Asia/Pacific characters are replaced by the pound sign ("#")

Having a problem sending e-mails and faxes from SAP (EH&S) that contain Asia/Pacific fonts.  The e-mails look good in SAP but in Outlook the Asia/Pacific characters are replaced by the pound sign ("#").

System Preferences > Keyboard > Text. Click the + symbol to add a keyboard shortcut. Click in the left empty Replace text window and place GBP there. Tab, and enter option+# (£) in the With text input area. Click outside of this row to set the contents. Exit System Preferences.
In the application where you wish to have this substitution performed for you, in the Edit menu > Substitutions submenu, select Text Replacement. Then when you type GBP, a floating panel will open below GBP with the pound sterling symbol — just press the spacebar.
Another approach is to use the special character viewer from the bottom of the Edit menu. If ISO-8859-1 is not one of your categories, use the gear icon in the top left to add it. Click on the £ symbol, and in the enlarged view on the right, click on the Add to Favorites. In the future, when you want to add the pound sterling symbol, launch this character viewer, click on Favorites at the top of the category column, and then double-click the £ symbol to have it inserted at the current pointer location in your document. Not as efficient as typing GBP.

  • Bug in Keychain. All characters are replaced by strange symbols...

    Hello,
For 2 weeks, I have a problem with the Mac OS Keychain.
All characters are replaced by strange symbols...
To see the bug : http://nsa20.casimages.com/img/2010/12/03/101203090829665703.png
    (my system is in french)
Do you know how to solve this problem, please ?
    Thanks...

Not a keychain bug, but a font issue. Restart and boot into safe mode as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US (you might need the French version), then do a normal boot. Once that's finished, launch Font Book, select all fonts, validate them and resolve duplicates, and restart. That should fix all your font issue.

  • How many characters are allowed in the memo field?

how many characters are allowed in the memo field? In iTunes in the get info section to add data to this field.

It is 255, as are most text fields. Use the lyrics field if you want to record a large amount of information.

  • Removing the Pound Sign in MAP IDs

We want to use MAP IDs in our Web Help output in order to
bring up the correct document for each screen. The MAP IDs are
based on the screen names, which makes things pretty easy for the
developers. This is the code for calling the desired screen:
    http://www.company.com/help/help_csh.htm#topicId=TOPIC,withnavpane.
Is there ANY WAY (like with javascript or some other magical
thing) we can change the pound sign (#) to a question mark (?) and
still bring up the correct page? We're hoping there is something we
can do in RoboHelp so we don't have to drag a bunch of developers
    into it.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello bgatch,
I do not believe that there is a way to do what you are
after. I suspect the better question is why do you want to replace
the # with a ? in the first place? Hopefully, once we understand
the workflow a bit better, we can come up with a better answer for
    you.

  • How many characters are recognized in the Boot-up Password field?

How many characters are actually recognized when I create my Boot Password in Mac OS X 10.4.10?
At one time OS X only recognized the first 8 characters. Any more than 8 where ignored.
    Is this the same today?

I googled around and found this:
    Dave Schroeder
Actually, Panther does not limit the password length to 8 characters. They can be much longer. The issue is that if you have upgraded from a previous version of Mac OS X to Panther using 'Upgrade' or 'Archive and Install' (keeping your existing user accounts), your existing user accounts will still use the legacy "crypt" passwords, which are limited/truncated to 8 characters.
Any new users will be created with the new password style, which does several things:
    * does not restrict password length to 8 characters, and does not truncate at 8 characters
    * does not display the crypt password in NetInfo Manager
    * uses the functional equivalent of the /etc/shadow framework on other systems, concealing the encrypted password from other users
    * changes the password type from ;Basic; to ;ShadowHash; in NetInfo manager, and uses the new authentication scheme
To enable this behavior for existing users, simply reset the password using the Accounts pane in System Preferences, or the 'passwd' command.

  • Some characters are replaced by question marks!

All of a sudden my iMac (OS X 10.5.1 Leopard) is displaying question marks for some special characters.
For example, on internet, look up a word "pediment" in Yahoo! Dictionary ( http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/pediment)... Instead of showing the "dot" symbol to identify a syllabus break, it shows question marks as ped?i?ment, and instead of showing c with a little squiggle underneath for a word facade (within the definition of pediment), it shows fa?ade.
I did not have this problem on my iMac on Tuesday (01/29/08) morning and I have not installed anything other than the Apple updates.
I tried with FireFox and Safari, and both show the same thing. Then I went and checked my husband's iMac (OS X 10.5.1 Leopard) and it has a same problem, so I know it is not just my iMac.
Then (yes, there is more...) I started to work on my Word document and tried to insert "symbol" from insert on the Toolbar... many of my symbol fonts (Symbol, Osaka, etc) has question marks replacing special characters.
Please help! I am unable to complete my work without these special characters!!

