• 1602 errors when trying to install the Extended Asian Language font pack for Adobe Reader XI

My company is trying to deploy Adobe Reader XI 11.0.10 with the Extended Asian Language font pack via SCCM 2007, and some computers are failing the install of the Extended Asian Language font pack with 1602 error.  Reader is installing successfully, but the font pack log file will have this entry:
ADelRCP logging: :   In Process : MsiExec.exe
ADelRCP logging: : Setup terminated because critical files are in use or applications that interfere with files installed by setup are running. Review the preceding entries in the log file and close the applications listed before retrying setup.
CustomAction ApplicationInUse returned actual error code 1602 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Action ended 9:08:42: ApplicationInUse. Return value 2.
Action ended 9:08:42: INSTALL. Return value 2.
Our automation to install this is killing Reader and Acrobat before running the Reader 11.0.10 install, so I do not know what would be in use here.
I appreicate any suggestions you have.  I can provide the entire log file, upon request.  Thanks.

• HELP!! Installation of OS X Panther 10.3 stops at Asian Languages Support

I had trouble trying to move the user directory onto another harddrive so I have had to reinstall from scratch. I have a clean harddrive that has been formatted (extended journalled) twice, and written over with zeros...
When the installer get to 'Processing Asian Languages Support' 38% it stops dead and doesn't continue. No error message is displayed. It was frozen for a least 24 hours before I rebooted and tried again, but to no avail.
Can anybody offer any advise?

gemmakls:
The G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) shipped with OS 9.0.4.
With a HDD that has been reformatted, and the data zeroed, you should not have a problem installing unless:
1. You have improper of faulty install disks
2. there is some hardware issue.
Here is what I suggest:
1. Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
2. If that does not help run Apple Hardware Test from the disc that came with your computer.
Good luck.

What are you talking about exactly?  There is normally no need to install anything to read or write Asian languages on your Mac.  Tell us what language for starters and what it is you think you can't do now.

• Asian language (Thai) not displaying correctly

Hi,
I am using a the downloaded TextFlow Hello World example to display text (Flash CS4). Thai language characters show up as rectangles while Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Spanish show up correctly. Weird thing is that I also use a standard ComboBox component in my UI as language selector; and the word "ภาษาไทย" (Thai) showed up correctly in it. (So I am guessing that's because the ComboBox is using TextField instead of TLF).
I tried to set CharacterFormat.locale but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Thanks.

Why do not use "Tahoma" font as font fallback in FTE for Thai language for Windows XP?
"Tahoma" font comes with Windows XP English installation, while Angsana New font becomes available on English Windows XP only after enabling "East Asian" language support.
And text rendered with "Angsana New" looks pretty bad, compared to the text displayed by the help of  "Arial" font.
Test application that display Thai characters:

• Asian Language support in Acrobat 3D 8/TCS

I've spent hours and days to solve a problem with PDFs containing Japanese text, which refused to be copied/pasted into other applications. Then someone told me, it works on his PC using my PDFs the same that didn't work here. Well, it turned out that he had installed the Asian language packs for *READER*, which I didn't use. And which should *not* be used with Acrobat Pro or 3D, according to well-informed Acrobat gurus.
In their KB articles, Adobe gives instructions like these: "To make Asian fonts available for downloading to a printer, be sure you have downloaded the fonts to your computer using the Custom or Complete installation option during installation of Acrobat."
Well, after searching, reading, trying, re-installing etc., I have to say: THERE IS NO CUSTOM INSTALL OPTION in Acrobat 3D/TCS. I have NO option to install Asian language support within a suite that carries "communication" in its name. Technical communication *is* worldwide communication.
Interesting enough: after installing the Reader language packs, the required functionality was there (copy/pasting of asian characters), but currently I'm not sure if I damaged my system (or reduced its functionality) by installing Reader fonts for Acrobat 3D.
So, what do I have to do in order to achieve *full* support for Asian characters in Acrobat 3D/TCS? Any idea?
Bernd Meissner

