Demystifying Audio – Adobe Audition for Video Editors
Thursday, July 25h, 2013 |10:00 AM Pacific Time
Presented by: Larry Jordan
"The best way to improve the quality of your picture is to improve the quality of your sound" - Larry Jordan
The first question many video editors ask is: "why should I consider using an audio application for my projects?"
In this special presentation, Larry Jordan will show you how you can use Adobe Audition to create better videos.
Starting with an overview of the application, Larry will then demonstrate how Audition can make your life a lot easier.
During this 45-minute presentation, you'll discover:
How to send files and projects between Premiere Pro and Audition
How to remove hum from an interview How to remove background noise
How to maximize audio levels without causing distortion
How to do an audio mix of your project
How to create "stems," or submixes, of your dialog, effects, and music tracks
How to test your final mix to be sure it meets all technical specs before submitting it to the client.
The session will be followed by a Q&A.
Audience: video editors, postproduction professionals, audio pros
Applications: Adobe Audition CC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC.
Workflows with other NLEs will also be discussed.
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=detail&id=1903730&loc=en_us&sdid=KCTHJ

I don't think this will be on Adobe TV, but you can view the Adobe Connect recording of the session here:
http://bit.ly/askcspro_0826
If the audio stream doesn't play, or loses synch, try moving the playhead forward/backward a bit. That should kick it back into synch.
I plan to have a little guide to the session, along with some helpful links, posted later today.

  • Adobe Audition for Video Editors webinar recording online

    Hi everyone,
Last week, Audition sponsored a screencast hosted by Kanen Flowers covering his workflows for editing audio for video projects.  The recording of the event is online at http://seminars.adobeconnect.com/p58yg03mkgg/
We had a great turnout, and if people find these valuable, we'll try to schedule more of them addressing different editing topics.
    Have a great day,
    Durin

I was interested enough to sign up for the real-time webinar. I want my hour back.
Based on its biling, I expected it to deal a fair amount with dialog editing, but it just touched on the subject and most of that was about trying to fix dialog from a Skype connection -- something of little interest to the vast majority of videographers.
The structure was just a ramble; it seemed to me that Kenan did little to prepare. It was more an ad for Kenan and his show than it was useful for videographers trying to learn how to use Audition. But maybe that was just me; YMMV.
I should add that I've watched several other Abobe webinars. Most were good solid useful information. The bar is set fairly high, which is probably why I was dissapointed in this one.

  • How to use VST Plugins from Premiere Pro CS5 in Adobe Audition 3.0 ?

I have tried to use VST plugins from Premiere Pro CS5 into Adobe Audition 3.0, but could not use it.Is any method to use them ?

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't do this at all - Adobe lock all their VST effects so that they only work with the app they were intended for. Which also means, of course, that you can't use Audition VST plugins with any other software either. Since Audition isn't currently in the CS, there isn't even an exception there, I suspect.

In this tutorial, Sr. Worldwide Evangelist Jason Levine walks you through the techniques for using the Spectral Frequency Display in the Adobe Audition for Mac beta. Learn about when to use subtractive vs. spectral decay-based noise reduction methods, remove hiss & hum visually, and even remove individual sounds using familiar Adobe Photoshop tools like the Marquee, Lasso and Spot Healing Brush.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues -Feedback?

Anybody have any feedback from the MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues?
I had my early 2011 15 inch 8,2 repaired (free) under the extension program. The machine now appears to run well - but much hotter than before. The case is significantly hotter - especially at the GPU corner and the fans are constantly on moderate to high (not full). Anybody else experiencing similar changes?

  • How to send a project from Final Cut Pro X, to adobe Audition

Anyone familiar with exporting a project or just audio from FCPX to Adobe Audition?

Thanx for your reaction. I want to edit Final Cut soundtracks in Adobe Audition and import them back again in FCPX.
I found out a good workaround.
First export the project as roles in separate files.
You can import these files in Audition; edit them etc.
Simple as that and no extra costs.

  • Adobe AIR for Video Wall project - the right tool?

I need to decide whether Adobe AIR is the right tool for a Video Wall project. The Video wall would be one of only 4 installations.
It would need good offline capability.
The application would play back both canned video as well as twitter feeds.
The other option is to go all HTML with perhaps the Canvas element to display video, graphics.
I'm biased towards using Flash, AIR but am open to new ideas.
What are the pros, cons of each approach?

Pros of the Adobe route would be a little more control and reliability. You can easily go fullscreen, preload other videos easily in the background and display them on the hardware GPU decoded StageVideo (with the right video card, almost all of them at this point). Twitter feed loading would have some robust error handling to assure it goes smoothly but if you need offline capability you'll need some canned material for the feeds in that situation.
HTML can go fullscreen but the caveat would be drawing your twitter feed over the video at that point. Because it's fullscreen I don't believe you can have your text over it from a <video> element but you'd need to use <canvas>'s fullscreen and actually mux the text into the video.
The long haul of Adobe's roadmap clearly states video and games are the future of FP and AIR. I've done tons of kiosks in Flash and AIR, many of which just act as a video wall, attracting people to very large screens. I've had nothing but success doing this. I'd only even approach HTML5 if you have some reason to desire to put this on the web, and even then, Flash is still fine in that situation too.

