ASK toolbar is a virus supported by GOOGLE and ORACLE

ASK toolbar does not uninstall from windows with the uninstall and google lets this virus piggyback whilst oracle promotes this virus. ask toolbar is a virus and the owners are slimey double dealers who need their face branding with a hot poker.
deal with these slimers by trashing their product

Well, Ask Toolbar usually gets installed in either Firefox or IE. It even affects Chrome. The toolbar isn't a standalone program. It has to load in a browser. And it looks he got it when he installed Java. So he's otherwise just venting.
Well said brother! To hell with Ask! I'm surprised they're still even in business.
Try this Ask Toolbar removal guide:

It's straight forward and pretty comprehensive. Should get the job done.

  • Just updated to firefox 5.0 and my google toolbar has disappeared, went to reinstall it and error message says google toolbar is incompatable with firefox 5.0. Any solutions? Thanks

Last night I opened firefox and it said there was an update (5.0) available, so I updated. When I opened the browser this morning the google toolbar was missing, so I went to the google site and tried to download the google toolbar for firefox. A message appeared in the next to a piece of green jigsaw saying the google toolbar is incompatable with firefox 5.0. Is there some way to make it compatable? Regards, Peter.

You would need to install the Addon Compatibility Reporter, but you need to start working on those workarounds because ...
'''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.

  • The Ask toolbar that I unfortunately downloaded has replaced Google and makes everything run more slowly. I can't get rid of it.

I was trying to play a media file and was advised to download KM player. It asked if I wanted to download a toolbar too. I thought it might not work properly if I didn't follow suggestions, so I did. The toolbar was "Ask" and it replaced the Google toolbar. I don't know how to get rid of it. I found a box next to the toolbar at the top right-hand corner of the screen and unchecked everything on it (add-on bar, menu bar, etc.) Then I clicked on Firefox at the top of the page and clicked on Help and then on Restart with add-ons disabled. I went to "My Computer" to look at "Add and Remove Programs" and couldn't find "Ask". I tried downloading Google Chrome, and it had a Google toolbar -- in the address bar, which I didn't want. I wonder how to get rid of "Ask" in Firefox. (Also in Internet Explorer!)

  • I need to know if the last non beta version of firefox supports the google toolbar. I will only update firefox if that is the case!

one month or two ago i was in NY at a friends house, and he updated firefox and in the new version what happened? "kaput" GOOGLE TOOLBAR GONE.
There are features in GT that firefox does't provide. I won't live without GT. Therefore i will only update firefox when sooner or later, will come to know that the new version doesn't "kill" GT.

Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox beyond Firefox 4. Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. Google Toolbar is not available on any other browser, even Google's own browser.

Yes, it's a scam. Do not call any phone number.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, remove adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac, and AdwareMedic. If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.) You might consider adding this Safari extensions: Adblock Plus 1.8.9.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • Using "+" I am unable to open additional tabs; if I use File and click on New Tab it will open. I don't have the Ask Toolbar. How can this be corrected?

Prior to today, when I clicked on the "+" a new tab would open. It no longer does that. However, when I open File and click on "New Tab" it opens just fine. I do not have the Ask Toolbar as far as I know (this was mentioned as a problem previously). What can be done to fix this? Thank you.

  • Anti-virus support for CUOM/USM 8.7 on Windows 2008

On the "Supported Devices and Interoperable Software Table for Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager 8.7" guide the only listed supported anti-virus is McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0. My customer uses McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8.
I could not find any better information on Cisco docs neither on the Suppport Community.
    Any help is appreciated.

    hi rgomes,
It would not be practically possible for us to support every minor
release of 3rd party softwares. You could ask your customer to upgrade
to 8.8 and ask them to exclude the CSCOpx folder from scanning.
    Hope this helps!

  • Tabs and Ask Toolbar Conflict

Sorry, but I am new to this forumn and don't know how to post a comment that may save time for some folks. About a week ago I posted a problem concerning creating multpple tabs and saving them. I cna't find that posting again, but the answer I got worked until the next update.
At that time I was using FF3.6.14 and the Ask toolbar. Removing it as suggested worked. Later I installed the FF 3.6.15 update and all still worked. Last night I recieved an update of the Ask toolbar.
Upon installing that latest toolbar, I again had the same problem with tabs.
It would appear that the lastest version of FF and Ask still conflict.

Did you create a new profile?

  • Why do I have Ask as a serch engine rather than Google which it always was ?

I want Google as my search engine when I open Firefox not Ask. How do I do this ?

Ask usually gets installed when you install something else. See screenshot for a typical example.
To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.<br><br>
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=<br><br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''General''' .<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br><br>
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/
Also, click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, Extensions. If you see the Ask Toolbar in there, remove it.
