Asign sRGB profile on import from memory card?

Can I have the Mac automatically assign the sRGB profile to the images I import into iPhoto. They all come in as Camera RGB now.
Typically I take my memory card out of the camera and plug it into a memory card reader and then automatically import into iPhoto. This works great except that all the photos are assigned the Camera RGB color profile instead of the sRGB profile.
Is there a way to configure ColorSync or iPhoto to automatically assign the sRGB profile instead of Camera RGB to the imported images?

Can you set the preferences in your camera to create images with the sRGB profile? If so, that would be the easiest way, I think.

  • Confusion re: photostream, import from memory card, events, etc.

confusion re: photostream, import from memory card, events, etc.
Up until a few weeks ago, my travel-photo-handling went like this:
Each night, I download photos to my iPad for safekeeping. They, of course, wind up in Photostream.
When I return home, I connect my camera card to my iMac (where I have my iPhoto library), and I can "see" the photos on my memory card - the photos which, although in Photostream, I have not yet manually downloaded.
    I select and ownload them.
New Events are created in my Library automatically, as I have my preference set to Autosplit Events.
This week, I came home from a trip during which I had downloaded to iPad during my time away.
I connected my memory card to the iMac.
iPhoto did not "see" any photos to import - as far as iPhoto was concerned, those photos were already in my Library.
I had iPhoto show all photos on my card, selected the photos from my trip (I shot over 1000) and clicked "Import Selected"
    iPhoto says they're duplicates.
However, the photos have NOT been downloaded manually and there are NO Events in my Library for those days.
Note: yeah, they're in Photostream, but IN THE PAST - and I mean literally up until 3 weeks ago - the photos have ALWAYS been "visible" and importable even if in Photostream, as long as I had not yet manually downloaded to the computer.
So my question, I guess, is multi-part:
What changed in iPhoto and/or Photostream in the past couple of weeks?
Why are Photostream photos suddenly considered to be the same as the photos on my card which have not yet been manually downloaded to the computer?
What the heck is going on?
I hate having duplicates, but I also hate being confused by something that used to be really easy, then - with Photosream - became annoying, and is now simply perplexing and sometimes imcomprehendable.

Check iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane to see if the highlighted checkbox in the screenshot below is checked.  If it is then all photos taken by the iPad are automatifdally being imported into your library.
Go the the Events mode and check the View ➙ Sort menu option to verify where new Evens will be located, at the top of the window or the bottom.  Then check to see if your PS pictures are there.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect your iPad and import all photos.  Dismount the iPad, close and reopen the test library, connect the iPad again and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does'nt then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.

  • Importing from Memory Card (photos taken with Olympus EP1)

    Hi there,
I have used a mac pretty much all my life and importing photos from camera/memory cards is like second nature. I have recently started using the Olympus EP1 and transfer my photos using a card reader in my USB drive. Things have been working great until this weekend, iPhoto (my version is 7.1.5) would only import 150 images out of 446 on my memory card. All images on the card were taken on the same day with the same camera. When I tried to manually import the images by copying them to my desktop and then bringing them into iPhoto the exact same thing happened, stating them to be unreadable files. They are raw Olympus format, all of them. Why is it refusing to import the other 300?
When I open the files in the Olympus software that came with the camera, all 446 images are viewable and editable, meaning that the files are not corrupted. I did the most recent iPhoto update but same problem. I've restarted. Please help!

Yeah that is the strange thing. I've double-checked and they are all the same format: _.ORF
Can there be a raw .ORF file and a non-raw .ORF??
I've got all the images loaded into the Olympus Master 2 program (their own image editing software that comes with the camera), and iPhoto open. Master 2 is labeling them all as RAW, but only 150 of those will open in iPhoto. I can't find anywhere that states that those are not RAW, and I didn't change the picture settings on my camera...
So now I'm even more confused with your question as to how iPhoto DID load those 150 photos at all!

  • Importing from memory card: Aperture won't refresh!

Because of the TOTALLY STUPID "feature" in Aperture that makes it impossible to import two files with identical names and different extensions (i.e. RAW and JPG versions of the same image), I went to a lot of effort to create an Automator action to rename all the jpegs directly on the memory card in the Finder. I don't want the hassle of importing into different projects, or copying the files onto my hard drive into different folders, etc. I just want Aperture to import the files from the memory card.
So the Automator action renames all the jpeg files with "-jpeg" at the end of the name. Great. But when I launch Aperture after doing so, it DOESN'T SEE the jpeg versions! The only way to get it to see them is to eject and reinsert the card. Then it works. Which means that even though Aperture was not open when I inserted the card the first time, it took note of what was on the card and refused to notice the changes when I launched it. So basically there is no way to get Aperture to refresh its view of the card without ejecting and reinserting. What a pain! Even making a workaround becomes a hassle because of Aperture's totally absurd limitations.
BTW I am fully aware that I can copy the files to my hard drive before importing so that Aperture sees them, but this means extra steps to delete both the copied images and the original images on the card. I just want Aperture to see all the images on the card, import them, and erase and eject the card. Is this too much to ask?

The JPGs are duplicates of my camera's RAW files,
which are unrecognized by Aperture, but which I still
want to keep in the Vault in case they are supported
    in the future.
So if you imported the files with the same name, wouldn't it just put both files in the library and still show you the JPG's? Then Archive would back up both files but you'd only see the JPG in Aperture...
To verify, after import you could look in the library, and also examine a valut to make sure it was backing up all the files. However I think Aperture will automatically back up whatever you put in a project file, even if it's something Aperture knows nothing about.