Well, I went to the Yahoo! Dictionary "Pediment" and it said it was set to Default which is set to Western (ISO Latin 1), so I assumed it was Western (ISO Latin 1). But when I click on Western (ISO Latin 1), the pages appear what it's supposed to look like with special characters... What does this mean?
I reset all the settings; I chose something else as default, quit Safari, opened it and chose Western (ISO Latin 1) as a default to see if it changes anything... No change. It says my default is Western (ISO Latin 1), but it seems not.
I am officially confused and have no clue what to do...??????!!!!!
On the bright side, at least I can get my work done, even if I have to change the encoding one page at a time... Thanks.

  • How to find which junk characters are there in the string

Hi Guys in my employee table ,I have a field name emp_name
    and the data inside one of the record is 'BUSH ';
after trimming it ... length(trim(emp_name)) ... I expected the length to be 4,but it still returns 5.So I am wondering what that extra characters after H is.
Can some one tell me how to find it.
    thanks in advance.

Hmmm. What you describe is not the behaviour I would expect from a CHAR(10) column. I would expect this:
    SQL> CREATE TABLE bt (col1 CHAR(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO bt VALUES ('BUSH ');
    1 row created.
    SQL> SELECT length(col1) FROM bt;
    LENGTH(COL1)
              10
    SQL> SELECT length(trim(col1)) FROM bt;
    LENGTH(TRIM(COL1))
                     4
SQL> What version of the database are you using? Also, what does this query give you?
    SELECT ascii(substr(ename, 5,1))
    FROM emp
    WHERE  substr(ename,1,4) = 'BUSH';Cheers, APC

  • Junk Characters are coming in the Print Preview of True Type Font

    Hi
I am facing one issue. Here I have installed on one of the True type font of Gujarati (one of Regional language for India) language. When I see Print preview using LP01 Output device (which has SWIN Device Type) these true type font coming as Junk characters. But when I take print it is coming perfectly Ok. I want to know is there any setting required to maintain for Output device to see Print Preview in Gujarati also ?
I feel that when System is generating output for Preview it is ignoring true type font..
If there is any solution kindly let me know
    Regards

    Hi,
Try creating the spool using the unicode device type SWINCF(see note #812821) and check the result.

  • The Quack here-I am going to repost my question because I was calling the pound sign an asterisk!

Me very tired when I posted my last question!
In GL 6.0.1 I could make a pop up window appear by inserting a pound # as a null link for a text link and then create a new window action and then define the size of the pop up window. And if I previewed it everything was fine.
Now when I do the exact same thing in GL CS2 the preview incests on opening the pop up window and an an error window proclaiming that (#) cannot be found! Without the # CS2 will not underline my text or allow me to create that or any action.
Would the same happen if site was on a host browser and if the answer is yes how would I solve this apparent paradox?
    Thanks in advance folks
    Stuart Sims aka Master Quark

    Thanks all.....
I just had to remove the text link from inside a table and pop up box works correctly.....at first it was trying to open a no-existent page called #. I looked at in and out links and there it was linking to an empty reference..I relinked to pop up page and then CS2 would open 2 pop up pages (and curiously name them the same name as my background image), still think it's a bug, though. I have found many in CS2 and just work around them. Nobody's perfect not even Adobe. After all who killed Golive?
I'll create a test page with just an empty table and a text link inside and see if I get the same response..if not then there is something Golive does not like about my page.
I am not published yet either in prototype mode or in prime time mode so there is no server to upload a page onto. Soon I shall open an account with a host to prototype my monster..
    Thanks to all

  • Some German alphabets are replaced by # while downloading data from UNIX

    Hi,
I have a problem when I upload the data into UNIX application server directory, the data for example the data sent to server had some characters with german alphabets 'ä'
    '2 Jahre Erw. Gewährl.-Level HW-Rep.(11L) '.
When I try to download the data from UNIX to a .txt file, those alphabets are replaced with '#'. The above characters has a german alphabet 'ä' which was getting replaced with '#'. So the data in the downloaded file from UNIX to a txt file would appear
    '2 Jahre Erw. Gew#hrl.-Level HW-Rep.(11L) '
I tried to rectify the OPEN DATSET statement with the statement below
OPEN DATASET L_UNIXFILE FOR OUTPUT IN LEGACY TEXT MODE CODE PAGE '1100'
IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS REPLACEMENT CHARACTER ''.
Even after incorporating the above code in my program didn't help.
Can any one suggest me solution.
    Regards,
    Rajesh Bhogi

Check the codepages. If characters are replaced by '#' there is no corresponding character in the target codepage.

  • Certain characters not appearing in the "full name" when sending e-mail

I have certain characters in my full name of one of my e-mail aliases in iCloud. However, those characters are simply absent from the name shown as sender name when sending mail from Mail app in OS X. For me the problematic characters are C5 A1 and C4 8D (UTF-8 codes).

Yes, š and č are those. Sorry, I wasn't sure if they will work here. I have my full name containing the š and č in the "Full Name" field of the e-mail alias settings on web interface to the iCloud Mail. But in Mail on OS X my name in the "From" field appears without those two characters (other characters are OK) when I select this alias. Also, those two characters are invisible at the recipient's side. And yes, if I sent a copy of such a mail to myself the š and č are missing again in the "From" field.
However, I have the same full name with š and č for my main e-mail address (iCloud account name). Using this main e-mail address š and č appear everywhere!
