Asha 501. Request/Suggestion to make backpanel for...

Hi,
I like the new backpanel/case of the asha 503/502 with glass around. Is it possible for Nokia to create few limited edition of the same type for Asha 501 users.
This will definitely, help us to give a new look for asha 501 users. Both the software got upgraded and made it new and now even if the backcase comes it will be too good.
If this is not the forum to post it. Please let me know where can I post my suggestion.

Asha 501 - Problems Compiled HERE

Hello members,
I felt there should be a compilation of all the defects/problems/complains towards Asha 501 phone ONLY in one thread. Every one also adds their own observations and experience with the Asha 501 than it will be easy for the others to read and hopefully for the Nokia team to look into the complains as well.
Here is the list:
PDF Reader, MS Office Documents viewer/editor (the inbuilt app is not at all good with .xls & .ppt files to view)
No Cut/Copy/Paste feature outside browsers for the documents viewed within them and from the app "Notes"
No feature to minimise opened apps and switch between them.
Recent call logs don't display date for last 7 days other than days following past week . There is only "time" displayed for the calls last 12 hour and "name of the day ( ex: Fri, Sat or Sun )" for the last 7 days.
No option to clear a single Fastlane entry
The Music Library shows the name of the song(s) NOT as per the title of mp3's saved in the "Music Folder" of the Memory Card/Phone Memory
The Music Library search function hides a significant portion of "search results" due to the pop up of the keyboard. As a result, it's difficult ( almost impossible ) to view more than ( or nearest ) 2 results.
Can't delete pre-installed apps
Facebook and Twitter app seems a lot buggy with their notifications are almost non-existent and stopped working ( in many cases )
Support for "Alarms" to work when the phone is switched off. Low model non-touchscreen nokia handsets do have this feature and it ould be great addition to touchscreen models as well.
"Alarms" sound is too low for custom music selected as "alarm tone"
Option for "Counters" to "Clear counters" daywise and not clear entire history to date
Screen turns off completely while you are attending a call and requires to push "home" key. A better and easy approach to this is requested, mostly, keeping the screen ON always while the Call is active.
Java apps supported but no access to stuff online that requires java? Browsers lack support for Java plug-in
Support for Whatsapp
Support for custom "Wallpaper for home screen" to choose from Memory card/Phone Memory
Support for Flash in Browsers to view /flv videos and play saved content
Support for higher file sizes to upload in Emails as attachments
Support for compression tools like .zip or .rar, etc.
Addition of "Battery icon" and display "date" on the pull down notification centre.
Please provide your list in a concise manner so as to track down as many user responses as possible.

Your suggestions are good food for thought, but I think some of them are not realistic, at least for the current generation of Asha devices...
Others would be nice improvements, though.

3 - this is an OS limitation, not likely to change
6 - agreed, they should fix it
7 - agreed, they should fix it
8 - this is the same for example non-rooted android devices, not likely to change
9 - agreed, they should fix it
10 - agreed, it would be nice to have. As a workaround, if you put your phone to flight mode, the alarm will still activate but the phone will use considerably less power.
11 - agreed, they should fix it
12 - this would be nice to have
13 - powering off the screen during conversation is a power saving feature, your suggestion has questionable benefit. Besides, most people are not capable of sensing light with their ears Automatic screen poweron would require a proximity detector (plus hardware omitted due to cost-saving).
14 - the two javas are different and not compatible. The phone has J2ME (Mobile java), the websites use desktop java (J2SE).
15 - it would be nice to have
17 - flash seems to be less and less supported, even deprecated on most mobile platforms. I don't think it'll come.
18 - this is likely due to a technical limitation (either device heap size or bandwidth consideration on the supporting background services - since Nokia email is proxied)
19 - this is possible to implement by a third party but not part of other mobile OSes, either
20 - it would be nice to have

Request for price correction of Asha 501 backcase ...

I see that the price of the Asha 501 backcase cc 3070 is close to 450 i.e. almost same to the price of the lumia 520 or other series.
How can you put the sam price for the phone costing nearly 11k i.e almost double the price of Asha 501.
Either increase the price of lumia series or decrease the price of asha series...

you may request regarding the software or hardware issues that you are facig in your device. Not about the part of marketing strategy. It's not the case that a higher cost product accessories should have higher price and lower cost product accessories should have lower price ! It may be vice versa.
For example Nokia Wh-208 earphones costs some where around 500-600, In this case lumia 920(30k + cost) user and a nokia asha 501(5k cost) user can buy it at the same cost. It means they are making it affordable accessory even for lower end user.
I mean to say its upto NOKIA.

