very much! it's simple, fast, small, very user-friendly, fastlane is awsome, it has long battery life, the screen-keyboard is awsome too (much better than the one from android by the way!).
so can i count on a firmware update any time soon?
any answer is appreciated!

Email is not working in my Nokia Asha 501

I have a nokia asha 501 and there is mail. But we cant read the mail. What is the use of giving us an app which not even useful.

Twitter app not working in asha 501

My twitter app is not working in my asha 501 every time i try to sign in it says username or password is incorrect.please help me!!!

When did this issue start to happen? Are you using the inbuilt Twitter app, or a downloaded one? Are you able to log into your Twitter account using the mobile browser or a PC?
Try to clear the phone's browsing history by going to Browser > slide the toggle screen up > More > Settings > Clear data. Try also to restart your phone. After that, log into your Twitter account and see if it'll be accepted by the device. Note that account usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.
If it's a downloaded Twitter app, try also to remove and reinstall it from the Store.
Let us know the outcome.

Please please help: asha 501 bluetooth not working...

i am trying desperately to connect my asha 501 with my new car (volvo) in order to play music using my asha phone via bluetooth (--> as media player) but i always get the error "Connection failed" when i try to connect it to my car stereo system.
can anyone please tell me what i can do? any help from nokia????????

my company uses a self-signed certificate authority (CA) for ActiveSync and HTTPs connections (and the Nokia 501 does not allow my to add this authority to the known ones)
The Nokia 501 is based on a new operating system called new Asha software platform. I guess, this is the reason. IMAP, POP, and SMTP work for me.

Native Indian language support for Asha 501

Can you please let me know the list of native Indian languages supported in Nokia Asha 501? Also, can I store the phone contacts in a native language? I'm more interested in knowing the list of mobiles from Nokia that support the Indian language Telugu.

Here, Telugu works for both the menu, for contacts, and for keyboard.
The Nokia 501 is based on a new operating system, called new Asha software platform. Previous platforms were Nokia Series 40 and Symbian/S60.
Nokia Series 40 supports Telugu as well, however, you need a firmware variant (certain product code) which includes this language. Therefore it does not make sense to post models. You need the correct product code in your device. Anyway, here is a list of phones with Series 40 and Wi-Fi …
With Symbian/S60, I have not seen any product code for Telugu.
With a Windows Phone like the Nokia Lumia 510 you would be off much better, because there, you can add languages easily via the phone menu (if you have Internet access). However, Telugu is neither supported in the menu nor as keyboard. (or I am too stupid to find it).

Asha 501 Music player without equalisers

Hi,
My nokia asha 501 music player doesn't have equalisers, can we expect the next future release of the asha software..
Also, when I plugin the earphone and listen any songs and unplug the earphone music stops. Is this expected behavior,
I've check with other phone, ideally they should play in the speakers but music player stops working as soon as I plug out earphone.
Also, I tried to listen the fm thorough spkear (inserting an earphone) as soon as I unplug the earphone and try to listen the music player the volume is very low..

May or maynot be not sure. But you can expect an equaliser app which available in store for asha 311 series devices.Its name is "smart 40". But any how this(501) is new platform and not sure if an app is available.

Asha 501 - Radio doesn't have record option.

I've 3 queries regading fm/radio/ring tone cutter.
1. It doesn't have the record option, does it need firmlevel updated to have such feature or just sofware..
2. In some models having FM Transmitter, even is this requires a firmware update or sofware..
3. Also, I can't see any app to cut the song file for ringtone..I've seen this app in my asha 206.

Hi,
- Afaik the record option is not available due to legal constraints.
- A "transmitter" cannot be updated with SW. It is a HW component. Asha 501 does not have a FM transmitter, it has a FM receiver.
- In terms of apps we are working to provide as many apps as possible for the new Asha Software Platform - but I cannot provide details on when and if which SW will become available.