  • Does Premier Pro CS5 have Pan & Zoom for VIDEO ?

Have been looking for a straight answer on this and all I find is a bunch of stuff about still image effects in Premiere Pro using key frames.
Just dropped a lot of coin on Master Collection CS5 and trapped for a time in Premier Pro CS4 because I now have to buy a new 64Bit platform; No matter because I'm really impressed with what Adobe is doing across the board. Lord knows I could be missing something right in front of me.
The question here is will I find a standard pan and zoom capability - FOR VIDEO NOT IMAGES - in Premiere Pro CS5 when I finally spend ALL of my disposable income or should I just stick with my $100 Sony Vegas NLE on my 32Bit platform ;-)
On a related note, how can you have a VIDEO editor of consequence without pan and zoom ? Am I the only one who find this curious ? Is this issue like the crazy aunt in the attic that no-one wants to talk about ?

Look before you leap in with an ill informed opion.
A little more hands on time and maybe breaking out the help or manual files would have lead you to the discovery of what Colin pointed out.
You will discover a world of power and tricks within the CS5 applications.  Not all are immediately evident but they become fundamental and instinctive after a bit of time.  Many of us can still be shown a trick or two after many years with the apps.  Colin B. is a source of many of them.

  • Which MacBook Pro w/ Retina to buy for Video Editing?

Hi, I am looking into buying a MacBook Pro for Video Editing. This is not my main machine because I already have an i7, 16GB  RAM, GTX 760 2TB HDD machine at home. My home machine beasts through  my daily editing but I am stumped on which MacBook is worth the money!
    I am comparing the...
    13" Retina with
    i7
    256 GB SSD
    16GB RAM
    Integrated Graphics
    for $1849 (with EDU discount)
    VS
    15" Retina with
    i7
    512 GB SSD
    16GB RAM
    GT 750m with 2GB DDR5 Memory
    for $2,479 (with EDU Discount)
I don't really care about the screen size, I'll be using thunderbolt storage anyways, I am mainly wondering if the GT 750m will make much of a difference in editing footage. Mainly AVCHD 1080p but also I'd like it to be able to handle 4k in small amounts. I would mainly use proxy's at that point but just in case. I also don't do a ton in After Effects, but may need to send some shots here and there of for VFX work. This is mainly for if I'm on the go and need to make an edit or I need to do photography work (Lightroom and Photoshop)
    Thanks,
    Cameron Gallagher

Both will work fine with 1080p AVCHD but you will notice an increase in performance simply because Premiere LOVES a good GPU and the 750M is a good one as far as laptops go. Yes, its more but if you're serious about performance go with the better GPU.
That being said...save a bit and go with this below (same as your 2nd option but cheaper):
Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7 with Retina Display - Apple Store (U.S.)
It'll save you $400. Bam! Thank me later. Apple's refurbished program is top of the line. Comes fully warrantied and you can get apple care, etc. if you want as well. It's like buying it new. These refurbished computers are often just ones bought and then returned within a few days by customers trying things out and there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. They can basically be looked at like new.

  • Audio Sample Rate for Video Clips?

How do you check the audio sample rate for a clip of video?
    Thanks.

scroll over in the browser until you get to the column for audio. That's one way.

  • Audio tricks for video editors?

I'm a somewhat experienced video editor who has at most of my career had an audio guy nearby to work on sound design, effects and cleanup. For some freelance projects, however, there's nobody to do that. I occasionally have to remove some noise, compress interview audio and voiceovers, and mixdown voice with music in a way that doesn't suck. And mostly, it has been sucking. A lot.
Are there any good books or tutorials out there that teach a video editor like myself some good audio tricks in order to accomplish semi-professional results?

    Hi Zopiro,
    This might help:

  • Adobe Premier Elements Video Editor will not open

I just installed version 12 of Adobe Premier Elements on my Windows 7 (64) system and am unable to open Video Editor.  I receive a message that the display driver is not current and a newer version would make the program run more efficiently.  After some time, the video editor stops trying to load.  I have verified all windows updates are loaded and that I have the most current Quicktime version.  I have also unloaded and reloaded Adobe Premier Elements but this issue continues to persist.  Please assist.

    1.     What is your video card's/chip's make and model?
AMD Radeon HD 8730M, Intel Graphics HD 4000
There have been discussions here about problems with Premiere Elements and a dual video card set up.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5747654
What happens if you disable the Intel Graphics HD 4000 and just work with the AMD video card?
This is one of John T. Smith's and Hunt's favorite subjects. So we should be hearing from them soon. Meanwhile their presence can be felt in the link that I have referenced on this subject of dual video cards.
    More later.

  • IMac 27" vs 21.5" for Video Editor?

I cannot decideo between these, and the only hardcore thing I will be doing on the iMac is video editing, other wise, I dont play games.

Personally I would get the 27" iMac simply because of the bigger display and higher resolution of it which can be helpful for video-editing.
More open windows without anything hiding or overlapping.