How long does it take for the whatsapp application to be availble for the device ????
Is nokia working on this ???? how long the users must wait for the app. its already two months from the launch of the phone.
Please dont say to contact the application developer whatsapp regarding this. Because Nokia is unitedly working with whatspp to make the app available for its devices so why dont nokia request whatsapp Inc, to develop the app for asha 501 as many users are requesting it ??????? Nokia is'nt bothered about it ??? If so why did nokia announce that :whatsapp and many other apps explore nokia asha 501 " in the press meet ????

VOIP may be supported in 501 but not sure. The developers of wechat and line might have specific reasons best known to them for not giving an calling option. So most probably i am not expecting a voip option in whatsapp.
And for resolving contact sync its taking long time and devlopers are working hard and now they may not dare to handle voip also !

Native Indian language support for Asha 501

Hi,
Can you please let me know the list of native Indian languages supported in Nokia Asha 501? Also, can I store the phone contacts in a native language? I'm more interested in knowing the list of mobiles from Nokia that support the Indian language Telugu.

Here, Telugu works for both the menu, for contacts, and for keyboard.
The Nokia 501 is based on a new operating system, called new Asha software platform. Previous platforms were Nokia Series 40 and Symbian/S60.
Nokia Series 40 supports Telugu as well, however, you need a firmware variant (certain product code) which includes this language. Therefore it does not make sense to post models. You need the correct product code in your device. Anyway, here is a list of phones with Series 40 and Wi-Fi …
With Symbian/S60, I have not seen any product code for Telugu.
With a Windows Phone like the Nokia Lumia 510 you would be off much better, because there, you can add languages easily via the phone menu (if you have Internet access). However, Telugu is neither supported in the menu nor as keyboard. (or I am too stupid to find it).

By default your phone is set to automatically check for updates every 8 days and you will be notified when an update is available for download. If you want, it's possible to force the update check immediately by switching off and back on "Check via mobile data" setting from the “Phone update” menu. The size of the update is around 8 MB, so it's recommended to use Wi-Fi for the download.

Thank you for the new nokia 501 update.
However I am interested to get another new update concerning:
1) Wireless configuration:
It will include security mode of 802.1x, and EAP plug-in settings such as EAP-LEAP, EAP-PEAP, etcc....
2) Keep applications minimized instead of closed:
Sometimes there are some applications need to be minimized and not to be closed
Ex: Applications such Athan, Prayers, Quran, etccc...
3) Some Applications menu not working with screen touch but working with key buttons
There are some applications that you cannot use the screen touch under the menu
I will be greatful if the software will finalize the above suggestions

Though you may get some Random replys to your thread .. BEST is subjective. Something very usefull for one may be utterly useless to the other ..so Best for some particular user need not be the same for you .. You should look for the Applications yourself at the Nokia Store.. Select your Phone..then the area of Interest and check. You may then refer the User Reviews for the particular application ...

Asha 501 - back shell case pattern suggestions.

I've purchased red color asha 501, if I want to change the back shell case of white, the red beauty spot stays there. may be its not a good idea at for the people who don't prefer sporty looks.
Also, my sincere suggestion to nokia is that if you could create the shell cases with innovate it will be more good.
such as create a "superman" or "ironman" shell cases limited editions for asha 501 or lumia 520 or 720 920 and on..
people like me will definitely go crazy to get it.

The phones differ in dimensions. So I'm sure any cover of 502/203 won't fit on the 501.

Asha 501 isn't supporter by Nokia suite, so you can't install apps from PC like any other Nokia phone.
You aren't able to access Nokia store via Wifi as well?. I would suggest a phone settings reset, you *will* lose data stored on the phone so backup before you decide to reset it.

Please release an update. I bought a Nokia Asha 501 in Singapore and the main purpose is to connect to my Nokia 360 speaker. The probe with Asha 501 is that it shows compatibility issues. Please fix the problem as I use the speakers very often. Would not have to trade my Lumia for Asha if I knew this would happen. Please release an Update ASAP!