Olaf,
before I wrote this posting there has been a whole lot of testing here. The situation in short words: I've created PDFs containing Japanese characters in Illustrator and in InDesign. Here on my PC I've not been able to copy/paste (e.g. to Word) any characters from the Illustrator PDF, that were created using OTF fonts and converted to "Type 1 CID/Identity H" fonts. A similar file created in InDesign worked without problems.
There have been a lot of strange things happening I was, for example, able to copy the characters in question (Illustrator PDF, OTF fonts) from Acrobat Pro on my Mac and paste them into Word (Windows) running in a Parallels VM. I could NOT do this within Windows from A3D to Word.
After sending my test PDFs to the German FrameUser mailing list, I got a response from one person (as noted above). And: after installing the Japanese Reader fonts, I suddenly was able to copy the characters within Windows. There must be something that has changed. Copying the characters over to Mac ceased to work in this moment, but has worked before. So the Reader font installation seems to do more than just install fonts although I don't know what it could be.
You'll get my test files within the next minutes
Thanks for caring :-)
Bernd

• Asian language add-on (MAC)

Hello Everyone:
Since I reinstalled Mountain Lion, Adobe Reader XI has encountered some errors. Besides unexpected crashes, I can't open PDF documents edited in Chinese or other Asian languages. Whenever I try to open a Chinese PDF document, the application prompts a message saying:
"A font package is required to correctly display this page. Click "OK" to direct your browser to download the add-on from adobe.com. After installation, you will need to close and re-open the document to correctly view contents dependent on these newly installed fonts
After clicking on OK, nothing happens. Instead of directing my webbrowser on the necessary web page, the app window goes grey without downloading any kinds of add-ons or displaying the document.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem? Does anyone know how to solve it?
Ps.: Before I used Mavericks, but I decided to downgrade it back to Mountain Lion for it still has a lot of bugs and flaws.
Thank you all in advance.
Kind regards,
Lajos

Hey Pat:
Thanks for your advice. This was the first thing that I did after I had encountered the problem, but it doesn't work either. I separetely downloaded the Asian package and the Chinese one as well, but during the installation there is an error message saying:
"The installation failed. The installer encountered a problem that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

• Using Asian languages in Illustrator CS4

Hello,
First time posting to this forum. I searched existing topics (and Google) extensively, but I either didn't find what I needed or I'm not informed enough to determine if what I'm reading is actually the answer I need
My company has a bunch of marketing flyers that need to be translated into Chinese, Cambodian, Vietnamese and some other languages to satisfy some new clients who speak these languages. Our translators have sent us .doc files with the translated text.
My problem is, I cannot get this translated text into Illustrator. One example font is "mingliu.ttc"...I utilized "Install files for East Asian languages" in my Windows XP settings and installed the mingliu.ttc font like I would any other font. It DOES show up in my Adobe list, but it types English characters.
Assuming I can get my hands on all of the exact fonts our translators are using, does anyone know how to get them to properly display in Adobe?

Yes, tedious. I learned this when I first migrated from FreeHand.
The trick is to not bother making tint swatches (!) (I know, I know. A departure from custom. Of course, you can make them if you want, but they turn out to be superfluous.)
Instead, I color select objects with "unnamed" tints, and when I need to modify them, I use the magic wand with a very low tolerance to select the fills (pretty instantly) and strokes (pretty instantly) and adjust the slider accordingly. Because I've gotten so accustomed to this contortion, I've actually forgotten how much of a contortion it is compared to what you're accustomed to.
If someone knows a better way, have at it by all means please.

• Support for Asian Languages

Well, it looks like support for Asian Languages in Dynamic
Textfields wasn't included in this version as well. I have a simple
flash file embeded in an html file with 2 text boxes. Here's the
code I'm using:
var strJapanese = "あらわせて"
var strChinese = "我想你";
japanese_txt.text = strJapanese;
chinese_txt.text = strChinese;
I currently have these fonts installed in the \Windows\Fonts\
directory:
mingliu.ttc
msgothic.ttc
but all I see is a bunch of squares in the text boxes. I have
verified that my pocket pc can use these fonts in other programs.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

I used both the options but no one helps. Check the images for the understanding the problam. I try Arial unicode ms as other font  but it does give correct visiblity of font.
tell some another option.