Asha 501 - Problems Compiled HERE

Hello members,
I felt there should be a compilation of all the defects/problems/complains towards Asha 501 phone ONLY in one thread. Every one also adds their own observations and experience with the Asha 501 than it will be easy for the others to read and hopefully for the Nokia team to look into the complains as well.
Here is the list:
PDF Reader, MS Office Documents viewer/editor (the inbuilt app is not at all good with .xls & .ppt files to view)
No Cut/Copy/Paste feature outside browsers for the documents viewed within them and from the app "Notes"
No feature to minimise opened apps and switch between them.
Recent call logs don't display date for last 7 days other than days following past week . There is only "time" displayed for the calls last 12 hour and "name of the day ( ex: Fri, Sat or Sun )" for the last 7 days.
No option to clear a single Fastlane entry
The Music Library shows the name of the song(s) NOT as per the title of mp3's saved in the "Music Folder" of the Memory Card/Phone Memory
The Music Library search function hides a significant portion of "search results" due to the pop up of the keyboard. As a result, it's difficult ( almost impossible ) to view more than ( or nearest ) 2 results.
Can't delete pre-installed apps
Facebook and Twitter app seems a lot buggy with their notifications are almost non-existent and stopped working ( in many cases )
Support for "Alarms" to work when the phone is switched off. Low model non-touchscreen nokia handsets do have this feature and it ould be great addition to touchscreen models as well.
"Alarms" sound is too low for custom music selected as "alarm tone"
Option for "Counters" to "Clear counters" daywise and not clear entire history to date
Screen turns off completely while you are attending a call and requires to push "home" key. A better and easy approach to this is requested, mostly, keeping the screen ON always while the Call is active.
Java apps supported but no access to stuff online that requires java? Browsers lack support for Java plug-in
Support for Whatsapp
Support for custom "Wallpaper for home screen" to choose from Memory card/Phone Memory
Support for Flash in Browsers to view /flv videos and play saved content
Support for higher file sizes to upload in Emails as attachments
Support for compression tools like .zip or .rar, etc.
Addition of "Battery icon" and display "date" on the pull down notification centre.
Please provide your list in a concise manner so as to track down as many user responses as possible.

Your suggestions are good food for thought, but I think some of them are not realistic, at least for the current generation of Asha devices...
Others would be nice improvements, though.

10 - agreed, it would be nice to have. As a workaround, if you put your phone to flight mode, the alarm will still activate but the phone will use considerably less power.

12 - this would be nice to have
13 - powering off the screen during conversation is a power saving feature, your suggestion has questionable benefit. Besides, most people are not capable of sensing light with their ears Automatic screen poweron would require a proximity detector (plus hardware omitted due to cost-saving).
14 - the two javas are different and not compatible. The phone has J2ME (Mobile java), the websites use desktop java (J2SE).
15 - it would be nice to have
17 - flash seems to be less and less supported, even deprecated on most mobile platforms. I don't think it'll come.
18 - this is likely due to a technical limitation (either device heap size or bandwidth consideration on the supporting background services - since Nokia email is proxied)
19 - this is possible to implement by a third party but not part of other mobile OSes, either
20 - it would be nice to have

Blank screen after Ending a call on Asha 501

I got a new Asha 501 last week. I am very happy with the product and its worth for the money spent.
However, two issues i have noticed so far and its bothering me a bit
1. after ending a call the screen goes blank and sometimes it takes a bit to end the call. This is very awkward during some important calls. would appreciate if there is any solution for this.
2. Mail app takes a long time to load the message contents. I know 2g is not the fastest connection but still this is too slow even for 2g.

1. On call, when you bring your phone near to your ear, the Proximity sensor recognises your ear and turn off the screen so that there is no unwanted inputs as the screen touches your skin. But when you pull it back, it turns the screen on again, but it takes 0.5-1 second to the Max.
If it takes longer, make sure there is nothing in front of sensor (it is placed on top left), like Plastic lamination, some accessory, dust or while you pull off your phone, your finger should not be there.
If it still takes longer, better make your device checked at Nokia Care. If found some problem, they will change the sensor.
2. The mail app is working perfectly fine for me on Wi-Fi. You should try loading some websites in browser, if it takes longer, check network strength, it should be strong on 2G internet (Personal experience- BSNL 2G, residing near Network tower, slow like hell, in INDIA). Try changing provider.

Asha 501: VoIP, TLS and certificates

I've recently added sip account to my Asha 501. It works great when I use UDP or TCP transport, but when i switch to TLS it can't connect to the server. I think, this may be caused by self-signed server certificate.
So, is there a way to add my own certificates to Nokia Asha 501 ?

I am trying to use TLS in voip environment and I am in a cross roads.
The guy who manages the asterisk server sent me two certificates: One CA.crt and another User.pem.
I have been able to make the asha 311 accept the CA.crt (after changing it to a ca.der file, according to this post: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Asha-and-other-Nokia-Series-30/HOW-TO-INSTALL-ROOT-Authority-CERTIFI...
But when I try to download the User.pem certificate, I get a message saying "no gateway reply".
So, I have two questions. ONe is, do I relly need these two certificates - is it that the asterisk guy is over complicting things?
The other is. if I need this pem file, how can I make the mobile accepct it?