  • Imports from memory cards

When importing photos to LR for the first time that are not on my computer hard drive, from a memory card - do I select 'make a second copy' to send to my hard drive?

Lightroom does have to be able to find your photo on the hard drive.
    So
If I only import to LR with no copies except back ups after developing
This is impossible, you have to make a copy from the camera card.
Nor is it a good idea to delete photos after you edit them; once you import the photos, you should not delete them from either Lightroom or from the hard disk. You need the original on one disk and a backup on another disk, permanently.

Have recently got new 5800 after mine got wet. The new one is slightly different and I have put my memory card from old one into new phone.
I can't seem to find the right route to import my numbers off my memory card.
I'm sure the card is not corrupted as it had all my music on which automatically transfered when I opened real player.

  • Delete from memory card after import

    Hi,
I'm a fresh Lightroom newbie, and I am missing how to delete pictures from a memory card as I am importing them into Lightroom. This seems a glaringly obvious feature, so it must be hiding somewhere.
The only options I can see in the "Import Photos" dialog are
    - Copy photos to a new location and import
    - Copy photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and import
There doesn't seem to be an option to delete files after import, just various ways to eject the card.
I've found one way if I choose "Import Photos from Disk" while in Lightroom, there I have a Move option, but why not from device? Every other photo importer has this.
    Thanks,
    Zak

Thanks for your responses. I'll go ahead and use "Import photos from disk" and change to my card reader. I personally had no problems in my years reading & immediately deleting files from memory cards. I had a few instances where I inadvertently deleted a fresh imported picture on the computer, I used undelete utilities on the card in these cases.
That said, I still think it would be a good feature. If the users want to do it (2 years of questions), just let them.

I cannot seem to load raw images into LR 2.5.  I've been using this for years.  I always load from memory card, but it gives me an unknown error message.  I tried to load from camera, hard drive, & external drive and still will not work.  I checked import menu and nothing has changed.  I loaded the photos onto my tablet and images are fine, so do not feel it is the memory card.  Any thoughts?

The error message probably said "unsupported or damaged"
The T3 requires Lightroom 3.4.1 or later. You can either upgrade to a more current version of Lightroom (version 5.6 is the most recent) or you can use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert the RAWs to DNG, which should import into Lightroom properly.

  • Import as DNG from Memory card to PC using Win 7?

I import images into My Pictures (Win 7) then convert to DNG when I import into them into Lightroom where I delete and edit. The DNGs are deleted from Lightroom, but CR2 files now on my hard drive are not. Can I import as DNG from memory card to hard drive on PC so they will be deleted as well? Thanks

AFAIK Win 7 does not have any features to Copy/Convert to DNG from your Memory Card to your hard drive.
The import function in Lightroom certainly has this ability within the import dialog menu. Just select the appropriate settings.
This is done from the Library Module in Lightroom.

  • Is there any difference in importing movies to iMovie direct from memory card or first importing the movie to the hard drive?

Is there any difference in method:
    1) importing movies directly from memory card (class 10) to iMovie
    2) copying the content of the memory card to my hard drive and from there I import it to iMovie
I mean, is there any quality issues? The latter method is really much faster.

    No.
The copy of the card is a 'bit-identical clone' - no difference to the 'original'.
Plus a superb method to back-up originals....
I copy all my original recordings first onto some hard-drive - SDcards are much to 'fragile' in my experience....

  • I cannot find my pictures in iphoto after downloading and delating from memory card....

I downloaded my pictures from memory card, and once it was done, iphoto asked me if I wanted to keep the pictures into the memory cart, I pressed no, and now I cannot find my pictures anywhere... Is there a way to find them back ?

    Hard to say
    Are they in last import?
do not use your memory card until you resolve this - you may want to use software like Media Recover to recover the images on the card
You can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
For the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • N73 - Restore from Memory card option missing afte...

    Hello,
I re-installed the software on my N73 today morning as it had become slow. Before doing this, I backed up all my important data into the memory card.
After installation, when I tried to restore the data, I found that the "Restore from Memory Card" option is no longer available on the menu list!!! The only options currently available are
    Remove mem card
    Backup phone mem
    Format mem card
    Set Password
    Memory details
    Help and
    Exit.
I removed the battery, removed the memory card, restarted the phone, but nothing works!!!
Someone  help me in resolving this problem pls. All my valuable data is in the memory card.

Still no clue what happened.. But could not wait for miracles to happen anymore.. Rebuit the phone. Fortunately 99% of data / apps I need could be resynched from Outlook..

    Here’s my question,
I have a new HP Photosmart 7520e all in one. I put my memory card in the slot but the printer screen does not show my computer as a destination option.  I'm using Windows 7.  Nothing at the computer end acknowledges that the card is in the printer slot. The computer is wireless hook up. How do I transfer pictures from the card to the computer?
Thanks support team. My old HP Printer pooped out on me and I just got this new one hooked up. I have a card full of pictures I need to move into “My Pictures” but so far, my new HP doesn’t want me to. Stainless909

My computer does NOT have a card slot or I would have use it to start with. Next: This sentence doesn't make any sense to me. (youyr answer) "You can map the card to network drive but why you have to do that hard ?"  I don't understand "maping net works".
All my previous (4) HP printers had card slots (as this one does) but when I put my card in the computer would read it and ask me if I  was ready to import them and I picked the destination ... click on "import" and it happened. This one.. nothing happens on the computer but the printer screen gives me a choice of destinations (snapfish & usb cord) but does not offer an option of moving them to the computer. Are you not understanding my problem????  Would this be better resolved with a phone call? 951 769-8420 Thanks Bruce aka... Stainless909