• Itunes 10: East Asian languages displayed as boxes in certain areas

I just got a new computer, and moved all my music to my new computer, and installed Itunes 10. But for some reason, if I try to edit my song's info (Right click on song, 'Get Info') the titles and everything that's in another language displays as boxes. The song title itself when in Itunes displays properly, but only in the 'Get Info' box does all my Chinese, Japanese, and Korean song information turn into little boxes. It's not my computer's problem, as it displays all these languages properly. The problem lies with Itunes, but none of the help topics really do anything. Can anyone help me out please?
If you didn't really understand my explanation, here are some pictures:

As you can see, boxes in the info editing areas, but everywhere else, it displays properly.
Thank you for your help!

In case anyone else comes across this problem -
It turns out that the fontconfig.properties approach is a bit of a red herring (at least in this example).
I've resolved the issue by adding a method to my bean to specify a different font for english and chinese language users. For chinese language users I specify Font = "Simsun-18030" and for each AWT component explicitly setFont( new Font( "Simsun-18030", Font.PLAIN, 14 ) ) Now AWT components displaying chinese characters are rendered correctly with no need to modify any config files on the client PC.
- NB font appears smaller for pointsize than english fonts.
- Using "SimSun" as the font also works but text in english is not displayed very clearly
- On windows you must install east asian language support for this to work (Start -Run - intl.cpl - languages tab)

• Adding East Asian Language Pack

[I stupidly posted this in the Bold forum.  Reposting here, where this topic obviously belongs.]
Hi, all,
I've read the BlackBerry KB on how to install the East Asian Language packs on my BlackBerry.  But I am still confused.  The directions say:
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone.
Select Applications.
From the Install/Remove Application screen select East Asian Language and Input Support.
Click Start. The installation will begin.
But clicking the "Applications" button brings up a window that manages third-party applications, not BlackBerry applications and extensions.  It shows all of the third-party applications I have installed (Evernote, Google Maps, WhatsApp, etc.).
There is a "+" button on the left of this applications window, but that brings me to a Finder window to search for files on my Mac.  There is a "Start" button, but pressing that without changing checkboxes next to the applications raises the following error: "BlackBerry Desktop Software failed to validate your BlackBerry device update.  Aborting install due to validation failure.  Some packages contain unsatisfied dependencies."
So, it seems that the KB instructions are incomplete.  Exactly where do I see the "East Asian Language and Input Support" option on my Mac BlackBerry Desktop Sofware?  Perhaps I am supposed to use Finder to browse to some location on my Mac select an East Asian Pack file?

Hello drummonds,
Is your Mac connected to an internet connection?
Is your device unlocked and you are using a different carrier than that of the one branded to your device?
Backup your device data and reinstall your software as shown in KB19915; once the reload completes try going back into the Add/Remove applications tab.
Let me know how you make out.

• Completed Form requires Asian Language Pack w/ no visible Asian characters

Why do Reader users receive a notification requiring them to install the "Asian Language Pack" after I fill out a form and send it?  The form has no visible Asian characters.

Fonts listed under Document Properties of the completed form are: TimesNewRomanPSMT (TrueType) & TimeNewRomanPS-BoldMT(Embedded) TrueType.
I neglected to mention that the original form (incomplete) does not require the Language Pack.  What settings/preferences can be changed in Acrobat to prevent Unicode (or other unwanted Fonts) from being used when completing the form?

When I chose a font in the left panel of the font manager app to display its properties in the right panel, with Western fonts the program will display the alphabet or a sentence (depending on what I've set up in preferences) composed with that particular font. Bit no such views appear for Asian fonts. In fact, neither program seems capable of dislaying Japanese of Asian characters ANYWHERE within that right panel even within the character set. Furthermore, most Chinese font names are displayed as ??????? - tho a few do display correctly in the left panel. Japanese font names are all Romanized so that isn't a problem. I was wondering if there is some font manager that is particularly good with Asian language character fonts.
